Iraqi Refugee Linked To ISIS Arrested For Planting Two Bombs In Texas

Texas has been among the most vocal states in their opposition to the acceptance of Syrian refugees into the country. Now, their fears about the security threats refugees would pose are coming to fruition, right in front of Obama’s face.

According to reports, an Iraqi refugee who came to Houston in 2009 is facing charges for trying to help ISIS. His goal was to set off bombs in two Houston malls. He was already in the process of learning how to make electronic transmitters to detonate these devices when he was taken into custody.

Last week, Omar Faraj Saeed Al Hardan was indicted on three charges, which include attempting to provide support to a designated terrorist organization.

During his court appearance, Al Hardan pleaded not guilty to all three charges. Still, U.S. District Judge Lynn Hughes denied granting Al Hardan a bond, arguing that there would be a serious risk that the refugee would flee if released from custody.

Al Hardan’s plan was to use cell phones to detonate transmitters. A collection of these devices were found in his apartment. Security Special Agent Herman Witliff told reporters that these devices were meant to “kill people.”

Prosecutors also allege that Al Hardan was coordinating efforts with another Iraqi refugee living in California, Aws Mohammed Younis Al-Jayab.

“The two men communicated through Facebook messenger from April 2013 to October 2014 and talked about getting weapons training and eventually sneaking into Syria to fight alongside the terrorist group,” The Blaze reports.
