Excuse me, yes we do! It's Obi Wan Kenobi.

Believe it or not, that's an actual recognized religion in England.

I thought they took the Pledge of Allegiance out of public schools because of the reference to God. It's used in a historical sense in that it was written during our country's founding.

The Pledge of Allegiance didn't originally have the words under God in it. That was added in the 50's. The reason they can't say it using "under God" is because it is pledging allegiance to a nation bound by God. And since the USA is not a religious state it's unconstitutional. It isn't a matter of history, it's endorsing monotheism which is religious in basis.

ETA, I'm not saying it's a good or bad thing, it doesn't bother me either way. It's just the way the the constitution is written.

I think they should've moved back to the old version, then. It's horrible that kids don't know the Pledge of Allegiance these days. Good thing for sports so they learn the Star Spangled Banner.

I remember when we were kids our school day would start off with the Pledge of Allegiance every morning standing next to our desks and we weren't any worse off because of it.

I had to highlight that sports statement b/c my little 7 year old nephew yells play ball each time he hears the National Anthem, lol. We were at my uncle's funeral mass and he was a veteran so they played the anthem at the end of mass and my nephew yells out, "play ball". I almost sh!t! The whole church was in stitches. I guess he lightened up a somber mood.

I agree, seems everyday it was instilled that this is YOUR country and kids don't seem to have that anymore. I say it with my grandkids before we play board games, so they know it.

Here in our area they still pray in school if they want to. The kids that chose to pray meet out front and form a prayer circle. Its really powerful. These are young teens that have made a decision to serve. When the boys were younger they said the pledge of allegiance in school.

I do not like religion in school. Some take it entirely to far. I don't want other people instilling their inturpetation of the Bible on my children. Nor do I want a Catholic teaching my children their version of Christianity. I don't want an atheist teaching my children either. I feel that religion belongs at home and at church. IMO my childrens souls are to important to just hand over to anyone that can get a teaching certificate.

With me feeling this way, I am able to understand how an atheist parent must feel if religion is allowed in school. Or how a Catholic feels, or a muslim. Tolerance is a tough thing have. It requires tongue biting and over looking. It doesn't require pushing your beliefs on others. It does require respect. Respect for another human beings right to choose and pick what they believe without getting beat up for it.
The more you complain, the longer God makes you live.

    Very well said Mary.

My DD's school says the Pledge every morning, they just leave out the 'under God' part and say it as it was originally written.

    Compare and contrast

Kids in Kentucky are fighting to recite the Lord's Prayer at commencement.
    http://hotair.com/archives/the-blog/...d-prayer-down/

Meanwhile, creeping sharia in the public schools continues apace. Seattle is preparing to consider a proposal to accomodate Muslim student prayers.
    http://www.soundpolitics.com/archives/006180.html

In California, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals (the one that outlawed the Pledge of Allegiance for its reference to God) approved putting public school students through Muslim role-playing exercises. http://www.investors.com/editorial/I...issue=20060519

Reciting aloud Muslim prayers that begin with "In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful . . . ."

Memorizing the Muslim profession of faith: "Allah is the only true God and Muhammad is his messenger."

Chanting "Praise be to Allah" in response to teacher prompts.

Professing as "true" the Muslim belief that "The Holy Quran is God's word."

Giving up candy and TV to demonstrate Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting.

Designing prayer rugs, taking an Arabic name and essentially "becoming a Muslim" for two full weeks.

So they are willing to pass a propsal to allow muslim prayers while another community is fighting to be allowed to say their prayer.

What is wrong with this picture ?

Can you imagine the uproar if they tried to teach school children how to recite a rosary; pray the Apostle's Creed or act out the Way of the Cross ??
Laissez les bon temps rouler! Going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than standing in a garage makes you a car.** a 4 day work week & sex slaves ~ I say Tyt for PRESIDENT! Not to be taken internally, literally or seriously ....Suki ebaynni IS THAT BETTER ?
