I guess I'm a weird one. I never had any wisdom teeth. Dentist told me that happens to like 1 in maybe a million people.

Vicodin works good for pain, but be careful if you're allergic to Codeine when taking it. Vicodin is an artificial codeine. I was allergic to codeine and was prescribed the vicodin with them trying to tell me that it would be Ok because it wasn't really related to it. 3 or 4 months after starting it (I took it for bad migraines) I had a bad reaction. Heaved my guts out for the next 8 hours and was shaking like I had the DT's. I never took another one after that.

Funny thing is,,,I just had a wisdom tooth pulled 8 days ago, and one yesterday as well. The first time, he told me to just take tylenol, or whatever I take for pain, and if that didn't work, then to call him, and he would call me in something for pain. I was like, well, go ahead and call it in now, cause if this baby starts hurting in the middle of the night, I'm coming to your house. He laughed and called me in Vicoden. I went ahead and got it, but took Motrin every 4 hours, until I HAD to take the Vicoden. Never did. And I really think as long as I'm careful this time, and don't get a dry socket, I'll be ok. I've had literally no pain (knock on wood). Good luck!

If you are actuallly having them surgically removed then they will give you a prescription for pain meds. A lot of times if you're just having it extracted by the dentist in his office then they will tell you to take tylenol. I had three of mine pulled and was given nothing for pain. It didn't hurt anyhow which was good. The last one has to be removed by an oral surgeon because it grew in horizontally.

Hubby had his out earlier this year. He shoulda had 'em out a long time ago, but his parents were not responsible enough of parents to take him when he was younger, so they were all mashed in his mouth, and the dentist had a hard time taking them out, but he got darvocets for his pain. Thats what he takes for his back pain, and he got dry socket too, so he was really hurting.
