Are you really saying that she shouldn't spend money on expensive shoes as long as there are people with far less? That people with a lot should help out those with less? Because that makes you a fan of socialism.
They kept showing the clip of of Bush telling Brownie what good job he was doing with Katrina this week!

First lady’s office will not comment ‘as of right now’ on $2K SOTU dress
By Caroline May - The Daily Caller – 8 hrs ago

While the president spoke about the economic frustrations of average Americans in his State of the Union address Tuesday night, his wife, Michelle Obama appeared at the event in a sapphire blue dress from designer Barbara Tfank’s 2012 Resort collection, estimated to cost over $2k.

The first lady’s press office, however is mum on dress, telling The Daily Caller that they will not offer comment “as of right now.”

Tfanks, a West Coast designer, recently described the dress as “a criss cross bodice cap-sleeved slim dress in silk twill,” to The Hollywood Reporter.

The first lady also wore a Tfanks in 2010 to meet Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace for a Medal of Honor ceremony.

The price is not listed on Tfanks collection, however People Magazine has pinned the cost at $2,400.

With America in such dire straights, it is insulting to many of us that she shows this level of hubris...

    ...

It's okay obama is going to fix all of our problems once his new buffet tax plan goes into effect. I wonder though if he realizes it is going to include him now.

    ...

Taxpayers paid over 4 million dollars flying the President, his wife, and children to Hawaii, along with all of their entourage of secret service personnel. It took Air Force One, 2 C-130 aircraft to haul all of their cars and equipment. Mrs Obama decided that she needed to return ahead of the family, so Air Force One had to take her back to Washington, turn around and go back to Hawaii. YOU CINDY LOU need to get your facts straight. All of the secret service had to be housed and fed while they were there. They get a per diem for each day, and Hawaii isn't cheap. You CINDY LOU need to pull your head out of your #$%$ before you spew your filth. Its the problem with Democrats, they make it up as they go and let everyone else PAY.

    ...

she may as well just walk around punching us all in our faces. oh how i wish i had an extra $2k lying around. considering i pay rent and bills, i could use it.

    ..

He, the Prez, is preaching "austerity and belt-tighting" and she,Mrs. Prez, is setting the "example"!
That is what he's preaching, isn't it?

    ...

The media is really trying to protect the Obamas. when Sarah Palin, who was then only a candidate appeared in what looked like expensive clothes they pretty much made a scandal out of it. The Obamas really really truly have a double standard. They are trying to socialize America, but like the Politburo or the former USSR where the leaders were rich and the people poor, they put themselves above the law, above the standard they set for everyone else, Michelle Obama is even trying to dictate to people what to eat, did you ever hear such a thing? totally a ridiculous Yuppie couple.

    ...

You all are fat and happy when you are able to spend the hard earned money of the working class people. It only bothers you when you have to part with some of your hand out. With people starving, unable to pay their bills, making choices between food and heat, it is NOT the freakin time for fashion LENA. Her attire shows contempt for working class people everywhere. It is why you will never earn any respect from anyone who works for a living.

    ..

Now, lets say first that Michelle needs to have decent clothing when she shows up for important events. But -- state of the unions is not an event that requires an expensive dress. IMO.Why did it have to be a designer dress? Had nothing left in the closet to wear and look presentable?

Most of her wardrobe is paid for by their finances. Since it is not tax dollars filling her closet, I really don't care.

That's what the taxpayers money is for... Protecting the president. He doesn't stop being president just because he is on vacation.

You can't expect ANY president to fly anywhere, on regular commercial aircraft. You also can't expect them to use 'rental' vehicles when they get there. And they aren't going to hire 'mall cops' to protect him when they get there either.

I'm not sticking up for him......I'm not a fan of his. lol
But we go through the same old crap with EVERY president and his wife when it comes to what they do and spend on vacations.

Michelle Obama’s $7,000 Jacket Has Critics Grumbling
.By Sarah B. Weir, Yahoo! blogger | Team Mom – 4 hours ago

First lady Michelle Obama looked fit for a queen when she attended an Olympics reception at Buckingham Palace on July 27, and some critics are complaining that her silver embroidered jacket cost a king's ransom. Although not yet in stores, the white, capped sleeved number by J. Mendel lists for $6,800.

"The jacket cost more than the average American family makes in a month ($4,284)," kvetched the conservative blog thegatewaypundit.com. "And, she does this as Americans continue to suffer through a deep recession and record unemployment." A commenter called Granny points out, "I had better not EVER hear another word about a mere $900 blouse on Mrs. Romney's back or Sarah Palin's $300 shoes. EVER."

Since she first hit the campaign trail with her husband, Obama has been an international style icon and has appeared on numerous "best dressed lists." Defender Robert Verdi, a celebrity stylist, shot back to the NY Daily News, "She isn't just wearing a $6,800 jacket--she's supporting the commerce of the nation." He added that "It's not wasteful, it's inspiring: it's a New York company-selling a product made in the US…and it helps the tailor and the little dry cleaner on the corner stay in business."

Like Kate Middleton, who also attended the reception, Obama is known for mixing both "high" and "low" fashion. Last winter, the First Lady was spotted wearing a $39.99 Jason Wu for Target dress. Previously, she had tapped the designer, who was then unknown, to create her couture one-shoulder gown for the inauguration ball. Wu, who studied at Parsons in New York City, credits her for launching his career.
Love it or loathe it, when Michelle Obama wears something, people look--whether it's the mid-priced J. Crew separates she often dons on the road or when promoting her Let's Move campaign or a $2000 cardigan by swank designer L'Wrenn Scott. One result of her visibility is sales. It's estimated that the "Obama effect" has generated over $2.7 billion for the fashion industry since her husband took office, despite the shaky economy.

WashPost Hails 'Princely' $6,800 Jacket Michelle Obama Wears, While $990 Ann Romney Shirt Was 'Tone-deaf'

On Monday morning, Washington Post gossips Roxanne Roberts and Amy Argetsinger hailed Michelle Obama the fashion plate with the headline "Fit For a Queen (Truly)." For a reception at Buckingham Palace for heads of state, Mrs. Obama wore a "very fancy" jacket priced at a "princely $6,800." Readers could exhale, the American now fits in.

The very same Washington Post greeted the GOP nominee's wife with a much different spin online, despite a lower price tag. The headline was “Ann Romney's $990 T-shirt is indicative of a tone-deaf campaign” and Suzi Parker began by asking “Does Ann Romney wear her $990 designer shirt while driving one of her two Cadillacs?” At least the Post alerted Washingtonians someone had critized Mrs. Obama for "not dressing up enough" in London:

Michelle Obama has been criticized for not dressing up enough for Queen Elizabeth II, so she stepped up her game Friday night at an Olympics reception for heads of state at Buckingham Palace. The first lady wore a very fancy J. Mendel capsleeve jacket — “white viscose techno crepe tailored jacket with overlapped side panels and silver embroidery” from the 2013 Resort collection, according to a press release from the company. It’s not in stores yet, but high-end retailer Moda Operandi listed the jacket at a princely $6,800. The White House declined to comment.
The print edition of the Post was a little gentler than Suzi Parker, with a headline "Even bird blouse is political prey." Dan Zak underlined the fashion faux pas in a faux-sympathetic tone that this wasn't an important issue, but here's 1,000 words on this "misdemeanor" of elitism:

But in American politics, a $1,000 blouse is at least a misdemeanor. It is also grist for the 24-hour news cycle, which turns men into madmen and joy into sorrow. The Cut, a blog for New York magazine, first noticed the Krakoff [shirt] within hours of the Romney's appearance on CBS T his Morning. On Wednesday, MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell devoted several minutes of airtime to the blouse, which he called "a really ugly T-shirt" that is "yet another example of how out of touch the Romney family can be with how 99 percent of Americans live."

Despite her penchant for horse ballet, Ann Romney has been cast in the political narrative as the down-to-earth spouse. Her struggles with multiple sclerosis, identity as a stay-at-home mom and ease on the campaign stage have made her an asset to her husband. But the pricey blouse is catnip for critics, who've framed Mitt Romney as a rich guy whose beach-house renovation includes an elevator for his cars.
After laying out all the Obama spin, Zak did report Mrs. Obama had carried a $1,000 teal leather purse by the same designer to a parent-teacher conference in March 2011.

Janna Ryan sports thrifty Kohl’s dress on campaign trail
By Liz Goodwin, Yahoo! News | The Ticket – 6 hrs ago

Janna Ryan, right, wife of GOP vice presidential candidate Rep. Paul Ryan, with Ann Romney during a campaign rally

Janna Little Ryan found herself in the spotlight this weekend as she made her campaign trail debut with her husband, newly tapped Republican vice presidential candidate Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin.

    Dana Buchman floral dress. (Kohls.com)

The 43-year-old mother of three showed up at campaign events in North Carolina sporting a thrifty $70 floral dress by Dana Buchman (on sale at Kohl's for $35). The down-to-earth look inspired fans on Facebook, who were charmed by Ryan's fashionable, yet machine-washable approach. "I was so excited this morning watching Romney & Ryan in North Carolina. Romney calls the wives up to the stage & OMG, Janna Ryan was wearing the same dress I wore to my nephew's wedding 2 wks ago!!!" wrote Cheryl Cooper of Oklahoma City on Facebook. "I got mine at Kohls, with Kohls cash & 30% discount. Cost me about $20."

Ryan is known for her thrifty sense of fashion. The Ryan's neighbors Joe and Terry Moss of Janesville, Wis., told USA Today that Ryan showed up to a neighborhood porch party sporting a cute pair of sandals she nabbed at Goodwill for $2.

Ryan is following in the footsteps of the current first lady—who is known for her high-low fashion. Michelle Obama wore a $35 H&M dress on the "Today Show" last year and has been spotted in Target's affordable designer collaborations. But the first lady also dresses upscale—consider the $6,800 jacket she wore to Buckingham Palace for the Olympics' opening ceremonies.

Janesville residents have praised Ryan, a former high-powered tax attorney who is now a stay-at-home mom, for being "ladylike" and kind. She grew up in Madill, Okla., in a family that has deep Democratic roots. Her cousin is a retiring Democratic congressman—the only Democrat in Oklahoma's congressional delegation—and her uncle was the former governor of Oklahoma. She graduated from Wellesley College in Massachusetts before getting her law degree from George Washington University and becoming a tax attorney in Washington. According to the Milwaukee Sentinel Journal, Paul Ryan proposed to Janna at his favorite hunting spot when he was 30 and she 31.

Important campaign story of the day: Did Paul Ryan wash clean dishes or dirty dishes in his photo op at a soup kitchen?
posted at 7:11 pm on October 16, 2012 by Allahpundit

Via Newsbusters, http://newsbusters.org/blogs/kyle-dr...hes-were-alrea a little taste of liberal desperation as the left tries to jumpstart another trivial gravity-defying attack-pander on Romney for the benefit of middle-class voters. (Alas, poor Big Bird, we knew ye well.) On Saturday, Paul Ryan swung by a soup kitchen in Youngstown, Ohio after a campaign event; the event had run long, past the time when the kitchen was serving breakfast, so he ended up washing dishes for them instead. Except — the dishes were already clean. The whole thing was a fraud, just like Mitt Romney and the GOP and their pretensions to relate in any way to the working-class voters who are poised to throw Barack Obama out of office. Why, I bet those aren’t even real arrows that Paul Ryan uses when he goes hunting.

Essentially, this dumb meme was a variation of the equally dumb attack on Bush 41 for supposedly being amazed when he saw a supermarket scanner in action. In both cases, the point was to show the Republican “out of touch” with average Americans. And in both cases, it was based on a lie. Bush 41 had seen supermarket scanners before, and Paul Ryan was indeed washing dirty dishes: http://firstread.nbcnews.com/_news/2...hen-visit?lite

The question of whether the Wisconsin congressman cleaned dishes that were actually dirty – as opposed to re-washing already clean dishes so as to get a good photo opportunity — Mahoning County St. Vincent De Paul Society President Brian Antal clarified that Ryan did clean soiled dishes. This differs from what Antal had told The Washington Post Monday.

Speaking Tuesday morning with NBC News, Antal said he was not on-site when Ryan was at the soup kitchen and attributes his earlier comments that the dishes were clean when Ryan washed them to hearing the details second-hand from a volunteer…

In response to questions about Antal’s comments to the Washington Post that Ryan “did nothing” while at the soup kitchen, Antal said his words were mischaracterized. He told NBC News in that Ryan did very little work only compared to the larger context of Saturday morning, when the kitchen fed 180 homeless people breakfast. Antal conceded that Ryan did wash several dirty dishes.
WaPo reported today that Antal, a self-described independent, has chosen to vote in Democratic primaries since the mid-90s. The secondary complaint here is that the campaign “barged in” to the building, which is supposed to be apolitical, without formally requesting approval. But a Romney campaign spokesperson says they followed standard procedure in setting it up, and they didn’t “barge in” but were let in by volunteers who were there at the time. (Antal wasn’t.) http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics...into-question/

And no, to answer your inevitable question, I can’t quite believe that this is a “news” story on the eve of a presidential debate either. But here you go; fresh from this morning’s “Today” show. http://www.mrctv.org/embed/117536

At the rate Obama’s polls are going, they’ll be doing half-hour segments with Big Bird on PBS funding during the first week of November.

So all that talk about how great Biden was was just bluster…deep in their hearts, the libs know Ryan won, too. Good to know.

The comments on Facebook about this were ridiculous. Lots of gloating and mocking.

If nothing else, this election season has shown me…I need new friends. (Well, not all of them are lost to the dark side; there is still a solid, right-thinking core. But I’ve been shocked at how many people I know who think this is a big deal but not Fast and Furious…or a murdered ambassador…or a racist rant at a college, etc

    ..

I wonder if Obama actually made that pizza that he delivered to his supporters the other day. If not did he actually call in the order, drive his car to the pizza joint, pick up the pizza and pay for it, then drive it to the campaign headquarters? I’m betting that someone handed him the pizzas as he walked in the door for a photo op. Why no media buzz about Obama’s pizza delivery?
