Florida Conservatives Fight for Repeal of Transgender Restroom Rule

i'd like to know when it comes right down to it, what the people who voted for this nonsense would think when they see their little girl going to the bathroom followed by a man.

    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,478924,00.html

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — A blond girl heads from a playground into a women's restroom. A scruffy man, lurking outside, darts in behind her. "Your City Commission Made This Legal," the words on the TV screen read.

The dark ad came from opponents of a gender identity provision added last year to the city's anti-discrimination ordinance, which now allows the city's roughly 100 transgender residents to use whichever restroom they're most comfortable using.

Click here to watch the ad. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ExGBlXKRrYs

Foes want to repeal the new protection with a March 24 ballot measure that has divided Gainesville, a generally gay-friendly university city surrounded by staunchly conservative north Florida.

Those who support the transgender protections say their opponents are really unleashing a broader attack on the rights of gay, lesbian and transgender individuals in general.

The city commission approved the restroom provision by a 4-3 vote a year ago. Before the ink could dry, Bible-quoting opponents angrily began working for its repeal.

"You are trying to operate in a realm you do not have the authority to operate in," one pastor, George Brantley, told the commissioners.

The debate is expected to become noisier as the ballot nears with opponents resorting to more TV ads and campaigns pegged to such slogans as "Keep Men out of Women's Restrooms and vice versa."

Organizations defending transgender rights are mustering their own campaign.

The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force notes 108 cities and counties nationwide have similar transgender protections. An attempt to repeal an ordinance in Montgomery County, Md., failed when a court ruled opponents did not collect enough signatures to place it on the ballot.

Citizens for Good Public Policy, the group behind the commercial that aired last summer in Gainesville, collected more than 6,000 signatures last summer to win a referendum. If approved, the repeal measure would also prevent the commission from adding protections beyond what the state requires: race, color, sex, religion, national origin, age, disability and marital status.

Cain Davis, chairman of Citizens for Good Public Policy, said the issue is about regulating a "government gone wild" and ensuring public safety, charging that sexual predators could now simply enter a women's restroom claiming to be a transgender individual.

"We know when men go into women's restrooms, bad things can happen," Davis said.

City Commissioner Crag Lowe, leader of a group called Equality is Gainesville's Business, called the ads from Davis' group a grossly distorted attempt to whip up fears.

Lowe's group believes anti-discrimination protections for people who change their sexual orientation are good for business and foster diversity. He noted that 433 of the Fortune 500 companies have policies covering sexual orientation and 153 cover gender identity.

Since the ordinance took effect, police have reported no problems in public restrooms stemming from the law.

Retired postal worker Donna Lee, who became a female with surgery in 2001, moved to Gainesville from Ocala last March after hearing about the anti-discrimination ordinance. The 60-year-old is working to save the protections.

"We just want to live our lives with the basic civil rights that everyone else has," Lee said.

But some are taking no chances.

Computer programmer Clare Holman, who was born male but now lives as a female, said she simply stays away from public toilets.

"I don't want to run afoul of the law by using the wrong restroom," Holman said.

After they've fully changed to a woman or man I don't object to it. But if a man still has his sexual organs then no I wouldn't want him to come in the ladies room with me or children. Just because someone is trying to live as a woman doesn't mean they are all up standing people. I just wouldn't want to take a chance where children are concerned.

I agree that you should use the one that you have genitals for. But really, I don't think it's a big deal either way. You're in a stall so no one should be seeing them anyway. I've taken my DD into the men's room when she had to go and the women's was closed. Same with my son, I've taken him in with me. So I really don't care who is in the next stall because I won't be seeing it.

Yeah but you were with them. I wouldn't want a man following a child in that is alone. Not all people are good and I wouldn't want to take the chance.

I really don't like the idea of a man being allowed to use a woman's restroom.
I would be really upset if some man followed either me or my daughter into a restroom. There would be a high probability for some type of misconduct plus it would be very embarrassing to a shy young girl.

Besides all that I can see people who are not transgendered but just pedophiles using this as an open invitation. They dressed as needed and stake out the public restrooms for a child using the restroom alone. If questioned as why they are/were in there they could claim they were just using the facilities.

Now if they have already had a sex reassignment surgery that would be a bit different. I am referring to those pre surgery transgenders.

It's just a shame that laws to protect people's rights can 'violate' or make others feel very uncomfortable.....I could see where a law like this can further increase the tensions between groups.....but I still don't want to see a 'man' follow my daughter into the restroom....

Naked Man in Women’s Bathroom, Cites Gender Rule…
And the City Can’t do a thing!

Steven Crowder Wednesday February 17 2016

Transgenders are the preferred protected class du jour for leftists (Read, Male Who Claims He’s a Woman Beats Up Women in Cage-Fighting for a Living here), and for some reason public bathrooms are the front line (watch Planet Fitness Allows Self-Professed Women to Use Any Bathroom they Want here). Step aside beaches of Normandy, there’s a new battlefront for the history books. Seattle for example passed a “gender rule,” that says men and women who claim to be the opposite of that can use any bathroom they want, and can’t be discriminated against. Because social justice.

So it’s no surprise this happened…

Seattle Parks and Recreation is facing a first-of-a-kind challenge to gender bathroom rules. A man undressed in a women’s locker room, citing a new state rule that allows people to choose a bathroom based on gender identity.

    >snip<

It was a busy time at Evans Pool around 5:30pm Monday February 8. The pool was open for lap swim. According to Seattle Parks and Recreation, a man wearing board shorts entered the women’s locker room and took off his shirt. Women alerted staff, who told the man to leave, but he said “the law has changed and I have a right to be here."
A few issues, but here’s the best part…

As far as policy to protect everyone, Seattle Parks spokesman David Takami says they’re still working on the issue. Right now, there’s no specific protocol for how someone should demonstrate their gender in order to access a bathroom.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! The city is “still working on the issue.” They don’t know what to do. They literally have no idea how this could have happened. Their hands are tied.

My second favorite part, is this woman in the video’s quote…

“I have no idea why anyone would even want to do that!”
Can’t. Stop. Laughing. This woman is incapable of fathoming why a man would want to gain access to the women’s changing room. To better understand this situation, see “every fantasy of every teenage boy in the history of ever.”

My third favorite part is this man himself. You know why? Because he’s still doing it. He’s just sauntering on in there, dropping his pants and when anyone questions him on it, he points to the rulebook and continues pissing them off. Clearly this guy is trying to make a point. Yes, he’s being a bit of a jerk. And boy oh boy, do I love him for it.

The city is in turmoil and has no idea how to react. After all, this is absurd! This man is using the women’s room! He’s showing entire disregard for gender norms and sensitivity! This simply isn’t done!

Now simply replace “man” with the word “transgender” who actually happens to still be a man, with a penis, and leftists welcome it with open arms.

Of course the city doesn’t know how to react. They have no leg to stand on. You can’t simply peddle the idea that people can choose their gender, that gender is non-binary, that people should be free to use the restroom of their choosing and then do an about-face when someone calls you on it.

This city is moronic. These laws are moronic. The modern, SJW “trans” movement is moronic. And it’s taking one brilliant man, acting like a moron, to expose just how moronic it is. Say, this seems familiar…

Watch the video below of me going full transgender at Planet Fitness. You won’t be disappointed.

    http://louderwithcrowder.com/man-dro...mens-bathroom/

He can say, "I felt like a woman that day. Sometimes that happens to me. On that day I felt like a lesbian." The city has to prove him guilty. If he did nothing wrong (like bring a camera or peak into the stalls), then there is nothing they can do. Liberals are just idiots.

    ..

I think that the position planet fitness is holding is absolutely ignorant! Yes, where are the rape activists!? What no one else thinks this is just handing women over to the diddlers?! Political correctness is ruining our country.

Here's An INFURIATING Example Of Why Those 'Gender Identity' Bathrooms Are A Terrible Idea

Imagine being informed that while your young daughter was changing into her swimsuit after school at the local community pool locker-room, an adult male LAWFULLY entered said locker-room and began undressing. Enraged yet?

Last Monday in Seattle, this actually happened. Apparently, the man who walked into the women’s locker-room—on two occasions—and began undressing, cited the “new state rule that allows people to choose a bathroom based on gender identity.” You know, those laws the ingenious left has been pushing because of “inclusiveness.”

“It was a busy time at Evans Pool around 5:30 p.m. Monday February 8,” reports KING5 News. “The pool was open for lap swim. According to Seattle Parks and Recreation, a man wearing board shorts entered the women's locker room and took off his shirt. Women alerted staff, who told the man to leave, but he said ‘the law has changed and I have a right to be here.’”

Subsequent to this new rule, no one called the police on this man who reportedly came back a second time when young girls were changing into their swimsuits for swim practice.

“The issue drew protesters from both sides to Olympia on Monday,” says KING5 News. “Opponents claim the rule opens up bathrooms to voyeurs but supporters say that's an unrealistic fear.”

David Takami, Seattle Parks spokesman, said “they're still working on the issue.”

Right now, there's no specific protocol for how someone should demonstrate their gender in order to access a bathroom. Employees just rely on verbal identification or physical appearance, and this man offered neither.
In the left’s defense, who could have foreseen such a disaster coming from a law which allows anyone access to any bathroom or locker-room of their choosing so long as they magically declare themselves that gender? Gee, I don’t know, only everyone (with a brain).

The left dictates that we have to be so “inclusive” that our personal rights, our children's rights, must take a back seat. After all, so what if a grown man walks in on your daughter changing into her swimsuit? So what if he begin to undress in front of her? In the name of “inclusion,” all is at risk.

    Why gender-neutral bathrooms matter
    By Steffanie Pinch | May 19, 2014

Using a public washroom isn't something most folks whose gender identity matches the gender they were assigned at birth ever really think about. This privilege is not shared by trans* people. For people who don't conform to gender norms, whose gender isn't man or woman or even trans* people who don't pass as their desired gender, choosing which bathroom to use is all too often a lose-lose situation.

Many trans* people face harassment at best. According to a 2013 study, 68 per cent of trans* people were told they were in the wrong facility, ridiculed, told to leave, verbally threatened or gawked at. Nine per cent of trans* people were sexually assaulted or subject to physical violence just for going to a gender segregated bathroom. The fear, stress and real potential for violence associated with using gender segregated bathrooms can be so great that it can actually limit the participation of trans* folks in everyday life. Fifty-seven per cent of trans* Ontarians have avoided public washrooms, which can result in health conditions ranging from urinary tract infections to kidney problems.

The core of this issue is transphobia. Whenever the option of gender-neutral bathrooms is discussed, without fail, a vocal contingent of seemingly well-meaning folks rear their heads to argue the same tired myths. The notion that gender-neutral bathrooms can't exist because of the theoretical threat of violence to cisgender women and children silences and erases the real probability of violence that trans* people experience when they enter a bathroom. The idea that a gendered sign on a washroom door will stop a predator in their tracks has not proven true.

Single-stall, accessible washrooms are a viable solution for businesses, schools and municipalities. These bathrooms can be accessible to people with disabilities and marked as gender neutral. Just as inaccessible bathrooms act as a barrier for people with disabilities, gender-segregated bathrooms are a barrier to trans* people. To truly make society inclusive for trans* people, gender-neutral bathrooms need to become a priority in all public spaces.

There have been some amazing strides in the last few months in Vancouver. In late April, Vancouver Parks and Recreation adopted many of the recommendations of its Trans* and Gender Variant working group including introducing properly signed gender neutral washrooms. The Vancouver School Board (VSB) received similar feedback from its PRIDE advisory committee, hoping to update a decade old policy on LGBTQ students. The highlights of the new policy include: making trans*-positive resources available in school libraries in multiple languages, respecting the chosen name and pronoun of trans* people and mandating that gender-neutral bathrooms be available for trans* students.

The simple request to take a stance against transphobia in schools by respecting and creating accessible bathrooms for trans* students has ballooned out of the VSB meeting last Wednesday and into the realm of public opinion. The policy, originally thought to be implemented as early as May 20, will now endure another round of community critique on June 11.

While opponents claim that there needs to be more research done into the policy, there have been multiple, significant studies into how trans* youth experience violence at school. In Egale Canada's 2009 School Climate Survey 95 per cent of trans* youth said they felt unsafe in their school. Ninety per cent had faced harassment at school because of their gender identity. Half of all trans* students who reported the incident to school staff saw no action taken on their behalf. A 2010 Transpulse study found that 19 per cent of trans* youth in Ontario over the age of 16 avoided school due to fear of harassment.

A massive barrier to feeling welcome at school is not having access to the most basic resources. We know the risks for trans* people when they are forced to use gender-segregated bathrooms The issue of gender-neutral bathrooms in schools doesn't need more research. What we need is for cisgender opponents to check their privilege and respect trans* people as people.
