    The JFK sex-scandal memoir

    4 explosive takeaways
By The Week's Editorial Staff | 7 hrs ago

A former White House intern claims to have engaged in an 18-month affair with the late president, and offers all the salacious details in her new book

A 69-year-old grandmother and retired church administrator has come forward with explicit details of an 18-month affair she claims to have carried on with President John F. Kennedy — when she was a 19-year-old intern at the White House. Mimi Alford recounts the salacious details in her "explosive" tell-all memoir Once Upon a Secret: My Affair with President John F. Kennedy and its Aftermath. In the book, which was released Wednesday, Alford says that she always called Kennedy "Mr. President," and that they never kissed on the lips. "The fact that I was being desired by the most famous and powerful man in America only amplified my feelings," she writes. "That's why I didn't say no to the president." Many experts are taking Alford's claims seriously: "I would tend toward accepting [the story] until it's proven otherwise," presidential historian Doug Wead tells ABC News.

Here, four of Alford's raciest claims:

    1. She lost her virginity in the first lady's bedroom
Four days into her internship, Alford claims that the president invited her for a midday swim at the White House pool, where he seduced her. Kennedy invited Alford to a party later that evening with aide Dave Powers and other young staffers, frequently refilling her drink before inviting her up to Mrs. Kennedy's bedroom, Alford claims. There, they had sex — her first time — after which Kennedy promptly returned the party. "I was in shock," she writes in an excerpt published by the New York Post. "He, on the other hand, was matter-of-fact, and acted as if what had just occurred was the most natural thing in the world."

    2. Alford was asked to service JFK's friends

"The affair isn't the only salacious story in the book," says Matt Negrin at ABC News. In another passage, Alford claims that Kennedy asked her to perform oral sex on Powers while they were in the pool. "The president swam over and whispered in my ear. 'Mr. Powers looks a little tense,' he said. 'Would you take care of it?'" Alford assented. "I'm ashamed to say that I did. …The president silently watched." At a Boston fundraiser attended by Ted Kennedy, Alford says the president asked, "Mimi, why don't you take care of my baby brother? He could stand a little relaxation." This time, she refused. "Absolutely not, Mr. President."

    3. He flew her around the country

Alford's internship only lasted a summer, but the affair continued when she returned to school at Wheaton College in Massachusetts. She alleges that JFK would call under the pseudonym "Michael Carter," and invite her to Washington to see him when Mrs. Kennedy was away. One such visit came during the defining moments of the Cuban missile crisis. Another was just days after Jackie had miscarried. Their final dalliance — during which Alford was engaged to be married — occurred in a New York hotel just seven days before the president was assassinated in Dallas.

    4. The president gave her drugs

Kennedy invited Alford to a "wild party" at Bing Crosby's desert ranch, and allegedly forced her to try amyl nitrate — better known as "poppers." The chemical compound raises the heart rate, and is The JFK sex-scandal memoir: 4 explosive takeaways

Easy to make all kinds of claims nearly 50 years later. No reason to either believe or disbelieve. The real question is: are you entertained?

    ...

No news here. Everybody who has paid attention in the past several decades already knew this sort of stuff went on in the Kennedy White House.

    ...

...And we need to know all this why?

    ...

when they don't kiss on the lips that means you are just a hooker.

    ...

David Powers also wrangled Judith Exner for JFK. The Kennedys were a pack of womanizing sleazebags who got a complete pass via the Camelot mythology perpetuated by the media. Ted, the "lion of the Senate" took a nice long nap before reporting that he drowned a girl.

    ...

This is disgusting! All this woman is looking for is a chance to sell a sleazy book with no way to prove her story on a man who's been dead almost half a century. She is using her sleaze to get on all the talk shows and profit from it.

UMMMM, so a green, virginal young girl knew how to do a wonderful blow job the first time after losing her virginity? OKAYYYYY.

I wonder if she would even get attention if she didn't age well? Turned out to be fat and homely. I think I would have an easier time believing her if she wasn't so much an expert in the sex department at age 18 and first time.

Janelle, why is it that you think that everyone has had the same experiences that you've had. Not to get too personal, but I knew what I was doing the first time., I'm sure alot of girls knew what to do their first time. Just like some girls hate doing it....some girls love doing it and go at it with gusto!

Remember they are talking about the 60s. We didn't have manuals and movies to show us back then. LOL And anyway I don't know how anyone can just jump into bed and go at it the first time. Most report fumbling around for awhile.

This happened almost 50 years ago so why now, all of a sudden, do you feel the need to write a book about it? IMHO I would have kept that secret to myself. No way would I want my children/grandchildren to ever know about this. Then again that's just me.

'People' Helps Spin the 'Heroic Story' of Rosemary Kennedy's Lobotomy
    By Tim Graham | November 10, 2014

The November 17 edition of People magazine includes a promotional article for Timothy Shriver’s new book Fully Alive, focusing on “The Forgotten Kennedy,” the lobotomized Rosemary Kennedy, sister to Jack, Bobby and Teddy. "Why are we hiding from this story?" he asked himself, according to People’s Liz O’Neil. "There's nothing to fear here. It's a human story. It's a heroic story.”

    Heroically lobotomized and institutionalized?

Apparently, this fiasco was “the true inspiration for his famous family’s love of service.”

Or she was the “secret shame” that showed how she would be (and could be) hidden from the public by the Kennedy family and their cooperative liberal media myth-makers.

As 'People' explained, “The third of Joseph P. Kennedy and Rose’s children, Rosemary was born mentally disabled in 1918 and after undergoing a botched lobotomy at age 23, was hidden from public view and cared for by nuns in a Wisconsin Catholic institution until her death at 2005 at age 86.” T

This is how Shriver described the lobotomy:
The procedure itself was chilling. The surgeons inserted an instrument shaped like a butter knife into the skull. Then they swung the knife up and down, severing the frontal lobe’s connection to the rest of the brain. Patients were kept mostly conscious during the operation, so the surgeons could gauge how deeply to cut based on the patient’s ability to answer questions. When a patient’s responses became disoriented and incoherent, they normally stopped cutting.

The outcome, in Rosemary’s case, was devastating. After a few weeks, it became apparent that she had been robbed of her speech and of significant cognitive capacity. She became severely limited in her ability to process and recall information. Her mobility was damaged. She lost her independence for the rest of her life.
So she was hidden from the public:
Stoic but shattered by the results of his decision, he [Joe Kennedy Sr.] would never visit her there or – as far as I can tell – see her for the rest of his life. For years, her siblings did not even know what had happened to her. Members of her family were in such a flurry of activity and grieving other losses at the time that they apparently never questioned one sister’s absence until much later. The code of secrecy kicked in and Rosemary disappeared.

Shriver’s really spinning here. Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. was killed in action in 1944, three years after the lobotomy, and Kathleen Kennedy was killed in a plane crash in 1948. But the better explanation for the cone of silence was Papa Kennedy’s interest in running for president, and if that wasn’t viable, working on his sons being elected. (John F. Kennedy was first elected to the House in 1946.)

The family did not even admit Rosemary was institutionalized until after JFK was elected in 1961. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/wo...y-6154854.html The liberal media are always willing to help Democrats negotiate those “rough patches” like lobotomizing a presidential sibling.

The pull quote in People was Shriver claiming
"My mother [Eunice Kennedy Shriver, Rosemary's sister] was furious that people were so mean and indifferent and sort of dismissive about her sister."
But who was more indifferent and dismissive than the whole Kennedy clan, who refused to visit Rosemary for many years?

Online at People.com, Shriver's pro-Kennedy spin was worse than what was excerpted in the magazine: "I don't know how other than just from sheer devastation he [Joe Sr.] could allow her to disappear so much from his life," Shriver says. "He had to be destroyed by it. That's the only way I can explain it. It's an incredibly heartbreaking story of a dad trying to help his daughter and hurting her. What could be worse?"

Maybe her father was an ambitious monster? That spin is apparently not allowed.
