[b]Retrials granted after discovery of drug-abusing judge
    By Michelle Malkin • December 1, 2011 02:28 PM

This is just unconscionable. I’ve kept you up to date for years on the Christian-Newsom murder case, which received scant national media attention, but touched countless Americans across the country who have not forgotten the crimes.

The latest? After four years of agonizing trials, the families of the young murder victims must go through hell again.

All thanks to a reckless, drug-abusing judge: http://www.wbir.com/news/article/193...ource=nletter-

Special Judge Jon Kerry Blackwood has granted the motion for new trials for all four of the defendants convicted in the murders of Channon Christian and Chris Newsom. The judge announced his decision just after 1 pm Thursday. The trials of the four defendants were presided over by former Judge Richard Baumgartner, who was removed from the bench after admitting he had a drug addiction.

The file of the TBI investigation outlined evidence that Baumgartner was likely impaired while presiding over those trials. The evidence included Baumgartner’s abuse of hydrocodone, oxycodone, and oxycontin. Baumgartner illegally obtained drugs from addicts, some of them had been in his courtroom. Judge Blackwood was visibly upset as he talked about the decision he was about to make.
    Baumgartner was disbarred in October.

What a hellish, hellish mess he has made.

There needs to be more checks and balances with our judges. They hold life and death in their hands, yet they are elected year after year and no one holds them accountable. A thorough vetting needs to be done before every single election. They are human and they get into trouble just like everyone else. Background checks and drug testing for judges. That may sound impossible to enforce, but just look at the power these people have!! There are more corrupt judges than anyone realizes!

    ...

The poor families. I am usually not for civil lawsuits, but in this case I would be supportive of the family suing the judge for the mental anguish having to relive the horror yet again will cause.

    ...

When a judge is wronged they can literally take everything a family has, tracts of land, houses, cars, everything.

When a judge wrongs, they leave the bench.

    ...

There must be a special place in h e l l for people in positions of authority who abuse others like this. To think that all of the defendents who sat in his court will have to be re-tried, not just the animals that committed the atrocities to Christian and Newsom. That dirtbag judge should be in jail with them.

Not to hijack the thread, but I live in Durham where the Duke Lacrosse debacle happened, the relevance being former DA Mike Nifong is the same kind of scum: He abused his position of authority at great expense to others, including his own family. That dirtbag is in jail.

Lord, I feel for the families that are going to have to relive this nightmare

    ...

Was the Jury on drugs? how about the defense? or the prosecutor? or even the bailif? The jusry heard the evidence and made a decision. Unless they can show that the judge’s impairment caused a wrong ruling or bad instructions to the jury, I can’t see a reason for a new trial.

    ...

It doesn’t take much for a defense attorney to start screaming bloody murder is one I or T isn’t as it should be, and a new trial is demanded! The slugs on trial have more rights than those they killed or the families of those killed!

    ...

Of course, the case never got national attention because the victims were white and the killers were black. Reverse the races and the Reverends of Nothing Jesse Jackass and Al Dimwit would be leading riots. Plus, it would be the leading story for weeks.

    ...

Thank you for posting this, Michelle. The national media has purposely ignored this story. We here in Knoxville are just beside ourselves with anger and disbelief. I don’t know how the families got through the first trials, so I can’t even fathom how they’ll be able to muster the strength to endure this again.

When they were describing on the radio what they did to Channon Christian and Chris Newsom, local newsman Dave Foulk summed it up by saying: “Sometimes you wonder where the love of God was.” That’s how heinous these crimes were.

    ...

Question – Did the judge make any legal errors? If not, then there is no reason for new trials.

Brutal Double-Murderer Eligible for Parole 7 Years After Tortures, Murders

August 13, 2014 By Greg Campbell

Please sign the petition to keep this monster behind bars https://www.change.org/petitions/ten...ffender-473393

In early January of 2007, a young man and woman were abducted from a parking lot, tortured, sexually assaulted and brutally murdered. The murders of Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom went widely underreported. Many have felt that this was due to the nature of the crime - Christian and Newsom were murdered by black assailants and the victims were white.

Thanks to a revolving-door American penal policy, one of the murderers may soon be out of prison for “good behavior.”

The Knoxville, Tennessee, couple were abducted from an apartment parking lot. Channon Christian, 21, and Christopher Newsom, 23, were murdered slowly and painfully by five people. Christian was, reportedly, tortured for hours and repeatedly sexually assaulted over and over again. While still alive, she was scrubbed with bleach and had it poured down her throat to try and conceal the DNA evidence. She was then tied and placed in trash bags while still alive and she slowly suffocated.

Newsom was sodomized by an object and also raped by an individual. His body was discovered near a railroad track and had been stripped, bound and gagged and shot in the back of the head and lit on fire.

The news trickled to the public, but there were no riots. No calls from Jesse Jackson to condemn the crime; there were no cries of outrage from the nation’s liberals who call for peace and tolerance. Instead, the case went widely unreported by mainstream media outlets.

Years later, this same attempt to avoid unpleasant racial narratives has prompted the mainstream media to routinely refuse to report on the so-called “knockout game” phenomenon - a “game” where people will punch unsuspecting people while a friend films it. The culprits are often inner-city black youths and the victims are often white. Still the mainstream media has remained eerily quiet on the details surrounding this sickening phenomenon.

After numerous legal maneuverings, the five murderers remain at different levels of incarceration. However, Vanessa Coleman, the lone female in the group, has had time shaved off for “good behavior” and the families of the victims are speaking out against the possibility of her parole.

Coleman is set to appear before a parole board in October. Coleman was supposed to be eligible for parole in 2017, when she would have served 30% of her 35 year sentence. However, thanks to lenient penalties, Coleman has received 16 days shaved off her sentence each month for “good behavior” and now is eligible for parole after serving a fraction of her sentence.

Meanwhile, Christian and Newsom remain dead and the families remain devastated from having been robbed of their loved ones.

A petition has been drawn up at change.org calling for parole to be denied. The petition details the horrors the duo endured as they were tortured and murdered. It’s strong stuff.

While it’s laudable that people have gotten involved in announcing their support for a denial of parole, the question remains: What has become of our “justice” system?

35 years for the gruesome murder of two innocent people? 35 years for stealing away all that Christian and Newsom ever were or every could be? 35 years?! To add insult to injury, we are actually discussing Coleman’s release after 7 years? 7?!

She’s only obliged to serve 30% of her sentence; meanwhile, Newsom and Christian remain dead.

She gets half-a-month shaved off her sentence each month that she demonstrates “good behavior.” It’s a relief to know that she hasn’t brutally raped, sodomized, suffocated, shot or incinerated anybody recently. For that we should, what, give her the reward of freedom?

This is nauseating to think that the taxpayers of Tennessee are paying to keep a roof over the heads and food in the bellies of these monsters. It’s even more nauseating and horrifying to know that someday soon, one of these monsters will have “earned” her freedom back and can be out on the streets that good citizens walk each day.

Deny Parole to Vanessa Coleman, Offender #473393

    Daniel Frye
    Knoxville, TN

On the evening of January 6, 2007, Christopher Newsom and his girlfriend Channon Christian made dinner plans and then were to go to a friend’s house to watch a movie. They would never be seen alive again. Now one of their killers is eligible for parole.

When Chris went to pick Channon up at a friend’s apartment complex, they were carjacked by multiple assailants. What followed was one of the most heinous, gruesome, and senseless crimes in Tennessee history. The couple were taken to a house in East Knoxville and held against their will where they were brutally tortured and raped for hours.

The details of their torture are so graphic and heartbreaking that I won’t go into much detail beyond this: After being tortured, Christopher Newsom was killed execution style by multiple gunshots before his attackers poured gasoline on his body and set him on fire. Channon Christian had bleach poured down her throat and on her body before being wrapped in plastic bags and placed in a garbage can in the kitchen of the house—all of this while she was still alive. Her last minutes on earth were spent slowly suffocating in a garbage can.

The five people responsible for these heinous crimes are: Lemaricus Davidson, Letalvis Cobbins, George Thomas, Vanessa Coleman and Eric Boyd. Boyd was given 18 years and the others will likely remain behind bars for the rest of their lives but incredibly, Vanessa Coleman had her sentence reduced by a third after a retrial and is set to go before the Tennessee Board of Paroles in early December, 2014.

Vanessa Coleman went into prison with a 35 year sentence. However, due to prison overcrowding she has to serve only 30% of her sentence before being eligible for a parole hearing. In addition to her sentence being effectively reduced by 70% she has been accumulating additional time toward an early release, up to a possible 192 days per year for good behavior.

During the course of Coleman's trial evidence was presented from her diary entry dated 3 days after the murder. For her part in the torture, rape, and murders she wrote:
“I’ve had one HELL OF AN ADVENTURE since I’ve been in the big TN. It’s a crazy world these days! But I love the fun adventures and lessons that I’ve learned. Its going to be a long interesting year! Ha! Ha!”
Please sign this petition and help the families of Christopher Newsom and Channon Christian keep Vanessa Coleman, Offender #473393 in prison for as long as possible.

I've thought a lot about these two young people and the horrible way they died.

What if they had been my son or daughter ? I would never be the same !

I would live with that nightmare the moment I got up until the moment I went to bed. Then they would be in my dreams. This is something a parent would never get over.

When we have to listen to the likes of Al Sharpton and others spout all their racism I'd like to have a this picture and yell what about these two kids who were just going out for an innocent date ! Do I blame all blacks for doing this to these kids ? No, of course not. Blacks were just as infuriated over what happened to these young folks. Overall, though, where was the outrage by the news media and others. This crime was never mentioned, except locally. Why are conservatives outraged over liberals and race baiters ? Show them this picture.

Today (12/10) is the day that Vanessa Coleman goes in front of the parole board, for those of you in the Knoxville area, I hope you will be there to show your support, and for those who aren't, I hope that you will keep the Newsoms and Christians in your prayers.
    .

This crime was committed by 5 people-without each of them it couldn't have been carried out. Vanessa had more than one opportunity to do the right thing. She could have been a hero, she could have saved Channon, and even possibly Chris' life. But she didn't. She held Channon prisoner while the 4 men went and killed Chris, and no one can convince me that she didn't help deliver the beating to Channon's head that caused her brain to bruise from the sheath to the stem, or didn't deliver the kicks to Channon's vaginal area because she was mad her boyfriend had raped her-after which she had sex with him on the living room floor. Her "big adventure in the big TN" that she bragged "you shoulda heard that white girl screamin' fo her daddy"

I'm really confused as to how a person can get 192 days a year off their sentence for "good behavior." Yeah, their behavior is good when they are in a cage being supervised-but let us NEVER forget what Vanessa Coleman and her friends did.....
