What about the bi-sexual? Now they CAN chose which lifestyle they will live. I guess they want to play both sides of the road. Maybe it depends on who has the best offer, like Anne Heche and Ellen.
Steve Martin wrote her into his script about being a lesbian/straight, he lived with her for quite awhile. She went after those in power---man or woman.
