I use both when I can but if I have some pennies & nickles in my wallet, I let my DD put them in her bank. When she gets to $25, I go buy her a $50 Savings Bond with it. She has 3 or 4 of them now.
When those mature, I'll cash them in and buy $100 Bonds with each one.

I use bills...save my change. I saved enough change 2 years ago to buy all 4 of my girls Christmas presents. This included buying all 4 of them new bikes. We had over $500 in change.

We break bills. And at the end of the day all our change goes into our vacation jar. Its easier for us to save change than to save bills, as weird as that sounds I know. But we have been going on vacation with our change every year for 8 years now. Its what works for us

thanks everyone. I am starting to save the change. and will break a few more dollars then before.
I made 2 silly banks for the kids, with 2 gyeriser water bottles 1 gallon style, poked holes on the lids and hot glued it on (so no one can take out the money) I made a label with each name. Since Friday night we all put our change in each bottle. Appears to be atleast $5.00 in each. I think we will save the bottles till Christmas or add it to the savings account for the children.

I always try to use up my change, that way I can fool myself into thinking I have more money than I do when I see that extra bill in there LOL. About the only time I go for breaking a bill is if it like 95 cents.

I break a bill every chance I get. We have a 5 gal. water jug. Full it hold $500 plus. It's paid for vacations, graduation gifts for grandkids, etc.
