Yet Another "Mother of the Year" shut down ....

Mom accused of forcing cocaine, beer on kids

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Associated Press / The Huffington Post) -- A Connecticut mother has pleaded guilty to charges that she forced her 4-year-old son to drink beer and gave her 10-month-old daughter beer and cocaine.

Juliette Dunn, 29, of Bridgeport, was charged after a witness waved down police and complained about a woman giving beer to children at a playground.

Dunn's son was reportedly seen drinking from a 40-ounce bottle of Steel Reserve. Her daughter's bottle was said to be filled with alcohol.

A companion, 33-year-old Lisa Jefferson, pleaded guilty to the same charges.

The children were turned over to the Department of Children and Families after 29-year-old Dunn's arrest. Custody hasn't been decided.

It's unknown if either woman has a lawyer.

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- A Connecticut mother is charged with forcing her 4-year-old son to drink beer and giving beer and cocaine to her 10-month-old daughter.

The Connecticut Post reports that 29-year-old Juliette Dunn was arrested on June 28 after a neighbor flagged down police and told them the woman was feeding beer to her children at the Success Village playground in Bridgeport.

Dunn and a 33-year-old companion, Lisa Jefferson, were arrested and charged with assault and risk of injury to a minor.

Witnesses told police that Dunn gave a 40-ounce bottle of beer to the boy and ordered him to chug it down. Both children tested positive for alcohol at a local hospital and the 10-month old tested positive for cocaine.

Dunn and Jefferson are both being held in lieu of $100,000 bonds.

Utah mom pleads guilty in virginity sale case
By JOSH LOFTIN - Associated Press | AP – 14 mins ago

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Utah woman accused of trying to sell her 13-year-old daughter's virginity pleaded guilty Monday to two sexual exploitation charges for having the girl model in her underwear for men.

The 33-year-old woman had also faced two first-degree felony counts of aggravated sex abuse of a child — and up to life in prison — but prosecutors agreed to drop those charges in exchange for her plea.

She now faces up to 30 years in prison at sentencing Dec. 5.

Authorities said the woman offered her daughter's virginity to a man in April in exchange for $10,000. Initially, the girl agreed to the arrangement and modeled twice in a bra and underwear for the man. Police said the girl then changed her mind.

Her mother also tried to sell sexually explicit pictures of the girl to another man.

The woman's boyfriend found text messages about the sale of the girl's virginity on the woman's cellphone. He turned them over to police.

She was arrested in May. Prosecutors said the men involved have not been charged.

The woman did not make a statement in court Monday and her defense attorney refused to comment after the hearing.

The Associated Press isn't naming the mother to avoid identifying her daughter.

Thank God for the mother's boyfriend, he could have saved a child's life. Death sentence for the mother.

    ...

This is sad to hear someone would exploit her child for money. The money goes away then your child is hurt forever.

    ...

There is NO WAY that that woman should ever have any type of custody of that daughter, EVER!!!! Here's hoping that's in the plea too.

Investigation underway into death of baby
Posted: Oct 24, 2011 3:02 PM CDT By Cheryl Mercedes

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The death of a one-year-old baby has opened several cases of apparent child neglect in North Baton Rouge. Police believe the alleged abuse happened at a house on Erie Street. Linda Brown and her neighbors woke up Sunday to a shocking scene at the house. Brown says police were knocking on her door at 6 a.m. asking for a favor. "They had three other kids in there and they asked if I could watch them because they had something going on across the street," Brown said.

Baton Rouge Police Corporal Ljean Mckneely says when officers went into the house they found a dead baby covered in bruises. Detectives say the child's mother waited hours before she called for help. "The mother of the child found out the child was having some type of difficulty breathing around 3 a.m. and we didn't get a call until 6 a.m.," Cpl. Mckneely said.

Officers say they also found three other young children at the house who appeared to have been neglected. "Two of the small children around the age of one, they had a diaper rash so bad where it was bleeding," Mckneely said.

Furthermore, Mckneely says when officers scanned the house for evidence they found electronics that had been reported stolen and a lot of money.

Kierra Golman, Randy Parker and Brandon Tate were arrested. Parker has served time for attempted second degree murder and assault. He was also arrested last week on a burglary charge. Golman and Tate had been previously booked on drug charges.

Brown says she knew the three pretty well, but had no idea what was going on behind closed doors. "I'm shocked about the whole thing. I don't know what to say. I loved those little kids. I really did," Brown said.

Golman, Parker and Tate are charged with possessing stolen things. Additional charges are pending autopsy results. The three children are in state protective custody.

Parents of missing Washington boy had been cited
By GENE JOHNSON and MANUEL VALDES - Associated Press | AP – 1 hr 57 mins ago

BELLEVUE, Wash. (AP) — Police in Washington state spent a second day Monday searching for a toddler whose mother said he vanished from an unlocked car that ran out of gas, as court documents revealed that the boy's parents had previously been cited for leaving him unattended in a vehicle and his mother had obtained a restraining order against his father last year.

The mother, Julia Biryukova, told investigators she left 2-year-old Sky Metalwala alone Sunday as she and her 4-year-old older daughter walked a mile to a gas station, Bellevue police said. When she came back an hour later, the boy was gone, she said. Investigators searched a 20-block area and even went door to door but found no sign of him. The FBI, King County Sheriff's Office and a King County helicopter were enlisted to help.

The Bellevue Police Department said both parents were cooperating, and Biryukova had consented to have her vehicle and home in nearby Redmond searched. "We're looking at it from all angles, at this point," said Bellevue Police Maj. Mike Johnson. "Missing person, abduction, foul play has not been ruled out."

In December 2009, officers in Redmond cited Biryukova and her husband, Solomon Metalwala, for reckless endangerment after they acknowledged leaving Sky, then 3 months old, in their Cadillac sport-utility vehicle in a Target parking lot on a 27-degree day. A shopper who heard the baby crying called police, and a responding officer reported that the car felt cold. Paged inside the store, the couple said they had left the baby in the car for about 20 minutes because they didn't want to wake him up.

The case was dismissed early this year after the pair agreed to a year of probation, 40 hours of community service and a 10-week parenting class, said Ian Goodhew, a spokesman for the King County Prosecutor's Office.

The couple had been together for 14 years, married since 2003 and separated in March 2010, court records show. In June 2010, the same month Metalwala filed for divorce, Biryukova, 30, filed for a protection order on behalf of herself and their two children.

She said Metalwala, 36, had a severe anger problem, was verbally abusive and that he had beat her for the first time on Christmas Day, just weeks after the incident at the Target parking lot. The reason was that she had allowed Sky to sleep later than expected, she said. "He became furious like I have never seen him before, he grabbed me by my hair (in front of our 3½ year old daughter), dragged me into our hallway, threw me down on the floor and then threw me against a decorative column we have in the entrance of our home," Biryukova wrote. "He continued to assault me with his feet — by kicking me and then he took out his car keys and continued to scratch me in any area he could."

The abuse escalated after that, with Solomon telling her to go live on the street and work as a prostitute, she said. "The most, most recent have been his threats to kill me if I say anything against him or if in any way I proceed with action of seeking custody of our two small children," Biryukova added. "I live in constant fear for my life and my children's life. Please investigate and help me!"

He responded that she had mental health issues and that he feared for the safety of the children when they were in her care.

A man who answered the phone at King Street Kafe and Market, a shop Metalwala owns in Seattle's Pioneer Square neighborhood, referred calls to a Leslie Clay Terry III, a lawyer who represented the couple in the reckless endangerment case. Terry did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

Other possible phone numbers for Metalwala could not immediately be verified.

Sky Metalwala Missing: Washington Boy's Dad Says Mom's Story Doesn't Add Up
GENE JOHNSON, PHUONG LE and MANUEL VALDES 11/ 7/11 09:53 PM ET Associated Press

BELLEVUE, Wash. — Police searching for a 2-year-old Washington state boy focused their efforts Monday around the home of his mother, who reportedly told investigators she last saw him in her stalled car on a city street as she walked away for an hour to get gas.
It wouldn't be the first time Sky Metalwala had been left alone in a car. When he was just 3 months old, court records revealed, his parents left him in their sport utility vehicle in a Target parking lot for 55 minutes on a 27-degree day. They only came out of the store to get him after police arrived and asked for the vehicle's owner to be paged.

The toddler's disappearance Sunday in Bellevue, a city of 122,000 across Lake Washington from Seattle, came at the height of a custody fight between his parents, Julia Biryukova and Solomon Metalwala. They separated in March 2010 amid back-and-forth protective orders and allegations of abuse and psychiatric problems.

Last December, a social worker determined that there was a "preponderance of evidence" that Metalwala had struck his daughter hard enough to cause bruising, court records show. The social worker also said Sky had troubling bruises, but because the boy could not talk, it wasn't clear where he got them. However the attorney for Metalwala, Leslie Clay Terry III, said Monday that case worker had only interviewed the mother and that Child Protective Services later conducted an investigation that cleared Metalwala. "He was exonerated completely," Terry said.

Last week, at a mandatory mediation session, a tentative agreement was hammered out that would allow Metalwala to have some visitation with Sky and his older sister, his lawyer said.

Biryukova reported that her car ran out of gas in Bellevue on Sunday morning, police said. She said she left Sky in the unlocked vehicle and walked with her daughter, who is 4, about a mile to a gas station. When she returned to the car, Sky wasn't there, she said. Investigators searched a 20-block area and even went door to door but found no sign of him. There was no gas can at the car, police said.

The Bellevue Police Department said both parents were cooperating, and Biryukova had consented to have her vehicle and home in nearby Redmond searched. The older child has been placed in protective custody. "We're looking at it from all angles, at this point," said Bellevue Police Maj. Mike Johnson. "Missing person, abduction, foul play has not been ruled out."

Biryukova did not immediately return a call seeking comment. Her younger brother, Stanley Biryukov, said Julia was crying frantically when she called him Sunday afternoon and explained what had happened. "I'm hoping they'll find the child," he said.

Metalwala spoke with reporters at the office of his lawyer, Terry. They said his estranged wife's story was bizarre: Why didn't she call for help, knock on a nearby door, or take the child with her? "I don't understand why she would leave a little baby in the car," Metalwala said. "The whole story is puzzling."

In December 2009, Redmond police cited both parents for reckless endangerment at the Target parking lot. A shopper who heard the baby crying in the SUV called police, and a responding officer reported that the car felt cold. Paged inside the store, the couple said they had left the baby in the car for 15 to 20 minutes because they didn't want to wake him up. Surveillance video of the parking lot later proved it had actually been 55 minutes. The case was dismissed early this year after the pair completed a year of probation, 40 hours of community service and a 10-week parenting class.

The couple had been together for 14 years. He was 21 and she was a high school sophomore when they began dating, according to one of her court declarations. In another declaration, her mother, Nadia Biryukova, wrote that they married in 2003 in her kitchen just before he was to be deported to Pakistan.

In court documents filed in connection with their divorce, Julia Biryukova said their relationship deteriorated in 2008 after they bought an expensive home in Kirkland and couldn't keep up with the payments on that property and a condominium they also owned.

The couple separated in March 2010, court records show. "He became furious like I have never seen him before, he grabbed me by my hair (in front of our 3 1/2 year old daughter), dragged me into our hallway, threw me down on the floor and then threw me against a decorative column we have in the entrance of our home," Biryukova wrote. "He continued to assault me with his feet – by kicking me and then he took out his car keys and continued to scratch me in any area he could."

He responded that she had mental health problems and was involuntarily committed to a mental clinic in 2010. "The accusations against him were totally false," his lawyer said.

Earlier this year a social worker with state Child Protective Services reported that a doctor found her to be in good mental health and an appropriate caregiver for the children. One psychologist who evaluated Biryukova wrote in July 2010 that though she was dealing with "a severe form of obsessive compulsive disorder, I do not believe that interferes with her ability to be a compassionate, effective parent to her children."

CPS received six referrals about the family from late 2009 to late 2010, state officials reported in court documents.

No cell phone or service IF she had a cell phone? No homes or stores or businesses in that area? Leaving a 2 yr old in a car locked or unlocked is INSANE...j*ust isn't done, especially on the side of a road. The part about BOTH parents leaving him in the car for nearly an hour in 27 degree temps is disgusting enough. In the beginnig of the article is states she walked for "gas" for nearly an hour. Im not in great physical condition but unless you have severe health issues it shouldn't take an hour to walk a mile even with a 4 yr old with you. Figure this is a serious case where one of the parents disposed of the baby to get back at the other parent. For all we know Daddy followed Mom and took the baby out of the car and now has him hidden somewhere. Then again Mommy might possibly have had him "abducted" to keep Daddy from getting him in a custody case. None of the scenario's are good. Hopefully a "good samaritan" saw the child alone in the car, and took the child to a hospital or police station. As he was abandoned (technical*ly being left alone in a car by himself with NO ONE else with him) the state could have him now.

    ....

WHY WHY WHY leave the baby and take the daughter with you? WHY are these parents so uncaring??*? Give your child to someone that wants to be a parent, someone that can love them, protect them and raise them right*!!

    ...

If that were to happen here in TEXAS the CPS agency would have removed them childern as soon as the first incident was reported..*.! why was the childern left in a home where the mother and the father were reporting abuse and stating the needed help from a physic?? washington CPS should be held accountabl*e for this act. That poor baby had already been left alone alone in freezing weather once, hello it is bound to happen again.

    ...

CPS in all states is a seriously flawed system in desperate need of revamping and honestly should be held liable for cases in which their failed investigat*ions make way for tragedy. As for the mom, I believe she may be hiding the child and if so for fear of harm from the dad. When a woman is abused and then successful*ly labeled mentally unstable by the works of the abuser she becomes desperate and this may be the only way she could've saved her child from harm. Both parents are questionab*ly unfit to raise their children without further harm to them, unfortunat*ely there are not many guaranteed options (as the foster care system is also a joke at times). Sad state of our times and citizens..*.simply heart breaking.

    ...

Several posters are commenting that maybe she was "hiding" the child due to the custody issue ... in that case... why take one and lave the other ? WHY leave a two year old in an unlocked car on the side of a busy road? Logic would have you take both children with you, or stay in place with both children and wait for help.

Missing Toddler Sky Metalawa: Case Keeps Getting Weirder
By Carol Bengle Gilbert – Tue, Nov 8, 2011

Toddler Sky Metalawa was reported missing Sunday morning in Bellevue, Wash., by his mother Julie Biryukova. She claimed to have left the 2-year-old alone in the car, according to KREM.com, after it ran out of gas, taking her 4-year-old daughter with her to the gas station. She was gone about an hour and claims the little boy was missing when she returned to the car. From there, the story just keeps getting weirder.

Here are some key details from the story so far:

    * Once at the gas station, Biryukova called a friend to come get her, according to an employee there. Biryukova apparently began walking back to the car and the friend picked her up en route. When they arrived back at the car, Sky wasn't there.

    * Biryukova seems to not have bought gas once she arrived at the gas station. Police said there was no gas can at the car when they arrived. Police were able to start the car, though they cautioned that this sometimes happens when a car has not run for a while.

    * Police said one door of the car was unlocked when they arrived and there was no sign of forced entry.

    * Both Biryukova and Sky's father Solomon Metalawa were arrested in Dec. 2009 for leaving Sky alone in a vehicle for almost an hour in a Target store parking lot. The reckless endangerment charges were dismissed on condition the parents serve probation, do community service and attend parenting classes.

    * The parents had just reached an agreement Tuesday in a custody dispute involving both children, and Biryukova was seeking to revisit it on the grounds that she allegedly agreed to it under pressure.

    * Solomon Metalawa claims Biryukova suffers from mental illness and was involuntarily committed to a mental health clinic in 2010, according to Associated Press.

    * Solomon Metalawa's polygraph Monday was inconclusive. His lawyer says that's because he was "too tired" when he took it and he will take another today.

    * Biryukova has previously charged Solomon with domestic violence. She said he beat her for letting then 4-month-old Sky oversleep in June 2010, the Daily Mail reported. In Dec. 2010, a social worker found "by a preponderance of the evidence" that Solomon Metalawa hit his daughter hard enough to bruise her. The social worker also noted bruises on Sky who was not old enough to talk at the time.

    * The couple purportedly married when Solomon Metalawa was about to be deported, the Daily Mail said.

The missing toddler, Sky Metalawa, is half Asian-Indian and half Caucasian, 2-foot-2-inches tall and weighs 39 pounds. He has brown eyes, and dark hair worn in a buzz cut. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and black and aqua blue sweatpants and white socks.

I heard on the news here two 18 year old twin girls left two three year olds and a year and a half old home alone. The house caught on fire and all three died. I don't see how anyone could leave little ones like that alone and not worry about them at all. Someone heard them screaming and tried to save them but he couldn't get to them. I bet he'll never forget the sound of them screaming while the moms could care less about leaving them alone. They talked to the grandma of the kids and she didn't sound overly concerned either. Poor babies.

I heard about that one on the radio ... the house caught fire because they left the oven on - with the door open to warm the house. Left the kids while they went shopping. What "shopping" do you do at 2 am ? The problem is in part cultural - babies having babies... they had to get pregnant at 14, be "mothers" at 15, in order to have three year olds at the age of 18. Sad that they had no seeming concern for their own kids.
