    Umpqua Community College

A mass shooting has been reported at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office says.

Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblaum said on MSNBC that at least 13 people, including the gunman, were killed in the shooting. Oregon State Police have said that as many as 20 others were injured at UCC.

Police said the 20-year-old male shooter, who has not yet been identified, is dead and there is no longer a threat. It’s not yet known if the gunman was a student or was affiliated with the southern Oregon school. He was armed with four guns, three handguns and an AR-15-style long gun, according to CNN.

Here’s what you need to know:

    1. The Gunman Told Students to Stand Up & State Their Religion

Witnesses said the gunman told the students in a classroom to stand up and state their religion before he began firing away, the News-Review, a local newspaper, reports.

Police radio transmissions from the initial call reveal some of the chaos as officers rushed to the community college (listen to them above).

The first call came in as a shooter with one victim. Police were told the shooting happened at Snyder Hall, and the shooter was outside the door of a room, shooting into it.

One of the first officers on the scene said they were exchanging gunshots with the male shooter inside a classroom in Snyder Hall. The suspect was reported to be down about 9 minutes after the call came in.

"The shooter was lining people up and asking if they were christian," she wrote using the lower-case C. "If they said yes, then they were shot in the head. If they said no, or didn't answer, they were shot in the legs.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook, “At about 10:38 AM, the 911 center received a report of a shooting at Umpqua Community College. Police units from multiple juristictions have responded. Students and faculty members are being bused to the Douglas County Fairgrounds and can be picked up there. We have no further information at this time.”

    2. The Gunman May Have Warned About the Shooting Online

There are reports that the gunman may have warned about the shooting on the anonymous message board 4Chan.

CNN is reporting that police are investigating whether the posts were connected to the shooting.

The post Wednesday night at 7:19 p.m. local time said “Some of you guys are alright. Don’t go to school tomorrow if you live in the northwest.”

Some posters on the message board encouraged him and egged him on, while others told him it was a bad idea.

One person responded saying, “I suggest you enter a classroom and tell people that you will take them as hostages. Make everyone get in one corner and then open fire. Make sure that there is no way that someone can disarm you as it it possible. I suggest you carry a knife on your belt as last resort if someone is holding your gun.”

Another poster said, “You might want to target a girls school which is safer because there are no beta males throwing themselves for their rescue. Do not use a shotgun. I would suggest a powerful assault rifle and a pistol or 2x pistols. Possibly the type of pistols who have 15+ ammo.”

    4. The School Is in a Quiet Town About 175 Miles From Portland

The school is located in Roseburg, Oregon, in Douglas County.

According to the school’s Wikipedia page, about 3,300 students attend Umpqua Community College full-time, and more than 16,000 attend on a part-time basis.

“Nestled in the beautiful North Umpqua River Valley, Umpqua Community College is the regional center for higher education,” it says on its Facebook page.

UCC, a two-year college, was founded in 1964. It is on a 100-acre campus with 16 academic buildings, offices and other facilities.

It is about 175 miles south of Portland and 65 miles south of Eugene.

    5. President Obama Spoke Emotionally About Gun Violence After the Shooting

For the 15th time, President Obama addressed the nation after a mass shooting. In an emotional speech, Obama said it has become routine.

“I hope and pray that I don’t have to come out again in my tenure as president to offer my condolences to families under these circumstances. But based on my experience as president, I can’t guarantee that,” he said.

“Someone will comment and say, ‘Obama politicized this issue.’ Well, this is something we should politicize. It is relevant to our common life together, to the body politic.”

someone also tweeted ... Obama getting his azz handed to him ove Syria and the Russians... and suddenly there is a school shooting to dominate the MSM. ???

Forget Oregon’s Gunman. Remember the Hero Who Charged Straight at Him.

No amount of murder seems likely to result in gun control any time soon. So let’s do what we can to stop the lunacy—by reserving the limelight for the vet who rushed gunman - being shot 5 times in the chest

Hero Chris Mintz shot as he faced Oregon community college shooter

An army veteran was in stable condition at an Oregon hospital Friday, a day after facing a gunman during a deadly shooting at a community college in Oregon, Mercy Medical Center officials said.

Chris Mintz, 30, was shot seven times, according to Shelly Stefanich, a spokeswoman for Mercy Medical Center.

His family members said he jumped into action to save the lives of people in his classroom, WFMY-TV reports.

Mintz heard gunshots in the classroom next to his and instead of running, walked toward the gunman, according to his cousin, Ariana Earnhardt.

“He told the people in his classroom just be calm. He met the shooter at the door and said to calm down. He tried to talk to him and talk him out of it,” Earnhardt told WFMY-TV.

Earnhardt said Mintz was in the military for 10 years, and moved to Oregon from North Carolina to be close to his son. The 30-year-old tried to keep the gunman from getting into the classroom and was shot three times, his aunt, Wanda Mintz, told KCPQ-TV.

"(He) hit the floor, looks up at gunman, and says, 'It's my son's birthday today.' (And he) gets shot two more times,” Wanda Mintz told KCPQ. At some point, Mintz was shot twice more.

Ten people were killed and seven injured in the shooting at Umpqua Community College. It was the fifth shooting on a U.S. college campus since August of this year.

Authorities say the male shooter — who they have refused to name publicly in an effort to avoid giving him further notoriety — was killed in a shootout with police around 10:30 a.m. PT on Thursday.

"Let me be very clear: I will not name the shooter," Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin said at an evening press conference on Thursday. "Focus your attention on the victims and their families and helping them recover." Federal law enforcement officials nevertheless identified the shooter as Chris Mercer, who lived in the area.

On social media, the hashtag #ChrisMintz is trending as people share his story and offer support for his family and the other victims.

There has been a push from authorities and many of the victims' families not to use the alleged shooter’s name. One person tweeted, "I haven't seen the shooter's name once, but I know the name Chris Mintz."

Army Veteran Chris Mintz Shot Confronting Oregon Shooter Posts on Facebook

Chris Mintz is recovering from surgery after being shot seven times

    By Adam Carlson
    @acarlson91 10/03/2015 AT 11:35 AM EDT

Chris Mintz, the army veteran who was shot seven times while reportedly confronting the Oregon college shooter, shared a Facebook update on Saturday, his first time speaking on social media since the shooting.

"Hope the others injured and their families are doing well, goodnight for me," Mintz, 30, wrote.

He was in serious condition after being wounded Thursday during the gunman's rampage at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon, his aunt Wanda Kay Mintz previously told PEOPLE.

"He was trying to hold the door and block the gunman," family member Derek Bourgeois told the New York Times.

The gunman, identified as 26-year-old XXXXXXXX killed nine and wounded nine more, officials said.

Mintz's autistic son, Tyrik, turned 6 on Thursday, Mintz's friend, Kayla Saffell, told PEOPLE.

When he confronted the gunman, Mintz reportedly said he didn't want to die on his son's birthday, Saffell said.

He underwent surgery Thursday, Wanda Kay told PEOPLE.

"We're just so thankful he's alive; none of the bullets hit any major organs," she said. "Both his legs were hit and broken. He was shot in the stomach, the back and his hand. One bullet traveled down his spine, and became lodged in his hip. The doctors are just going to leave it there."

"He was on the wrestling team and he's done cage-fighting," aunt Sheila Brown told NBC News, "so it does not surprise me that he would act heroically."

Alek Skarlatos on Oregon shooting: 'I wish I could have been there'
    By Wade Sheridan | Oct. 2, 2015

ROSEBURG, Ore., Oct. 2 (UPI) -- Dancing with the Stars contestant Alek Skarlatos is opening up about his time attending Umpqua Community College and his regret that he could not be there to help out during the mass shooting.

The 22-year-old Army National Guard Specialist, who became an international hero after helping to foil a mass murder plot aboard a France commuter train, had to put his Dancing with the Stars rehearsals on hold after he heard of the terrible tragedy at the school that left 10 dead and seven injured.

"I was enrolled as a student at Umpqua Community College prior to my 2014 deployment to Afghanistan," Skarlatos said in a statement. "While I was fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time, in August aboard a train bound for Paris, I only wish that the same could be said for today," said Skarlatos.

"I wish that I could have been there today to assist. I praise the first responders who were on the ground today in Roseburg as they undoubtedly were integral in saving numerous lives and putting a stop to what could have been more than tragic than it is. My heart and prayers go out to this community, my community, right now."

Skarlatos later tweeted that he was on his way back to Oregon.

"Heading home to Roseburg tonight. Everyone send thoughts and prayers to the families," he wrote.

During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show show Thursday, Skarlatos noted how he could have been on campus were he not competing on Dancing with the Stars.

"I mean I would have been there today if I didn't agree to do this show, he said referring to DWTS. "I had classes picked out and everything."

President Barack Obama also expressed his sorrow and frustration regarding the deadly campus shooting and reiterated his belief that gun laws in the United States need to change to avoid incidents like the one in Oregon.

I have heard several comments about the "coincidence" of a mass shooting in a tiny town that no one has ever heard of until it was revealed as the home town of one of the 'Heros' who thwarted the French Subway shooting. hmmmm

Oregon shooting victims: Teens just starting out, teacher

PORTLAND, Ore. — The nine people killed after a gunman opened fire on an Oregon community college campus Thursday took different paths to the small rural college, ranging from teens starting college for the first time to adults who were seeking a second career. One was an assistant professor of English at the college.

The worst mass shooting in Oregon history also injured several others at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon. The gunman died following a shootout with police. Some family members took to social media early after news of the shooting broke, expressing concern that they hadn't yet heard from relatives. Many used that same platform to express their heartbreak once their worst fears were confirmed.

Authorities released the identities of the victims Friday.

    ____

Kim Saltmarsh Dietz, 59, loved the outdoors, her 18-year-old daughter and her two Great Pyrenees dogs, said Robert Stryk, the owner of Pyrenees Vineyards in Myrtle Creek, where Dietz worked as a caretaker for many years.

Dietz was taking classes at the same college as her daughter, who was unhurt in the shooting, Stryk said.

"That's really the tragedy here, is that this is a woman who was just trying to better herself," he said.

Dietz's ex-husband, Eric, is the vineyard manager, and both were still close friends, Stryk said.

Eric Dietz, who had posted updates on his Facebook page while searching for news of his daughter and ex-wife, on Friday posted a picture of Kim and confirmation of her death "with deep grief in my heart."

Stryk said that the two had met in Southern California, but that Kim Dietz was originally from England.

"She was a very energetic, very kind, kind soul," he said. "Kim was an exceptional woman."

    ___

The father of 19-year-old Lucero Alcaraz fought back tears and anger outside of his Roseburg home Friday.

"There is no sense in talking about it. It's in vain," Ezequiel Alcaraz said in Spanish. "What's the point in showing our pain?"

Lucero's sister, Maria Leticia Alcaraz, posted to Facebook that her sister was missing, then broke the news that she was dead.

"Never in a million years would I have imagined going through something like this. She was my best friend and my sister," she wrote. "I can't begin to describe how I feel. I'm full of anger, pain, sadness, regret that I didn't get the chance to see her or prevent this from happening."

Maria Leticia Alcaraz wrote of being proud of her sister for getting scholarships that would cover the entirety of her college costs, and for the fact that she was in college honors and wrote that she "would have been a great pediatric nurse."

"You were going to do great things," she wrote.

    ___

Jason Johnson had just started his first week at the college, his mother told NBC News Friday.

Tonja Johnson Engel said that her son had struggled with drug abuse, but decided to continue his education after completing a six-month rehab program with The Salvation Army in Portland.

"The other day, he looked at me and hugged me and said, 'Mom, how long have you been waiting for one of your kids to go to college?' And I said, 'Oh, about 20 years,'" Engel told NBC News.

She said that her son kissed her before he left for class Thursday morning.

"Love ya," Engel told NBC her son told her (http://nbcnews.to/1VsXTDZ ). "I'll see you this afternoon."

In a family statement read by police Friday, Jason's mother said that Jason was proud of himself for enrolling in school, and so was his mom. They felt that Jason had finally found his path. His family says that he will be loved and missed.

    ___

Quinn Glen Cooper of Roseburg, age 18. In a statement issued Friday, his family wrote that "Quinn was funny, sweet, compassionate and such a wonderful loving person."

"He always stood up for people," the statement reads. He was going to take his brown belt test next week, and loved dancing and voice acting and playing Ingress with his older brother, Cody.

"Our lives are shattered beyond repair," his family wrote. We send our condolences to all the families who have been so tragically affected by this deranged gunman. No one should ever have to feel the pain we are feeling. Please remember the victims and their families. Please remember Quinn."

    ___

Lucas Eibel of Roseburg, 18. A statement by his family says that Eibel, who was studying chemistry, loved Future Farmers of America and volunteering at Wildlife Safari and Saving Grace animal shelter.

"He was an amazing soccer player," a family statement reads. His family also noted his academic achievements, including graduating Roseburg High School with high academic marks, receiving a Ford Family Foundation scholarship, and receiving an Umpqua Community College scholars award.

    ___

Lawrence Levine of Glide, 67, was an assistant professor of English at the college. Levine was a member of Steamboaters, a fly fishing and conservation group.

Dale Greenley, a fellow member of the group said Levine was an avid fisherman who used to be a guide on the north Umpqua River.

"He was kind of quiet and laid back, he didn't say much," Greenley said. "But he was a good writer."

    ___

Sarena Dawn Moore of Myrtle Creek, age 44, was a member of Grants Pass Seventh-day Adventist Church, which had a post on its Facebook page mourning her death.

    ___

Treven Taylor Anspach of Sutherlin, age 20.

In a written statement read by officials, his family said that he was "one of the most positive young men, always looking for the best in life."

"Treven was larger than life and brought out the best in those around him," his family wrote.

    ___

Rebecka Ann Carnes of Myrtle Creek, age 18. U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Oregon, said that Carnes is the great-granddaughter of his first cousin. In a written statement, Merkley wrote: "Rebecka's beautiful spirit will be enormously missed."

A GoFundMe site has been set up for Carnes by her cousin, Lisa Crawford at http://bit.ly/1ON5WHD. As of Friday afternoon, the site had raised more than $1,200 to help Carnes' parents "with Becka's final expenses."

"I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to have watched Becka grow up," Crawford wrote on the site. "She had just started a new job and college classes. This isn't how life is supposed to work and I am struggling to wrap my mind around the entire situation."

Crawford asked said that the people in Carnes' life "loved her fiercely and are devastated."

"Don't let life ever become so busy that you don't have a moment to stop and be kind to someone," Crawford wrote. "Let love and gentleness shine in the wake of this violence."

Oregon Mass Shooter On Terror List but Obama Refused To Take From Russia Foreign Intelligence Service SVR and INTERPOL the list for it was NOT POLITICALLY VIABLE IN THE PRESENT ATMOSPHERE.

The Federal Security Services (FSB) is reporting today that an American black-Islamist terror suspect, who yesterday committed an act of mass murder in the State of Oregon (United States), had been included on a list of 87,000 “known/suspected” Islamic terrorists that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) refused last month to accept from the SVR Federation due to its not being “politically viable in the present atmosphere”.

Oregon Killer Chris Harper-Mercer’s Religion, EXPOSED? He is a… (VIDEO)

We are learning more about Chris Harper-Mercer, the Oregon Community College murderer, every hour.

Right now, it looks like Obama – who was quick to blame the National Rifle Association – didn’t mention that the community college was a gun free zone. Nor did he mention anything about the killer… and for good reason!

Chris Harper-Mercer identified on social media as “mixed race.” Interestingly, his MySpace page seems to direct him to people who are supportive of Islamic terrorist organizations. One of his only two connections on MySpace is Mahmoud Ali Ehsani.

Could this be a clue as to why he was so eager to ask victims if they were Christians before he murdered them?

And why didn’t obama make mention of this in his press conference when he went all out to go after guns again, I strongly suggest that you guard that which is yours.

I WANT TO KNOW WHY ABC, NBC, CBS, MSMBC FOX AND THE REST OF THE NEWS MEDIA STATIONS ARE NOT REPORTING THIS?

82 Shot, 15 Dead in City with the Strictest Gun Laws in the United States

In a terribly tragic weekend of violence, 82 people were shot and 15 killed, including children. But what is causing this violence
    ?

Chicago, IL — Inside the city limits of Chicago, not a single gun shop can be found — they’ve been outlawed. With is nearly 3 million residents, Chicago has the most stringent gun laws in the nation.

Gun laws were so strict, in fact, that in 2010, the US Supreme Court interveined saying the law was going to far. However, city lawmakers were able to “keep the ban” without “legally keeping the ban.”

The ban on assault rifles, a high-capacity magazine ban, and nowhere to purchase ammo makes Chicago one of the toughest places in the country to obtain a serviceable and firing weapon, legally.

With these strict laws, how on earth are there still guns in Chicago?

Gun violence in Chicago over the weekend reached near war zone proportions with 82 people being shot between 4 p.m. Thursday and 3:30 a.m. Monday morning. 15 of these shootings were fatal. Tragically, even a 7-year-old child’s life was taken by one of these bullets.

On Monday, Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy blamed the shootings on the fact that people were getting too many guns.

“It all comes down to guns. Too many guns coming in, too little punishment going out,” said McCarthy.

But how is this possible since guns are basically banned in Chicago? Is the law failing to stop criminals from breaking it? How could that be?

Of course, there are two sides to this debacle. Gun rights advocates state the obvious when they say that restricting the possession of guns only keeps guns out of the hands of people who actually listen to the law.

“The gun laws in Chicago only restrict the law-abiding citizens and they’ve essentially made the citizens prey,” said Richard A. Pearson, executive director of the Illinois State Rifle Association.

But on the other side, the gun controllers would like to see even stricter laws across the nation to stop the flow of guns into Chicago.

“Chicago is like a house with two parents that may try to have good rules and do what they can, but it’s like you’ve got this single house sitting on a whole block where there’s anarchy,” said the Rev. Ira J. Acree, one among a group of pastors here who have marched and gathered signatures for an end to so much shooting. “Chicago is an argument for laws that are statewide or, better yet, national.”

Unfortunately, Acree’s sentiment is a popular notion among those who would take away the ability of people to defend themselves. The incredibly flawed logic behind the reverend’s statement and others like him is a common misconception.

Gun control advocates are saying that since this approach has miserably failed on a local level, if we just apply it to the entire nation, then it would somehow magically work.

    But they are wrong.

Of course, a society without guns sounds fantastic and in a perfect utopian world, it would be nice not to need a gun. However, we do not live in utopia.

and control of these substances into the black markets. All the while, demand remains constant.

We can look at the prohibition of alcohol and the subsequent mafia crime wave that ensued as a result.

Criminal gangs form to protect sales territory and supply lines. They then monopolize the control of the constant demand. Their entire operation is dependent upon police arresting people for drugs. However, the illegality of drug possession and use is what keeps the low-level users and dealers in and out of the court systems.

This revolving door of creating and processing criminals fosters the phenomenon known as Recidivism. Recidivism is a fundamental concept of criminal justice that shows the tendency of those who are processed into the system and the likelihood of future criminal behavior.

The War on Drugs creates criminals every single minute of every single day. The system is setup in such a way that it fans the flames of violent crime by essentially building a factory that turns out violent criminals.

    The system knows this too.

When drugs are legalized, gang violence drops — drastically. Not only does it have a huge effect on the localized gangs in America, but the legalization of drugs is crippling to the violent foreign drug cartels too.

Until Americans educate themselves on the cause of this violence, uninformed and corrupt lawmakers will continue to focus on controlling the symptoms.

We will see more senseless killings and more innocent lives stripped of opportunity by getting entangled in the system. It is high time we end the war on drugs.
