Another military mother here. Both kids in Korea at this time. My daughter is due to come home on February 18th. She's done her one year tour of duty in Korea and her next post will be here in the States. My son will be over there until November. Dang, all this talk of North Korea is making me somewhat nervous.

What a wonderful thread! All of you have been so generous with supporting our troops. I was also sending care packages of stuff the kids missed but their commissary and PX has a good selection of stuff. They also have a Popeye's, Burger King and other American fast food places on some of the bases.
To all the military families and soldiers, God bless!

Hubby is in National Guard (Charlie Comp) and its infantry..... He just got home in August from 8 months of active duty in Germany. He has over 22 years in and just sent off his re-enlistment since he has to do it on a yearly basis now due to his age. They have had some guys voluntarily take deployment to Kuwait and Korea but so far the unit hasnt been deployed again. He told me that they told his unit they wont deploy them again for another yr. But I think that is a crock. If things get bad like most of us military wives tend to think I am sure they will revoke it and deploy them. He is torn. He loved serving his country, the pay wasnt bad since he makes crap at home, and since he is a SGT 1st class he usually doesnt have much more than dealing with his troop. He doesnt get front line kind of stuff. But he is so tired of all the military crap anymore. I guess it can get pretty bad. Right hand doesnt Know what left is doing. you know the story. I ask him if he gets deployed again will he go and he said I dont know I may just take my leave. But I bet you money when it comes down to it he will go. His whole family is Military, He grew up that way and he is strictly DUTY FIRST.
As for cookies..... I sent him some sugar cookies in Germany. Took 2 weeks and they showed up intact. What I did was take 2 cookies and placed them back to back and then saran wrap them together... Hey it worked great.... Guys like jerky, or any kind of American food. Box mac and cheese. candy you name it. They dont have alot of access to this stuff,

My sister is in the Navy and is on the Roosevelt. Last year at Christmas they were in the Arabian Sea. I sent a package for her and one for some of the others on the ship. The main thing they wanted was bags of Fritos and that dip in a can to go with them. It seemed to ship pretty well.
Someone mentioned sending taped football games--I think that is a great idea

Got my first tape taped. 5 and a half hours of football and I can't stand football. Arghh. Oh well, they are worth it. I will be sending off today and will have another tape made this weekend.

I had a friend tape the second half of the Steeler's game (my hubby's fave team)and it ended up he got up at 2 am to watch it with some other guys!! Oh well. Glad he got to actully watch it. He finally emailed me!! He was able to hook up his laptop to internet and reply to my emails! I was so excited to get them (and cheaper than calling!)

Hubby called alittle bit ago and said another thing they need over there is fly swatters! Thought I'd pass this idea along also!

Hi all, I don't know where my hubby's ship is right now, they reached their "hump day" on Dec 24, but that's all Ive heard, Starting to worry now cause I usually get 3-5 emails a day and now I haven't had any for close to a week. Sunday was our anniversary, I'm gettin nervous here. the Ombudsman doesnt know anything either, does anyone know a website that tracks the ships? I used one last time he was deployed, but don't remember what it was. TIA

I'm sure that he's fine. Don't worry! Where my husband is in Kuwait, there isn't any internet service right now. Maybe there's a problem with the service?

I'm hoping thats all it is, I guess with the prez wanting to be a war monger and all right now (just my opinion), I'm just scared that something is happening that we don't know about.
