Jets Going Alcohol-Free for Home Finale53
By Chris Burke
Sunday's regular-season finale has all the makings of an emotional powder keg for the Jets and their fans. New York, playing its final home game ever at Giants Stadium, can clinch a playoff berth with a win over Cincinnati in a nationally-televised prime time game.
So to try and soothe a charged situation, the Jets announced Wednesday night that they were banning alcohol sales for Sunday's game.
"The organization approaches the decision of whether to serve alcohol on a game-by-game basis, with input from the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority," Jets team spokesman Bruce Speight said in a statement. "With the late start of Sunday's game, coupled with this being the final regular season and final game at the stadium, we feel it is prudent not to serve alcohol."
This is fine, in theory -- how it works out in practice remains to be seen. What's likely to happen is that a bunch more alcohol is consumed during the hours and hours of pregame tailgating that will precede Sunday night's 8 p.m. ET kickoff. Oh, and I would imagine more than a few souls will utilize their winter clothing to sneak a nip or two of alcohol into the stadium.
Share So the chances are that this will only have a minimal impact on the fans' rabidity. Most college football stadiums do not permit the sale of alcohol inside, and those environments -- especially at night -- are usually pretty lively.
If the Jets win and wrap up a playoff spot, the fans will find a way to celebrate. And if they lose ... well, things might get ugly, regardless of everyone's blood alcohol level

They don't have to sneak it in at college games they sell it at the concession stands. They do usually cut of sales by the 4th quarter.

Wow! I had season tickets when a student at the University of Michigan a few years ago and alcohol wasn't sold at concession stands. I don't know of it being sold at any university/college in the state of Michigan.
