Confederate Flag Controversy: Will Obama Resign Because His Family Owned Slaves?

President descended from slave owners, according to researchers

    June 25, 2015

If liberals want to ban the Confederate flag due to its historical link to slavery, shouldn’t they also demand President Obama’s resignation because his family owned slaves?

Obama’s great-great-great-great grandfather, George Washington Overall, owned two slaves who were recorded in the 1850 census in Nelson County, Ky., the Baltimore Sun reported in 2007, and Obama’s great-great-great-great-great-grandmother, Mary Duvall, also owned slaves.

Obama’s campaign team in 2008 did not dispute the information.

“While a relative owned slaves, another fought for the Union in the Civil War,” Obama’s campaign spokesman Bill Burton said. “And it is a true measure of progress that the descendant of a slave owner would come to marry a student from Kenya and produce a son who would grow up to be a candidate for president of the United States.”

Leftists are currently purging the Confederate flag because its association with slavery, but given that “logic,” shouldn’t they also be calling for Obama’s resignation since he too has a historical link to slavery?

Obama should resign, but not because of his ancestors: he needs to resign for his support for the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), both of which are secretive, multinational “trade” deals written by transnational interests that will prevent millions of Americans from securing good jobs.

“Trade Promotion Authority (TPA), as the measure is called, means that Congress will only get to vote up or down on the treaties in question once they are finalized by the White House, without the ability to offer amendments,” RT reported, meaning that Obama now has dictatorial powers.

And, not surprising, the American public was too busy debating an irrelevant issue, the Confederate flag, to notice the deindustrialization of America by executive fiat.

“It was not desirable that the proles [the clueless public] should have strong political feelings,” Orwell wrote in 1984 from the establishment’s perspective. “All that was required of them was a primitive patriotism which could be appealed to whenever it was necessary to make them accept longer working-hours or shorter rations, and even when they became discontented, as they sometimes did, their discontent led nowhere, because being without general ideas, they could only focus in on petty specific grievances.”

“The larger evils invariably escaped their notice.”

‘Fast track’ trade measure sought by Obama wins final approval in Senate
    Published June 24, 2015

A key plank of President Obama’s trade agenda won final approval in the U.S. Senate on Wednesday, capping a dramatic few weeks that saw the legislation nearly collapse amid Democratic infighting.

The Senate voted 60-38 for a bill giving Obama so-called “fast track” authority to negotiate trade deals. The bill, already approved by the House, now goes to Obama’s desk.

The vote marks a remarkable turnaround for an initiative that House Democrats nearly killed earlier this month.

Though both parties have been divided on the issue, it was particularly problematic in the Democratic caucus – in the end, Obama’s biggest allies were Republican congressional leaders.

Opening Senate debate on Wednesday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., a frequent Obama antagonist, credited the president and Democrats who joined the GOP on the bipartisan measure.

"We were really pleased to see President Obama pursue an idea we've long believed in," McConnell said. "We thank him for his efforts to help us pass a bill to advance it."

The “fast track" authority would let Obama negotiate deals that Congress can ratify or reject, but not change.

He wants that power to advance the so-called Trans-Pacific Partnership with Japan, Mexico, Canada and several other countries.

Unions and most congressional Democrats say free-trade deals cost U.S. jobs and reward countries that pollute and mistreat workers. But Obama and most Republican leaders say U.S. products must reach broader markets.

The Senate later also passed as bill extending a job retraining program for workers displaced by international trade. That program would require House approval, too.

Some anti-trade groups say they will strongly oppose the Pacific pact. Others seem more resigned to the likelihood of new U.S. trade agreements in Obama's final months in office.

    Regarding the Confederate Flag....
    written by Tommy Jordan:

"I posted this as a comment on someone's wall earlier, and the more I thought about it, this expresses my feelings on the confederate flag much better than any ranting I could do.

The issue isn't what the flag stands for. NONE of the people spouting off "fact" on the matter have any ground to stand on. They can't decide for me or for anyone else, no more than they can decide the meaning of the American flag for me.

The issue is the freedom to decide what the flag stands for in my own eyes and to remember it and/or choose to honor it if I see it.

I'll give a modern example: The American Flag. We fly that in every embassy in the world, every military base, and every government building here in the US almost. If an Afghani native walks past a US military FOB and sees the US Flag flying, he might smile to himself, maybe even salute it, maybe inside he's thankful for the help his people have received in their liberation from oppression. Surely that's a valid scenario for SOME in that situation, wouldn't you agree?

The same flag, in the same place, has an entirely different meaning to another local Afghani that might walk by.. he feels occupied in his own land, he hates the Americans. He wished we'd leave his people and his culture alone. He lost a relative, son, brother, or close friend in a skirmish where someone died and we fired the shots that caused it, even though it was accidental.
Can you see how it's almost 100% guaranteed that some people see our flag that way?

People see a flag and it stands for something to THEM. There is no "this is what this flag means to you" placard attached to every flagpole in the world, and even if there were, it wouldn't change a person's opinion on their personal view of it.

To some of you, the confederate flag might be a reminder of slavery. Ok fair enough. However, none of you were slaves. None of your parents were slaves. None of your grandparents were slaves. Basically no one currently alive can even tell you what anyone that WAS alive thought of that flag when it flew in battle. So, the "stigma" you have attached to it is at the very best, a third-hand remembrance of what someone else said to you, either in a history book, a documentary of the civil war, or in general discussion.

So consider it from another perspective; people like me. I'm not racist. I'm not gender-biased. I'm not biased against sexual preference. Anyone that knows me at all, knows that's 100% true. I have close friends across almost all spectrums of the human condition, and I'm very blessed too!

I'm not a slave owner, nor was I ever chained up or forced to work as a slave. Neither were my parents, or my grandparents. None of us ever owned other people, or subjugated other people, regardless of race, to ourselves. I don't look at the confederate flag and think of "the good ol' days when we all had a few n____ around to do chores." (pardon the use of the derogatory word, but it seems in context to the kind of person people think appreciate the flag).

I look up at the confederate flag and I see the South. (I meant that with a capital S.) It's a way of life.

I'm a "southern boy" for all that entails. I like hard work. I like being out in the sun. I like working for a living, HARD work. I like to sweat under the summer sun, wipe grime from my face, dip my bandana in a cold cooler of ice to cool me down, and rest a minute under the sky. I like it when my friends say "Man, you gotta take a break. You're making me tired watching you!" I just want to go work some more just for that reason alone! I like things done the hard way because you respect them more when they're accomplished.

I'd rather build it than buy it.

I like songs about Dixie, apple pie, tailgates, pretty girls in shorts, hot coffee and cold beer served from a cooler, not a bar.

I like to pick on Yanks, the way they talk, the way they drive, the foods they eat, or more often won't eat. I'm southern.

I'm proud of my big trucks, love my four-wheelers, and I'm the guy that stops on the side of the road to help people ANYTIME they're in trouble. I carry 5 gallons of spare gas in my big "redneck" southern truck and a case of water everywhere I go... so i can help someone that needs it. Sometimes they're black. Sometimes they're white. The last time it was three young black ladies stranded on the side of the road in Georgia, trapped in a broken down car in the summer heat, sweltering and no one else would stop to see what was wrong... that's southern pride and southern gentility. I'm proud of the South and the things that means to me. Those are the Southern traits I try to instill in my family and children, and the traits I look for in my friends.

That red, white, and blue star with the X on it.. that's what it represents to me. It makes me proud to be Southern, not white. It makes me proud to be a country boy, not a city slicker. It means I open doors for strangers, hold the door for ladies, offer my umbrella to an older couple in the rain, reach out to offer a hand up to an old lady trying to get her walker up on the sidewalk in the heat, help someone load their groceries that look too heavy as I walk by them, stop to ask "Hey mister, you ok?" when I see someone that might need assistance, and take food to people when they're sick or injured and cant' care for themselves the way they'd like to normally....

THAT is what the confederate flag means to me. The confederate flag represents to ME.. in one small phrase.. "Southern Life."

So if a few of the rest of the people out there could look at it the way I do, they'd be pissed as hell that some OTHER people out there are TELLING ME what it means. You can't possibly TELL me what it means.

And if anyone WAS allowed to definitively describe the flag based on what someone else says, then I submit that MY definition of the confederate flag is the better one and it should be MY definition that is expressed when someone chooses to fly it over their capital building, state house, courthouse, or front yard..."

TV Land pulls Dukes of Hazzard
because, you know, that's a Confederate flag on the General Lee

    June 29, 2015

    For reals?

In case you're wondering just how powerful a wave of social media-driven hysteria can get, TV Land has your answer. This all started, of course, when that Confederate flag walked into a church in Charleston and shot those nine people. That's why you can no longer watch the Duke boys, Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltraine and Boss Hogg.
    Because: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/new...hazzard-806265

TV Land has pulled reruns of Dukes of Hazzard in light of the recent uproar over the Confederate flag, which is emblazoned on the roof of the show's iconic General Lee 1969 Dodge Charger, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

The show has faced criticism over the depiction of the controversial flag in the wake of the June 17 shooting in Charleston that left nine dead, and what many viewed as South Carolina's delayed decision to take the flag down.

Confederate merchandise has since been dropped by Wal-Mart, Target, Amazon and other businesses after the shooting, which took place at a historic black church.

Shortly after the attack, photos surfaced showing alleged shooter Dylann Roof burning one American flag and stepping on another, while waving and posing provocatively with Confederate banners.

Warner Bros.' consumer division announced on June 24 that it will stop licensing toy cars and models featuring the General Lee with the flag.
    Idiocy knows no bounds.

Here's a thought: As much as I have no use for the Conferedate flag, I have even less use for the obsession with symbols in the aftermath of an act of evil. The Conferedate flag didn't make Dylann Roof kill those people. He did it because he's evil. Maybe we need to pull every show from TV that depicts evil, if that's now the way we're going to look at these things.

Not only are we blaming symbols for things done by people, we're apparently also surrendering the option of ever laughing at anything. Have you ever watched the Dukes of Hazzard? Regardless of whether it's your brand of humor, the idea that there's a serious theme of any kind being put forward is so ridiculous, it simply boggles the mind that TV Land really thought this was a worthwhile move in any way.

This country has become so damn stupid, I don't even know what to say about it anymore.

Hannity Thinks if the Confederate Flag is Banned, Rap Music Should Be Too (VIDEO)

Sean Hannity spoke out on his radio show and says that the stores that stopped selling paraphernalia with the confederate flag are being hypocritical if they continue to sell rap music. Hannity says "a lot of the music by those artists is chock full of the n-word and the b-word and the h-word, and racist, misogynist, sexist anti-woman slurs none of those retail executes would be caught dead using."

    Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome

Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome: America's Legacy of Enduring Injury and Healing (PTSS) is a 2005 book by Joy DeGruy (formerly Leary)[1] PTSS describes a set of behaviors, beliefs and actions associated with or, related to multi-generational trauma experienced by African Americans that may be inclusive of but not limited to undiagnosed and untreated Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in enslaved Africans.[1]

PTSS is an explanatory theory which posits that centuries of slavery in the United States, followed by systemic and structural racism and oppression, have resulted in multigenerational maladaptive behaviors, which originated as survival strategies. The syndrome continues because children whose parents suffer from PTSS will often be indoctrinated into the same behaviors, long after the behaviors have lost their contextual effectiveness. The author states that PTSS is not a "disorder" that can simply be treated and remedied clinically but rather must necessarily require a profound social and structural change in Americans and American institutions that continue to promote inequalities and injustice. The author holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication, a master's degree in Social Work (MSW), a master's degree in Clinical Psychology, and a Ph.D. in Social Work Research. She teaches social work at Portland State University and gives lectures on PTSS nationally and internationally.
