    Well if this is directed at me. Save your pity. I can assure you it isn't needed. Instead of wasting energy on pity maybe you should focus on being less hateful.

    The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.

    Obama wasn't my first choice of President but man o man you keep making people like me defend him. Maybe if you would lighten up a bit just maybe you could get your point across and people could actually see your side of things. But you won't allow it because you are so freaking hateful about him. If its not your way then its wrong.

    George Washington observed National Day of Prayer.
    It has been part of American History from the time of the Revolution.
    It was made official by Truman.

    I don't like what BHO is doing to my country.

    But the way your little group acts you are the ones that are hateful.

    Why must you try to force others to participate in a religious day of your choosing?

    If the persident prayed, that's great. If not, that's ok too.

    I don't have a "lttle group" but I appreciate you thinking that highly of me. The thing is, it isn't only your country. It is my country also. And many of millions country as well. And unfortunatly for you the majority of this country wanted him to be President of this wonderful country. There is nothing that you can do about it. Instead of being so hateful and wishing him bad, why don't you focus on doing something positive. Good word, even people that agree with you think you take it a bit far. Its nice to be able to discuss everyones differences, but you take it to the extreme and make it personal. I just hope you aren't like this IRL. I sincerly hope this is just your place to let it loose.

    In the Bible it says you are to pray but to do it alone and basically not "brag" about it.

    I feel that prayer is a personal thing. If you choose to pray, wonderful, but why make a show out of it? It's like a personal conversation with you and whoever your higher power is. Just because he didn't make a public show of it does not mean that he didn't have his "conversation" today, just that he didn't go out and brag about it.

    I prayed today too. I pray most every day. I don't feel the need to tell everyone about it though. Should I have taken out an ad??

    In 1952, President Truman established a National Day of Prayer. President Reagan would set the date as the second Thursday in May in 1988. It is a uniquely appropriate holiday for our nation. In 1775, the Continental Congress enjoined the people of the colonies to pray for God’s guidance as they met to chart the course of our nation. Our second president, John Adams, was a theologian. Despite secular humanist arguments, many of our Founding Fathers possessed and articulated their faith’s influence in their public and private affairs. Our national motto is ‘In God We Trust.’

    The earliest European colonists – especially in the British colonies of North America – were settled by people seeking the freedom to practice our Christian faith freely and openly. The first universities in the thirteen colonies were founded to educate ministers – they were seminaries. Public education was an early priority in every colony, the stated purpose of this institution was to ensure that children would be able to read the Bible. Our faith is woven into the Revolution – the Declaration of Independence clearly indicated our Founder’s faith in God and that their endeavor was inspired by Christian thought.

    “all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

    Throughout America’s history – and especially in our darkest moments – Americans have turned to God for strength and to celebrate our unity. Now, more than ever, the Faithful American citizen must celebrate this day. The forces of secular humanism desire nothing more than to extinguish the faith that has sustained our nation through prosperity and adversity. A classic example is the Capitol Visitor Center. For some inexplicable reason, the architects and designers thought that our national motto was ‘E Pluribus Unum’ – out of many, one. Sorry. Our national motto is ‘In God We Trust.’ But the humanist liberal likes the ring of their choice – despite the fact that the first quote refers to the strength of the several states united as one nation. It is not a reference to the myriad and sundry individuals.

    This is the essence of the Day of Prayer. We are a nation founded by a call from God. We have called upon His Wisdom and Mercy in times of peace and in times of conflict. Is it a coincidence that in this present day, when factions and parties and special interests seem to be tearing our nation asunder, the voices of those who continue to call for God to guide this nation have been silenced? I think not.

    Pray for our nation, pray for our leaders, pray for those who mock and revile us.
