Hmm, wasn’t there just a deal made with Iran? Don’t you think that perhaps bringing Mr. Levinson home should have been part of the deal? Nah! Pastor Saaed was not included either as both Martha MacCallum and Sarah Palin pointed out. http://twitchy.com/2013/11/25/cant-s...stor-question/

But, hey, the White House is totally committed, guys!

White House Lying About Details of Nuke Deal

Iranian officials say White House fact sheet is ‘invalid’

    BY: Adam Kredo - November 26, 2013 4:25 pm

Iranian officials say that the White House is misleading the public about the details of an interim nuclear agreement reached over the weekend in Geneva.

Iran and Western nations including the United States came to an agreement on the framework for an interim deal late Saturday night in Geneva. The deal has yet to be implemented

The White House released a multi-page fact sheet containing details of the draft agreement shortly after the deal was announced.

However, Iranian foreign ministry official on Tuesday rejected the White House’s version of the deal as “invalid” and accused Washington of releasing a factually inaccurate primer that misleads the American public.

“What has been released by the website of the White House as a fact sheet is a one-sided interpretation of the agreed text in Geneva and some of the explanations and words in the sheet contradict the text of the Joint Plan of Action, and this fact sheet has unfortunately been translated and released in the name of the Geneva agreement by certain media, which is not true,” Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham told the Iranian press on Tuesday.

Afkham and officials said that the White House has “modified” key details of the deal and released their own version of the agreement in the fact sheet.

Iran’s right to enrich uranium, the key component in a nuclear weapon, is fully recognized under the draft released by Tehran.

“This comprehensive solution would enable Iran to fully enjoy its right to nuclear energy for peaceful purposes under the relevant articles of the NPT in conformity with its obligations therein,” the agreement reads, according to a copy released to Iranian state-run media.

“This comprehensive solution would involve a mutually defined enrichment programme with practical limits and transparency measures to ensure the peaceful nature of the programme,” the Iranian draft reads. “This comprehensive solution would constitute an integrated whole where nothing is agreed until everything is agreed.”

Iran’s objection to the deal as presented in the fact sheet raises new concerns about final stage talks meant to ensure that the deal is implemented in the next few weeks.

The White House confirmed to the Washington Free Beacon on Monday that the final details of the plan have yet to be worked out, meaning that Iran is not yet beholden to a six month freeze its nuclear activities.

“Technical details to implement the Joint Plan of Action must be finalized before the terms of the Plan begin,” a senior administration official told the Free Beacon. “The P5+1 and Iran are working on what the timeframe is.”

The White House could not provide additional details on the timeframe when approached by the Free Beacon on Tuesday.

As the details are finalized, Iran will have the ability to continue its most controversial enrichment program. This drew criticism from proponents of tough nuclear restrictions.

“The six month clock should have started early Sunday morning,” said former Ambassador Mark Wallace, the CEO of United Against a Nuclear Iran (UANI). “If this is a serious agreement, the P5+1 must ensure that these negotiations do not become a tool for Iran to further increase its enrichment abilities.”

Christians United for Israel (CUFI) Executive Director David Brog said he fears that the White House may have been “played by the Iranians.”

“This may prove to be yet another worrisome sign that the Obama Administration was played by the Iranians,” Brog told the Free Beacon in a statement. “Their concessions were either illusory or meaningless, while ours will resuscitate the Iranian economy.”

The White House said in its fact sheet on the deal that it could release up to $7 billion dollars to Iran during the first phase of the agreement.

The United States additionally agreed to suspend “certain sanctions on gold and precious metals, Iran’s auto sector, and Iran’s petrochemical exports, potentially providing Iran approximately $1.5 billion in revenue,” according to the now disputed fact sheet.

Iran could earn another $4.2 billion in oil revenue under the deal.

Another “$400 million in governmental tuition assistance” could also be “transferred from restricted Iranian funds directly to recognized educational institutions in third countries to defray the tuition costs of Iranian students,” according to the White House.

While Iranian foreign ministry officials did not specify their precise disagreements with the White House, they insisted that “the Iranian delegation was much rigid and laid much emphasis on the need for this accuracy.”

Retired FBI agent becomes longest held American hostage in history after more than six years in Iran

He was privately investigating cigarette smuggling after leaving FBI in 1998

There have been claims Iran's government are holding him, despite denials

A retired FBI agent has become the longest-held American hostage in history, more than six years after he was kidnapped in Iran.

Robert Levinson, 65, has now been held for exactly 2,455 days - one day more than US journalist Terry Anderson who was released by his Iran-backed Hezbollah captors in 1991, according to the FBI.

Levinson, who left the bureau in 1998, was working as a private investigator looking into cigarette smuggling on the Iranian island of Kish - a hotbed for organised crime - when he vanished in 2007.

The last his family heard of him was in 2011 when they were sent video and photos of him an anonymous email sparking fears the Iranian intelligence services may be behind his abduction.

Levinson, a private investigator, disappeared in 2007 on the Iranian island of Kish.

The Iranian government has repeatedly denied knowing anything about his disappearance, and the disturbing video and photos that Levinson’s family received in late 2010 and early 2011 seemed to give credence to the idea.

Two years later, with the investigation stalled, the consensus now among some U.S. officials involved in the case is that despite years of denials, Iran’s intelligence service was almost certainly behind the 54-second video and five photographs of Levinson that were emailed anonymously to his family.

The level of expertise used to send those items was too good, indicating professional spies were behind them, the officials said, speaking on the condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to talk publicly.

While everything dealing with Iran is murky, their conclusion is based on the U.S. government’s best intelligence analysis.

The photos, for example, portray Levinson in an orange jumpsuit like those worn by detainees at the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay. The family received them via email in April 2011. In each photo, he held a sign bearing a different message.

Valerie Jarrett, Chicago, and the Iran Deal
Last week, the Times of Israel reported that senior presidential adviser Valerie Jarrett had been leading talks with Iran in secret for a year before the formal negotiations in Geneva this month. While the White House denied the report "100 percent," the existence of back-channel talks has been confirmed by other reporting. The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday that President Barack Obama had "personally overseen" the talks.

    by Joel B. Pollak 26 Nov 2013

Almost anything "personally overseen" by the President Obama is likely to bear the heavy stamp of Ms. Jarrett, who is the president's closest adviser, despite a shocking track record of failure. In foreign policy, her most important mistake was her effort to dissuade the president from proceeding with the raid on Osama bin Laden. It was one of the few times that President Obama overruled her counsel--and one of his few successes.

Jarrett's involvement in Iran is cause for concern for three additional reasons--two minor and one major. One minor reason is that she was born there. That should not automatically disqualify anyone, of course, any more than being born in the Soviet Union would have disqualified an anti-Soviet dissident. But Jarrett was born in 1956 to American expatriates in the aftermath of the CIA-assisted coup that deposed Mohammad Mossadegh.

The Iranian regime remains obsessed with the Mossadegh coup as proof of America's innate evil--and for decades, some Americans have felt a sense of post-colonial guilt about it. That feeling may be particularly acute for an American born in the shadow of that event. The temptation to show contrition by acceding to Iran's goals, as a kind of restorative justice, could well shape Jarrett's involvement, and Obama's approach.

The second minor reason to worry about Jarrett's involvement in Iran is her political background. Her entrée into the world of left-wing politics in Chicago was through her father-in-law, Vernon Jarrett, a journalist with somewhat radical views. Jarrett spoke out against antisemitism in the black community, for example, but also took anti-Israel stands, accusing pro-Israel Jews of "support of genocide" in the Lebanon War, for example. http://news.google.com/newspapers?ni...g=5429,3283404

These two reasons for concern are fairly minor, because they are based on mere speculation, and would have to be balanced out by other factors, such as Ms. Jarrett's personal associations with leaders of the pro-Israel community in Chicago. But the major reason for concern about her role is simply that Jarrett has banished, and repulsed, most of the Obama administration's most competent appointees from the White House.

One of the most important departures was that of Dennis Ross, who was brought into the White House early in the Obama presidency to advise the president on the Middle East. Ross, who advocated a tough approach to Iran, is widely thought to have been marginalized by the president's inner circle. He left the White House in 2011, ostensibly because he had only promised to serve two years, but likely because he was not being utilized. http://thecable.foreignpolicy.com/po...ng_white_house

Finally, it is worth noting that Jarrett, despite her expatriate origins, has little experience in international affairs, and is said to manage Obama's policies through a domestic political lens. If she was as involved in the talks as reports suggest, that could be a major reason for the president's eagerness to sign almost any deal, even one the French rejected as too weak. In any other administration, she likely would have been ignored.

... the existence of back-channel talks has been confirmed by other reporting.

Israel only loser of win-win N-deal: Fetzer

Professor James H. Fetzer has joined Press TV’s Top 5 to further discuss the Geneva nuclear deal and the US senators’ rush to impose new rounds of sanctions against Iran, contrary to the terms of the agreement.

What follows is an approximate transcription of the interview.

Press TV: Professor Fetzer Iran has been taking confidence-building measures, transparent measures, with regards to its nuclear energy program even before the signing of this deal and more so after the agreement was signed into a deal in Geneva.

Why is it that we are seeing such a hostility springing from the West though?

Fetzer: Well, I am sorry but it appears that a certain number of members of the Senate are completely under the control of Israel and have no concern for the best interest of the United States or the world.

Israel is obviously the problem in this equation. Israel is the rogue state, Israel has a vast collection of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons which it has never declared.

Iran has been a peaceful nation for more than 300 years, it has not attacked any other nation, it has signed the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), it has allowed the inspectors, it has been very forthcoming, it is not pursuing a nuclear weapons program.

Even our own US intelligence agencies converged in a finding in 2007 that Iran was not pursuing a nuclear weapons program and finally they reaffirmed in 2011.

On what basis are these senators opposing resolution of a major problem in the Middle East? I cannot believe it. It is utterly irresponsible, it is completely irrational and it is a betrayal of their responsibility to the people of the United States and indeed to the world.

Press TV: And another question that does spring to mind is, looking how Iran has tried to ensure that this is a win-win deal, it has obviously secured its rights, its nuclear rights as far as international law is concerned, however it has the right to make a win-win deal for both the West and for Iran and yet it seems that the Western governments are not happy about it.

We have already seen the EU re-imposing sanctions on the Iranian shipping companies as well.

Why do you think that this is so?

Fetzer: Well, I wish I could tell you that it is not because of the extent of the Zionist influence on the West but that is clearly a manifestation thereof.

These sanctions are a form of collective punishment that were found to be a war crime by the Nuremberg tribunal. When the intelligence agencies of the United States have concluded that there is no Iranian nuclear weapons program, when the Iranians have disavowed the pursuit of nuclear weapons, when Iran has signed the Non-Proliferation Treaties and it now allows the inspectors.

What do they think that Iran would do if it had a few bombs? Attack Israel? when Israel has an overwhelming stockpile and could annihilate Iran.

This is the most irrationality I have ever seen from the American senators. It is disgraceful, it is disgusting and the Obama administration must prevail.

I am very glad to report that Senator Dianne Feinstein, who is the chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, has endorsed going forward with these negotiations with Iran, which should be a win-win.

The only loser on the table is Israel, which is going to have to forfeit its best excuse for attacking Iran for which there was never any justification to begin with.

    Does this article sound antisemitic?

Here is another article criticizing Israel from RT, previously known as Russia Today.
RT is funded by the federal budget of Russia through the Federal Agency on Press and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation.

Israel’s opposition to Iran deal shows ‘it’s not committed to peace’

Netanyahu’s hostile statements about Iran show the imperialist nature of the Israeli regime, Caleb Maupin, an activist from the International Action Center, told RT.

RT: Netanyahu seemed desperate to prevent this deal [nuclear deal between P5+1 world powers and Iran] from materializing yet when an agreement was reached, what is the next step now?

Caleb Maupin: What we are seeing is Israel playing the role it always played. Israel was created in 1948 after WWII when many countries throughout the Middle East were establishing national liberation and independent economic development. And at the time Israel was created as an outpost to Western colonialism and imperialism to prevent countries in the Middle East from establishing their independence. So their hostility towards Iran is based on the fact that Iran has set out since 1979, since its heroic revolution, has set out on a course of independent economic development, not relying on the Western bankers and imperialists, but really on the path of self-reliance serving the people of Iran and not the bankers on Wall Street. Iran has made clear that they have no desire to make nuclear weapons, but yet this talk coming from Netanyahu is very frightening, it shows to the people of the world that Israeli government is not committed to peace.

RT: Relations between Obama and Netanyahu are strained now. How much trouble will Netanyahu have to convince Washington not to endorse some sort of deal in six month?

CM: The people of the world want peace, they want cooperation between countries, they don’t want hostility and war, and if Netanyahu continues to be committed to this aggression, to this hostility, he is going to be further isolated around the world because what he wants is diametrically opposed to what the people of the world are striving for.

RT: The flip side to this is that Washington is going to lose some of its power when it comes to Israeli-Palestinian negotiations and matters of the future. What do you think?

CM: The Israeli government has always represented the most right-wing sections of Western finance capital, of bankers and imperialists and they will continue to do that. And while we are seeing Netanyahu making these statements, he works for the imperialists and he will continue to do that. That is the role the Israeli government has always played, it is an outpost of Western colonialism attacking the people of the Middle East and it sees Iran as a threat because of Iran’s independence economic development and its refusal to follow the orders of Western imperialists.

RT: Netanyahu said that “Israel will defend itself with its own forces.” What does he actually mean by that? Is it actually capable of attacking Iran in a meaningful way?

CM: These words coming from Netanyahu are disgusting. It really flows from the fact that Israeli state bases itself on a racist ideology of Zionism, which views the people of the Middle East as sub-human. This is outrages when Israel has stockpiles of nuclear weapons, yet they are afraid of Iran developing peaceful nuclear energy. It is hypocrisy that flows through everything. It really shows the nature of the Israeli regime.

RT: How is it going affect its relations with the rest of the world?

CM: There are a whole network of countries around the world with different religions, different ideologies, different economic systems, but they are all pulling together to oppose the will of Wall Street and the domination by financial centers in London and oppose the will of the Western bankers and imperialists, whether it is China, Russian, Iran, Venezuela , Cuba. These countries are coming together and staring together against the power of Western banking. And this is a development, which is very much a threat to the old order of power, where a few super rich countries dominate the world. Things are changing and I think the fact that these negotiations are going on and a deal has been reached is a positive sign. It shows that the old way of doing things is changing and the world is being re-set up in a way.

RT: Your personal thoughts about this Iranian deal?

CM: It is a step in the right direction, it shows the people of the world want peace, they want negotiation, they want trade between countries, they want equality. And if Israel is opposed that shows what Israel is all about.

The Iranian Hostage Crisis: 34 Years Later
November 7, 2013 by Majid Rafizadeh 17 Comments

Print This Post Print This Post

13920813144849231468654As the Obama administration stays determined to push for domestic and foreign policies that would prevent further pressure on the Islamic Republic of Iran, attempting to diplomatically and pleasantly reach out to the Islamists in Iran, just this week Islamist Iranian leaders responded to Obama’s outreach and foreign policies with a robust reaffirmation of their antagonism towards the United States and Israel.

This Monday marked the 34th anniversary of the American Embassy takeover in Iran, which led to 52 Americans being held hostage for several months in Tehran during the Carter administration. Contrary to what many liberal policy analysts in the Obama administration thought, and despite their recent portrayal of the constructive ties between the Islamists in Iran and United States, several powerful political Iranian institutions called for one of the biggest rallies this week.

Tens of thousands of Iranian demonstrators packed the streets outside the former US embassy in Tehran. Hundreds of thousands also demonstrated against Israel and the US in various cities across the country. This call to rally against the United States and Israel created one of the most unprecedented demonstrations in size and scope. Many Western and Eastern media outlets reported that these gatherings were the biggest anti-US and anti-Israel rally in years. Even according to Iran’s official media, millions of people participated in the protests around the country, resulting in the largest anti-US and anti-Israel demonstration turnout in years.

Additionally, the leaders of the Islamic Republic of Iran declared November 4th as the “National Day against Global Arrogance.” While this week, tens of thousands of Iranians shouted “Death to America” and “Death to Israel.” The burning of American and Israeli flags took place throughout Iranian cities. Furthermore, effigies of US President Barack Obama, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and US Secretary of State John Kerry were held up high by protestors.

The more the Obama administration pushes for a weakening of policies towards Iran — such as compromising and calling the ruling party “moderate” — the more the Islamic Republic of Iran is sending formidable signs to the United States that it will not put away its antagonizing policies towards the United States.

For 34 years, the United States and the international community have tried—through unilateral, bilateral, and multilateral talks, diplomatic initiatives, and later through sanctions, political, and economic pressure— to persuade the leaders of the Islamist state of Iran to change their extremist domestic and foreign policies, and to respect the modern standards of the international community, the United Nations, International Atomic Energy Agency, Amnesty International, and other human rights watch groups.

None of these political and diplomatic approaches have yielded a positive result. Not only have extremist Iranian leaders not scaled down their aggressive foreign policy and their support for terrorist proxies, but they have also increased their domestic repression, human rights abuses, imprisonment and execution of political and human rights activists, along with their persecution of Christians, Jews, and Baha’is.

After all the efforts undertaken by the international community, the Obama administration is, in a sense, restarting its foreign policy from a clean slate. President Obama is attempting to use pleasant diplomatic language with Iranian leaders to ease sanctions on the nation. According to Iranian media, Eastern mainstream news, and some Western outlets, President Obama has repeatedly and desperately begged President Rouhani to speak with him on the phone.

In the arena of international politics taking such initiatives a crucial issue arises, President Obama is significantly weakening the geopolitical position of the United States and emboldening the power of the hardliners and extremists in Iran.

Recently, one of the most powerful military and ideologically hardlined institutions in Iran, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corp (IRGC) stated on the Persian Sepah News website, that the slogan “Death to America” was a sign, and manifestation, of the Iranian people’s will, determination, and robust resistance against “the dominance of oppressive and untrustworthy America.” Hardliners even announced a few days before the protests that they composed several new anti-American Islamist songs to be played next to the American embassy.

Additionally, during the opening session of Iran’s parliament (Majlis), all members of the Majlis joined the hardliners’ call, stating that they will proudly carry the slogan “Death to America.”

Beside all these foreign policy gaffs, the Obama administration is currently pushing to invite Iran to the Geneva II conference. Kerry has repeatedly called to engage Iran in the upcoming Geneva Conference.

The matter of fact is that the key political institutions of Iran- such as the IRGC, the paramilitary Basij militia, the ministry of intelligence and security, the Mostazafan Foundation of Islamic Revolution (which owns and manages approximately 350 subsidiary and affiliate companies in fields including industry, transportation, commerce, agriculture, and tourism), the Supreme National Security Council, the army, and the Expediency Council- have made it clear that their antagonism towards the United States and Israel is an unalterable part of their policies. The reason that these institutions exist is based on their fundamental ideology to act against Washington and Tel Aviv. Their existence, and Islamic legitimacy, will be endangered if they change this fundamental Islamic ideology.
