I have a cubbyhole about 12x12x12 in the hutch on my desk. It has a mouse, a fish (I stole back from Sarah) a raccoon, a moose, a stuffed mushroom & tomato, an uglydevilbobbleheadthingy, a troll, 2 bitsy rabbits. On top is a teddybear, a flamingo, some sort of undefined critter with wings, another little teddy...
Sorta feel like a kid again! :)
And that's good cuz I'm having a midlife crisis and not one family member will buy me that d*mned Aston-Martin convertible OR the Nighthawk bike. :rolleyes: They are NOT helping things or gaining ANY brownie points with this ol' bag.

The Aston-Martin is a steal at $135. The Nighthawk is a classic, .650, 1982, pristine, $1800.
I'll fix'em all. I'll buy me that bike myself and I won't take any of them for a ride. ;)

Food for Leprechauns!
Barm Brack
Makes 1 loaf.
Also known as Irish speckled bread, it's named for 'barm,' the froth that forms on the top of fermenting malt liquors and in preyeast days was used to leaven the dough. The loaf is moist and rich, served fresh the first day it's baked, then toasted and slathered with butter and jam as it ages.
• 1 pkg. (or scant tbsp.) active dry yeast
• 1 c. warm whole milk
• 3 c. all-purpose flour
• 1 tsp. grated nutmeg
• 1/2 c. sugar
• 2 tsp. cardamom seeds
• 3/4 c. (1 1/2 sticks) melted butter
• 1 1/4 c. currants
• 3/4 c. chopped crystallized ginger
• 3 eggs
Put the yeast into a small bowl and add the milk. Add a sprinkling of flour and leave in a warm place for 15 minutes until the surface is covered with bubbles.
In a large bowl, stir together the flour, nutmeg, sugar and cardamom, then stir in the melted butter, currants and ginger. Blend in the yeast mixture with the eggs and beat well with a wooden spoon. Turn dough out of the bowl onto a lightly floured board and knead lightly. Flours vary in the amount of liquid they absorb and it may be necessary to work in a little flour to keep the dough from sticking. Knead for about 10 minutes, then return the dough to the bowl and cover it with a cloth. Allow the dough to rise to double, about 1 1/2 hours.
Grease a 9-inch round cake pan. Punch the dough down, then press into the pan. Cover the dough and leave until doubled, about 50 minutes. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
Bake for 30 minutes. Reduce the heat to 325 degrees and continue baking until the bread is firm, another 45 minutes. Remove from the oven and set on a wire rack for about 5 minutes, then turn out of the pan and continue to cool on the rack.

Irish Soda Cake
Makes 1 loaf.
This is the basic recipe for soda cake or, as it's often called, soda bread. In the past, this might have been baked on a griddle over a gentle turf fire. It's always scored in quarters (marked like a cross, called a 'farl'). Before serving, it is broken into fourths, then sliced. Always served with lots of salted butter and sometimes jam, it's the classic companion to strong Irish tea.
• 2 c. all-purpose flour
• 1 c. whole-wheat flour
• 1/2 tsp. salt (or more to taste)
• 1/2 tsp. baking soda
• 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
• 1 1/4 c. buttermilk
• 2 tbsp. honey
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Lightly grease a baking sheet. Sift together all-purpose flour, wheat flour, salt, baking soda and cream of tartar. Stir together the buttermilk and honey, then mix into the dry ingredients to make a soft dough, but one that can be kneaded (adding more buttermilk if it is too stiff). Turn on to a lightly floured board and knead a few times, then shape into an 8-to 10-inch round about 1 1/2 to 2 inches thick. Set the dough on the baking sheet. Mark into quarters (called 'farls'), but do not cut through the dough.
Bake until the loaf is solid, about 30 minutes, reducing the heat if it seems to be browning too quickly (it should be pale). To test if it's cooked, knock the bread on the bottom; it should sound hollow.

Cabbage and Potato Soup
1 medium onion, minced
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
3 cups shredded cabbage
1/4 cup chopped cabbage
3 cups water
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups diced potato
1 (141/2-ounce) can evaporated milk
Minced parsley
Dash of paprika
Cook onion slowly in the butter until golden. Add cabbage to the onion with the water, salt, and potato. Cook until tender, 15 - 20 minutes. Add milk and reheat, but do not boil. Serve sprinkled with minced parsley and a dash of paprika

Reuben Sandwich Casserole
2 tablespoons salad oil
1 large onion, sliced thick
1 small (1-pound) head cabbage, in thin wedges
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup water
1/3 cup mayonnaise
1/3 cup chili sauce
1/4 cup milk
1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish
1/2 pound thin-sliced deli corned beef
1/4 pound thin-sliced Swiss cheese
1/2 (8-ounce) loaf party pumpernickel bread slices
In a large skillet heat oil and add onions; cook until tender. Remove onions. Add cabbage wedges and brown. Add salt and water. Over high heat, heat to boiling. Cover and reduce heat to low. Simmer 10 minutes or until cabbage is tender.
In a small bowl combine mayonnaise, chili sauce, milk, and relish. Stir until well blended.
In a 9x13-inch dish, arrange onions, cooked cabbage, corned beef, and cheese; top with slices of bread. Spread mayonnaise mixture evenly on top of bread slices. Cover and bake at 375º for 20 - 25 minutes

I NEED this bike Fugi. To 'reclaim' my youth...bwhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha...a nd possibly test Sarah's medical skills. Hmmm, I haven't had road rash in, ooooh, 29-30 years? ;)
Besides, the bike is get-able.
