Well, JolieRouge, I actually agree with you here. Let me be clear, I am NOT anti-vaccine. I just think we are injecting far too many of them into our kids.
My son has autism, and I have done a LOT of reading about this (on the internet AND many books and studies). Now please don't flame me, anyone, because I don't have the time to go into all the details and studies, etc. But before anyone makes a decision, they should read Evidence of Harm, by David Kirby. This is 500 pages of thrilling, chilling . . . statistics! Sounds impossible, huh? Believe me, it's true. I already knew that my son had changed drastically at 2 points in his young life; once right before his 2nd birthday, and once right before his 3rd Halloween. However, I was always skeptical about people who said it had to do with vaccines. (He didn't change right after the MMR, which is what people were mostly pointing to at the time.) But when I read about the flu shots and how they continue to have mercury in them, I went and looked at his shot schedule. And there it was; his behavior had changed immediately after receiving flu shots! He has never been the same again, and it hurts to think that I was trying to be a good mother and actually injured him.
I know all the arguments the vaccine-pushers use! Not ALL children react badly to these shots because not all children have a genetic susceptibility to heavy metals. It's like this; some people smoke 2 packs a day for 30 years and don't get lung cancer. Others smoke 1 pack a day for 10 years and end up talking thru a hole in their throat.
As for the statement some doctor made in one of the articles, that by choosing not to vaccinate, you're also making a choice to endanger the person who sits next to you, BULL! If that person next to you is vaccinated, how can they be affected by your child's possible illness?! That's baloney! (I'm using the polite term.)
I am not against vaccines in general, but I am against the huge increase in the number of vaccines we give our kids. Back in the '80's, we gave our kids around 8 vaccines by the time they were 2 yrs. old. (My numbers may not be exact, but they're only off by a tiny percentage.) The incidence of autism was very low, with some studies saying 1 in a 1,000 kids, and others saying 1 in 10,000. During the 90's, the number of vaccines we were told to give our children dramatically increased, to around 22 by the time they were 2 yrs. old. And the number of cases of autism and other neurological disorders soared to what it is now; 1 out of 166 or 1 out of 150, depending on which study you read. There is much evidence that shows that this is not coincidence. Each shot had a tiny bit of mercury in it, and no one bothered to add up all those bits of mercury as the number of shots increased. This has resulted in disaster for many, many children.
Vaccine companies keep pushing new and more vaccines to "prevent terrible epidemics." Here is something to think about. Do you remember "terrible epidemics" back in the 80's, when kids just got a few vaccines? NO? Well, we certainly have one NOW, and it is autism!

It depends on what state you live in. In some states (Maine included) you can state "philosophical reasons" instead of just religious reasons.

thanx
You know my kids have so far gotten all the shots that they are offered but I said years ago to my now ex hubby that it was killing the kids immune systems and I believed that was why alot of kids were getting things like Asthma and stuff and a couple weeks later turned around and read and article in a magazine that basically said the same thing
Mom I miss you already

I probably will still get them though.

NJ parents try to block vaccine mandate
By LINDA A. JOHNSON, Associated Press Writer
Fri Dec 7, 8:38 PM ET
TRENTON, N.J. - Parents concerned about possible vaccine dangers and government intrusion are trying to block New Jersey from becoming the first state to require flu shots for preschoolers.
The Public Health Council on Monday is set to consider whether New Jersey should require flu shots as well as three additional vaccines. If approved, New Jersey would become the first state to require annual flu shots for children attending licensed preschool or day care centers.
State health department officials also want to require a pneumococcal vaccine for preschoolers, a booster shot to fight whooping cough for sixth-graders, and meningitis shots for school children as young as 11.
According to deputy health commissioner Dr. Eddy Bresnitz, the new requirements already have been approved by the state health department and Gov. Jon S. Corzine; they are expected to be rubber-stamped by the Council on Monday.
Bresnitz said the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention supports the new requirements and that public health officials in other states are watching and likely to follow suit.
Bresnitz said he's convinced the vaccines will reduce the incidence of the diseases, preventable hospitalizations, and the need for parents to stay home with sick children. "It's a great day for public health in New Jersey," he said.
But some parents say there is inadequate proof the vaccines are safe and effective. At a Statehouse news conference Friday, about a dozen parents protested the new requirements and urged people to call the governor's office to ask him to stop Monday's vote.
"This will be the first jurisdiction anywhere in the world to make the flu shot mandatory" for school attendance, said Jon Gilmore, a board member of Advocates for Children's Health Affected by Mercury Poisoning, or ACHAMP. He blames his 7-year-old son's autism on vaccines.
Bresnitz said he didn't know whether jurisdictions outside this country have required flu shots for school kids.
Parents on Friday also urged support for a bill that would give parents a right to "philosophical objection" to vaccine mandates. The bill has been sitting in a committee for four years without action.
"It is not right for the government and unelected councils to dictate what we put into our children," said Sue Collins, co-founder of the New Jersey Alliance for Informed Choice in Vaccination.
Corzine, asked about the mandates Friday, said he didn't "want to speak to the specifics."
Several parents noted that unlike other common vaccines, most of the influenza vaccine available contains mercury, a toxic heavy metal that has been widely blamed by parents as a cause of autism, despite the lack of any such evidence.
A few speakers also said there's no research showing that it is safe to give children all the vaccines required today — more than 30 for New Jersey children. "They're really being treated as guinea pigs, and not all children can handle all vaccines," said Assemblywoman Charlotte Vandervalk, R-Bergen, sponsor of the philosophical objection bill.
The new vaccines New Jersey backs are recommended by the CDC, the American Academy of Pediatrics and other medical groups.

FDA warns doctors about Glaxo rotavirus vaccine
Lauran Neergaard, Ap Medical Writer – Mon Mar 22, 5:00 pm ET
WASHINGTON – U.S. health officials urged pediatricians Monday to temporarily stop using one of two vaccines against a leading cause of diarrhea in babies, after discovering that doses of GlaxoSmithKline's Rotarix were contaminated with bits of an apparently benign pig virus.
Glaxo's vaccine has been used in millions of children worldwide, including 1 million in the U.S., with no signs of safety problems — and the pig virus isn't known to cause any kind of illness in people or animals, said Dr. Margaret Hamburg, commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration.
But vaccines are supposed to be sterile, and because there is a competing vaccine against diarrhea-causing rotavirus that has tested clean — Merck's RotaTeq — the FDA decided to err on the side of caution.
"We don't want to scare parents," Hamburg told reporters. "This was a difficult decision for us to make because there is no evidence at this time that there is a risk to patients who have received this vaccine, and we know there are real benefits for children to be vaccinated against rotavirus."
Rotavirus causes severe diarrhea and is a leading child killer in developing countries. In the U.S., with better health care, about 55,000 children a year were hospitalized for rotavirus infections and several dozen died each year before vaccination began — with Merck's vaccine in 2006 and Glaxo's in 2008.
Glaxo said Monday that regulators abroad have decided not to change how Rotarix is used while scientists probe the relevance of the discovery.
A group of scientists testing a new way to detect viruses in a variety of products stumbled onto fragments of genetic material — broken pieces of DNA — from what's called porcine circovirus-1 in Rotarix and alerted Glaxo, which confirmed the findings and in turn alerted FDA, Hamburg said.
Rotarix, an oral vaccine, is made from a weakened strain of human rotavirus that has to be grown inside living cells before being purified into a vaccine dose. Glaxo uses a line of monkey kidney cells, or vero cells. Hamburg said the pig virus DNA fragments have been found in Glaxo's cell bank, meaning they were present from the vaccine's earliest development. How the original contamination occurred is under investigation.
Merck's competing rotavirus vaccine RotaTeq is made by a very different process, and FDA's testing showed no sign of the pig virus in it.
It's not the first time unwanted viruses have been discovered in vaccines. Best known is a monkey virus that contaminated some polio vaccine in the 1950s; years later, scientists investigated if the SV40 virus might have increased vaccine recipients' risk of later-in-life cancer but concluded it didn't.
"We live in a world that's teeming with microbes," Hamburg said, but until now this particular pig virus is not one that FDA thought vaccine makers needed to check their products against.
Parents should switch to the Merck vaccine for now — it requires three doses instead of Glaxo's two — because rotavirus is too serious a disease to ignore, said Dr. William Schaffner, a vaccine specialist at Vanderbilt University who was briefed on FDA's decision.
He's bracing for calls from worried parents and will tell them that "this has been an extraordinarily safe vaccine," and that the discovery is "a consequence of our improved science and ability to detect things that we never could before."

Japan Stops Some Vaccinations After Deaths
By Todd Neale, Staff Writer, MedPage Today; Published: March 07, 2011
Japanese health officials have suspended the use of two pediatric vaccines as a precaution following the deaths of four young children, according to multiple media reports. The Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare has said that Pfizer's Prevnar and Sanofi Pasteur's ActHIB cannot be used until a panel of experts concludes an investigation into whether there is a causal link between the vaccines and the deaths, which reportedly occurred in children ages 6 months to 2 years.
The panel is expected to issue a report tomorrow.
A spokesperson for Sanofi Pasteur confirmed in an e-mail that, on March 4, the Japanese health authorities suspended use of ActHIB after the deaths of four children, three of whom received ActHIB in conjunction with at least one other vaccine from another manufacturer.
Three of the four infants received Prevnar and ActHIB together, and at least two also received a combination vaccine against diphtheria, pertussis, and tetanus, according to Reuters.
The Sanofi spokesperson said that the company is fully cooperating with the Japanese investigation, noting that ActHIB has not been recalled. "To our knowledge to date, there is no reason for such a recall, nor for the customers to return the product," she wrote in an e-mail.
A representative from Pfizer wrote in an e-mail, "Pfizer thoroughly reviews and continually monitors all of its medicines and vaccines as safety is our top priority. No causal relationship has been established between the events reported in Japan and vaccination to date. We are conducting a thorough evaluation of these cases in cooperation with the relevant regulatory health authorities."
A similar incident happened last year in the Netherlands, where health officials concluded that Prevnar was not responsible for the deaths of three vaccinated infants, the Reuters report noted.

Parents Warned About Mail Order Chicken Pox Lollipops
By Leezel Tanglao | ABC News – 1 hr 11 mins ago
Authorities and doctors are warning parents who want to avoid chicken pox vaccines for their children that a new mail-order scheme to share lollipops licked by children infected with the disease as a way to create immunity in their kids is not only unsafe but illegal.
“Can you imagine getting a package in the mail from this complete stranger that you know from Facebook because you joined a group, and say here, drink this purported spit from some other kid?” U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee Jerry Martin told The Associated Press.
News reports from Phoenix’s KPHO-TV and Nashville’s WSMV-TV this week looked into groups forming on social media sites like Facebook that offer ways to get “natural immunity” from chicken pox by deliberately exposing children to the disease.
Concerns about the vaccine range from worries about whether some of the ingredients are harmful to children, to fears that the vaccine itself is ineffective and would only be creating only short-term immunity to the disease.
Facebook groups such as “Find a Pox Party in Your Area” have popped up — offering ways for people to connect and share the virus through infected items, according to the TV news reports.
Doctors warn that the practice is not only impractical, but it’s dangerous. Isaac Thomsen, a specialist in pediatric infectious diseases at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, told the AP that shipping the infected items is “theoretically possible” but “probably not an effective way to transmit it. It typically has to be inhaled.”
But Thomsen also warned that the lollipops could carry other more dangerous viruses, like hepatitis.
It is also federal crime to send diseases, viruses or a contagion through the post office or any mail transport service and carries a sentence between less than a year to 20 years if convicted, according to Martin.
In 1995, the chickenpox vaccine, varicella, was approved for use in the United States. Every state requires every child be vaccinated before they can enter day care or school. There are some exceptions that vary state to state, including proof that the child has contracted the virus on his or her own and as parents who refrain from getting their children vaccinated due to religious reasons.

I do want my kid to get chicken pox and not the vaccine because we've had some family reactions to the vaccine, but I would never try to give it to them from a lollipop from a stranger. That's just nuts.
...
I'm not sure who I'm more stunned at: The ones who thought up & made "Chicken Pox Lollipops" or those who might BUY them & give them to their kids??
...
I don't believe in vaccinating kids for everything in the world but this is just plain nuts.
...
I remember when I was a child if someone in the extended family had chickenpox all the parents with kids who had not had it would go visit the sick kid. Most of the family had it by the time they were in 1st grade, but sadly myself and one of my brothers had it twice (kindergarden & 1st grade). Then that stupid shot came out. My youngest brother had the shot and a boost and still got the chicken pox at 13. He got sicker than the rest of us had been when we got it naturally. I never wanted my kids to have the shot after what happened to my brother but the #$%$ schools gave us no choice even though we had our doctor's support and even though they were current on all other vaccinations. While I would have gotten out of that praticular shot if I could have I would never dream of giving my kids a potentially infected piece of candy from a stranger. What idiots.

If the virus survived in the mail, your child would get chicken pox. He or she would get the immunity this way but they would get the virus first - and possibly other things like herpes, as well. Even if you don't trust doctors or the "corporate medical establishment", giving your child a contaminated lollipop that was mailed to you via some Facebook group is just beyond stupid. Even Matt and Trey's South Park episode about chicken pox didn't approach this level of stupidity.
