    "bored teens"

Aussie baseball player killed by 'bored' teens
    Updated Aug 20, 2013 7:43 AM ET

Christopher Lane was visiting his girlfriend when he was killed.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) An Australian man attending an Oklahoma college on a baseball scholarship was shot and killed in what police described Monday as a random act of violence by three ''bored'' teenagers who decided to kill someone for the fun of it.

Christopher Lane, 22, of Melbourne, was found dead Friday while visiting the town of Duncan, where his girlfriend lives. Three boys, ages 15, 16, and 17, are in custody and face a court appearance Tuesday afternoon.

Duncan Police Chief Danny Ford said Monday a woman called 911 after she saw Lane stagger across the road and fall to the ground in the south-central Oklahoma town of about 24,000 residents. Ford said Lane, who was staying with his girlfriend and her family in Duncan, had jogged past a home where the three boys were staying. He said the shooting appeared to be completely random.

Autopsy results are pending. Ford wouldn't say how many times Lane was shot.

Ford said the 17-year-old has given a detailed confession to police, but that investigators have not been able to locate the murder weapon. ''They saw Christopher go by, and one of them said: `There's our target,''' Ford said. ''The boy who has talked to us said: `We were bored and didn't have anything to do, so we decided to kill somebody.'

''They followed him in the car to that area, shot him in the back and drove off,'' Ford said.

He said the district attorney is expected to file first-degree murder charges Tuesday, and all three will be arraigned at Stephens County District Court. It wasn't known if the three will be charged as adults or as juveniles.

Sarah Harper, Lane's girlfriend, told the Australian Broadcasting Corp. that the two had only returned to the United States from Australia last week. ''He didn't deserve any of this,'' Harper told the network. ''It's heartbreaking that it was such a random choice those guys made that drastically altered so many lives in the process.''

Lane attended East Central University in Ada, about 85 miles west of Duncan. He started 14 games at catcher last year and was entering his senior year. ''He was an absolute joy to coach,'' baseball coach Dino Rosato said in a statement issued by the school. ''Chris was an extremely well-respected teammate. ... He set a great example for all of his teammates, but more importantly for the younger players. He was a mature student-athlete who his teammates could look to for advice and support.

Ford told Oklahoma City television station KOCO that one of the teenagers said they shot Lane for ''the fun of it.''

The chief told the Duncan Banner that police detained the three boys near a car and had retrieved a dismantled shotgun from the vehicle, but that Lane had been shot with another gun that had not yet been found. He said police have had ''problems'' with two of the three juveniles previously. He did not elaborate.

Peter Lane, the boy's father, told Australian broadcasters there was no explanation for his son's death. ''It is heartless and to try to understand it is a short way to insanity,'' he said.

3 Okla. teens charged in thrill kill of Aussie baseball player
    Updated 5:43 p.m. ET

OKLAHOMA CITY An Australian baseball player out for a jog in an Oklahoma neighborhood was shot and killed by three "bored" teenagers who decided to kill someone for fun, police said.

Christopher Lane, who was visiting the town of Duncan, where his girlfriend and her family live, had passed a home where the boys were staying and that apparently led to him being gunned down at random, Police Chief Danny Ford said Monday.

Prosecutors charged 15-year-old James Francis Edwards Jr. and 16-year-old Chancey Allen Luna with first-degree murder on Tuesday. Police say the two killed 22-year-old Christopher Lane on Friday to overcome boredom. Under Oklahoma law, anyone who is 15 or older and facing a first-degree murder charge is automatically tried in adult court.

Also Tuesday, 17-year-old Michael Dewayne Jones was charged with being an accessory after the fact and with using a vehicle during the discharge of weapon. Jones is charged as a youthful offender but will still have his case heard in adult court.

No bond was set for the younger boys. Bond was set at $1 million for Jones.

Ford said a 17-year-old defendant, Jones, told officers that the three teenagers were bored and shot Lane for "the fun of it."

"They saw Christopher go by, and one of them said: 'There's our target,'" Ford said. "The boy who has talked to us said, 'We were bored and didn't have anything to do, so we decided to kill somebody.'"

He said they followed the 22-year-old Lane, a student from Melbourne attending college on a baseball scholarship, in a car and shot him in the back before driving off.

Lane's father, Peter Lane, told media in Australia: "There's not gonna be any good to come out of this cause it was just so senseless."

Lane's American girlfriend also is struggling with the incident. "He didn't deserve any of this," Lane's girlfriend, Sarah Harper, told the Australian Broadcasting Corp. "It's heartbreaking that it was such a random choice those guys made that drastically altered so many lives in the process."

Witnesses rushed to help Lane after hearing a shot Friday and seeing him stagger and collapse on a road in Duncan, a south-central Oklahoma town of about 24,000 residents. "He was face down on the ground and he was shot in the back with a .22 revolver," builder Richard Rhodes told Australian broadcasters near a roadside memorial at the scene. "I had another lady stop and we tried CPR on him. And he passed away right here."

Harper said she and Lane had only returned to the United States from Australia last week.

"We were bored and decided to kill someone."
This was the excuse given to brutally murder this 22 year old man.

Where are the marches? Where are the race hustlers? Where is the outrage?
Where is the President on a pervasive problem which is gripping the community who supported him by over 90%?

    :crickets:

This happened in Cincinnati about 11 months ago and the victim died about three weeks ago. The Hamilton County Coroner ruled he died of natural causes even though he was beaten senseless last year by six black teens who said they were "bored". One teen's punishment in Cincinnati? He had to write a book report.

    ..

Get a job ~ have a purpose in life ~ you wont be bored !!! Fricken animals!

    ..

A disgusting example of the Hypocrisy of the Left. I have not heard one word uttered by the usually extremely loud race hustlers. Can you imagine the outrage and 24/7 news coverage had this been three white kids killing a black man just for kicks? There would have been marches, protests and probably riots. Hopefully these three little bastards will be Tried & Convicted as Adults and be Punished as Adults. NO MERCY!!

    ...

I'm not racist, but I agree, where is the media and the pres on this one! I know how to get this to stop. It's called the death penalty! No more stay of executions! If you are found guilty by a jury of your peers of a crime deserving of death, then you should be put to death! When people know they can kill and just go to jail for life, they don't fear anything!

    ..

Stop asking where Al & Jesse are, or even the president. The skin color isn't right - so why would they be out protesting, or even acknowledging this for that matter. Reverse discrimination is rampant in this Country, and as long as Obama is president, it's only going to get worse. Oh, for those who claim people are racist for NOT supporting Obama (which is a dumb argument in itself) remember it was the WHITE vote that put him in office so get the hell over yourselves, you racist b-st-rds

Have you seen these men? They are suspects in a fatal beating of an 88-year-old World War II veteran. We will have a full live update of this story on KREM 2 News at 10 and 11. Please share this post to get the word out.

Reprehensible and disgusting. Two black male teenagers are being sought in the beating death of 88-year-old Delbert Benton. Mr. Benton was an Army WW II veteran who survived combat during the bloody Battle of Okinawa. This must end! I have yet to hear a peep out of Head of NAACP Ben Jealous at all. As an Army combat veteran and son of a WW II veteran I am beyond angry. We have a problem in the black community and it is high time we taught this generation of young black men a lesson in respect, dignity, and honor. This can no longer be tolerated. Mr. Benton was an American treasure. Farewell my Brother. http://bit.ly/16RZA4l

Police seek 2 young suspects after World War II veteran beaten to death in parking lot
    Published August 23, 2013

Police in Washington state are searching for two young suspects who beat a World War II veteran to death in a parking lot Wednesday night. The Spokane Police Department says in a press release officers responded to reports of an assault and found the victim in his car with serious head injuries. He later died in the hospital.

Authorities on Thursday released surveillance photos of the two suspects, who they describe as African-American males between the ages of 16 and 19.

Friends identified the victim as Delbert Belton, and say he was sitting outside a lodge for the Fraternal Order of the Eagles when he was attacked.

KXLY-TV reports that Belton served in Army during World War II and was shot in the leg during the Battle for Okinawa. The station says he went on to work for Kaiser Aluminum for 30 years. Friends say he was known as “Shorty,” and enjoyed playing pool and working on cars. His wife passed away several years ago.

"It does appear random. He was in the parking lot, it appears he was assaulted in the parking lot and there was no indication that he would have known these people prior to the assault," Spokane Police Major Crimes Detective Lieutenant Mark Griffiths told the station.

Ted Denison told the station he was a friend of Belton's for 23 years and cannot comprehend how someone could have carried out such an attack. "He was always there for me when I needed him," Denison said. "We'd joke back and forth. We were always having fun, some sort of fun."

"I don't understand how somebody could do this. I really don't," he told the station.

The Spokane Police Department is asking anyone with information to call their hotline at 456-2233.

Investigators believe 8-year-old intentionally killed 90-year-old woman
    Posted: Aug 23, 2013 3:33 PM CDT

SLAUGHTER, LA (WAFB) - East Feliciana Parish Sheriff's Office officials say they believe an 8-year-old intentionally pulled the trigger and killed an elderly woman Thursday evening right after playing 'Grand Theft Auto IV'. In what is now being called a homicide, the Sheriff's Office says it happened at the Country Breeze mobile home park on LA 67 near Slaughter, LA just after 5 p.m.

Investigators said they found a woman with a gunshot wound to the head. She was pronounced dead at the scene. According to family members of the victim, her name was Marie Smothers. Smothers was 90 years old.

In a release from the Sheriff's Office, it says although the child told investigators that he accidentally shot Smothers while playing with a firearm, the investigation has led investigators to believe the child intentionally shot her in the back of the head in the living room while she was watching television.

The release also states "By accounts of relatives of the victim, as well as friends of the family, the victim and the juvenile had a normal, loving, relationship." "Although a motive for the shooting is unknown at this time investigators have learned that the juvenile suspect was playing a video game on the Play Station III "Grand theft Auto IV", a realistic game that has been associated with encouraging violence and awards points to players for killing people, just minutes before the homicide occurred."

An autopsy was performed Friday afternoon, but results have not been released at this time.

The 8-year-old suspect was released to his parents Thursday night. His name has not been released because of his age. Authorities say that Louisiana law prohibits them from charging the child with a crime because of his age.

The law states: "Those who have not reached the age of 10 years are exempt from criminal responsibility. However, nothing in this article shall affect the jurisdiction of juvenile courts as established by the constitution and statutes of this state."

    The investigation is ongoing.

Wayne Dupree: An Open Letter to the Parents of Chris Lane
    On August 22, 2013 http://newsninja2012.com/

To the Parents and People of Australia,

I would ask that you please accept our sincerest apologies. Please look past our government, our sometimes active civil rights leaders and organizations, and our so-called spiritual conscience that has not come out with some sort of verbal condemnation of this horrible attack.

I am an American that grieves with you. There are no words or actions that can bring back your son and your citizen. I wish I was there to show you just how sorry I feel that these monsters who were “bored” felt they had to be the bullies on the block, while actually showing just how cowardly they really were.

You see, we had an incident here in the United States where a young black man was shot during a fight, which brought out all types of media coverage, race peddlers and ministers of “just us,” but I am totally angry that these crooks of propaganda are not out in support of what happened to your son.

Even our President associated himself with this young black man saying that “this could have happened to him,” but what is strange is that he’s also half Caucasian and he stands quiet on this issue as this could have been him too.

Chris was doing what he loved and cherished. He was living his dream and being the best at what he pushed himself to be. These young criminals are not the best of what America can produce, just what America is producing in these times right now and for that we are ashamed.

America is still a great nation and we intend to help it regain its shining light. But this murder is a dark chapter in this nation’s history that won’t be forgotten.

To the family of Christopher Lane, I ask that God Bless You and Keep you. I pray that he wrap his protective arms around you during this time of grieving. I pray that God gives you peace and strength.

For the country of Australia, once again, please do not judge the rest of the United States for these three cowardly monsters. They are not representative of America’s future, and we will make sure of that. Please don’t shut the doors of collaboration and friendship. God will work his will and it will be done so to his glory!

    Yours Truly,

    Wayne Dupree, Newsninja2012

    Negligent parents, lawbreaking kids
    By LZ Granderson, CNN Contributor

updated 11:19 AM EDT, Thursday August 22, 2013

(CNN) -- A detail in the fatal shooting of 14-year-old Shaaliver Douse by a New York Police Department officer earlier this month has been stopping me from grieving his death.

The tragedy happened around 3 a.m.

Why was a 14-year-old boy out that late without his mother, Shanise Farrar, who called the shooting an assassination? Or his aunt, Quwana Barcene, who said the bloody gun police say was found near his body was part of a coverup? Where was the supervising adult who should have been with a 14-year-old boy walking the streets of New York at 3 o'clock in the morning? "I'm not saying that he's the best one, but he's my angel," his grieving mother said.

Her "angel" was a suspected gang member who police say was chasing and shooting at an unidentified man when they encountered him.

Her "angel" was arrested last month for attempted murder of a 15-year-old.

Her "angel" left their apartment around 8 p.m. and she had no idea where he was until the next morning when detectives informed her that her son was dead.

I want to mourn for her loss, I really do.

But as callous and as heartless as this sounds, I just can't get past what awful parents she and the boy's father were. Children may be born angels, but with all the temptations out there in the world, it takes work to try to keep them that way.

I'm sure the three teenagers suspected in the death of 23-year-old Christopher Lane -- killed because they allegedly were bored -- started off as angels. But who, besides their parents, would call them angels now?

"I know my son. He's a good kid," said Jennifer Luna, the mother of the boy prosecutor Jason Hicks said pulled the trigger.

As a newspaper reporter, I covered and was around a fair number of crime scenes involving juvenile delinquents and few things bothered me more than listening to their parents. Crying, ranting, proclaiming how great their children were despite being kicked out of school or previous run-ins with the law.

That's not to say kids won't be kids. Of course they will be.

Which is why it is vitally important that parents be parents.

So when kids get bored, they don't think they should go "f**k with some n**gers," as then-18-year-old Deryl Dedmon Jr. suggested before he and his buddies ran over and killed 49-year-old auto worker James Craig Anderson, the first black person he saw, with his pickup truck back in 2011. Or randomly shoot a college student jogging down the street as entertainment -- though it seems the shooting may not have been as random as previously thought considering one of the suspects, who is black, tweeted that he hated white people back in April.

Parents are supposed to instill a sense of right and wrong in their children and then keep up the due diligence necessary to make sure they don't veer off that path. When parents don't do that, we end up with three 15-year-olds assaulting and breaking the arm of a 13-year-old on a school bus in Florida.

"This is life. I am sorry what happened to the victim," Julian McKnight Sr., whose son Julian was one of the boys accused in the attack, said after a court appearance. A second appearance is scheduled later this month.

"It's just the way it is. My son ain't never been no bad person, he just got mixed with bad people, that's all ... he sorry."

I am not a perfect parent with all the answers. But I do know that it was the father, and not the son, who was apologizing -- and that, my friends, is our problem in a nutshell.

We don't teach accountability, we don't expect accountability and I'm not even sure we even know what accountability looks like anymore. Some of us have become so addicted to pointing fingers at others for all the wrong that happens in our lives that self-assessment has become synonymous with blaming the victim.

Yes, there are cultural factors that make parenting difficult. And sometimes a bad seed is just that. But none of this excuses us from taking personal responsibility where we can.

I am tired of seeing "sorry" being used to cloak negligent parents.

Sorry won't bring back Christopher Lane or James Craig Anderson.

And they, too, were each somebody's "angel."

If "sorry" is not good enough to protect a bartender who serves alcohol to a visibly intoxicated person who drives and kills someone, why is "sorry" good enough for parents who, through negligence, are culpable for the crimes their undisciplined children commit?

If my son goes out and breaks the neighbor's window, I have to pay for it. Why is a window more sacred than another human life?

We need to hold parents more accountable, both culturally and legally, for the actions of their children. Maybe then more parents will be more engaged in the lives of their children on the front end, rather than the back end, in front of a judge. Society has avenues for juveniles who refuse to obey their parents. But where are the safeguards for society when parents decide not to use those avenues?

I'm tired of hearing how good the kids who commit heinous crimes are. Maybe we should start putting parents on the witness stand so they can tell us exactly what they did to raise such perfect children.
