Protesters destroy an American flag pulled down from the U.S. embassy in Cairo September 11, 2012. Egyptian protesters scaled the walls of the U.S. embassy on Tuesday, tore down the American flag and burned it during a protest over what they said was a film being produced in the United States that insulted Prophet Mohammad.

    U.S. Embassy Condemns Religious Incitement
    September 11, 2012

The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims – as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions. Today, the 11th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, Americans are honoring our patriots and those who serve our nation as the fitting response to the enemies of democracy. Respect for religious beliefs is a cornerstone of American democracy. We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others

Hurt feelings! Look, President Obama and the U.S. embassy: They want to kill us, stupid. Your insane thinking, which condones such barbarism by persisting in delusional moral equivalency is revolting. You are excusing anything and everything by taking away any culpability people have for their own actions. http://www.redstate.com/snarkandboob...-burned-koran/

It gets even worse. The embassy has a Twitter account. And the person running the account is beyond the appeasement pale.

    On 9/11 Anniversary, Cairo Mob Invades U.S. Embassy, Removes Flag, Flies Al Qaeda Banner;
    MSNBC Ignores Story

    By Ken Shepherd | September 11, 2012 | 18:13

Earlier today, an angry Cairo mob stormed the U.S. embassy, ripped down the American flag, and flew in its place a black al Qaeda banner. The mob is reportedly angered about a documentary film that supposedly offends Muslim religious sensibilities with critiques of the Prophet Muhammad.

While CNN and Fox News have both mentioned the developing story, MSNBC has not as of the time of this publication, a review of our DVR systems shows.

U.S. embassy officials have reported issue a condemnation, not of the mob which stormed the embassy, but of filmmakers who dare to criticize Islam. From CNN.com: http://www.cnn.com/2012/09/11/world/...sts/index.html

U.S. embassy officials issued a warning to Americans in Egypt, telling them to avoid the demonstrations which "may gather in front of the U.S. Embassy, or Egyptian government buildings such as the People's Assembly and Ministry of Interior."

"It is unclear if large numbers will take to the streets, but clashes may occur should two opposing groups come into contact with one another," the embassy said in a statement. "Large gatherings and non-essential travel in and around Downtown and Garden City should be avoided this afternoon."

The U.S. Embassy said that it "condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims -- as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions."

"Respect for religious beliefs is a cornerstone of American democracy," the statement said. "We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others.
The embassy attack was covered by CNN this afternoon starting in the 1 p.m. Eastern hour. It appears Fox News didn't get to the story until the 5 p.m. Eastern The Five program, when it was mentioned by co-host Greg Gutfeld around 5:06 p.m. and again by Bret Baier at the bottom of the hour as he teased stories forthcoming on the evening's edition of Special Report.

US ambassador killed in consulate attack in Libya
By ESAM MOHAMED and MAGGIE MICHAEL

Associated Press TRIPOLI, Libya (AP) - The U.S. ambassador to Libya and three American members of his staff were killed in the attack on the U.S. consulate in the eastern city of Benghazi by protesters angry over a film that ridiculed Islam's Prophet Muhammad, Libyan officials said Wednesday.

They said Ambassador Chris Stevens was killed Tuesday night when he and a group of embassy employees went to the consulate to try to evacuate staff as the building came under attack by a mob guns and rocket propelled grenades.

The three Libyan officials who confirmed the deaths were deputy interior minister for eastern Libya Wanis al-Sharaf; Benghazi security chief Abdel-Basit Haroun; and Benghazi city council and security official Ahmed Bousinia.

The State Department said Tuesday that one American was killed in the attack. It has not confirmed the other deaths.

The attack on the Benghazi consulate took place as hundreds of protesters in neighboring Egypt scaled the walls of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo and tore down and replaced the American flag with a black Islamic banner.

The attacks in Benghazi and Cairo were the first such assaults on U.S. diplomatic facilities in either country, at a time when both Libya and Egypt are struggling to overcome the turmoil following the ouster of their longtime authoritarian leaders, Moammar Gadhafi and Hosni Mubarak, in uprisings last year.

The protests in both countries were sparked by outrage over a film ridiculing Muhammad produced by an Israeli filmmaker living in California and being promoted by an extreme anti-Muslim Egyptian Christian campaigner in the United States. Excerpts from the film dubbed into Arabic were posted on YouTube.

Stevens, 52, was a career diplomat who spoke Arabic and French and had already served two tours in Libya, including running the office in Benghazi during the revolt against Gadhafi. He was confirmed as ambassador to Libya by the Senate earlier this year.

Before Tuesday, five U.S. ambassadors had been killed in the line of duty, the last being Adolph Dubs in Afghanistan in 1979, according to the State Department historian's office.

What a disgusting and disastrous, but wholly predictable, way to end this day. As you may have heard, the U.S. Embassy in Cairo chose the 11th anniversary of 9/11 to apologize for “hurt Muslim feelings” as radical Egyptian clerics stoked faux-rage over an obscure documentary attacking Islamic extremism. The Obama administration’s mortifying apology, of course, did not mollify the Muslim agitators. Appeasement has never mollified the practitioners of the Religion of Perpetual Outrage.

Naturally, the Muslim mob stormed the Embassy compound, anyway — and the pretextual violence spread to Libya, where an American State Department worker was killed today. http://twitchy.com/2012/09/11/armed-...ology-pending/ The feckless State Department has deleted its groveling tweet and the White House is in pathetic damage control mode. http://twitchy.com/2012/09/11/us-emb...-apology-tweet

Let’s cut through the diplomatic blather and Obama State Department’s p.c. charade. This isn’t about ordinary Egyptian Muslims being offended by Koran-burning or some genuine outcry for religious tolerance or widespread anger over how Mohammed is being portrayed. It’s about Egyptian imams and Muslim Brotherhood propagandists concocting any excuse for a violent anti-Western conflagration.

    Look with your eyes: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...LEFTTopStories

Though the film was the focus of demonstrators’ outrage, the spirited protest amounted to more of a general outpouring of grievances against U.S. policy in the Islamic world. Several signs and chants decried the U.S.-led invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as American support for Israel.

Many recalled the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, that killed thousands of U.S. citizens 11 years earlier.

“Obama! Obama! We are all Osama!” went one chant, referring to Osama bin Laden, the late head of Al Qaeda, the militant Islamist organization widely believed to be responsible for the 9/11 attacks.
I’m reprinting my 9/11 remembrance column from two years ago as a refresher course on the “Islamic Rage Boy” phenomenon. He represents the professional Muslim grievance-monger, always at the ready to protest whatever manufactured insult could be exploited to curse the West. The late Christopher Hitchens wrote on the futility of appeasing the worldwide Rage Boy mob — a theme I’ve struck here for years, and which bears repeating again.

Lest you need reminding: 9/11 was a deliberate, carefully planned evil act of the long-waged war on the West by Koran-inspired soldiers of Allah around the world. They hated us before George W. Bush was in office. They hated us before Israel existed. And the avengers of the religion of perpetual outrage will keep hating us no matter how much we try to appease them. The post-9/11 problem isn’t whether we’ll forget. The problem is: Will we ever learn?

The eternal flame of Muslim outrage
    by Michelle Malkin

Shhhhhhh, we’re told. Don’t protest the Ground Zero mosque. Don’t burn a Koran. It’ll imperil the troops. It’ll inflame tensions. The “Muslim world” will “explode” if it does not get its way, warns sharia-peddling imam Feisal Abdul Rauf. Pardon my national security-threatening impudence, but when is the “Muslim world” not ready to “explode”?

At the risk of provoking the ever-volatile Religion of Perpetual Outrage, let us count the little-noticed and forgotten ways.

Just a few months ago in Kashmir, faithful Muslims rioted over what they thought was a mosque depicted on underwear sold by street vendors. http://www.sananews.net/english/2010...sphemy-rumour/ The mob shut down businesses and clashed with police over the blasphemous skivvies. But it turned out there was no need for Allah’s avengers to get their holy knickers in a bunch. The alleged mosque was actually a building resembling London’s St. Paul’s Cathedral. A Kashmiri law enforcement official later concluded the protests were “premeditated and organized to vitiate the atmosphere.” http://www.hindustantimes.com/Underw...e1-553677.aspx

Indeed, art and graphics have an uncanny way of vitiating the Muslim world’s atmosphere. In 1994, Muslims threatened German supermodel Claudia Schiffer with death after she wore a Karl Lagerfeld-designed dress printed with a saying from the Koran. http://www.meforum.org/395/the-rushdie-rules In 1997, outraged Muslims forced Nike to recall 800,000 shoes because they claimed the company’s “Air” logo looked like the Arabic script for “Allah.” http://www.danielpipes.org/blog/2005...nlikely-places In 1998, another conflagration spread over Unilever’s ice cream logo — which Muslims claimed looked like “Allah” if read upside-down and backward (can’t recall what they said it resembled if you viewed it with 3D glasses).

Even more explosively, in 2002, an al-Qaida-linked jihadist cell plotted to blow up Bologna, Italy’s Church of San Petronio because it displayed a 15th century fresco depicting Mohammed being tormented in the ninth circle of Hell. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2002.../arts.artsnews For years, Muslims had demanded that the art come down. Counterterrorism officials in Europe caught the would-be bombers on tape scouting out the church and exclaiming, “May Allah bring it all down. It will all come down.”

That same year, Nigerian Muslims stabbed, bludgeoned or burned to death 200 people in protest of the Miss World beauty pageant — which they considered an affront to Allah. They shouted, “Allahu Akbar!” And “Down with beauty!” And “Miss World is sin!” Contest organizers fled out of fear of inflaming further destruction. When Nigerian journalist Isioma Daniel joked that Mohammed would have approved of the pageant and that “in all honesty, he would probably have chosen a wife from among them,” her newspaper rushed to print three retractions and apologies in a row. It didn’t stop Muslim vigilantes from torching the newspaper’s offices. A fatwa was issued on Daniel’s life by a Nigerian official in the sharia-ruled state of Zamfara, who declared that “the blood of Isioma Daniel can be shed. It is abiding on all Muslims wherever they are to consider the killing of the writer as a religious duty.” Daniel fled to Norway.

In 2005, British Muslims got all hot and bothered over a Burger King ice cream cone container whose swirly-texted label resembled, you guessed it, the Arabic script for “Allah.” The restaurant chain yanked the product in a panic and prostrated itself before the Muslim world. But the fast-food dessert had already become a handy radical Islamic recruiting tool. Rashad Akhtar, a young British Muslim, told Harper’s Magazine how the ice cream caper had inspired him: “Even though it means nothing to some people and may mean nothing to some Muslims in this country, this is my jihad. I’m not going to rest until I find the person who is responsible. I’m going to bring this country down.”

In 2007, Muslims combusted again in Sudan after an infidel elementary school teacher innocently named a classroom teddy bear “Mohammed.” Protesters chanted, “Kill her, kill her by firing squad!” and “No tolerance — execution!” She was arrested, jailed and faced 40 lashes for blasphemy before being freed after eight days. Not wanting to cause further inflammation, the teacher rushed to apologize: “I have great respect for the Islamic religion and would not knowingly offend anyone, and I am sorry if I caused any distress.”

And who could forget the global Danish cartoon riots of 2006 (instigated by imams who toured Egypt stoking hysteria with faked anti-Islam comic strips)? From Afghanistan to Egypt to Lebanon to Libya, Pakistan, Turkey and in between, hundreds died under the pretext of protecting Mohammed from Western slight, and brave journalists who stood up to the madness were threatened with beheading. It wasn’t really about the cartoons at all, of course. Little-remembered is the fact that Muslim bullies were attempting to pressure Denmark over the International Atomic Energy Agency’s decision to report Iran to the UN Security Council for continuing with its nuclear research program. The chairmanship of the council was passing to Denmark at the time. Yes, it was just another in a long line of manufactured Muslim explosions that were, to borrow a useful phrase, “premeditated and organized to vitiate the atmosphere.”

When everything from sneakers to stuffed animals to comics to frescos to beauty queens to fast-food packaging to undies serves as dry tinder for Allah’s avengers, it’s a grand farce to feign concern about the recruitment effect of a few burnt Korans in the hands of a two-bit attention-seeker in Florida. The eternal flame of Muslim outrage was lit a long, long time ago.

Charles Krauthammer: Tell Egyptian mob “go to hell”
    September, 11, 2012 — nicedeb

One American is dead after angry mob of Islamist liners attacked the US consulate in Benghazi during a protest over a film about Mohammed that was made in the USA.

    The Herald Sun reported: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/wor...-1226472275723

Nearly 3000 demonstrators, most of them hardline Islamist supporters of the Salafist movement or football fans, gathered at the embassy in protest over a film deemed offensive to the Prophet Mohammed which was produced by expatriate members of Egypt’s Christian minority resident in the United States.

Women wearing the niqab, the full-face veil worn by hardline Islamists, joined the rally chanting: “Sons of the Cross, anything but our beloved Mohammed.”

The film at the centre of anti-US protests in the Middle East was made by an Israeli-American who describes Islam as a ”cancer”, the Wall Street Journal says.

The movie, Innocence of Muslims, was directed and produced by Sam Bacile, a 52-year-old real-estate developer from southern California who says Islam is a hateful religion. ”Islam is a cancer,” Bacile told the newspaper.

He was speaking after protesters tore down the American flag at the US embassy in Cairo in protest at the film.

Bacile told the paper on Tuesday he was responsible for the film, saying he had raised $US5 million ($A4.81 million) to make it from about 100 Jewish donors, who he declined to identify.
So. A US Embassy sacked with one American dead (4 Americans dead, see update) – on 9/11, no less – because a mob of degenerate fascists doesn’t like what someone said about their religion in a movie? Wow.

And the United States under this weak, pusillanimous regime does what? It bows to the mob.

It doesn’t stick up for American values like free speech and freedom of religion. According to this patently unAmerican regime, free speech is “abusive” when it “hurts the feelings” of the perpetually outraged. And respect for religion means groveling before an insane, murderous, black al Qaeda flag-waving mob on 9/11: “We’re sorry – we’re so so sorry we hurt your feelings…please don’t hurt us..”:

The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims – as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions. Today, the 11th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, Americans are honoring our patriots and those who serve our nation as the fitting response to the enemies of democracy. Respect for religious beliefs is a cornerstone of American democracy. We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others.
An attack on our embassy that kills Americans could rightly be considered an act of war, and we are in a crouching, defensive, self-flagellating position?

The left can take their “smart power” and shove it.

    UPDATE:

Make that four Americans dead. http://nicedeb.wordpress.com/2012/09...het%20Mohammad

Yesterday, Islamist radicals not only attacked our U.S. Embassy in Benghazi they murdered our U.S. Ambassador and three of his staff members, who were also U.S. citizens. Two of the staff members were US Marines who died defending the embassy.
    Reuters reported,

The U.S. ambassador to Libya and three other embassy staff were killed in a rocket attack on their car, a Libyan official said, as they were rushed from a consular building stormed by militants denouncing a U.S.-made film insulting the Prophet Mohammad.

Update: Fox News just reported U.S. Ambassador Stephens was suffocated and the other three Americans were shot.

The creeping Obama legacy of Islamization – read it all at Investors.com http://news.investors.com/articlepri...o-mideast.aspx

2009: The Brotherhood’s spiritual leader — Sheikh Yusuf Qaradawi — writes an open letter to Obama arguing terrorism is a direct response to U.S. foreign policy.

2009: Obama travels to Cairo to deliver apologetic speech to Muslims, and infuriates the Mubarak regime by inviting banned Brotherhood leaders to attend. Obama deliberately snubs Mubarak, who was neither present nor mentioned. He also snubs Israel during the Mideast trip.

2009: Obama appoints a Brotherhood-tied Islamist — Rashad Hussain — as U.S. envoy to the Organization of the Islamic Conference, which supports the Brotherhood.

2010: State Department lifts visa ban on Tariq Ramadan, suspected terrorist and Egyptian-born grandson of Brotherhood founder Hassan al-Banna.

2010: Hussain meets with Ramadan at American-sponsored conference attended by U.S. and Brotherhood officials.

2010: Hussain meets with the Brotherhood’s grand mufti in Egypt.

2010: Obama meets one-on-one with Egypt’s foreign minister, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, who later remarks on Nile TV: “The American president told me in confidence that he is a Muslim.”

2010: The Brotherhood’s supreme guide calls for jihad against the U.S.

2011: Qaradawi calls for “days of rage” against Mubarak and other pro-Western regimes throughout Mideast.

2011: Riots erupt in Cairo’s Tahrir Square. Crowds organized by the Brotherhood demand Mubarak’s ouster, storm buildings.

2011: The White House fails to back longtime ally Mubarak, who flees Cairo.

2011: White House sends intelligence czar James Clapper to Capitol Hill to whitewash the Brotherhood’s extremism. Clapper testifies the group is moderate, “largely secular.”

2011: Qaradawi, exiled from Egypt for 30 years, is given a hero’s welcome in Tahrir Square, where he raises the banner of jihad.

2011: Through his State Department office, William Taylor — Clinton’s special coordinator for Middle East transitions and a longtime associate of Brotherhood apologists —gives Brotherhood and other Egyptian Islamists special training to prepare for the post-Mubarak elections.

2011: The Brotherhood wins control of Egyptian parliament, vows to tear up Egypt’s 30-year peace treaty with Israel and reestablishes ties with Hamas, Hezbollah.

2011: Obama gives Mideast speech demanding Israel relinquish land to Palestinians, while still refusing to visit Israel.

2011: Justice Department pulls plug on further prosecution of U.S.-based Brotherhood front groups identified as collaborators in conspiracy to funnel millions to Hamas.

2011: In a shocking first, the State Department formalizes ties with Egypt’s Brotherhood, letting diplomats deal directly with Brotherhood party officials in Cairo.

April 2012: The administration quietly releases $1.5 billion in foreign aid to the new Egyptian regime.

June 2012: Morsi wins presidency amid widespread reports of electoral fraud and voter intimidation by gun-toting Brotherhood thugs — including blockades of entire streets to prevent Christians from going to the polls. The Obama administration turns a blind eye, recognizes Morsi as victor.

June 2012: In a victory speech, Morsi vows to instate Shariah law, turning Egypt into an Islamic theocracy, and also promises to free jailed terrorists. He also demands Obama free World Trade Center terrorist and Brotherhood leader Omar Abdel-Rahman, a.k.a. the Blind Sheik, from U.S. prison.

June 2012: State grants visa to banned Egyptian terrorist who joins a delegation of Brotherhood officials from Egypt. They’re all invited to the White House to meet with Obama’s deputy national security adviser, who listens to their demands for the release of the Blind Sheik.

July 2012: Obama invites Morsi to visit the White House this September.

The Muslim Brotherhood’s sudden ascendancy in the Mideast didn’t happen organically. It was helped along by a U.S. president sympathetic to its interests over those of Israel and his own country.

SOUND FAMILIAR? Our embassy in Cairo was easily overrun because our Marines were barred from carrying live ammo to defend it! Remember that the night Agent BRIAN TERRY was murdered by an AK-47 (that Eric Holder sold to his Mexican cartel killer), Terry and his men were ordered to use 'BEAN BAG' ROUNDS, instead of bullets (http://fxn.ws/hxDze0). And in Libya, we learned today that intelligence reports warned Obama of threats to our embassies on Sept. 4th, yet he did NOTHING to defend (late) Ambassador Chris Stephens from the threat. Despicable beyond comprehension. And all the press can do is slam....Romney? The desperate ObamaMedia is circling the wagons to protect the Great Pretender. They won't tell people the truth. It is up to US to get that truth to everyone we know. So **SHARE THIS WIDELY**

REPORTS: No Live Ammo for Marines
Marine blogs say U.S. embassy did not authorize service members to carry ammo
    BY: Adam Kredo
    September 13, 2012 1:20 pm

U.S. Marines defending the American embassy in Egypt were not permitted by the State Department to carry live ammunition, limiting their ability to respond to attacks like those this week on the U.S. consulate in Cairo.

Ambassador to Egypt Anne Patterson “did not permit U.S. Marine guards to carry live ammunition,” according to multiple reports on U.S. Marine Corps blogs spotted by Nightwatch. “She neutralized any U.S. military capability that was dedicated to preserve her life and protect the US Embassy.”

U.S. officials have yet to confirm or comment on the reports. Time magazine’s Battleland blog reported Thursday “Senior U.S. officials late Wednesday declined to discuss in detail the security at either Cairo or Benghazi, so answers may be slow in coming.”

If true, the reports indicate that Patterson shirked her obligation to protect U.S. interests, Nightwatch states.

“She did not defend U.S. sovereign territory and betrayed her oath of office,” the report states. “She neutered the Marines posted to defend the embassy, trusting the Egyptians over the Marines.”

While Marines are typically relied on to defend U.S. territory abroad, such as embassies, these reports indicate that the Obama administration was relying on Egypt’s new Muslim Brotherhood-backed government to ensure American security, a move observers are questioning as violence in Cairo continues to rage.

Marc Toner, the State Department’s deputy spokesperson, did not respond to a request for comment from the Free Beacon. White House National Security Council spokesperson Tommy Vietor also did not respond to a request for comment.

The U.S. ambassador to any nation ultimately decides whether Marines are authorized to carry ammunition, according to a GOP national security adviser knowledgeable about American embassy protocols.

“In the end, the ambassador of any country has the final call on what to do in a country,” the source said. “The buck stops with you. You make every decision.”

Security procedures are subjective and subject to change depending on locale, the source said.

Each ambassador, in consultation with their Regional Security Officer (RSO), sets the policy regarding the rules of engagement, according to the adviser. The RSO is responsible for coordinating all security measures and reports directly to the ambassador in any given nation.

“A decision or order to set rules of engagement that you can’t carry live ammunition and can’t engage violent crowds climbing over your walls and tearing down your flag stems from direct orders from the Chief of Mission and possibly whoever the Chief of Mission reports to,” the source explained.

Given that the siege of the Cairo embassy unfolded over many hours, the source wondered if new orders pertaining to the rules of engagement were ever issued.

Ambassador Anne Patterson was in D.C. during the attacks, according to reports.

“I cannot believe that over an eight hour period that nobody … in that chain of command did not ask those questions of their superiors,” the source said. “These protestors did not just appear and within 20 minutes climb the wall.”

The Free Beacon will continue to update this report as events warrant.

Obama warns Egypt: Are you ally or enemy?
By Olivier Knox, Yahoo! News | The Ticket – 3 hrs ago.

to the way the fledgling government in Cairo responds to the violent assault on the American Embassy there on Monday.

"Certainly in this situation what we're going to expect is that they are responsive to our insistence that our embassy is protected, our personnel is protected," Obama said. "And if they take actions that indicate they're not taking responsibilities, as all other countries do where we have embassies, I think that's going to be a real big problem."

The president—his handling of the so-called "Arab Spring" under fresh scrutiny after attacks on American diplomatic posts in Egypt, Libya and Yemen—had been asked by Telemundo whether he sees Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi's government as an ally.

"I don't think that we would consider them an ally, but we don't consider them an enemy. They're a new government that is trying to find its way," Obama replied in what, by the standards of diplomatic talk, amounted to a blunt warning.

"They were democratically elected. I think that we are going to have to see how they respond to this incident. How they respond to, for example, maintaining the peace treaty with Israel," he added.

"So far, at least, what we've seen is that in some cases they've said the right things and taken the right steps. In others, how they've responded to various events may not be aligned with our interests," Obama said. "So I think it's still a work in progress."

Under ousted President Hosni Mubarak, Egypt benefited from close ties to Washington, including tight military-to-military relations and vast aid packages topping $1 billion per year, making Cairo one of the top recipients of American assistance. That relationship changed when Mubarak was overthrown amid mass protests, and Washington has been closely watching Morsi's government. The incident on Monday, in which demonstrators stormed the American Embassy compound and tore down the American flag, was the latest flash point—and an obvious test for both U.S.-Egypt relations and Obama's efforts to defend American interests in the volatile aftermath of the Arab Spring.

Obama and Morsi spoke by telephone on Wednesday "to review the strategic relationship" between the two countries "and our ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral economic and security cooperation," the White House said in a statement. On Thursday, the Egyptian leader condemned the assault on the American facility.

"Given recent events, and consistent with our interest in a relationship based on mutual interests and mutual respect, President Obama underscored the importance of Egypt following through on its commitment to cooperate with the United States in securing U.S. diplomatic facilities and personnel," the White House said.

Amid concerns that an anti-Islam video on the Internet may be fueling unrest in the Muslim world, Obama "said that he rejects efforts to denigrate Islam, but underscored that there is never any justification for violence against innocents and acts that endanger American personnel and facilities."

Morsi "expressed his condolences for the tragic loss of American life in Libya and emphasized that Egypt would honor its obligation to ensure the safety of American personnel."

Obama also spoke to President Mohamed Magariaf of Libya late Wednesday, even as Americans reeled from word that the highly regarded ambassador to Libya, Chris Stevens, had been killed as a result of a raid on the consulate in that country's city of Benghazi.

"President Obama thanked President Magariaf for extending his condolences for the tragic deaths of Ambassador Chris Stevens, Sean Smith, and two other State Department officers in Benghazi yesterday," the White House said. Obama thanked Magariaf for his government's help in responding to that attack but underlined "that the Libyan government must continue to work with us to assure the security of our personnel going forward."

"The president made it clear that we must work together to do whatever is necessary to identify the perpetrators of this attack and bring them to justice," the White House said.

On the homefront, Obama waged a pitched political battle with Mitt Romney, who drew fire even from some in his party for a late-Tuesday statement in which he leveled the inflammatory charge that the Obama administration had sided with those who killed Americans. Romney essentially reiterated that accusation in a Wednesday press conference held after news of Stevens' death had become public.

But if Romney blundered with his response, the crisis highlighted the danger that sudden world events could pose to Obama's re-election bid—even in a contest most heavily shaped by the sour economy.

Un-mourned casualty of Obama’s bus: The First Amendment
    By Michelle Malkin • September 13, 2012 11:30 AM

I told you the gobsmackingly obvious at the very outset of these latest pretextual jihadi outbreaks across the Middle East: It’s not about the dumb Internet movie or the marginal Pastor Terry Jones. They hated us before these excuses. They hated us before George W. Bush took office. They hated us before Israel came into existence. They hate us not because of what we might draw, broadcast, burn, wear, or say. They hate us because our very existence as infidels insults Allah. And you know what must happen to those who insult Allah. OFF WITH THEIR HEADS.

But the tools in the media and the dhimmis in our government have swallowed the blame-the-manufactured-insult-of-the-day narrative whole. And like the U.S. Embassy in Cairo that sacrificed basic American values in a futile attempt to mollify the gathering mob, panicked journalists, foolish academics, and government officials are throwing the First Amendment under the bus.

    FNC’s Todd Starnes reported yesterday:
    http://radio.foxnews.com/toddstarnes...rs-speech.html

Some First Amendment experts believe the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff crossed a line by asking a Florida pastor to withdraw his support for an anti-Islam film that may have played a role in inciting protesters who attacked U.S. diplomatic posts in Libya and Egypt.

Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs, spoke with Pastor Terry Jones by telephone Wednesday morning to voice his concerns.

“Gen. Dempsey expressed his concern over the nature of the film and the tensions it would enflame and the violence it would case,” Pentagon spokesman Col. Dave Lapan told Fox News. “He asked Pastor Jones to withdraw his support for the film.” Lapan said the phone call was cordial but said Jones would not commit to pulling his support.

Clay Calvert, director of the Marion B. Brechner First Amendment Project at the University of Florida, told Fox News the chairman’s behavior was heavy-handed.
“The fact that a very, very powerful government official is reaching down to a pastor in Florida asking him to censor his own speech – in the greater good – supposedly preventing further violence upon American officials abroad” is an issue, he said.

“Any time the government is involved we have a First Amendment question, especially when the government is asking an individual to stifle or to stop his speech,” Calvert said.

…Hiram Sasser, with Liberty Institute, also had concerns with how the chairman of the Joint Chiefs conducted himself. “Here we have the third most powerful person in the Armed Forces calling a citizen and asking them to take an action in regards to squelching their free speech,” he told Fox News. “That’s pretty drastic and extreme. I would interpret that as something more than a ‘polite ask from my neighbor.’”

…“No government official should be using their official position with the government to try to influence a citizen’s right to be able to have free speech – especially religious speech which is fully protected by the Constitution,” Sasser said.

This morning, AP reported that “law enforcement” helped track down one Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, a businessman tied to the film who has an admittedly shady past — but who is being treated like a criminal for making a crummy movie and faces a flood of death threats. http://blogs.laweekly.com/informer/2...arte_video.php

And now this: Egypt to take legal action in US against Prophet film makers. http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7...280756,00.html
Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi asked the Egyptian embassy in Washington to take legal action in the United States against makers of a film attacking the Muslim Prophet Mohammad, the official state news agency said on Wednesday.
O-ppeasement now and appeasement throughout history have never, never, never mollified bloodthirsty mobs masquerading as aggrieved peaceful protesters seeking “sensitivity.”

The silence of so-called progressives and American free speech advocates as this administration steamrolls over free speech to save its own hide is deafening.

Pelosi urges continuing aid to Egypt, but stops short of calling it an ‘ally’
By Chris Moody, Yahoo! News | The Ticket – 17 mins ago.

WASHINGTON -- House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi pushed back against calls within Congress to cut off foreign aid to Egypt after demonstrators stormed the U.S. Embassy in Cairo earlier this week, but stopped short of calling Egypt an "ally" of the United States.

"I think there has been a consensus that we cannot leave Egypt by the by. They're suggesting we should cut off assistance to Egypt," Pelosi, a California Democrat, said during a press conference on Capitol Hill Thursday. "I don't agree with that."

The federal government provided $1.3 billion in military aid to the country this year.

Pelosi, who began the press conference by honoring the American foreign service workers who were killed this week in Libya, condemned the attacks and "the cowards who perpetrated" them.

"The fact is that we really do have to help Egypt to go forward," she said. "I don't know about the word 'ally,' we'll see, but the fact is we have an interest in Egypt's success. Let's hope that we can do that as allies."

The U.S. has been giving Egypt 1.5 Billion a year......Hillery just wrote a 1 Billion dollar check to Hamas (Terrorist Organization)........Apparently they believe you can buy friends.

    ..

Stop all aid to the middle east. If they don't want to help themselves, why should we foot the bill? Tired of paying countries that hate us. We feed them, give them weapons, only to have them use their religious views to kill us and NEVER be punished for it.
Oh, someone disagreed with their religion....They mob up and kill an American.
Someone burned one of their religious books....They mob up and kill an American. You know what? SCREW THEM
You want your religious freedom? Then stop asking for aid when you get your butts handed to you by an even more religious neighbor. STOP ALL AID!!!!! Their government wants to sue the filmmaker here. Are you kidding me? Why don't you worry about your lunatic citizens and stop trying to change the subject.
NO ONE IN THE US cares about the stupid film. It's not even an issue here.
NO MORE AID TO THE MIDDLE EAST. LET THEM SETTLE THEIR OWN AFFAIRS.

    Dangerous incompetence: Obama skips intel meeting for Vegas, embassies not secure on 9/11;
    Where are media?

Posted at 4:28 pm on September 13, 2012 by Twitchy Staff

    RB@RBPundit

Can someone send me a link to ONE reporter actually asking the Obama administration why our embassies were barely secured on 9/11? #tcot

    12 Sep 12
Nope, sorry. They are far too busy coordinating attacks against Mitt Romney. http://twitchy.com/2012/09/12/journa...ney-questions/ Because ... http://twitchy.com/2012/09/12/contra...bassy-attacks/.

    (he said ironically)@AceofSpadesHQ

.@JanCBS do the four murders matter here or only as you can use them to suggest a Romney press statement lacked tact?

    12 Sep 12
Citizens, again doing the job that “real journalists” won’t do, are demanding answers after attacks on our embassies left four people dead.

    RB@RBPundit

Yesterday was 9/11. Are you telling me not one reporter has asked why security was non-existent at our embassies? #tcot #p2

    12 Sep 12
The rightful demand grows as more and more reports come in exposing Obama’s dangerous incompetence. It’s not just appalling statements from the U.S. embassy in Cairo, http://twitchy.com/2012/09/11/unreal...slim-feelings/ the Pentagon calling an American citizen in order to quash his free speech, http://twitchy.com/2012/09/12/what-f...-baciles-film/ or Obama declaring that Egypt is no longer an ally. http://twitchy.com/2012/09/13/obama-...russert-slams/

    It gets even worse.

President Obama continues to skip intelligence briefings, even skipping one a day after the attacks.

    Pam Besteder@pambesteder

GET THIS: Obama SKIPPED his intel briefing for a Vegas fundraiser the day after the Embassy attack. washingtonpost.com/opinions/marc-…

Obama skipped an intel briefing yesterday instead of rescheduling a campaign event. fb.me/1fh0MkMdR #tcot #p2

    13 Sep 12
More from The Washington Post: http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinio...4e1_story.html

According to the public schedule of the president, the last time the Obama attended his daily intelligence meeting was Sept. 5 — a week before Islamist radicals stormed our embassy in Cairo and terrorists killed our ambassador to Tripoli. The president was scheduled to hold the intelligence meeting at 10:50 a.m. Wednesday, the day after the attacks, but it was canceled so that he could comfort grieving employees at the State Department — as well he should. But instead of rescheduling the intelligence briefing for later in the day, Obama apparently chose to skip it altogether and attend a Las Vegas fundraiser for his re-election campaign. One day after a terrorist attack.
That is so shake fisty, we are struck speechless. Outrageous, unconscionable and beyond dangerous. This is the President of the United States. Under his watch, four lay dead. And he skips the intelligence briefing. He’s so smart, you see, that he doesn’t even need any briefings. Plus, Vegas, baby! http://twitchy.com/2012/09/12/priori...ts-vegas-baby/

There’s more: The embassies were not secure on September 11. And there are reports that marines are not allowed to carry live ammunition.

    And the media?

    (he said ironically)@AceofSpadesHQ

Four people have been murdered and the media is resolutely incurious as to "Why?" and "Could this have been avoided?"

    12 Sep 12

    (he said ironically)@AceofSpadesHQ 12 Sep 12

Obama explanation for why there were no Marines at consulate: it's an "interim facility." So, you know. No worries.

    Dave Not Weigel@NotDaveWeigel

MSM: Cool. What about Gov. Romney's gaaaffes?!? MT @AceofSpadesHQ Obama explanation: it's an "interim facility." So, you know. No worries.

    12 Sep 12
    (he said ironically)@AceofSpadesHQ

How could Obama know a locked door wasn't sufficient security? It's not like Beghazi has long been an Al Qaeda stronghold or anything.

    12 Sep 12
    (he said ironically)@AceofSpadesHQ

While we talk about Romney's statement we don't talk about the four murders of men left in an unprotected building in an AQ town...
...and the lack of evacuation or Marine reinforcement even though there were dire warnings of coming carnage.
    12 Sep 12
    kirsten powers✔
    @kirstenpowers10

No marines posted to consulate in Libya on 9/11 politico.com/news/stories/0…But by all means media pls keep focusing on Romney's press statements

    12 Sep 12
    (he said ironically)@AceofSpadesHQ

Benghazi was an Al Qaeda stronghold before, through, and after the revolution. This isn't exactly Monday Morning Quarterbacking.

    12 Sep 12
Yes. But, statement tact. That’s the real concern here, you see.

Not why four lay dead, left unsecured on September 11, under President Obama’s watch.

    http://twitchy.com/2012/09/13/danger...here-is-media/

I have been livid for 2 days now about this and it just keeps getting worse and NO ONE IN THE MSM GIVES A DAMN! Marines without live ammo, American diplomats in dangerous countries without proper security on 9/11 no less and a President who thinks his beauty sleep is more important than finding out if one of his Ambassadors has been murdered by terrorists or not. Oh, and campaigning is more important that intelligence briefings. This is all just shameful.

    .

I know. This is a major scandal for any politician, and I'm dumbfounded that the US news media isn't investigating it. Undoubtedly they would be all over it if we had a Republican President. At least the mainstream press in the UK is reporting on it now.

    ..

Here in Australia I hve been following for some time the US election cycle and it alarms me that some people still vote for Obama. With all the things he has said compared to what he has achieved, he should be out on his posterior. But willing footsoldiers like Chris Matthews ensure that the real story of Obama's incompetence remains hidden. But his actions have laid his modus operandi bare and it isn't a pretty sight. People will say what does this have to do with Australia? As America and Britain are our greatest allies, whatever happens with your elections has an effect here. Everytime I see PM Gillard and Obama speak, my blood pressure rises because when inept people become leaders, there are dangerous times ahead. Good luck with your election in November and hoping Romney wins.

    ..

The Social Security Administration and NOAA get to order up ammo, but our Marines in a hostile foreign country don't. WTH?!?!

    ..

I walked into work and heard how "my boy" Romney had really stepped in it. I asked why he thought that.He asked how Romney knew about the embassy 6 hours prior to the attack. I didn't even have to look. I knew instantly that the Egyptian embassy incident had been buried by our un-biased media. I then asked if he knew there were three embassies attacked. He told me that he only knew of the one that was attacked. How sad that our media is making up lies about both candidates... but especially the numerous lies about Romney. They are truly twisted to think that we will forget their incompetence after the election is over. this is a headline I copied/pasted:
U.S. embassies attacked in Yemen, Egypt after Libya envoy killed
    Courtesy of Reuters

Cairo was attacked prior to Libya but the truth in the headline would not benefit their accusations of Romney knowing beforehand.
