Hillary Clinton brags about her life-risking trips as First Lady

    (via Newsday http://www.newsday.com/news/nationwo...,5515440.story )

Hillary says she risked life on White House trips
    Glenn Thrush
    December 31, 2007

VINTON, Iowa - Ever since Barack Obama suggested Hillary Clinton's eight years as first lady were a glorified tea party a few days back, she's looked for an opening to strike back.

On Saturday night in Dubuque she pounced, arguing she risked her life on White House missions in the 1990s, including a hair-raising flight into Bosnia that ended in a "corkscrew" landing and a sprint off the tarmac to dodge snipers. "I don't remember anyone offering me tea," she quipped.

The dictum around the Oval Office in the '90s, she added, was: "If a place was too dangerous, too poor or too small, send the first lady."

It turns out that Clinton wasn't quite flying solo into harm's way that day. She was, in fact, leading a goodwill entourage that included baggy-pants funnyman Sinbad, singer Sheryl Crow and Clinton's daughter, Chelsea, then 15, according to an account of the March 1995 trip in her autobiography "Living History."

As the plane approached the runway, the pilot ordered the Clintons into the armored front of the plane, Clinton writes.

What's not clear is whether Sinbad or Crow were invited to the cockpit or had to brave it out in the unprotected rear.

The dictum around the Oval Office in the '90s, she added, was: "If a place was too dangerous, too poor or too small, send the first lady."
Or was Bill just trying to "off" her ??

Chelsea Clinton and America Ferrera: Dumbing down politics

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUyZcMLK6o4

Warning: Your IQ may drop 30 points watching this campaign video of Chelsea Clinton and TV actress America Ferrera campaigning for Hillary in Nevada last week and playing the gender card to the hilt

At least you have 30 points to lose–which is more than most of the people in this video seem to possess.

Like the supporter who backs Hillary because “she’s a lady.”

    A lady.

And Ferrera, who giggles and gloats about Hillary with Chelsea during a car ride that she “was soooo happy and excited and I, I, I just felt so much pride for her and I thought ‘My God, like, this is a woman running for president.’”

    A woman.

    Like seriously

I’m like, Oh My God, it’s just so, totaly awesome that Hillary could be our, you know, president. That is soooo cool!

Can American politics get any dumber?

These women give women a bad name.

    ---

Taking bets --- if HRC and Bill get back in the White House they will find somewhere for Chelsea to get elected to Congress so she can be the next Clinton to get elected as President in 8 years … count on it …

Sinbad Downplays Hillary's Foreign Policy Experience

Posted by: Amanda Carpenter at 2:29 PM

Hillary Clinton plays up her travel as First Lady to boost her foreign policy credentials, but a comedian who accompanied her on one of those trips is calling her bluff.

Actor/jokester Sinbad told the Washington Post's Mary Ann Akers, "I think the only 'red-phone' moment was: 'Do we eat here or at the next place" during his trip with Clinton and singer Sheryl Crow to Bosnia in 1996.

Hillary's version of the trip is a bit different. The Des Moines Register quoted her describing the trip on the campaign trail in Iowa last December a bit more dangerously.

"We used to say in the White House that if a place was too dangerous, too small or too poor, send the first lady," Clinton told voters in Dubuque, Iowa.

"We landed in one of those corkscrew landings and ran out because they said there might be sniper fire. I don't remember anyone offering me tea on the tarmac there," Clinton said of her 1996 trip with Sinbad, Crow and her daughter Chelsea.

Sinbad laughed at Clinton's revisionist history. "What kind of president would say, 'Hey, man, I can't go 'cause I might get shot so I'm going to send my wife...oh, and take a guitar player and a comedian with you," he joked.

    Sinbad is an Obama supporter.

This picture of a stop during the trip was sent out by the Obama campaign earlier this year of shows the Clintons, Crow and Sinbad singing together.

    Hillary, honestly?

Hillary opens up her talk on the Iraq War with her "spiraling free fall into Kosovo sniper fire lie" that has already been discredited by everyone, even Sinbad the Entertainer.

Democratic presidential candidate Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY) delivers a campaign speech on the war in Iraq at George Washington University in Washington, March 17, 2008

Hillary remarks on the Troops: http://www.hillaryclinton.com/news/speech/view/?id=6553

Good morning. I want to thank Secretary West for his years of service, not only as Secretary of the Army, but also to the Veteran’s Administration, to our men and women in uniform, to our country. I certainly do remember that trip to Bosnia, and as Togo said, there was a saying around the White House that if a place was too small, too poor, or too dangerous, the president couldn't go, so send the First Lady. That’s where we went.

I remember landing under sniper fire. There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base. (Hillary, Chelsea, Sinbad and Cheryl Crow!... Honestly!)

But it was a moment of great pride for me to visit our troops, not only in our main base as Tuzla, but also at two outposts where they were serving in so many capacities to deactivate and remove landmines, to hunt and seek out those who had not complied with the Dayton Accords and put down their arms, and to build relationships with the people that might lead to a peace for them and their children.

McClatchy Watch has more on Hillary's dangerous drop down into Kosovo.

Odd that she didn't mention sniper fire in her "Living History" autobiography.

    Clinton 'misspoke' on Bosnia trip
By ANN SANNER, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - Hillary Rodham Clinton's campaign said she "misspoke" last week when she said she had landed under sniper fire during a trip she took as first lady to Bosnia in March 1996. The Obama campaign suggested it was a deliberate exaggeration on Clinton's part.

Clinton often cites the goodwill trip she took with her daughter and several celebrities as a part of her foreign policy experience.

During a speech last Monday about Iraq, she said of the trip: "I remember landing under sniper fire. There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base."

According to an AP story at the time, Clinton was placed under no extraordinary risks on that trip. And one of her companions on it, comedian Sinbad, told The Washington Post he has no recollection either of the threat or reality of gunfire.

When asked Monday about the New York senator's recent remarks on the trip, Clinton spokesman Howard Wolfson pointed to Clinton's previous written account in her book, "Living History" in which she described a shortened welcoming ceremony at Tuzla Air Base, Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Clinton wrote: "Due to reports of snipers in the hills around the airstrip, we were forced to cut short an event on the tarmac with local children, though we did have time to meet them and their teachers and to learn how hard they had worked during the war to continue classes in any safe spot they could find."

"That is what she wrote in her book," Wolfson said. "That is what she has said many, many times and on one occasion she misspoke."

The written account in Clinton's book contradicts the comments she made last Monday about the welcoming ceremony.

Just after her speech last Monday, she reaffirmed the account of running from the plane to the cars when she was asked about it by reporters at a news conference. She said was moved into the cockpit of the C-17 cargo plane as they were flying into Tuzla Air Base. "Everyone else was told to sit on their bulletproof vests," Clinton told reporters. "And we came in, in an evasive maneuver. ... There was no greeting ceremony, and we basically were told to run to our cars. Now, that is what happened."

A spokesman for rival Barack Obama's campaign questioned whether Clinton misspoke, saying her comments came in what appeared to be prepared remarks for her speech on Iraq. The Obama campaign statement contained a link to a text of Clinton's speech that is still posted on her campaign Web site including the account of running to the cars.

Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor said in a written statement that Clinton's Bosnia story "joins a growing list of instances in which Senator Clinton has exaggerated her role in foreign and domestic policymaking."

The Obama campaign statement also links to a CBS news video taken from her Bosnia trip and posted on YouTube, which shows Clinton and her daughter, Chelsea, walking across the tarmac from a large cargo plane, smiling and waving, and stopping to shake hands with Bosnia's acting president and greet an 8-year-old girl.

Chelsea Clinton has been campaigning with her father and actor Sean Astin across Indiana. Reader Christopher U. e-mailed this morning that at one of her speaking events last night in Bloomington, she was asked about the trip she and her imaginary sniper fire-dodging mom made to Tuzla, Bosnia. It appears that Chelsea is continuing the Tuzla charade, despite her mom’s admission that she “misspoke”.

    Oh, dear: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/25/us...us&oref=slogin

Last night Chelsea Clinton came to Bloomington, IN to stump for her mother at a Hillblazers event. What I thought was an irrelevant question and answer now has entirely more relevance. At one point in the evening a man asked a seemingly meaningless question about she and her mom dodging sniper fire in Bosnia (I hadn’t seen the reports about the lie yet). The man wanted to know specifically how they were able to stay alive. What was her answer? “The brave men of our Military and the Secret Service.” After this the commentary between the man and her became incomprehensible to me as she had a mic and he did not.
I find it interesting the Chelsea was also peddling the same story last night about being protected from non-existent sniper fire. I can’t find video on YouTube but that doesn’t mean it isn’t out there.

Here’s the video of Chelsea Clinton’s Tuzla remarks that I mentioned this morning. You’ll find the exchange in the last two minutes of the WISH-TV clip. Indeed-ly doodly, just as Christopher e-mailed me, Chelsea’s response to how she survived the “sniper fire” was to disingenously pay tribute to the military and Secret Service. She then wriggles out of the uncomfortable situation by chastising the questioner for focusing on the past instead of on “today” and how her heroic mom would fix the Balkans in the present. Because, like, you know, um, her mom has unquestioned, courageous leadership experience on these issues, you know.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEB2P8DNE08

    Transcript:

QUESTION: Can you tell us how you and your mom avoided the sniper fire in Bosnia in March of 1996 (audience members groan)?

CHELSEA: Uh, we were well-protected by our United States military and the United States Secret Service.

QUESTION: Was there sniper fire going out at the airport? Did they have to cancel the welcoming ceremony there at the airport?

CHELSEA: Well sir, (nervous laugh), I think that my mother’s on record as having talked about this and I support what she said. I mean, I was there as well and I’m so honored (puts hand to heart) that I was there (audience applause).

But sir, I mean, I’m happy to talk about the current state of the Balkans and what my mother says about the current state of affairs because I think that most people here are interested in what we’re going to do about the world today and the world tomorrow.
Poor girl. Poor, poor girl. She can’t help her DNA.

But you know, it’s only nature that Clintonian whoppers will slip out of the mouth when you, your mom, and your dad speak “millions of words a day!”

    Hillary on 60 Minutes:
'Voters Are Tired of People Who Lie to Them'

    By Tim Graham | March 25, 2008 - 14:28 ET

    http://newsbusters.org/blogs/tim-gra...e-who-lie-them

Now that the major media have acknowledged en masse that Hillary Clinton lied shamelessly about landing in Bosnia to sniper fire, it seemed like the right moment to remember Mrs. Clinton’s claims about honesty and truthfulness in the famous Steve Kroft 60 Minutes interview in 1992 – not the part that aired in 1992, mind you, but a different set of snippets that aired on February 1, 1998, twelve days after the Monica Lewinsky scandal broke.

In these clips, pulled out from our archives for our book Whitewash, Hillary proclaimed "voters are tired of people that lie to them" and lectured about the Bible to Kroft as they discussed Bill Clinton’s alleged adultery, "You know, there are ten commandments, not one. And one of them is, ‘Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.’" [Audio available here.]

Here’s an excerpt from Whitewash that offers more detail:

The new material 60 Minutes released in 1998 showed that Slippery Hillary had been sitting next to Slick Willie that day back in 1992. In a pickle, not only could Hillary lie, but she could share her husband’s chutzpah in supposedly standing up for the truth against all those other liars out there.

In the new excerpts, Kroft directly asked Hillary about how they defined "problems" in their marriage: "What does it mean in America in 1992, that you had ‘difficulties’?" Hillary struggled to stay vague: "We’ve had problems. We’ve had difficulties, in, in the past. And I agree with Bill that we—we think that’s between us." Fair enough, but then she went for the zinger: "We don’t owe anyone else besides each other the honesty that we’ve tried to bring as we’ve worked these problems out."

She also said, "Part of what I believe with all my heart is that the voters are tired of people that lie to them. They’re tired of people who act like something they’re not." Like acting like you have an Arkansas accent?

In another snippet out of the archives, Kroft suggested that Bill’s attractiveness to women was a political problem, and Hillary grew snippy: "You know, you are very good, Steve. You ask the same question nine or ten or twelve different ways and it—and—and I don’t mean to be avoiding the question," which is precisely what she was trying to do.

She chose instead to moralize: "If character only revolves around one question—which is what you’re asking in the press—that’s a shame, you know, because there are a lot of other questions that are, if not more important, certainly equally important. You know, there are ten commandments, not one. And one of them is, ‘Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.’"

It was the quintessential Hillary Rodham Clinton moment.

Asked about her husband’s violations of the Sixth Commandment, Hillary had responded by accusing their critics of violating the Eight Commandment. It was "creepy and arrogant intimidation," National Review’s Kate O’Beirne commented when we interviewed her for this book. "‘Don’t dare believe these irresponsible charges.’ It was intimidation."

So Hillary essentially saying she was frightened in Bosnia (I sure would be) is news worthy but Cheney saying he doesn't give a damn what the American public thinks isn't? http://thinkprogress.org/2008/03/19/cheney-poll-iraq/

Oh, wait, my bad, he's a Republican. Maybe if Hillary said it it would get mentioned here. Maybe? Ha! If Hillary said she didn't care what Americans thought she'd be strung up as some uncaring *****. Moreso than she already has. If that's possible.

    CBS Hits Hillary Again
    By John Stephenson
    March 25, 2008 - 22:55 ET

Just as Noel Sheppard and Rich Noyes noted rare kudos to the "better late than never" coverage done by CBS in exposing Hillary's fabrications on her Bosnia trip as First Lady, I too was shocked that a major news outlet was actually giving the story coverage. I know that many Newsbusters readers were as well.

Be prepared to be doubly shocked. CBS did follow-up coverage with video again tonight. (video ) http://stoptheaclu.com/archives/2008...per-fire-lies/

Hillary had originally hyped her foreign policy experience with a lie that she landed there under sniper fire and that the welcoming committee was cancelled. Newsbusters exposed the lie and CBS video surfaced showing the world beyond a shadow of a doubt that Hillary was caught in a lie.

She is now spinning and back pedaling double-time, however she isn't doing it very well. She doesn't seem to know when to stop digging. She is now coming out with even more outrageous lies like, "for the first time in 12 or so years I misspoke.'' I think she should try that crying trick again.

    http://newsbusters.org/blogs/john-st...-hillary-again

As much as I would like to applaud CBS for finally doing it's job covering Hillary Clinton's "memories" of her trip to Bosnia, I have no doubt that, if she were running unopposed in the primaries, this story would never have been covered or dismissed with as little coverage as possible. Only for the fact that the media has a new favorite - Obama - is Hillary given any negative scrutiny at all by the MSM. I give CBS a one handed applause...

May I remind everyone that CBS didn't expose the story? (Until tonight, I didn't realize that CBS was taking credit for the story.) Newsbusters has been talking about this for a while, not to mention the people who were in Bosnia that day, and who'd heard Hillary's Tale. I happened to see O'Reilly tonight, and Colonel Hunt was on, and he was in chrage of the landing. He was not happy with Madame ...

Suddenly the news media is "discovering" that the Clintons have been telling whoppers for years ... and I'll bet some reporter will win a Pulitzer for the same stories that Newsbusters has been talking about for years.

Save the Newsbusters headlines from last week, especially the ones about Obama -- they'll show up in October, and the old media will claim they've exposed those stories also.
