The Embarrassment That Is CNN Situation Room’s Coverage Of Boston
posted at 6:01 pm on April 15, 2013 by Duane Patterson

Wolf Blitzer took to the airwaves at 5pm Eastern time, about two hours after the twin bombings near the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Wolf brought on CNN contributor Tom Fuentes, who didn’t want to ‘speculate’ as to whether this was terrorism, but that if it was, certainly there are a lot of domestic terrorist groups like white supremacists and/or the Aryan Brotherhood.

    Not helpful.

12 minutes later, former California Congresswoman Jane Harman said, while video streamed of the two different blasts, seconds apart, a block apart, we don’t know as of yet whether this was terrorism.

    Also not helpful.

CNN, purportedly being a news agency, is supposed to be able to report the news. There is conclusive and persuasive evidence showing that this was a terrorist attack. Two explosions that closely timed at a public event isn’t a boo-boo. It wasn’t an accident. Some al-Qaeda type isn’t going to issue a communique later and say, “My bad, didn’t mean for that to go off there, we’re sorry.” It was a terrorist attack, and CNN is going out of its way to make sure they don’t jump to that conclusion.

But, if it were a terrorist attack, apparently CNN’s threshold for speculation is a lot lower, where they can immediately point fingers that it could be those crazy right wing white extremists.

It’s too bad the network’s systemic ideological disease is getting in the way of reporting the human drama unfolding before them in a responsible way. We grieve for the victims of the bombing, and for all the relatives of those involved. We are all from Boston today, and I say that as a lifelong Southern California sports fan. And believe me, that’s not easy to say. We should all grieve for the first day or two. But we should also rage that we were again attacked. We need to find out who did this, and once we do, may hell rain down upon their heads. In the meantime, CNN, how about doing your job? Report what we do know, and don’t report what we don’t know. Doesn’t seem too hard to ask, does it?

Steve King warns Boston bombing raises concerns ahead of immigration reform
    12:21 PM 04/16/2013

Congressman Steve King thinks the unsettled facts in the Boston Marathon bombing Monday should be enough to cause lawmakers pushing along changes to the nation’s immigration laws to step back and “take a look at the big picture.”

“Some of the speculation that has come out is that yes, it was a foreign national and, speculating here, that it was potentially a person on a student visa,” King told National Review in an interview published Tuesday. http://www.nationalreview.com/corner...on-immigration

The Iowa Republican said that speculation should be enough to give lawmakers enough pause so that they shift their focus away from immigration and to national security.

The New York Post and Fox News have reported that a 20-year-old Saudi national who was injured in one of Monday’s blasts had been detained as a person of interest. Fox News’s source ”stressed that the person of interest is not a suspect.”

On the immigration front, the Senate “Gang of Eight” is expected to introduce extensive "reform" legislation Tuesday.

ILLEGAL iMMIGRATION *IS* about National Security.

Napp has stated herself - in front of Congress - that they are "aware" that the loose border secruity has allowed "numerous" persons from the Middle East to cross our borders. What !?!

I don't think it was a right winger, simply because the target was the marathon. Yes, tax day, patriot day, Boston, etc. but the intended victims were not lefties or any certain group (i.e. illegals, gays, etc.). They were Americans.

From what I heard, the bombs were more like "pipe bombs" rather than a more sophisticated and fiercer structural damaging bombs, so something "organized", I feel, is doubtful. Also because I don't think anyone of them has claimed responsibility, which they often have done becuase they are "proud" and want to encourage more of the same/sympathizers.

If I had to guess, it could be a sympathizer of one of the organized groups acting on "their own"...or a "loose" order.

US Forest Service PR rep blames Boston bombing on Tea Party ==> http://twitchy.com/2013/04/16/us-for...-on-tea-party/

President Obama declared last night that “people shouldn’t jump to conclusions before we have all the facts.” Stephanie Johnson apparently decided to disregard that advice.

I fear nutty logic goes like this ... Patriots Day. April 15. Tax Day. Bad government. Boston. Tea Party. Let's show 'em. #prayforboston

    Stephanie Johnson (@ForestInsider) April 15, 2013
Ms. Johnson’s Twitter handle is @ForestInsider. She identifies herself as a “US Forest Service public affairs professional” from Atlanta and tweets about the U.S. Forest Service Southern Region:

This could be Ms. Johnson’s LinkedIn page. If so, she is Director of Public Affairs for the Southern Region of the U.S. Forest Service. http://www.linkedin.com/in/stephanienealjohnson

    Hat tip: P P.

Update: She has deleted the tweet. Nice try, Ms Johnson. But Twitchy is forever.

ll this makes sense. The Tea Party has a long history of blowing things up so it's only natural for them to be the first choice. Oh wait.

    ..

Right, I mean at every tea party event you just hear about all the crap we do not do.. Altho in every ows event we hear raped, assaults, and in a couple of planned bridge detonation!!

    ..

Public Affairs = Public Relations = Press Agent. Do know what a Press Agent does? Their job is to spin the facts in a positive light for their client / employer (only use the facts that are beneficial, leaving out overwhelming evidence to the contrary: prevarication).

Translation: she's looking for a promotion.

    Post By Linda Leonard Ambard

Today, I was running the Boston Marathon. I was the cheerful girl zipping through the marathon with a swish of her red polka dotted skirt and a huge smile on her face. I ribbed the army people working the course with my call out, "Air Power." I stopped twice to use the potty and I was but a quarter mile from the end when I heard a loud boom, felt the street shake, and started to smell a smell I never smelled before. All hell broke loose. People were screaming and sprinting away from the finish line. The race immediately ended. For me, a girl who was invited to run to honour her soldier who was taken by another terrorist on 27 April 2011, it threw me back into a spot where I immediately felt out of control, that my life was being torn apart, and I stood immobilised sobbing for again the terrorist sought to take yet another thing that matters in my life.

I find joy in running and I have grabbed my life back by running. It is the singular aspect of my life that allows me to find my faith and to find happiness. I am sitting in total disbelief. How could it be that two potty breaks saved me today? How can it be that as I was running to snub my nose at the terrorist that took Phil, another sought to destroy the hard fought for happiness I have found. It cannot end this way. I am shaking and I am physically ill tonight, but I will pick myself up one faltering step at a time until I can run victorious once again. I cannot let these vile monsters create any more fear in my life. I just can't.

There were heroes today. I met a man who was an instructor at my training these past weeks. He brought his family and found me. He got me back to my hotel. A nurse sat with me as I sobbed my eyes out and shook violently in the Dunkin Doughnuts store. So many people called me. My phone did not have reception, yet the singular two phone calls that got through were phone calls from people who came to get me. My children were terrified and that is what hurts. This event brought fear back into my family--fear of loss and fear of violent acts. How can I fix the hurts in my children when I am right there? I ask for prayers and I ask for some time to process this event. I will find the strength that I fall into with my faith. The terrorist will never EVER maim my heart, my spirit, or my drive to live life out loud. Got that?

A list of what the media IS NOT telling you about the Boston TERROR attack
Why isn't the media reporting what doctors and others are saying?

By Catholic Online (NEWS CONSORTIUM) 4/15/2013

    http://landing.newsinc.com/shared/vi...e&VID=24740675

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) Media across the United States are delivering paltry details on the obvious terrorist attack in Boston.

Mainstream media and even President Obama are showing great reticence to even label the attack as a terrorist attack.

Here is what is being reported from various leads in the area.

    - There are THREE confirmed dead and over 150 injured.

    - One of the dead is an eight-year-old boy.

    - Doctors are reporting they are removing ball bearings from the bodies of victims.

    - Most of the victims are receiving medical amputations.

    - Many victims suffered traumatic injuries consistent with shrapnel wounds.

    - Many others presented with broken eardrums from the blasts.

    - A third device was disabled by authorities.

    - There may have been as many as FIVE to SEVEN devices planted in various locations.

    - The devices may have been detonated by cell phone.

    - Cellular service to the area was terminated by law enforcement immediately following the attack.

    - A fire at the JFK library was related to the attack.

    - President Obama, others in the media, law enforcement authorities, have refused to refer to the attack as a terrorist attack.

    - Authorities insist they DO NOT have anyone in custody, however a "person of interest" is reportedly being held in an area hospital with severe burn injuries. That individual is said to be a Saudi National, 20 years old.

    - A photograph shows another person being taken into police custody. That person appears to be wearing a white headpiece that could be a shemagh.

    - Bystanders reportedly tackled a man of Middle-Eastern nationality following the attack, claiming he was acting suspiciously.

The question that remains to be answered is why these facts are being systematically suppressed in the media? Even if they are not entirely accurate, the public deserves to hear what information the authorities have, with the caveat the information is unconfirmed.

Catholic Online is committed to reporting the facts as we receive them from sources, however we will be clear that we are reporting leads and the situation may develop with new facts and information.

There can be no mistake. This is an act of terror. Regardless of the origin or motivation of the bomber(s) we have been attacked by terrorists.

Security is being stepped up across the country in response to today's attack.

Because this wasn't a Sandy Hook the president says don't jump to conclusions. He can't or won't explain what happened in Benghazi and he needs some time now to find a scapegoat for this terrorist attack. Benghazi or Boston, what's the difference, the terrorists are telling us they can to this anywhere they choose. Yet the streets of his home town of Chicago are just as bloody with the lives of young black kids on a daily basis and his adoring media avoids any mention while he remains silent campaigning, golfing, partying, or on vacation.

    ..

"Even if they are not entirely accurate, the public deserves to hear what information the authorities have, with the caveat the information is unconfirmed"
    This is an irresponsible view.

But, suppose further that the news media says that there are unconfirmed reports that this was a terrorist attack coming from Catholics protesting the HHS Mandate. And then, suppose that the reports are later proven to be false.

Do you really think that a retraction will undo the harm?

    ..

One reason they are down playing on a middle east suspect right now is obvious ! right after 9/11 a store and gas station operated by south Asian Americans was shot up from the road in my part of the country the mid-west.and the owners were force to close over night .There's not a item above that I did not pick up yesterday on the news

Barney Frank on the Boston bombing:
Let this serve as a reminder to you, smaller government tax cut zealots!

    By Doug Powers • April 16, 2013 02:39 PM

The wisdom Frank tried to impart on CNN this morning is that the best way to fight against terrorism is by making government a lot bigger. http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/...al_717921.html

Video via The Weekly Standard: http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/...al_717921.html

“In this terrible situation, let’s be very grateful that we had a well-funded, functioning government. It is very fashionable in America, and has been for some time to criticize government, belittle public employees, talk about their pensions, talk about what people think … of [their] health care. Here we saw government in two ways perform very well. … I never was as a member of Congress one of the cheerleaders for less government, lower taxes. No tax cut would have helped us deal with this or will help us recover. This is very expensive.”
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SuTF-...layer_embedded

It’s never too soon for politics, eh Barney?

My thoughts and prayers are with the people in Boston today, the residents, the runners, the crowds who came to cheer them on, and of course the first responders. I’ve had a few friends run the marathon and I found myself reaching out to them and telling them I was grateful they had decided not to run this particular year. As someone dear to me quipped in dark humor, “As if training and running a marathon isn’t hard enough, now there are bombs at the end!”

Sadly on Twitter within the hour of the bombs going off, the speculative blame game had already started. It used to be said that Americans always pull together in a crisis but I think ever since the media decided to blame a sitting president for a natural disaster known as Katrina, the model has forever changed. Now everything is looked at as a political liability or opportunity. “Never let a crisis go to waste.” It’s incredibly depressing and enormously disgusting. I might suggest we start lobbying for IED free zones but I think it’s perhaps too soon.

We have read about explosions and bombings and maiming and murder all over the world. Brutal explosions planned by savages designed for maximum carnage are on our shores. Still, to paraphrase something Patton Oswald said that was flying around Facebook yesterday, such a slim percentage of lunatics and barbarians plan and execute such acts of savagery and yet, always, always, there are MORE people who run TO the explosions to help. May it always be so.
