On July 28th there will be rallies around the country calling for the immediate defunding of Planned Parenthood. I'll be speaking at the DC event, along with many others. Please come out if you can, if not to DC then one of the other cities. Follow the link to find out more about the rally and the other locations.

If we can't finally take funding away from this indefensible, evil, rotten, despicable organization after these latest revelations, then we never will. The time is now. Enough is enough. Hope to see you all there:

PP Apologist: Selling Baby Parts Just Like Donating Blood

"There are costs associated with donation"

    7.22.2015 | Paul Bois

Planned Parenthood apologist Dr. Anne Davis of the Physicians for Reproductive Health appeared on MSNBC's NOW with Alex Wagner Tuesday and compared the abortion conglomerate's operation of selling baby parts for profit with the simple action of donating blood.

Speaking about the Center for Medical Progress video released Tuesday that showed Planned Parenthood Medical Directors’ Council President Dr. Mary Gatter haggling over prices for fetal tissue, Wagner asked Davis if she could "confirm" to what degree prices of "$50, 75 and $100 per fetus…seem reasonable in the sort of the course of medical transport." Davis first stated that it is "helpful to understand what the money is for" before going on to compare the situation with "costs associated with [the] donation" of giving "fetal tissue" over to "science."

So, imagine you do something familiar like go to donate blood. So, you go to donate blood. You go to the center. You have a technician who places an IV. You donate the blood. The blood goes into a little bag. The bag into a little cooler. People have done blood donation, right? So, that is someone’s job who has to help with the blood donation, make sure the donated blood goes to the appropriate place, it’s transported to the hospital. So, those are jobs people have. So, the costs – there are costs associated with donation and that’s exactly what this is for. So, those are – seem like reasonable numbers that would go along with that kind of donation.
Wagner then went on to characterize the "donation" of baby parts as an actual good, calling it the "silver lining of a very difficult process for most women." Davis concurred with her and called the action "generous and altruistic."

We would bring this to the actual reality of what happens, which is always my favorite job to do as the doctor – which is that, certainly, it is the common experience of anyone whose an abortion provider and myself included that when a patient is in a situation that is very difficult, and this particularly will turn up in a case where there is a rare fetal condition and they’ve decided to end the pregnancy that in a gesture that is very generous and very altruistic, they will volunteer to donate fetal tissue to help people understand how the condition developed, if there’s any way it could have been prevented to really move science forward for that particularly situation. So it is a compassionate gesture, it is a very private moment where people volunteer to do this and certainly so my colleagues around the country and I are, you know, the recipients of that sort of – in that moment with people and it’s very genuine. So, there are certainly services where people can help women do that generous thing they would like to do at that moment.

The more these people open their mouths, the more repulsive they become.

Here's one big difference between donating blood and what PP is doing with these mutilitated children: When I donate blood I walk out of the blood center afterwards. They don't slit open my throat and drain me dry. These children are first being horribly slaughtered and that alone is monstrous and should be ILLEGAL and in fact is ILLEGAL and then they sell the parts of these chopped up children. How more monstrous does it have to get before this entire organization is not only shut down but all those in authority thrown into prison for the rest of their lives? Finding out that they are also selling some of the remains to cannibals?!

    ..

The more these people open their mouths, the more repulsive they become.
These evil b@stards should all donate every ounce of their own blood to the same cruel murderous fate they so casually inflict onto innocent defenseless babies.

They are gruesomely murdering BABIES for MONEY!!!

I'm at a loss for words...they are so evil, so wicked, so sick and twisted.

    ...

    It's even simpler than that.

If I donate blood, it's my blood. Same DNA

If you 'donate' the remains of your mutilated child, it's not your DNA.

It's a completely different person over whom you've made the choice to donate/kill.

    ..

So forget the blood donation. How is it different from organ donation?
Well, unless they're offing perfectly healthy people to harvest their organs, once again, I have voluntarily made known my wishes. And they wait until I have died normally before taking those organs.

What they don't do is strap me down, and butcher me while alive. That's what they do to the unborn. And the unborn have no say in it.

There's a difference between me donating my organs voluntarily and giving them once I've died and someone else donating my organs while I'm still alive and proceeding to donate them while I'm still alive. That latter part is what is happening to the unborn who are illegally having their lives taken from them and then being harvested for organs.

    ..

There is a very important difference. Giving blood helps saves lives. Killing a fetus - a life and then selling the remains is taking life for profit. Doctors are already coming out stating selling fetus organs and tissue is not only unethical, but completely unnecessary. And from what I've come to understand it's also ILLEGAL!

    ..

Again with the dehumanization. When I donate blood, I do so voluntarily. When these ghouls take these organs, they ask neither the fetus nor the mother. They just do it. That is a huge difference.

Are unborn babies agreeing to donate their body parts before they have their heads crushed....

    ...

Planned Barronhood has no other place to go, so their only viable defense is to dive head-first down the rabbit hole. The bright side to all this, their defense will not work. We seen this very thing with the cancer that was Acorn. Nearly the same end is in sight.

The war on the unborn as conducted by these Planned Parenthood zombies. Planned Parenthood’s defense of abortion, the money they make from abortion.. and now for baby parts! News flash, with Planned Parenthood it has always been about money. They exploit the women, the babies .. They are the butchers of innocence! We’ve seen Gosnell, Dr. Death, i.e. Jack Kevorkian, not we see these ladies, one some somewhat young, the other kind of like the Wicked Witch of the West driving her Lamborghini with a dead baby foot for a hood ornament. I hate to see her Christmas tree.

I wish they ask them about their bulk discounts… who know, buy three legs and a liver they might through in a pack of azalea seeds or a new toaster.

    ..

Except the blood you are donating is not your own (when you use the baby parts analogy). It is taking a small child bleeding it dry for profit under torture and then tossing its remaining body scrapes in the trash.

When you donate blood you make the decision to do so, it is your blood being donated, you survive the process, you may even get a cookie, and if you are even faint from it get to lay down and have more orange juice and cookies.

For the baby parts, a baby is ripped to pieces without anesthesia while the butcher is working to make sure it saves the best bits to sell.

    ..

** that in a gesture that is very generous and very altruistic, they will volunteer to donate fetal tissue to help people understand how the condition developed, **
Ummmm, correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the "condition" that killed the baby was because it was, oh, I don't know...ABORTED?

    ..

** So, the costs – there are costs associated with donations **

^^^^ And THAT, my friends, is how 'The Clinton Foundation' founders become multi-millionaires with "other people's money"

If they sell the parts to just recover the costs that they, PP, have incurred, how can they be haggling over price? Shouldn't they know their costs in advance of that conversation? I call BS on this no profit claim.

    ..

They've clearly created a financial incentive for "counselors" to "comfort" women with abortions rather than offer objective advice.

People who have worked in PP's inner circles had come forward many years ago, and leaked to the press that their "crisis pregnancy counselors" have annual abortion sales quotas. Hardly any but faith-based news outlets seem to have covered the story, for reasons I can hardly imagine

    ...

There has not been one disease or illness that has been helped or cured with fetus stem cells. Adult stem cell that are over a hundred.

When will see Planned Parenthood executives–who head a bloody billion-dollar empire supported with our public money–put on the hot seat and grilled in congressional hearings ?

Planned Parenthood’s annual budget has surpassed $1 billion.
Why the hell do they need our tax dollars?

Government Puts $114 Million in Planned Parenthood Savings Account
    WASHINGTON, March 31 2008

    Jim Sedlak:
"Taxpayer money represents 33 percent of Planned Parenthood's income"
PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- "It is absolutely incredible," said Jim Sedlak, vice president of American Life League, "but the annual report just released by Planned Parenthood Federation of America shows that $114 million of the government funds received by Planned Parenthood were not needed and only increased the abortion giant's assets."

Sedlak was referring to the 2006 -- 2007 PPFA annual report released late last week. The report shows that PPFA had a total income of $1.02 billion. Of that total, $258.7 million came from donations; $366.9 million came from fees charged customers at its clinics; and a whopping $336.7 million came from the American taxpayer.

The report also showed that PPFA recorded a profit of $114.8 million and increased its total assets to $1.12 billion. "Taxpayer money represents 33 percent of Planned Parenthood's income," continued Sedlak, "yet it is clear that it does not need all this money. In these days of financial hardship all across the country, why are American taxpayers being forced to fund a billion dollar corporation that clearly does not need the money?"

Sedlak called for the immediate cessation of all taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood and asked all concerned citizens to go to http://www.StopPlannedParenthoodTaxFunding.com and sign the petition demanding the halt of Planned Parenthood's pillaging of our taxpayer monies.

Planned Parenthood Abortion Business Makes $1 Billion Income
by Steven Ertelt - LifeNews.com Editor
    March 28, 2008[/i]

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A new annual report from Planned Parenthood shows the nation's largest abortion business has made over $1 billion in income for the first time in its history. The non-profit pro-abortion group shows the historical gain in its new annual report covering 2006-2007.

While Planned Parenthood made $972 milion in its 2005-2006 annual report, last fiscal year it brought in $1.017 billion.

On its web site posting of the annual document, Planned Parenthood says it "highlights our advancements in providing and protecting trusted health care services and medically accurate sexuality education."

Instead, the report finds Planned Parenthood doing more abortions than ever before. The report shows an increase in the number of provided abortions from 264,943 in 2005 to 289,650 in 2006.

Planned Parenthood reveals it has doubled “excess of revenue over expenses” funds from $55.7 million in 2005 to $112 million in 2006.

Of concern to pro-life groups, Planned Parenthood acknowledges the receipt of over $336 million in government grants and contracts from both state and federal governments. However, the abortion business provides no breakdown showing how much Planned Parenthood received from the federal government or specifics states.

The revelations from the annual report upset Tony Perkins, the head of the Family Research Council. "A majority of Americans oppose taxpayer funding of abortion -- however, still Planned Parenthood receives more than $300 million in taxpayer funding each year for 'family planning' projects that help bolster their abortion trade," he told LifeNews.com.

He said Planned Parenthood was not a "wise investment" of public money because of its history. "Would you invest in a company whose affiliates are complicit in sexual crimes against children?" he asked, pointing to numerous instances of its centers doing abortions on victims of statutory rape and sexual abuse.

"Would you take your hard-earned money and pile it into a company whose fundraisers "get excited" when someone wishes to target African-American babies for extinction?" he asked.

The comment refers to a recent investigative report from students at UCLA who found Planned Parenthood officials excited about receiving donations from a racist donor.

Perkins said the ultimate slap in the face to the majority of Americans who are pro-life is the fact that Planned Parenthood still receives government funds despite the fact its political action committee will spend $10 million in this year's election on pro-abortion candidates.

Planned Parenthood Pulls Names of Corporate Donors After Coca-Cola, Ford and Xerox Object

    Chelsea Scismlsea / July 23, 2015

Representatives from Coca-Cola, Ford Motor Co. and Xerox say they’ve asked Planned Parenthood to remove their names as corporate donors to the embattled organization. The move follows a Daily Signal report revealing the names of 41 companies that Planned Parenthood listed as donors. That list, which was featured on Planned Parenthood’s website, has since been removed.

This latest development comes in the wake of two undercover videos that showed Planned Parenthood executives talking about the sale of fetal body parts. Planned Parenthood is facing both federal and state investigations — and the possibility of losing taxpayer funding.

Earlier this week, The Daily Signal used information from 2nd Vote to publish the names of 41 companies listed by Planned Parenthood as contributors. Shortly after the story was published, representatives from Coca-Cola, Ford Motor Co. and Xerox contacted The Daily Signal to say they were erroneously listed and had requested that Planned Parenthood take them off its website.

The companies were cited by Planned Parenthood as employers who match charitable contributions. Planned Parenthood is A representative from Coca-Cola confirmed for The Daily Signal that the company does not contribute to Planned Parenthood, nor does it match employee contributions to the organization. When told that its named appeared on Planned Parenthood’s website, the Coca-Cola representative said, “We’ll ask them to correct the a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that is exempt from paying federal income taxes.

    information.”

Other companies voiced similar concerns about Planned Parenthood’s donor list. “We are making sure that Ford Motor Company is not listed as a Planned Parenthood contributor on their website,” a representative from Ford told The Daily Signal.

“In addition, we do not offer an employee match for charitable contributions,” the Ford representative said. It has been at least 10 years since Ford stopped matching employee gift contributions, the representative added.

Meet the 38 Companies That Donate to Planned Parenthood

    Melissa Quinn / July 21, 2015

In the wake of two videos allegedly showing Planned Parenthood officials discussing the sale of aborted fetal body parts, Republicans in Congress are working to ensure that Planned Parenthood is stripped of its federal funding.

However, it’s not only the government that fills Planned Parenthood’s coffers. According to 2nd Vote, a website and app that tracks the flow of money from consumers to political causes, more than 25 percent of Planned Parenthood’s $1.3-billion annual revenue comes from private donations, which includes corporate contributions.

2nd Vote researched the corporations and organizations to find which supported Planned Parenthood and found that more than three dozen donated to the group. Some companies donated directly, while others matched employee gifts.

Thirty-nine corporations and organizations directly contribute to the group.

Planned Parenthood has come under heavy fire following the release of videos from the Center for Medical Progress.

The first video, released last week, showed Planned Parenthood senior executive Dr. Deborah Nucatola meeting with actors portraying buyers from a “human biologics company.” The “buyers” discussed the sale of fetal body parts with Nucatola over lunch.

In the second video, released today, Dr. Mary Gatter, president of Planned Parenthood’s medical directors council, is seen negotiating the price of aborted fetal body parts.

Here are the 38 companies that have directly funded Planned Parenthood.

    1. Adobe
    2. American Cancer Society
    3. American Express
    4. AT&T
    5. Avon

    34. Tostitos
    35. Unilever
    36. United Way
    37. Verizon
    38. Wells Fargo

    http://dailysignal.com/2015/07/21/me...ed-parenthood/

This list includes "Tostitos" which is owned by Frito-Lay which is a division of PepsiCo who is also listed.

Unilever owns over 400 brands, but focuses on 14 brands with sales of over 1 billion euros - Axe/Lynx, Dove, Omo, Becel/Flora, Heartbrand ice creams, Hellmann's, Knorr, Lipton, Lux, Magnum, Rama, Rexona, Sunsilk and Surf.

Johnson & Johnson's brands include numerous household names of medications and first aid supplies. Among its well-known consumer products are the Band-Aid Brand line of bandages, Tylenol medications, Johnson's baby products, Neutrogena skin and beauty products, Clean & Clear facial wash and Acuvue contact lenses.

Energizer Holdings is an American manufacturer of batteries and personal care products, headquartered in Town and Country, Missouri.[3][4][5][6] Its most well known brands are Energizer and Eveready batteries, Schick, Wilkinson Sword, Personna and Edge shaving products, Playtex feminine hygiene and baby products, and Hawaiian Tropic and Banana Boat sunscreen products.

Levi Strauss & Co listed also owns the brand 'Dockers'

Clorox brands include its namesake bleach and cleaning products, as well as Brita, Burt's Bees, Formula 409, Glad, Hidden Valley, Kitchen Bouquet, KC Masterpiece, Soy Vay, Kingsford, Liquid-Plumr, Mistolin, Pine-Sol, Poett, Tilex, S.O.S., and Fresh Step, Scoop Away and Ever Clean cat litters.

    ...

It does bother me that several of the "donors" listed are themselves listed as 501(c)(3) nonprofits that are exempt from paying federal income taxes ( United Way, March of Dimes, Susan G. Komen, and American Cancer Society )

Third Undercover Planned Parenthood Video Must Ignite Fury in Every Citizen, Politician Jennifer Glenn - July 28, 2015

In case there were still lingering questions if Planned Parenthood, the government-supported genocide machine, should continue receiving taxpayer funding, the third in a series of undercover videos should answer that.

GHASTLY: 'How much can we get out of it?' This 3rd Planned Parenthood video is the most gruesome...

    http://twitchy.com/2015/07/28/ghastl...esome-one-yet/

The PLANNED PARENTHOOD abortion can make $800 off one abortion.

That's $500 for the abortion & $300 for selling body parts.

    From 2012 - 2013 Planned Parenthood did 327,653 abortions.

    327,653 X $800 = $2,621,224.00 from their abortions & body parts sales.

3rd Shock Video Catches Planned Parenthood Vice President Selling Body Parts of Aborted Babies

    Steven Ertelt July 28, 2015

After two shocking videos caught Planned Parenthood doctors discussing and arranging the sale of body parts of aborted babies, a third video has been released today catching a Planned Parenthood vice president negotiating the sale of aborted babies and attempting to get as much money as possible from the deal.

As LifeNews reported, the first video of undercover footage shows Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s Senior Director of Medical Services, Dr. Deborah Nucatola, describing how Planned Parenthood sells the body parts of aborted unborn children and admitting she uses partial-birth abortions to supply intact body parts.

In the second video, Planned Parenthood doctor Maru Gatter discusses the pricing of aborted baby body parts — telling the biotech company officials that the prices for such things as a baby’s liver, head or heart are negotiable. She also tells the officials that she could talk with the Planned Parenthood abortion practitioners to potentially alter the abortion procedure to kill the baby in a way that would best preserve those body parts after the unborn child is killed in the abortion.

A total of 9 states have already launched an investigation including Massachusetts, Kansas, Missouri, Arizona, Indiana, Ohio, Georgia, Texas and Louisiana and members of Congress have launched an investigation as well.

Now, the pro-life advocates behind the investigative videos have released a third video that catches Planed Parenthood doctors Katherine Sheehan and Savita Ginde discussing and arranging for the sale of aborted baby body parts.

The undercover footage catches the Vice President and Medical Director of Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains (PPRM) in Denver, Colorado, Dr. Savita Ginde. PPRM is one of the largest and wealthiest Planned Parenthood affiliates and operates abortion clinics and abortion referral centers in Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming, and Nevada.

Standing in the Planned Parenthood abortion clinic pathology laboratory, where the bodies of babies are brought after abortions, Ginde concludes that payment per organ removed from an aborted baby will be the most beneficial to Planned Parenthood: “I think a per-item thing works a little better, just because we can see how much we can get out of it.”

The sale or purchase of human fetal tissue is a federal felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison or a fine of up to $500,000 (42 U.S.C. 289g-2), though the law is riddled with loopholes that essentially allow such sales.

The second part of the new video catches Dr. Katherine Sheehan, Medical Director emerita of Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest in San Diego, who describes her affiliate’s long-time relationship with Advanced Bioscience Resources, a middleman company that has been providing aborted fetal organs since 1989.

She says: “We’ve been using them for over 10 years, really a long time, you know, just kind of renegotiated the contract. They’re doing the big government-level collections and things like that.”

The video features Holly O’Donnell, a licensed phlebotomist who unsuspectingly took a job as a “procurement technician” at the fetal tissue company and biotech start-up StemExpress in late 2012. That’s the company that acts as a middleman and purchases the body parts of aborted babies from Planned Parenthood to sell to research universities and other places.

I thought I was going to be just drawing blood, not procuring tissue from aborted fetuses,” says O’Donnell, who fainted in shock on her first day of work in a Planned Parenthood clinic when suddenly asked to dissect a freshly-aborted fetus during her on-the-job training.

For six months, O’Donnell’s job was to identify pregnant women at Planned Parenthood who met criteria for fetal tissue orders and to harvest the fetal body parts after their abortions.

O’Donnell describes the financial benefit Planned Parenthood received from StemExpress: “For whatever we could procure, they would get a certain percentage. The main nurse was always trying to make sure we got our specimens. No one else really cared, but the main nurse did because she knew that Planned Parenthood was getting compensated.”

In the video, O’Donnell describes her work and the profit motive behind Planned Parenthood’s sale of aborted babies.

David Daleiden, Project Lead for The Center for Medical Progress, which has released also three videos, told LifeNews.com, “Planned Parenthood’s sale of aborted baby parts is an offensive and horrifying reality that is widespread enough for many people to be available to give first-person testimony about it.”

He added: “CMP’s investigative journalism work will continue to surface more compelling eyewitness accounts and primary source evidence of Planned Parenthood’s trafficking and selling baby parts for profit. There should be an immediate moratorium on Planned Parenthood’s taxpayer funding while Congress and the states determine the full extent of the organization’s lawbreaking.”

"If you haven't heard, apparently some guy killed a lion in Africa.

Why should you have heard about this?

    You shouldn't have.

    Why is it news?

    It isn't.

Why does it deserve the complete attention of the entire nation for two days?

    It doesn't.

So why has it gotten that kind of attention?

Because people are confused and ridiculous in this culture.

But for the longer answer to that question, read my latest piece here.

And, look, I like lions well enough. I wouldn't invite one over for dinner, probably, but I'm cool with them. Still, a dead lion just simply isn't headline news. A dead lion should not be the most talked about thing in the world. ESPECIALLY on a day when another Planned Parenthood video was released, showing the literal dissection of human children.

But what better illustration of our culture than this? Some dentist goes to Africa and accidentally kills an off-limits lion, and this becomes a national outrage, meanwhile, on the same day, video of the butchery and sale of children goes completely ignored.

Now this guy's life is basically ruined, he's forced into hiding, and millions of people are fantasizing openly about his demise. It's the same old thing. The thing we've seen a million times before, where liberals take all of their pent up rage and righteous indignation -- all of the moral outrage they've been storing up while finding new ways to justify the sickest and most perverse evils this world has ever seen -- and unleash it all on some sad chump who, by chance, happens to win the Villain Du Jour lottery.

Rather than simply point out the absurd dichotomy, I want to try and explain it. It seems like a mystery at first glance. It's hard to understand why liberals care more about dead lions than dead people, but if we look deeper, I think it all starts to make sense...."

    ~Matt Walsh

I started noticing “Cecil the Lion” trending on Facebook and Twitter at some point yesterday afternoon. By the evening, it was the most popular topic on social media, and stories about the lion were popping up on all of the national news sites.

Before I took the time to investigate, I tried to imagine if there could be any valid reason for a wild cat to become the biggest news item in the world. On a day when another undercover video revealed Planned Parenthood dismembering murdered children for profit, I strained to think if there might be some justification for ignoring the harvesting of human beings in favor of obsessing over a large feline in Africa.

I thought maybe the lion had cured cancer, or sprouted wings and flown into space, or stood on its hind legs and recited the Gettysburg Address. Surely, these developments would vindicate the disproportionate amount of attention it was receiving. But I quickly found out that the lion, from Zimbabwe, had done no such thing. Apparently, all it did was die.

Of course, lots of people died yesterday too, especially in Zimbabwe. Across the planet, human travesties continued to unfold – Christians were slaughtered in the Middle East, political prisoners were tortured and executed in North Korea and Iran, Americans fell prey to crime and violence spilling over our southern border, and about 30,000 human children were butchered in abortion clinics, some of which were then dissected and sold on the black market – but this one unfortunate beast in a forest 9,000 miles away trumped all of these. Human victims would have to wait yet another day to be noticed by our culture. Their plight just couldn’t compete with a cute, fuzzy mammal.
    .
Poor Cecil, as I’m sure you heard, was ”murdered” by an American dentist named Walter Palmer. The dentist traveled there and paid some $55,000 for the privilege to hunt and kill the king of the jungle. It turns out that the hunt might not have been legal. He says he thought he was acting within the law, and that he didn’t know Cecil was a beloved animal celebrity in Africa. His pleads of ignorance may or may not be true, but they are called into question by the fact that he’s been convicted of poaching before.

This was all enough to earn him the wrath of progressive America, but none of these crimes compare to the fact that he is, evidently, a Republican.

We know these details about his life, and about the sexual harassment claim made against him in 2009, because the media has feverishly poured through his record and heaped more scrutiny upon him than they have on every Democrat politician in the last 40 years combined. Meanwhile, the internet lynch mob predictably leaped into action. Palmer’s personal address was released, death threats were issued, his business was attacked and shutdown, he was forced into hiding, and scores of drooling trolls flocked to Twitter to fantasize about all of the creative and violent things they’d love to do to him:

Refusing to be upstaged in this contest for the title of Most Exorbitant Reaction, PETA proclaimed that Palmer ought to be “extradited and hung.” A bunch of famous people joined the dog pile, utilizing their platforms to declare Palmer “disgusting,” a “murderer,” and “Satan.” Other celebrities have asked that his citizenship be permanently revoked. Sharon Osbourne labeled Palmer a “killer” and said she hopes he loses his house and his business. According to Sharon, even his wife and children deserve to be homeless. Jimmy Kimmel, late night host on ABC, took time out of his comedy show to deliver a tearful rant, calling the hunter an “a-hole” and a “jackal.”

All of this, over a lion.

It bears repeating that this happened on the same day that a video was released showing lab technicians dissecting the body parts of murdered humans while discussing how much money they could get for each “item.” This footage was completely ignored. Our culture let out a massive, collective yawn, instead choosing to wail over the fate of some random hairy beast in southern Africa.

The whole thing transcends mere absurdity. It is beyond ridiculous. Far past anything that could be called simply exaggerated or irrational. The swarms of petty nitwits in our culture have finally outdone themselves. What we are witnessing is something worse than an Idiocracy; it is total moral chaos.

I’m not defending Walter Palmer, by the way. I don’t have any problem with hunters — and in most cases, African big game hunters help both the local economies in these areas, and the ongoing effort to preserve endangered species — but it seems that Palmer broke the law and killed a lion that was financially valuable to the locals. That was bad. He shouldn’t have done that. If the story we’re hearing is accurate (and there’s always a significant chance that it isn’t accurate, or at least isn’t complete) then Palmer was in the wrong.

Still, the reaction is so inordinate and overwrought that I have to laugh. I have nothing against Cecil, I’m sure he was a swell chap, but no dead animal could ever justify this excessive and callous backlash from such a frantic mob of vindictive, retaliatory buffoons. Even ancient pagan tribes that literally worshiped animals probably exercised more restraint when a heretic killed one of their animal deities.
    .
It’s fine if you are opposed to what Palmer did, but that doesn’t excuse you from the duty to be sane and rational. It’s a lion, after all. An animal. If you want to be really agitated by a doctor who kills living things, you should probably be less focused on this dentist and a little more focused on abortionists like LeRoy Carhart, who murder actual people. Carhart has killed both unborn and born humans, and likes to do the former by ripping the child apart while it’s still alive. Maybe the media should be camping out in front of his house instead of Palmer’s. Maybe we should be asking why doctors are allowed to execute babies, not why dentists are allowed to hunt African game.

This dichotomy has become, perhaps, the most bewildering and confusing thing about our culture. Progressives actively celebrate the most depraved evils, and then make super villains out of folks who hunt, or fly Confederate flags, or refuse to bake gay wedding cakes. It’s like they’re standing on a street corner simultaneously applauding a thug as he murders a man for his wallet, and calling for a summary execution of a pedestrian who forgot to use the crosswalk. This isn’t just a matter of misplaced priorities; this is unadulterated lunacy.

Yes, I realize that liberal hypocrites aren’t the only ones upset about the lion. Some people are animal lovers, but they put that love for animals in perspective. They might cry for the cat, but they cry more for humans who are murdered, persecuted, or exploited. Compassionate souls love animals deeply because they possess a profound respect for all life. In the mode of St. Francis of Assisi, their mercy for animals stems from their love of God. I take no issue at all with the people in this category, obviously. I love animals myself.

But the fact remains that many in our society are descending like a pack of frenzied hyenas upon a man who shot a lion, yet feel no anger when confronted with the murder of children. And abortion isn’t the only evil accepted or celebrated by progressivism. We are living in a culture of death where cruelty and brutality reign supreme. The reaction to this “scandal” only further reveals and illuminates that cruelty. We think nothing of trying to destroy a man, ruin his life, and wish for his painful demise, without knowing anything else about him. We are so numb, so indifferent, that we will rip a stranger to pieces, cannibalize him publicly, tear him down until there is nothing left, and then sleep like babies at night.

    Yet, the lion.

Kill the children if you want. Destroy the dentist just for fun. Demean and degrade anyone who acts or thinks differently, if for no other reason than there’s not much else to do. But a dead lion — now there’s a victim we should mourn.

It seems baffling. It would all make sense if our culture showed no concern for the plight of human beings, and also displayed a similar wanton disregard for animals and trees. Then we would just be nihilists and Darwinists. Human life has no objective value, we would reason, therefore no life has any objective value. We would be naked and honest barbarians.

But our barbarism is clothed and hidden beneath this thin veneer of an arbitrary concern for random animals and plant life. And not even every animal. That’s why most of the people panicking over “Cecil” will still order the hamburger when they go to Applebee’s, still use insecticide to ruthlessly poison innocent roaches and ants, and still drink milk extracted from enslaved cows.

They give lions and elephants a certain elevated status, but can’t explain why. They might insist that these creatures are special because they’re “endangered,” but they can’t tell you why it matters that they’re endangered. If the world didn’t need the baby who’s now being dissected in a petri dish in some research facility, why did it need Cecil the lion? What was he doing that was so special? How was he contributing to the advancement of civilization? He was peeing in the grass, licking his butt, and eating zebras. Big deal. That baby could have grown up and become an inventor, a philanthropist, an artist, a lover, a thinker, a father, a mother, a pioneer. If that potential wasn’t enough to let the child off the hook, why do we make an exception for the beast? Are we grading on a curve here?

These questions are rhetorical. I already know the answer. I know why progressives cry for dead lions and not dead babies: it’s called Natural Law.

Natural Law holds that all people possess a conscience, therefore all people innately recognize the distinction between good and evil. We are naturally repulsed by evil and attracted to goodness. This is why every civilization has outlawed sins like murder and theft, and hailed virtues like charity and mercy. Of course, many civilizations have redefined murder so as to permit a convenient form of it, but still no society has ever come out and defended murder in principle.

No society can ever be explicitly nihilist. As in, no society can outwardly live by the philosophy that everything is meaningless and nothing matters. Individuals can try it, but like Nietzsche they’ll end up in a mental institution, babbling to themselves while eating their own excrement. Societies, though, have to at least pretend they believe in doing the right thing. A society must convince itself it hates evil and loves goodness. Even the Nazis rationalized that they were serving the greater good of mankind.

So when our culture decides to sit back and tolerate, or even revere and commend, perverse evils like abortion, pornography, the breakdown of the family, the persecution of Christians, etc., it begins to accumulate a kind of Outrage Reservoir. Deep down, we must feel like we oppose evil. We can’t laud the most insidious atrocities of our time, and then look in the mirror and face ourselves honestly. The righteous anger that should be poured out in response to these true horrors is bottled and contained, clogging up our souls like constipated bowels.

We search desperately for an acceptable target for our surplus of withheld scorn, and when we locate it, we unload like we just chugged a gallon of laxative. Suddenly, some guy who killed a lion in Zimbabwe receives all of the compiled disdain that should have been discharged on the abortionists and the pornographers and the persecutors. Our pent up rage and anger mixes with guilt and self-loathing, and together it creates this concentrated bile that drowns and destroys whatever tragic chump they throw before us to be devoured. It’s nothing personal against him, really. Walter Palmer is a sacrificial lamb. A punching bag, strung up and dangled in front of progressive America as a way for them to release their moral frustrations. He’s an object. A receptacle for their misdirected vengeance. It’s like self-flagellation, only minus the self. And next week they’ll be flagellating some other patsy, and nobody will even remember or care about poor old Walter Palmer.

A year from now, someone will do a follow up story about that villainous dentist from long ago, and we’ll all think, “Oh yeah, whatever happened to that guy?” Then we’ll see that he lost his business, his family, and his dignity, and now lives as a sad shell of a forgotten man. “Serves him right for doing whatever he did,” we’ll say proudly, as we get back to feasting upon the newest Scoundrel Du Jour. It’s a never ending pattern, played out over and over again by a progressive culture filled with craven wimps, always compensating for their moral failings by tearing down false Satans, too afraid to do battle with the real one.

You might wonder how progressives choose their new devils and new gods. Why Walter Palmer? Why Cecil the Lion? Well, there’s a randomness to it, of course. And there are always the superfluous reasons, like the fact that most of the members of the lynch mob probably have fond memories of “The Lion King.” But I think, more fundamentally, progressives choose to care about lions because lions are an abstraction. They care about the idea of lions.

Real lions are all the way in Africa, or else contained in zoos. You can go and see them, or watch them on TV, or read about them, but crucially, lions will never ask anything from us. Our affection for them presents no challenges. We don’t have to accommodate them. I can say I love lions, but this love will never require me to do anything. Lions will never inconvenience me. They’ll never get in my way. I can defend the lives of lions by angrily Tweeting about hunters, and then I can go on my way, live however I want, and never be asked to change my lifestyle for their sake.

People, on the other hand, are real. They are here. They impose themselves on our lives. They burden us. They surround us. To care about people is hard. It requires us to live, act, think, and speak differently. We have to accommodate people. We have to tolerate people. We have to do things for people, especially the most vulnerable and helpless people. It’s no coincidence that progressivism advocates abortion to deal with children, and euthanasia to handle the old and the infirm. If it is going to pretend to love human beings at all, it must first get rid of the most burdensome types.

It can be hard to love people. And if you say you love people, life is going to constantly demand that you prove it. If you say you love people, you certainly can’t kill your own child, and you can’t support the killing of children, and even if you don’t have kids, you have to be patient and kind with other people’s kids, and other people generally. This is very different from loving lions. You can love lions passively, in the abstract; people must be loved actively, in reality.

If ever some deranged terrorist transported thousand of lions into our neighborhoods, forcing us to actually love lions in some real and present sense, I can guarantee the progressive affection for the species would vanish rapidly.

This is the progressive modus operandi. Progressivism loves everything that can be loved lazily or indulgently, and nothing that must be loved sacrificially and earnestly. It loves nothing that requires any action on its part.

Put more simply, it loves nothing.

But it will keep pretending anyway.
