BEIJING – A state news agency says more than 100 villagers in eastern China have been poisoned by lead emissions from a battery plant built in a residential area.

The official Xinhua News Agency cited health and environmental authorities in Zhejiang province as saying Friday that tests showed that 139 people from three villages in Taizhou city had elevated lead levels. The sickened included 35 children.

The report says three villagers had lead levels three times the limit considered safe for humans. But none of the 501 villagers tested required hospitalization.

China is the world's largest producer and consumer of lead, a key component in lead-acid batteries needed for the growing number of vehicles in the country. New cases of lead poisoning regularly occur.

Correct me if I am wrong ( I am sure someone will ... ) but the lead acid batteries are in the new "electric" cars the Greenies are trying to get everyone to drive...

I always liked the environmental angle with Free Trade. You have US corporations relocate to countries that have little to no expensive environmental regulations, then ship the slave labor toxic junk back to the West, emitting huge amounts of that harmful CO2 to ship it.

You could also mention expensive Human Rights and Labor laws pushing US corporations out, to relocate to countries that have little to none of either. Yet the false "champions" of those never resisted Free Trade on any of these issues that they falsely champion. Those of us in the know, realize the false right vs left. The Democrats are champions of the revolution, the Republicans the champions of the fabian tactics of revolution. Since democratic communists hate "Tariffs" and love 'Democracy" place huge Democracy Tax on any country (like China) that is not a 'Democracy" That should level the playing field a bit.

China's rise can be directly tied to Free Trade which opened the door for US corporations to leave the US and its expensive environmental, quality control, human rights, and labor laws, and transfer US/Western Industrial technology to communist China creating the super polluting powerhouse that then ships the inferior slave labor toxic junk back to the US/Europe. You than can trace the modernization of the Chinese military (and the MFN, eventual WTO entry) directly to payments made to the RED DNC by Chinese communist agents massive campaign contributions. Chinese missiles could not hit a barn door before the Clinton/Gore regime, now they own us economically and perhaps militarily.
