ACLU leader quits after daughters encounter men in the women’s restroom

    http://www.powerlineblog.com/archive...s-restroom.php

"Maya Dillard Smith, interim director of the Georgia chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, has resigned over the ACLU’s position on who can use which public restrooms. The resignation occurred after her two daughters were traumatized by encountering men in the women’s restroom. Dillard Smith explained:

I have shared my personal experience of having taken my elementary school age daughters into a women’s restroom when shortly after three transgender young adults, over six feet [tall] with deep voices, entered. My children were visibly frightened, concerned about their safety and left asking lots of questions for which I, like many parents, was ill-prepared to answer. "

Why a Dem ACLU Leader Resigned Over Obama's Trans Bathroom Policy

The head of the ACLU's Georgia chapter resigned because of President Obama's transgender directive requiring public schools to allow students to use the bathroom of the gender they identify with.

Maya Dillard Smith told The Kelly File she took a stand on the issue after witnessing three transgender young adults over six feet tall with deep voices enter a women's restroom, which frightened her elementary school age daughters.

She said the ACLU didn't provide "the opportunity for robust discourse on the competing civil rights" of LGBT equality and religious freedom.

Smith, a Democrat, said she is open-minded about the issue and wanted to learn more about it through a debate, but the ACLU was not agreeable to it.

She added that the same thing applies in the case of religious freedom bills that have been passed in the United States.

"It became very evident to me that the ACLU and myself were simply principally and philosophically unaligned on a number of issues," she said.
