SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KCRA) —A 5.7-magnitude earthquake rattled the Sacramento Valley on Thursday evening, including the downtown area.

KCRA 3 studios, located downtown Sacramento, felt the quake at 8:48 p.m.

Chief meteorologist Mark Finan said he hadn't felt one like this in awhile. The newsroom floor started swaying and he jumped into action.

KCRA 3 is waiting for information on how far away it was felt. There's no word on any possible injuries or damage reports.

Several small aftershocks jolted Northen California, as well.

A rally is being held downtown right now to celebrate the Sacramento Kings. KCRA 3 reporter Mallory Hoff said there was much confusion as the earthquake started, considering the loud music and packed atmosphere.

Angelenos were understandably freaking out after this morning’s 4.7-magnitude earthquake.

But perhaps no one was more shaken up than KTLA’s Chris Schauble:

Yellowstone Earthquake: Volcanic Eruption Not Expected After Strongest Tremor in 34 Years

By Nick Wiltgen Published: Mar 31, 2014, 7:48 AM EDT

Yellowstone National Park was shaken by its largest earthquake in 34 years Sunday, but scientists say there is no concern that the quake will lead to an eruption of the Yellowstone Caldera, a supervolcano located in the park.

The magnitude-4.8 earthquake struck inside the park boundaries at 6:34 a.m. MDT Sunday. The epicenter was near the middle of the park, near the Norris Geyser Basin, according to Peter Cervelli of the U.S. Geological Survey.

    Earthquake Details
The quake, the largest since another 4.8 tremor on February 22, 1980, was preceded by two foreshocks measuring 2.8 and 3.0 at 12:23 a.m. and 4:36 a.m. Sunday, respectively. The main shock was then followed by at least four aftershocks ranging in magnitude from 2.5 to 3.3 later Sunday morning.

There were no immediate reports of damage. There are few visitors in the park this time of year.

Cervelli said the earthquake is interesting scientifically because of the length of time since a quake of equal intensity. He added that data gathered from earthquakes give scientists great insight into volcanoes and tectonics.

However, Cervelli said there are no hazardous implications, and that the Yellowstone Caldera is not about to erupt.

The earthquakes at Yellowstone came on the same day that a swarm of quakes, three of them greater than magnitude 4.0, struck central Oklahoma.

Oklahoma Earthquakes: Weekend Swarm Produces State's Strongest Quakes of 2014
    Published: Mar 31, 2014, 5:49 AM EDT

A swarm of earthquakes began in central Oklahoma Saturday and continued Sunday, producing the state's strongest quakes so far in 2014, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The primary swarm of earthquakes was centered in northwestern Logan County and northeastern Kingfisher County, about 12 miles north of Crescent, or about 46 miles north of Oklahoma City.

In that cluster, the USGS recorded 11 earthquakes ranging in magnitude from 2.7 to 4.5 between 10 p.m. CDT Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday.

A magnitude-4.5 jolt at 9:09 a.m. CDT Sunday became the state's strongest earthquake so far in 2014. Earlier in the swarm, two earthquakes measuring 4.3 on the moment magnitude scale had been the strongest earthquakes so far this year in Oklahoma, eclipsing a 4.1 jolt centered near Langston on Feb. 8. Those quakes occurred at 1:51 a.m. and 3:42 a.m. Sunday.

All three of the strongest tremors were felt across a wide area. The "Did You Feel It?" section of the USGS website received reports of shaking as far north as the Kansas City metropolitan area and as far south as Norman, Okla. Vibrations were also felt as far east as the Tulsa area from all three incidents.

A separate cluster of earthquakes occurred near Choctaw, an eastern suburb of Oklahoma City, on Saturday and Saturday night. Six earthquakes ranging in magnitude from 2.4 to 3.7 were reported between 1 a.m. CDT Saturday and 1 a.m. CDT Sunday. The strongest temblor occurred at 10:08 p.m. Saturday and was felt across much of the Oklahoma City metropolitan area.

Earlier this month, a study confirmed that Oklahoma's strongest recent earthquake, a damaging magnitude-5.7 quake in 2011 near Prague, was caused by wastewater injection related to hydraulic fracturing, also known as fracking, a method of gas and oil extraction.

UPDATE: A computer model from officials from the National Tsunami Warning Center shows the forecasted tsunami wave propagation from today's magnitude 8.2 earthquake off the coast of northern Chile

Massive 8.2 earthquake off Chile coast sparks tsunami
    SANTIAGO Tue Apr 1, 2014 9:36pm EDT

(Reuters) - A major earthquake of magnitude 8.2 struck off the coast of Chile on Tuesday, triggering a tsunami that hit the northern part of the country, but the government said there was no serious damage and no reports of deaths.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake was shallow at 12.5 miles below the seabed and struck about 100 km northwest of the mining port of Iquique near the Peruvian border.

The Chilean navy said the first tsunami wave had hit the coast within 45 minutes of the quake. Authorities evacuated part of the coast and a tsunami warning was issued for all of South and Central America's Pacific coast.

Chile is the world's No. 1 copper producer but key mining firms said there was no serious damage to their operations.

In 2010, an 8.8-magnitude quake triggered a tsunami that devastated several coastal towns in central-south Chile, a disaster that killed 526 people.

Chile's ONEMI emergency office said late on Tuesday that landslides were partially blocking some roads and highways, and local radio stations said power went out in Iquique, but the government said it had no reports of deaths or injuries.

Iquique is a key copper exporting port, close to Chile's main copper mines. State-owned miner Codelco reported no harm to its workers or mines, and said its operations in northern Chile were normal.

Mining company BHP Billiton said it had not received reports of damage to mines.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said that the coasts of Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica and Nicaragua were also at risk.

"An earthquake of this size has the potential to generate a destructive tsunami that can strike coastlines near the epicenter within minutes and more distant coastlines within hours," it said.

Authorities in Peru started evacuating communities in the southern coastal region of Ica, RPP radio reported.
