We agree on that movie, R. The Joker was so irredeemably evil there was no negotiating with him. He just wanted to blow up the world.

Saddam comes to mind. I'm sure he and Hitler are talking it over in hell right now. Will our enemies get nuclear weapons and use them on us. They will if they have them.

The movie is basically a morality play. It PRACTICALLY calls President Bush the Dark Knight. The moral of the story is this...

When you are facing down evil, sometimes you have to be willing to be seen as the bad guy. It takes a special kind of person to go against public opinion to do what NEEDS to be done.

Though overly simplistic and idealist to believe that is the ENTIRE truth about President Bush...

It DOES force one to think. MAYBE, Bush isn't this cavalier and arrogant man who doesn't care what people think. MAYBE he is doing what he actually believes NEEDS done.

They make a GREAT argument in the movie that appeasement and reason can often fail when you have NO real idea what your enemy wants.

What if ALL your enemy wants or is willing to accept is your demise? HOW can you reason with that?

THAT is one of my biggest fears with Liberal candidates. The idea that some ideologies, some PEOPLE are just evil and can NOT be negotiated with. Unfortunately liberals don't seem to believe in or RECOGNIZE evil. They will call Bush evil but NOT Hussein or Kim Jong Il or ANY other tyrannical despot.
They call those who would oppose abortion or homosexuality evil while saying that the people killing babies or fighting for "Gay rights" should be hailed as heroes....

Some Liberals NEED to realize that EVIL is very real and not just a name you call those whose opinions differ from yours!

SOME need to realize that there are soem things SO vile, SO despicable they can NOT be tolerated.

That SOME people NEED to be put down like dogs in the street.
    Glad I live in Maine.

Okay so...what was the point of this thread? I mean is there a link to the video or something. I'm not reading through three pages of back and forth back and forth.

    hell yeah!
Speedygirl! I also appreciate people who have the courage of their own convictions.

Even though you call yourself a Liberal, you are reasonable AND willing to actually hear the opinions of others.

I suspect we would agree on much, Liberal OR Conservative.

The MAIN point of this thread was how Hollywood was like crazy left liberal. That conservatives have to be sneaky or risk loss of employment and social ostrazation.

This is ALL too common on the left who preach "Diversity and tolerance" to everyone else while being decidedly IN-tolerant to some, Diversity doesn't include Conservative Christians, THEY should NOT be tolerated. THEY should be forced to adopt the views of modern soceity.

I think that is one of the reasons the Lord of the Rings trilogy did so well. Great special effects true, but the story line was fantastic.

    True enough.

There are those like Jon Voight, Sylvester Stallone and Chuck Norris that have the guts to endorse John McCain. Bo Derek is another one that has voiced her conservative views in the past, and I guess you could add Arnold in there. Tom Selleck is conservative in real life but you don't hear much about it. Supposedly Bruce Willis is conservative as well but keeps it quiet.

After 9/11, Dennis Miller joined the conservative ranks, and for a time there it looked like Tom Cruise and John Travolta would as well. But I guess their priority to promoting scientology got in the way.

Yes, the conservatives are afraid to speak up or they might lose out on some roles. But movies like Lord of the Rings and Narnia are becoming popular. I sure hope they decide to make more of these kinds of movies instead of the shoot em up and blood and guts kind. Movies are made for teen boys it seems since they are the highest movie goers. There is very little for the more mature crowd who wants movies with a good message.

There's very little for kids too, outside of the animation movies.

Man, I'd hate to be a kid growing up nowadays.

Most parents buy the older Disney movies and show them at home for their kids. There is also the Veggie Tales and they are good entertainment for the kids who don't want to be shown the PG13 movies which should really be rated R.
