i would like to know why 13 and 14 yr olds were "dressing up" in the first place. I thought at that age educating them would be the first priority. secondly many schools have eliminated christmas songs for holiday songs or totally done away with them.

Correct,Jesus is not Caucasian. But when asked a jewish person, like many hispanics, will say they are white. There was a story today on the news about a real life santa who gives away $100,000 each season. He gives people new hundred dollar bills. The people receiving the money were mostly minorities. They did not show santas face. But his hands, neck and side view looked white.

Santa is whatever the person wants him to be. If he is black to some...fine. If not that is ok too. Whatever makes a child happy.

My son is in middle school ... Friday they had "Ugly Holiday Sweater Day" ... you had to have perfect attendance, three Gold Stars ( given by teachers for good behavior ) OR a 3.0 or better - in order to participate. The kids love it.

i bet the kids who were not allowed to participate are not very happy and seeing how some parents are these days, i can see them banging on the principal's door complaining.

I hear everyday that there are not enough hours in a school day to educate the students and that's one of the reason their levels have decreased (there are also other reasons). I have to admit my education was far superior to what my kids got (public schools) and they came to the realization when they were doing their undergraduate work and was able to compare their education to thousands of others from all over the country. There is nothing wrong with having some fun but there has to be moderation and it should not interfere with their learning.

    DiFranco cancels Nottoway retreat
    by John Wirt - December 30, 2013

New Orleans-based singer-songwriter Ani DiFranco has canceled the songwriting and performing retreat she’d scheduled for June at Nottoway Plantation and Resort in White Castle. The retreat’s plantation setting, with its history of slavery, drew a feeding frenzy of angry web posts over the weekend and condemnation from websites such as Jezebel and Change.org.

A performer long identified with social activism, DiFranco announced the cancelation Sunday via a lengthy statement posted at her website, http://www.righteousbabe.com. DiFranco’s response reads in part: “I have heard you: all who have voiced opposition to my conducting a writing and performing seminar at the Nottoway Plantation. … I do not wish to reinvent the Righteous Retreat at this point to eliminate the stay at the Nottoway Plantation. At this point I wish only to cancel. … My focus for the Righteous Retreat was on creating an enriching experience that celebrated a diversity of voice and spirit.”

The singer’s Friday show at the Varsity Theatre in Baton Rouge and her Saturday concert at the House of Blues in New Orleans will go on as scheduled.

Why don't they use all that energy to eradicate all the slavery in the world today?

    ..

Dear singer, there were slaves all over the United States. Please go to a country where there were none, and stay.

    ..

You can't change history, only learn from it. So she accomplishes ... absolutely nothing.

    ...

She's N.O. based and didn't realize that (over 100 years ago) there were slaves at plantations? These groups and their websites are so illogical and simplistic it's actually funny! In their efforts to be "better" than others they, obviously, seldom consider the whole picture and really miss some opportunities. I wonder if she has considered the fact that the slave market in New Orleans was the largest in the country. I guess this means that she can't live or perform in N.O. anymore or, for that matter, most of North and South America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia - all participated in slavery at one time during their history. I hear there's an untainted room at one of the polar icecaps for this "righteous babe."

    ..

This singer has the right to not play where ever she doesn't want to. I have the right to not listen to her play. I am excerising my rights, now and into the future. Because she appears to have some "white" in her genes, her ancestors may have been a part of the "slave" trade. I find this possiblity too difficult to endure, so I will not listen to her play.

I wonder what holder, obama, sharpton and all the others will say about this since they are always screaming about racial discrimination...to make matters worse they are going after an innocent child. MSNBC and the people who work for them seem to think that they can say anything to anybody for the same things they criticize others for. Do they have their own presidential pardon?

MSNBC Host Makes Fun of Mitt Romney’s Black Grandson
    The Wrap
By L.A. Ross 12 hours ago

MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry concluded the “What’s So Funny About 2013?” segment of her Sunday show with a chorus of laughter at the black grandson pictured in former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney’s family Christmas photo. The chuckles were directed at baby Kieran – who was adopted by Romney’s son Ben and his wife Andelynne in September.

“One of these things is not like the others, one of these things just isn’t the same,” panelist Pia Glenn offered as a caption for the photo, which the Romneys tweeted on Christmas Eve. (Lyrics of the original Sesame Street song are, “One of these things just doesn’t belong.”)

“And that little baby, front and center, would be the one,” Glenn said.

Comedian Dean Obeidallah joked that the baby is a token.

“It really sums up the diversity of the Republican party and the RNC, where they have the whole convention and they find the one black person.”

Conservative blogs on Monday roundly criticized MSNBC and the panelists for the segment. Commentator Caleb Howe wrote tongue-in-cheek on The Right Scoop: “He’s not a child adopted by loving parents prepared to provide him with a better life in keeping with the family’s values. Nope. He’s just a token. A punchline, not a person.”

Also read: ‘Now with Alex Wagner’ Takes Martin Bashir’s MSNBC Timeslot

“It’s funny because Romney is white and his grandson isn’t, which is obviously hilarious. Because as everyone knows, the races should not mix,” Howe added [emphasis original].

Republican Arizona Sen. John McCain, who ran for president in 2008, also has an adopted child of a different race. McCain’s wife Cindy brought daughter Bridget home after a cyclone relief trip to Bangladesh in 1991.

Glenn acknowledged the controversy on Twitter Monday but fell short of apologizing, instead blaming the producers of the show for springing the photo on her and the panelists.

She wrote in response to a critic, “”Really? You think I’m a producer on the show? You think I chose that photo & new [sic] it was coming?”

“Yes, I sang the song. There are many children in the pic & only 1 black child. I don’t see that as mocking or attacking the baby.”

Harris-Perry and other panelists have thus far remained mum.

Ironically, the segment ends by teasing the next block, an annual “’Look Back in Laughter’ tradition of asking ‘Hey – Was That Racist?’”

If your reaction to that picture was to make fun of a baby - then you might be a racist. Imagine if a CONSERVATIVE panel had made similar remarks ?? The left would have lost their minds.

You know when I first saw that picture, I didn't even notice a black child....I noticed a happy loving family. What a shame that there are those who are always looking for the ugly in people. Grow up for heaven sake ....if more people quit this stuff we wouldn't be so divided. O has done this to our country and he is encouraging the mad libs to do the same.

“It really sums up the diversity of the Republican party and the RNC, where they have the whole convention and they find the one black person.”

they fail to mention the millions of other blacks in the Republican party or the notable people of color (or women) who are marginalized because of their conservative values. Liberals make me sick to my stomach---the biggest lot of hypocrites to walk the face of the Earth. I have lost so much respect for many people in my life who subscribe to this ideology and to this trash network and its hosts and contributors. So sad for our country. We will never solve our nation's biggest problems until we stop thinking in terms of skin color and party and start looking for pragmatic solutions to real problems. It's time to put the ridiculous to bed--including all of these "throw Grandma from the cliff" and "they hate poor people" beliefs forged for generations. That is the politics of charlatans like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, two people who have done more harm to this country than any measure of goodness that they have contributed.

They're standing on the corner and they can't speak English. I can't even talk the way these people talk: Why you ain't, Where you is, What he drive, Where he stay, Where he work, Who you be... And I blamed the kid until I heard the mother talk. And then I heard the father talk. Everybody knows it's important to speak English except these knuckleheads. You can't be a doctor with that kind of crap coming out of your mouth. In fact you will never get any kind of job making a decent living. People marched and were hit in the face with rocks to get an education, and now we've got these knuckleheads walking around.

The lower economic people are not holding up their end in this deal. These people are not parenting. They are buying things for kids. $500 sneakers for what? And they won't spend $200 for Hooked on Phonics.

I am talking about these people who cry when their son is standing there in an orange suit. Where were you when he was 2? Where were you when he was 12? Where were you when he was 18 and how come you didn't know that he had a pistol? And where is the father? Or who is his father?

People putting their clothes on backward: Isn't that a sign of something gone wrong? People with their hats on backward, pants down around the crack, isn't that a sign of something? Or are you waiting for Jesus to pull his pants up? Isn't it a sign of something when she has her dress all the way up and got all type of needles [piercing] going through her body? What part of Africa did this come from? We are not Africans. Those people are not Africans; they don't know a thing about Africa.

With names like Shaniqua, Taliqua and Mohammed and all of that crap, and all of them are in jail. Brown or black versus the Board of Education is no longer the white person's problem. We have got to take the neighborhood back.

People used to be ashamed. Today a woman has eight children with eight different 'husbands' — or men or whatever you call them now.

We have millionaire football players who cannot read.

We have million-dollar basketball players who can't write two paragraphs.

We as black folks have to do a better job.

We have to start holding each other to a higher standard. We cannot blame the white people any longer.

MHP show: 'Sorry about making fun of Romney's grandkid.'
    Minutes later ..
'BUT republicans are super racist though.'

    1:11 PM - 4 Jan 2014
That didn’t take long. Just minutes after a choked-up Melissa Harris-Perry delivered an on-air apology for mocking Mitt Romney’s adopted black grandson, conversation turned to populism and the Tea Party movement. After acknowledging that the Tea Party stands for lower taxes and smaller government, panelist Katrina Vanden Heuvel just had to bring race into the discussion.

“Let’s be honest,” she begins. “There is a race … racism threaded through the right-wing populism, I mean which is not unusual to American right-wing populism.” Ugh. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDnLb...layer_embedded

As blogger Caleb Howe writes: http://therightscoop.com/melissa-har...hosts-apology/

Later in the segment, New York Times editorial writer Robert George suggests that racism played its part in both right wing and left wing populism, even calling out the unions, but Vanden Heuvel will have none of it. “Not today though,” she insists. “Not today.”

No, today, the only racists are in the Republican party. Which is the exact sentiment that led to the segment for which host Melissa Harris-Perry only just apologized this morning.

    And around we go …
The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was passed because Republicans forced Democrats to accept the provision that any entity that discriminates based on race would not be allowed government funding. That's a key component that leftists ignore.

The left also likes to posit the argument that in the aftermath of the Civil Rights Act, Dixiecrats migrated en masse to the Republican Party i.e. the so-called "southern strategy". In fact, of over two dozen prominent Dixiecrats, only three changed parties - Mills Godwin, Strom Thurmond and Jesse Helms.

DEMOCRAT'S DEGRADATE MLK DAY BY ATTACKING BLACK CONSERVATIVES

Democrats launch an all-out attack on Niger Innis, Dr. Ben Carson and yours truly.
They should give some thought to the fights they decide to pick .- Via Herman Cain

So how do Democrats celebrate Martin Luther King Day this year? By attacking black people!

Many of you are familiar with my friend Niger Innis, who is widely recognized as the voice of the Congress of Racial Equality and is currently running for Congress in Nevada’s Fourth Congressional District.

Niger is one of those strange characters who drive liberals crazy – a black conservative. And to judge from their current assault on Niger and other black conservatives with whom he is associated – including me – it is clear that they believe the black conservative is a figure so beneath contempt that it is virtually impossible to go too far in attacking any or all of us.

A press release distributed on Friday by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee lambastes Niger as radical, out-of-touch, extreme and all that sort of typical nonsense. I especially like how the people who passed ObamaCare and have run up more than $7 trillion in new debt over the past five years accuse Niger of having “controversial views.”

I suppose that when conventional wisdom backs insanity, common sense becomes “controversial.” Let’s have more controversy.

But they don’t stop there. In their attempt to smear Niger, the Democrats engage in shameful guilt-by-association by connecting him to two people with whom there is no reason not to be proud of associating. And I know because I’m one of them.

The other is Dr. Ben Carson, and we’ll deal with him first. The Democrats attack Niger for agreeing with Dr. Carson when he said “white liberals are the most racist people out there.” That statement is the truth, and I am glad the DCCC called the public’s attention to it by bringing it up.

But having implied that Dr. Carson is an unworthy human being by virtue of having made this statement, they then go on to imply that Niger is some sort of extremist for saying the following on Sean Hannity’s show: “I think Ben Carson is a hero. He is a wonderful role model. He's a credit to the race, the human race. He’s an outstanding individual.”

Dr. Carson is all of this and more. He overcame long odds as a young person to become a neurosurgeon and broke major ground on the matter of separating twins who are born conjoined at the head. You would think Democrats would recognize the virtue in such a man even if he is not their political ally, especially considering what a fine role model this represents for young black people. But Democrats see nothing but politics in everything, so they not only attack Dr. Carson but imply that anyone who praises him is some sort of extremist.

And that brings us to me. In the press release, Tyrone Gayle of the DCCC says “it’s hard to envision Innis bringing commonsense solutions to the table” because he is – get this – a “Herman Cain acolyte.” First of all, Niger Innis is no one’s “acolyte.” He is a highly intelligent man who thinks for himself and knows what he believes. But he is a friend and he and I have supported each other and continue to do so. So why, DCCC, would his association with me suggest that his ability to offer good ideas is unimaginable?

Oh right, because this is the perfect opportunity for Democrats to recycle lies about my personal life. I’ve already demonstrated that the allegations made against me were lies. We don’t need to go back through that again, but you can click the link if you haven’t already read it.

The DCCC doesn’t care, though. Once someone has been accused of something, especially a black conservative, that’s good enough for them. From that point forward that person is “discredited” and anyone connected to that person can be tarred via the same insinuation.

By the way, if you’re going to have haters, it’s nice to have haters as clumsy as the DCCC. In their tirade against Niger, they mess up and expose the truth, mentioning that he “stated Cain was the victim of racist stereotyping” concerning the lies told about my personal life.

Niger was right. I was. It is a racist stereotype that the black man is some sort of sexual predator, and they were and are happy to see it perpetuated at my expense – even though it’s a total lie – if it means they can label a black conservative who threatens them as “discredited.”

By the way, that will come as news to the 4 million people who listen to The Herman Cain Show and the 4.5 million people who read commentary last month at HermanCain.com. The only thing discredited about me is the slander with which Democrats and a few frightened Republicans attempted to take me down. I did not become president but at the moment I would wager that I’m more influential than Barack Obama.

“If you like your plan, you can keep your plan.” Now that’s how you discredit yourself.

Democrats will never stop playing this tired game as long as they think it’s working. They decided long ago that black people are duty-bound to support them and have no business acting or thinking for themselves. Black conservatives are a threat to them because without the black community supporting them in every election to the tune of 90 percent or better, they cannot win.

So people like Niger Innis, Dr. Ben Carson and me must be attacked and taken down. A successful businessman who is happily married must be “discredited” as some sort of fool and sexual predator. A groundbreaking neurosurgeon must be tarred as a poor role model. And a man who proudly proclaims his association with both of us, while exposing the Democrats’ horrendous policies for what they are, must be portrayed as a wild-eyed extremist as a result.

You want war, Democrats? You got it. Keep attacking us, because truth is on our side. While you can keep trying to make insinuations about the kind of people we are, there is no need for us to make insinuations about what you’ve done to this country. Health care is collapsing, jobs are disappearing, debt is soaring.

Those are facts that everyone can see, and the most damning thing we can say about you is that you’d rather attack us than stop any of the insanity by which you’ve made it all happen.
