The idea is for us to experience everything about Disney.

As you can imagine, it is so much fun. When I did it, I was dressed as a penguin from Mary Poppins. There were 3 of us dressed that way. Honestly, I didn't think we would get much attention because there was a Pluto, Tigger, and Goofy in our group.

I guess because there we three of us we were interesting because we just got mobbed when we entered the park.

    And...let me tell you...someone patted my butt...and I don't think it was a child!!!
LOL....too funny. I worked at Disneyland years and years ago when I was in HS. I was Winnie the Pooh in the Parades and the Park. Let me tell you those suits got hot (do they have the newer cooled ones there now like Orlando?) Because way back when, they didn't.

I was pinched, poked, stepped on, shoved and hugged so tight I thought my head would pop off. Thru it all, you cannot say a word.

Well...I did this almost 9 years ago. And I have heard that some of the suits do have some 'fans' in them now. But, it was definitely hot when I did it as well.

That's why, supposedly, the characters only have half-hour shifts. Sometimes they are only 20 minutes when the weather is really hot. It wouldn't do to have Mickey Mouse passing out from the heat in front of a 4-year old.

Now, they have monitors that walk out with the charactersto help keep them from being mobbed and to walk you backstage, back then, you used to have someone come out to tell you your shift is over. Depending on the heat, you could work 15 minutes or up to 40 if someone forgot to come get you.

The parades were hard because not only were you in the suits, that are not lightweight, but you had to dance too. I did my stint back in 1983-1985. I think minimum wage was $2.85 and Disney paid $5.15. It was the best job out there.

One of my buddies worked in the Castle blowing glass. His parents owned that huge glass store over by Knotts Berry Farm. He used to make me the coolest things.

Yes...we were escorted out and had handlers. I volunteer with a group which puts on the employee events and there is always a handler when we have character talent at one of events.

That sure would have been nice when I worked there, but then again, that was 25 years ago. Still, it was one of the best jobs I ever had. Just to see kids and adults faces light up when they see you.
