Re: Military Support Thread
I guess I'll be visiting this thread a lot more. SS was just sent to Oklahoma earlier today. And whenever he's done there, he will be going to Iraq. So we saw him for the last time last night before he gets deployed. He is only 19. He has a 16-year-old GF and she is just so torn up over this. I feel really bad. But he's got a lot of prayer surrounding him so I try to be positive about the whole thing.

go to the site and APPLY for a soldier. They will email you his adress as to where you are to send packages to. Thats where you get an adress to send items to. You just cant send over there it has to have a name to send anything too. I have 4 adopted soldiers i send stuff to and write to. Hope this helps.
Re: Military Support Thread
I just wanted to see that I am very thankfull that my childhood friend of 28 years returned from active duty in Fallujah. He serves in the Marine Corps, as a mechanic, recieved some shrapnel, but is in great condition.
Good Luck all! :)

Support our troops, send them home, vote for a Hero not a Zero!!! Vote for a war hero John F. Kerry!!!
Although this thread was not meant for political discussion but rather for support and encouragement, I just wanted to say there is a danger to pulling troops out too soon. To be quite honest, I would rather hold off now than have to go back to a bigger mess in 10 years. I also wasn't fond of "draft dodger" Clinton deploying people to Somalia and Bosnia (you know, the Bosnia that was supposed to have our troops for only a year or two and they are still there).
I am still undecided somewhat on who to vote for as I am not very fond of either person as a whole, but I can tell you this, what happens with this war probably matters more to me and the others with loved ones away than anyone else. I don't care for the implication that if I vote for Bush I am not as big a troop supporter as you are, because I promise you, I have a whole lot more at stake than you do and so do my children. No offense meant, but those of us who frequent this thread probably could do without political and controversial posts on this one thread. Thank you for hearing my take on this.

You hit the nail right on the head Johnsmom. :)
That is EXACTLY why I made this thread sticky a long time ago. It's for the FAMILIES and FRIENDS. It's not to be used as a political tool, rather it's for support etc.
Unless a person has or wants to give support, I would advise staying out of this thread, as I will not allow it to become yet another political battleground. There are already enough of those threads throughout the board.
Re: Military Support Thread
I'm really getting irritated. Some of us are having a hard time dealing with our family members leaving and then there are people running around with "holier than thou", "I know more than you even though I have NO idea what you're going through" attitudes. I have two words for you but I won't type it because it's obvious my feelings toward you. It's really easy to sit back and say "Oh, poor baby" and mock us, but what we are going through is real. I'm sorry you have no feelings or compassion. Back off and let us be with others who can actually support us.
Re: Military Support Thread
Wanted to let you all know I am thinking of you and praying for our troops! I've been there too and hope your loved ones come home soon.
Let's hope this thread stays a place of support as it was intended and not a political battleground!
Hugs to all of you!!!

Lo, I have stood my watch this day.
I have kept my enemy at bay,
God and Country I serve So I swore,
for peace today and evermore.
A new watch I proudly stand,
So Glorious and Bold as God took my hand
With Shield and Armor, I now bear a sword
My Comrades and I stand tall with the Lord.
My eyes are fixed, my path is sure
My heart and mind so blessed and pure
As my God now dwells with me
My Spirit with you will always be.

Happy Birthday my son, forever 26. It was 1 year ago this week we saw you last. I miss you more than life itself. When they took you they tore out a part of my heart that will never heal.
Re: Military Support Thread
Thanks for the post about booksforsodiers.com. I have sent care packages through them, anysodier.com, and have signed up at adoptaplatoon. I will be receiving a soldier from them soon. I already have my last box ready to send for Christmas when they give me a name. We also mail out Christmas cards daily. It's not hard to find a name of someone who isn't getting anything. Beware - doing this gets very addictive!! :)

Friday November 12 2004
U.S.Marines were fired upon by snipers and insurgents armed with rocket-propelled grenades from a mosque and an adjacent building. The Marines returned fire with tank shells and machine guns.
They eventually stormed the mosque, killing 10 insurgents and wounding five others, and showing a cache of rifles and grenades for journalists.
The Marines told the pool reporter that the wounded insurgents would be left behind for others to pick up and move to the rear for treatment. But Saturday, another squad of Marines found that the mosque had been reoccupied by insurgents and attacked it again.
Four of the insurgents appeared to have been shot again in Saturday's fighting, and one of them appeared to be dead, according to the pool report. In the video, a Marine was seen noticing that one of the insurgents appeared to be breathing.
A Marine approached one of the men in the mosque saying, "He's [expletive] faking he's dead. He's faking he's [expletive] dead."
The Marine raised his rifle and fired into the insurgents head, at which point a companion said, "Well, he's dead now."
The camera then shows two Americans pointing weapons at another Iraqi insurgent lying motionless. But one of the Marines step back as the insurgent stretches out his hand, motioning that he is alive. The other Marine stands his ground, but neither of them fires.
When told by the pool reporter that the men were among those wounded in Friday's firefight, the Marine who fired the shot said, "I didn't know, sir. I didn't know."
"You can hear the tension in those Marines' voices. One is saying, 'He's faking it. He's faking it,'" Heyman said. "In a combat infantry soldier's training, he is always taught that his enemy is at his most dangerous when he is severely wounded."
A Marine in the same unit had been killed just a day earlier when he tended to the booby-trapped dead body of an insurgent.
NBC reported that the Marine seen shooting the Iraqi insurgent had himself been shot in the face the day before, but quickly returned to duty.
About a block away, a Marine was killed and five others wounded by a booby-trapped body they found in a house after a shootout with insurgents.
Amnesty International has noted reports that insurgents have used mosques as fighting positions, and have used white flags to lure Marines into ambushes.
The Marine who shot the insurgent has been withdrawn from the battlefield pending the results of an investigation, the U.S. military said.
These terrorists do not follow the rules of war. These terrorists kill innocent women by disemboweling them, cut of the heads of innocent truck drivers, detonate car bombs in crowds full of innocent people, and fly planes into buildings filled with innocent Americans.
It is my opinion that NOTHING should happen to this American Marine. He should be returned to his unit or be given an honorable discharge. We don't need our young men and women taking an extra second to decide if its right to shoot an enemy terrorist when that could mean that one of our soldiers could lose their life. The lives of our soldiers should be the single most important factor in this war against terrorism. The rights of terrorists can come second.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned

Happy Thanksgiving. It just doesn't seem like a holiday without the hubby, though. :(
