i do not think a person on welfare should be able to buy luxury items such as liquor, gambling, vacations etc and including high priced food such as lobster and filet mignon since these items are not necessarily attainable by those who do work. medicaid is not fully funded by the federal government but also by the states and if you want to be technical it is funded by working americans or retired american who have an income because that is how the federal government and states get the money to hand out to lower or no income alleged americans (since even obama's aunt is to alleged to have received government benefits even though she was in the country illegally).

Food stamps are meant to SUPPLEMENT a budget and provide TEMPORARY ASSISTANCE.... NOT PROVIDE A PERMANENT LIFESTYLE.

Maine Just Put Welfare Leeches In Their Place,
Every American Needs To See What Happened Next

By Jason DeWitt on April 9, 2015

Governor Paul LePage of Maine isn’t running for president in 2016. But perhaps he should be.

Because he is doing in Maine exactly what Americans want to see — but what other candidates are not even talking about.

Last November, just one week after his re-election, LePage did something unusual — he made good on a major campaign promise, by slashing funds for cities who give welfare to illegal aliens. The policy has already had a huge impact, with illegals fleeing in droves, and Democrat mayors having to defend giving handouts to illegal invaders before angry voters.

Now, just 6 months later, LePage is making good on another promise: to put an end to welfare leeches in his state once and for all.

The results are something every American should see — an EPIC victory. and Democrats are FURIOUS.

Governor LePage passed a measure last year that requires recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistant Program to complete a certain number of work, job-training, or volunteer hours in order to be eligible for assistance. The new requirement has resulted in a dramatic decline in food stamp enrollment, resulting in a logical win-win for all of Maine.

At the end of 2014 the enrollment count for SNAP was approximately 12,000 individuals. Now that individuals have to complete either 20 hours of part-time work a week, volunteer for at least 24 hours per month, or get involved in a vocational program, the amount of SNAP recipients has dramatically dropped from 12,000 to approximately 2,500 by the end of March — a nearly 80% reduction in welfare.

The drop in numbers exceeded Republicans’ expectations by leaps and bounds.

Instead of just giving welfare applicants an easy way out, Maine is forcing people to explore every opportunity for employment before allowing capable adults to take advantage of the system and the people of Maine.

Of course Democrats are insisting that the program targets those in poverty or rural areas but their argument is invalid. The individuals benefiting from the new food-stamp law are the ones who really need the assistance and aren’t just lazy parasites to society who suck the vitality out of American taxes.

This is a huge victory for the Republicans of Maine and of course the sore loser Democrats are trying to tarnish the reformation’s success. Democrats are urging for special measures to ease back on some of the new requirements because they are too strict. However, their response is ill-fated because even if the requirements loosen up, once someone is removed from Maine’s food stamp program, it will be another three years before they can receive benefits again from the program.

Maine was one of eight other states that took similar measures and declined a federal waiver for the new rule that requires welfare recipients to get off their behinds and contribute to society like everyone else.

This huge drop in the number of able-bodied welfare leeches after forcing them to work for their needs proves everything we’ve ever reported about welfare abusers. They’re only looking for the next handout.

Now if only we could get every American governor to do what Paul LePage is doing — against both illegal aliens, and welfare leeches — we might well save our nation.

there are some people collecting who have jobs off the books and it is quite possible that in their busy work schedule they cannot find the time to work on the books part time or volunteer! some states make it easier than others to collect benefits without having to prove their need. not only is this against the law but they are cheating the people who truly need it. the cell phone program is no different because supposedly there can only be one phone for qualified families but i recall reports of people getting a multitude of these phones, using some for themselves and selling others. trouble is government is no efficient and does not enforce the laws - they take the easy way out and just hand things out." every government and government department needs a LePage!

a prime example is how maine is doing their job: "Last November, just one week after his re-election, LePage did something unusual — he made good on a major campaign promise, by slashing funds for cities who give welfare to illegal aliens. The policy has already had a huge impact, with illegals fleeing in droves, and Democrat mayors having to defend giving handouts to illegal invaders before angry voters." I congratulate

excellent article. last i heard when you first join the work force, you normally do not go to the top positions. many politicians have interns who do not get paid but they do it because it gives them experience and when the time comes when they are job hunting this shines on a resume and gives them a step up in getting a job. I know a couple who belong to 2 different churches and both churches have food pantries but the days they are open are different so that as a couple they help out at both churches. she told me she got a shock when she would see the same people at both churches and as a retired teacher she knew some of the people. a few proudly volunteered the fact that they visit all the surrounding food pantries and even have a schedule so that they do not miss out on any of them. another friend at another church observed the cars that came to pick of food and she was envious because she could not afford such nice cars. i have read in the paper of stores getting caught buying the food stamps at a fraction of the cost and reselling them. yes, there are ppl who need the assistance and deserve it. they are people who are disabled who may not be able to physically or mental volunteer and they deserve the assistance. of course on the other hand, too many others take advantage of a system that finds it easier to just hand out free items. there was a radio interview in texas where a woman proudly announced how much she made collecting all her 'benefits' and scoffed at her friends who were working 2 jobs and making less than her. there was also a study as to the value of these 'benefits' and in ny it came to a person getting the equivalency of $35000 tax free which could be over $50000 when you add in medical care without any co-pays or deductibles. I agree that those who are not disabled and collecting these benefits should volunteer because i think it would help their own self esteem and set a good example to their children. volunteers are needed at hospitals, schools, churches, libraries, food pantries, animal shelters, red cross, salvation army, political offices etc

eeeek! My Representative hires former Pizza Delivery Boys as his interns. I totally agree with that Governor of Maine, and you boopster.

I know some one who has a son and recently started receiving $2,300 from SSD, and $800 a month for SNAP, yet he's 22, and a heavy drug user, spends a lot of time in hospitals from overdoses, or in the slammer for 'barrowing things with no intend to give back - while the home owner isn't home.

Recently received an email from the Rep, to take a survey, because our Governor wants to test any one on, or requesting Welfare to take a Drug test.

YET the questions didn't indicate if IF they are users, will they be kicked out, or not allowed?

AND yet telling the recipient what they can not buy! I can't live without a cookie now and then... Where are my Chips Ahoy!

And you can treat your SNAP like a bank and withdraw from it? Who's moronic idea was to allow that?

Did this happened when the current thing and his family moved into the White House?

that rep by hiring unsavory characters creates a liability to the taxpayers should anything ilegal happen while that intern is working for him/her. Therefore not hiring such a person should not be deemed discriminatory even though some will feel that way. there are many businesses who do drug testing as a pre hiring requisite to safe guard themselves.

i think we all need a little treat but i am sure if they remove cookies as an approved item, someone could always bake them (love my fresh from the oven toll house cookies!) it is also possible they could program snap to allow a set amount for 'luxury items'. The one thing i find contradictory is that we have a white house who thinks they can dictate what students get in school (no chips ahoy!) but ignore how ppl on snap, who they claim need food guidance, are allowed free reign of what they buy.

should new restrictions apply to qualifying for snap, who would enforce it? as it is we have ppl voting who are not citizens and some who vote multiples times, people getting more than 1 per family free obama cellphones, ppl who get money back from the irs who file fraudulent claims for unqualified children who exist on paper only, etc

i was looking to see who was responsible for the lax terms for snap/ebt. here is a brief history http://www.snaptohealth.org/snap/the-history-of-snap/ . it looks like there was suppose to be a restructuring in 2012 but from what i have read, i have not heard of government taking control to make sure it is not abused.

Well, you never had to deal with Pizza Boy Delivery 1, or 2, or 3. We needed our Congressperson a few years back, and they stated they read every email, etc..

Most of that stuff they buy with SNAP stays at the store, but my cookies! Health reasons, no processed foods. Those people are very lucky.

    You offering home baked cookies!

It will be abused, they just haven't figured out how to do that yet, so people will vote for them, who legally cant.

Read that link, and as soon as I saw which President was responsible, I understood a lot more. He was NOT a nice President if you learn how he did things, twisted things. He stated the Progressive Party back then too. He was also responsible for Mt Rushmore, only when the original images were going to be replaced by passed Presidents, then the Federal government paid to have Mt Rushmore done - said no more money since they had all the busts done, not doing head to toe of them - need money to go else where to make me look good.

Then the trail of other Presidents...

    Thanks!

AND surplus foods from the commodities were the chosen foods to be 'given' - now how do Commodities tie in with the Stock Market? Inside info trading? gov't in control of that too? hmmm...

May be we all should register at the time of the election, instead of being pre-registered. I'm not registered until I get my butt down to the voting place, and prove who I am - IF they don't already know me, every itsy bitsy election.

Takes no time to do that, you enter, you sign in, show identification, drivers license, if moved bring new utility bill, or purchase of residence - since address does not match drivers license.

ya know, you can check how many times you voted, and for what/who, just by going to http://www.STATE YOU LIVE IN.com and look up elections.

I got po'd when it told who I voted for when it came to something higher then a Mayor, or dog catcher.

so sorry, it would be example: Tennessee.gov, Florida.gov, or Illinois.gov (good luck if Illinois - they keep everything under lock and key, and you pay for the info), just snoop around, you never know what you can discover, my mistake for using .com instead of .gov Only know about IL and FL, I have an uncle in Illinois who wanted to know the status on his daughters home, since she was getting a divorce. I used to be in Real Estate so I know how look for that stuff. Amazing what comes up.

AND probably for your friends, if you know their full name - or what name they vote under. Look for elections. From there, there may be other links you are looking for, discovered maybe my accident.

I discovered that a couple years ago when I couldn't wait for a final tally for the election, I went to the state's site to see who won, and discovered that.
