The last I knew, mocking wasn't against the rules--personal attacks were. I'm not attacking anyone. I'm mocking an idea. Completely different.
I don't think I've seen anywhere that someone has been reprimanded for mocking or offending a liberal's sensitivites. I don't seeeverything that goes on hear, but lately what I have seen is that threads have been closed for getting downright nasty, having personal attacks and getting off of the OP's intended topic. JMO.

I thought it was funny so I thanked her. No one was being attacked nor called names.
And there are plenty of comments about liberals on here, so yes the conservatives do have freedom of speech here, until it results in name calling. Then it gets edited.

I don't think he would agree with you. He may still have some of those feelings but he doesn't want to live gay, he wants to live straight. We all have our crosses to bare.
Go tell him he is stupid. Where did choice go in our society? Liberals are fine until they see people doing what they think is wrong and then they know what is best for them and PC.
I never once called anyone stupid. DO NOT put words in my mouth, Janelle. Personally, it sounds to me like the man you're speaking of is still confused and has probably had it hammered into his brain that homosexuality is "wrong" for so many years that he is probably internally conflicted (i.e. his heart tells him one thing and his brain tells him another).

Is there a warning on tv when straight relationships are about to be on? Why should their be one for gay relationships? Will your head explode if you see two guys or two girls in a loving relationship? I doubt there will be any guy on guy action on NBC so there is no reason to put a warning. OZ, on the other hand, needed a warning...but was the best damn show EVER

This is how *I* read it ...

You quote her and then the "funny warning" follows:
A warning label? LOL Ok, here you go!
WARNING: By watching this show, you may witness examples of REALITY. If you currently reside a place where your head is in the clouds
(or up your arse), please change the channel.
It is really the "up your arse" comment that makes it offensive as it seems to be directed at the above posted.
... and I didn't even realise I missed "Talk Like a Pirate Day" ... or just a way to get around the language filters ?

http://www.bigbigforums.com/news-inf...s-college.html was closed after 4 posts ... the last of those the mod saying :
And watch how fast this thread goes.
No name calling ... apearently a pre-emptive lock down because people might think about calling names ?
http://www.bigbigforums.com/news-inf...p-america.html was closed because SurferGirl stated
What would one expect from a liberal atheist.
which can hardly be called "name calling" since that is what cSoReNSoN has posted under their own username BigBig Liberal Atheist
But another thread can go on for eight pages - forty plus posts - harrassing me because I am "too white" for certain members' taste... but that is acceptable because Hippiechic is the one egging it on ... and on .. and on ... even when I expressed that I was feeling "dumped on" & "harrassed"... which would be reporting it to a moderator ... except she is the moderator...
If all she wanted was "information" from me ... I guess she could have just PM'd me ... which is how she recomended the second thread on the topic be handled in OT.

Ummm, "International Talk Like a Pirate Day" was September 19th. On that day there were classes offered ("Pirate Speak 101," and "Arrrgggh, My Arse!" namely) in the OTC that you could have taken should you have chosen to do so. Sorry you missed it! Maybe next year, then!

If I don't quote you then don't say I meant it to be you. It was a general YOU. This time it does mean you since I have the quotes.
And since I have you in quotes may I say you are assuming what he feels. If he wants to live straight why are we to tell him not to, it goes along with your thinking about living gay.

Now they have curse words and hyperactive sexual antics from 5 o'clock on. While I think "Three and a Half Men" is amusing it is not appropriate for kids, drinking, drug use, hot and cold running women ... yesterday's episode featured a running gag on how Charlie "tricked" Alan into sexually using as a child a succesion of items... including a melon, a Thanksgiving turkey, a vaccum ... and the real reason Mom got rid of the dog ... involving Allan, the family pet and a jar of peanut butter... Yes... this is wholesome viewing for kids.
People wonder why I won't have cable ? I barely allow network programing anymore.
I understand you concern. Television is changing. What was popular in your youth no longer exisits. The standards have changed. Th e television programing that used to be on (leave it to beaver, my three sons, father knows best) that was trying desperately to show society what they should be doing in the modern American family is gone.
It wasn't relevant anymore.
Life wasn't that simple.
June didn't live under "the rule of thumb".
Robert Young didn't walk around in a wife beater sipping beer from a can.
Television was supposed to reflect real life...it was a crock.
Television used to be an escape...it still can be.
But when televieion does rear it's ugly head and show us just what society is made of it can be frightening. I understand.
So protect your children and yourself. Change the channel or better yet hide the remote. (a good channel blocker would work too)
Life can be beautiful and ugly. And three feet from your couch.

Ass isn't in the word filter. And if there was any name calling in any of those threads, no matter who did it, send me the link to the thread and I'll edit it out.
Some of the threads did have name calling and it was edited and infractions were given.
And no where in the thread did I call you a name. The post didn't make sense to me and I asked about it. We are allowed to do that. And I actually had to deleted some posts from it, but I guess I got to them before you saw them.
The thread in OTC was closed because that was stuff from chat and we always close those. We have enough crap on the boards already, without adding what comes up in chat to it.
The other thread you linked to was not closed because of what Surfergirl said, it was closed because it was nothing but 2 members posting smartass comments to each other.

Well my neighborhood was a "Leave it to Beaver" and by the way it still is if I don't turn on the TV. We can't relax with TV since they are obsessed to show the underbelly of life.
The docs my hubby worked for just rented children's films and they let their kids watch those, no TV. Even those on TV won't let their kids watch---that should tell you something.
