    Terror Attack in France

Truck attacker kills over 70 in Nice Bastille Day crowd

    By Michel Rose

PARIS, July 15 (Reuters) - France's anti-terrorism investigation department was asked to take over inquiries into the Thursday night attack in which dozens were killed by a truck that mowed through crowds of people in the southern coastal resort town of Nice, media reported.

In the immediate aftermath of an incident which initial reports said killed upwards of 70 people, officials declined to formally declare the attack as terrorist assault pending further news. But several French media said the anti-terrorist investigation department had been put on the case. (Reporting by Michel Rose and Bate Felix; Writing by Brian Love)

This is a breaking news update. Check back later for more.

EARLIER STORY: NICE, France, July 14 (Reuters) - An attacker killed at least 73 people and injured scores when he drove a truck at high speed into a crowd watching Bastille Day fireworks in the French Riviera city of Nice late on Thursday, local media quoted officials as saying.

Police shot and killed the driver, who drove the heavy, long-distance truck at speed for well over 100 meters (yards) along the famed Promenade des Anglais seafront, hitting the mass of spectators late in the evening, regional official Sebastien Humbert told France Info radio.

The man had opened fire on the crowd, local government chief Christian Estrosi told BFM TV, and weapons and grenades were found inside the truck after he was killed.

"It's a scene of horror," local member of parliament Eric Ciotti told France Info, saying the truck had sped along the pavement fronting the Mediterranean, before being stopped by police after "mowing down several hundred people."

Local broadcasters quoted officials as saying the preliminary death toll was 73. Other officials put the number of wounded as high as in the hundreds.

Humbert described it as a clear criminal attack, although the driver was not yet identified. Residents of the Mediterranean city close to the Italian border were advised to stay indoors. There was no sign of any other attack.

Almost exactly eight months ago Islamic State militants killed 130 people in Paris on Nov. 13, the bloodiest in a number of attacks in France and Belgium in the past two years. On Sunday, France had breathed a sigh of relief as the month-long Euro 2016 soccer tournament ended without a feared attack.

Police denied rumors on social media of a subsequent hostage-taking. Vehicle attacks have been used by isolated members of militant groups in recent years, notably in Israel, as well as in Europe, though never to such devastating effect.

    HIDING IN TERROR

One woman told France Info she and others had fled in terror: "The lorry came zig-zagging along the street. We ran into a hotel and hid in the toilets with lots of people."

Another woman told the station she was sheltering in a restaurant on the promenade with some 200 other people, where things had calmed down about two hours after the incident.

Nice-Matin journalist Damien Allemand reported from the scene as events unfolded: "People are running. It's panic. He rode up onto the Prom and piled into the crowd ... There are people covered in blood. There must be many injured."

The paper published a photograph of a damaged, long-distance delivery truck, which it said was riddled with bullets and images of emergency services treating the injured. Social media carried images of those hit lying apparently lifeless in pools of blood, prompting police to ask people to stop such posts.

Regional government chief Estrosi has warned in the past of the risk of Islamist attacks in the region, following Islamic State bloodshed in Paris and Brussels over the past 18 months.

The city, with a population of some 350,000 and a history as a flamboyant but also gritty metropolis in the sun, has seen some of its Muslim residents travel to Syria to fight, a path taken by previous Islamic State attackers in Europe.

French President Francois Hollande, who was in the south of France at the time of the attack but raced back to Paris to the national crisis center, had hours earlier said that a state of emergency put in place after the Paris attacks in November would not be extended when it expires on July 26.

"We can't extend the state of emergency indefinitely, it would make no sense. That would mean we're no longer a republic with the rule of law applied in all circumstances," Hollande told journalists in a traditional Bastille Day interview.

His interior minister, Bernard Cazeneuve, was expected in Nice overnight, a source in the ministry said.

Mixed reports coming in. The Eiffel tower is engulfed in flames, but it is uncertain if it is linked to the terror attack in Nice. Some are saying this is due to terrorism.

As we reported, at least 75 people have been killed and 100’s more injured in the southern French city of Nice tonight after a truck was “deliberately driven” into a crowd out celebrating Bastille Day in a confirmed terrorist attack.

The truck contained explosives. Body parts are strewn all over the streets. People are panicking.

Witnesses said the truck picked up speed and “rammed” the crowd where it was thickest at more than 30mph, and images emerged of the cab riddled with bullets. One said he saw the driver emerge with a gun after the truck came to a halt and begin shooting at the fleeing crowd.

Police have identified the driver, who was killed during the incident, and it is believed to have been a man who was known to security services. Separate reports emerged tonight that police fear four different trucks are involved, raising fears of a massive organized terror attack.

We can’t confirm that this is another terrorist attack but the bottom line is that this world is all screwed up.

Our hearts and prayers go out to the hundreds of people senselessly slaughtered in France today.

    These are terrible times.

    This is war.

    From WTKR:

The driver pointed his tractor-trailer into the crowd and accelerated, mowing bodies over, witnesses said. Police shot the driver to death, authorities said. Nobody has claimed responsibility

Here are the latest developments in the tragedy:

    • The attack in Nice, France, began when an occupant of the truck shot into the crowd and then drove for 2 kilometers along the pavement of the Boulevard des Anglais, the main street in Nice, Estrosi told CNN affiliate BFM-TV. He said police later found firearms, explosives and grenades in the truck.

    • American Dominique Molina, who was watching from a balcony, said the fireworks had just ended and a crowd on the beach was disbanding. “People were flooding the streets, just walking away from the show, and I heard a lot of loud noises and people were screaming and so to the west, a big moving truck was driving on the promenade, just barreling over people and hitting — running people over.” She estimated the truck moved at 20-25 mph.

    • Anti-terror prosecutors have taken over the investigation, according to BFMTV, citing the prosecutor’s office.

    • Preliminary information from French officials is that there was one individual in the truck, according to a U.S. law enforcement official briefed on the attack. The individual, a male, was killed by police, according to the official.

    • Witness Ryan Hubbs said he encountered people on the street who’d lost multiple family members. They weren’t sure what to do but waited for authorities, though that was very difficult for them.

    • President Obama issued a statement condemning the attack and saying, “We stand in solidarity and partnership with France, our oldest ally, as they respond to and recover from this attack.”

At least 84 people are now dead from the attack. 188 are injured including many children. 2 Americans, a father and son from Texas, were among the dead.

France truck attacker’s last TWO WORDS revealed; media silent

Written by Michelle Jesse, Associate Editor on July 15, 2016

The morning after a massive truck mowed down dozens of innocent souls out celebrating a national holiday, 84 are dead, including 10 children. Two Americans are among the dead. 188 have been admitted to hospitals, with 48 in critical condition and 25 in intensive care. [H/T ABC News via Breitbart] French President Francois Hollande describes 50 of those injured as “between life and death.”

We’re learning more about the attacker himself as well, who has been named locally as a 31-year-old French-Tunisian called Mohamed Lahouaiej Boisvert

And in case his name isn’t a tip-off that this wasn’t some right-wing Christian gun-loving nut job, witnesses claim he shouted — wait for it — “Allahu Akbar” — before opening fire on officers.

Sadly, of course all of us know by now these Arabic words meaning God is greatest.

As Breitbart reports, French authorities are treating the incident as “an attack”; French President François Hollande declared it an “undeniable” terrorist attack. So far, however, we have yet to hear leaders come out and put that word “Islamist” in front of the words “terrorist attack” — no doubt for fear of being politically incorrect and risking accusations of rushing to judgement.

Tragically, attacker Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel was known to police as a career criminal, but not known to intelligence services. One has to wonder… were there red flags authorities might have picked up on in Bouhlel’s criminal past to suggest a terror risk, had they not been willfully blinded by political correctness?

Terror in France, coup in Turkey as Obama celebrates THIS…
Written by Allen West on July 15, 2016

It is supposedly Barack Obama’s signature foreign policy achievement — right up there with withdrawing all U.S. military troops from Iraq. It was part of a pivot strategy away from the Middle East to the Pacific — though hard to see what impact we’re having in the Pacific either. One year ago yesterday, we entered into an agreement with Iran called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. And if you want to know how I felt about this foolish endeavor, I shared my thoughts with some 10K folks last year in New York City’s Times Square, which you can see here if you missed it:

In a Fox News oped piece, Kansas Congressman Mike Pompeo states, Today marks one year since Secretary of State John Kerry and Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Zarif agreed to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). On this date, we ought to take the opportunity not to re-litigate that “political commitment,” but evaluate whether it has helped protect the United States, our people, and our interests. Unfortunately for our country’s future, the answer to that inquiry is a resounding no.

The JCPOA can perhaps delay Iran’s nuclear weapons program for a few years. Conversely, it has virtually guaranteed that Iran will have the freedom to build an arsenal of nuclear weapons at the end of the commitment. Further, in the past year, the Islamic Republic of Iran has launched multiple ballistic missiles – testing increasingly complex and longer range missiles. It has grown its support of terrorist groups, and it continues to take hostages. The deal has, in fact, made our country less safe.

Every year since 1984, the U.S. State Department has designated Iran a state sponsor of terrorism, a finding the Department renewed again last month. Yet the Obama administration still holds out that its political commitment, drafted by a few bureaucrats committed to getting a deal at any cost, can change decades of Iran’s entrenched and militant commitment to “death to America.” As a result of the billions of dollars flowing into Iran after the JCPOA, the Iranian regime is able to increase its support to terrorist group groups like Hezbollah. That group’s chief said recently that “Hezbollah’s budget, its income, its expenses, everything it eats and drinks, its weapons and rockets, are from the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

What Rep. Pompeo does not mention are the explosive force penetrators (EFPs) produced by Iran and used by Islamic terrorists in Iraq. These are lethal improvised explosive devices (IEDs) that are responsible for nearly 20% of the casualties in that combat theater of operations. Perhaps there are those of you on the left who do not care, since you feel Iraq was “Bush’s War” — well, then ISIS is Obama’s creation.

And worse, the number one state sponsor of Islamic terrorism has been bankrolled by the Obama administration and you can bet that the coffers of Hezbollah, Hamas, the Quds Force, and the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps will be overflowing. We know that Obama and Kerry have been effectively lobbying for more capital to flow into Iran’s theocratic regime along with the crony capitalism of Obama assisting Boeing in securing contracts with Iran — and the GOP is the party of big business? It was the House and Senate GOP who have made it a cause to block this cronyism and collusion with the terrorist regime that has blood of Americans on their hands since 1983.

Who can forget the images of our Sailors on their knees at gun point done so by the Iranians? And it was John Kerry who thanked them for taking care of our Sailors.

In the past year, there has been no foreseeable change in the behavior of Iran, actually, their belligerence has increased — along with a new alliance with Russia. As Rep. Pompeo points out, “While Congress still awaits answers on whether the U.S. paid $1.7 billion in taxpayer dollars to free five Americans that Iran was holding hostage, the Iranian regime continues to capture and hold new hostages, including Americans. In March, Iran abducted a French woman. In April, Iran apprehended a British mother. A few weeks later, Iran arrested a Dutch broadcaster. In June, Iranian authorities detained a female Canadian professor. I fear what July will bring.”

Yes Congressman, many of us fear what the next 6-7 months will bring for America, and the world. In one year, the Obama administration has enabled the rise of the most savage Islamic terrorist group, while financing the exploits of the number one state sponsor of Islamic terrorism. And we’re told this is a resounding foreign policy success and we have avoided war.

Hardly. We have financed the aims of a violent theocracy. Iran must be isolated and brought to its knees as long as it has the leadership of the black-robed mystics called the Ayatollahs. We must have leadership that draws a line, and not some faux “red line.” We are not supporting the Muslim reformists because they continue to be dismissed by folks such as Obama. And as long as folks like Obama continue to obfuscate, deny, and lie about the existence of this enemy, the reformists have no backing — and they are therefore the ones isolated.

After the Islamic terrorist attacks in Nice, I suppose we will dispatch Loretta Lynch for displays of compassion, unity, and love to the enemy. God knows we have certainly provided them material support, comfort, aiding and abetting their efforts by way of billions of dollars, and our cowardice.
