WRInsiders closing down-Cash out!
My kids signed up a couple of years ago as an opportunity to get free gift cards and toys thru a post on this board so I want to pass along the info here. I'm sure there are others who had signed up too.
Dear Student:
Effective immediately, Weekly Reader is discontinuing its WR Insiders program. As part of this plan, we will be removing the Survey and Reward Center from our website on March 15th. No further points will be awarded on this site as of February 24th. If you wish to redeem points you have already earned, you must do so before March 15th. Points not redeemed by that date will no longer have any value.
Thank you for participating in the program.

The only problem i sthat there's not much to cash out for. My older son, who joined a while ago, didn't have enough points to get any of the prizes. My daughter, who joined more recently, didn't even have the option of any prizes. She could only get entries into the sweepstakes. It would have been nice if they had given us some warning instead of abruptly shutting down.

I agree. My 12 y.o. did get 2 Nintendo DS games, but the 11 y.o. didn't have enough points for anything. We did not receive any type of notice from them, DS discovered the shut down when he logged on.

My kids joined several years ago. My DD was more active and cashed out for Walmart gift cards, but then they quit offering them. My son cashed out for a Diary of a Wimpy Kid book last week and donated the rest of his points to charity. My DD will probably get a small gift and donate the rest of her points to charity.
I did receive an email about the site closing.

What is it with places shutting down? Shopper's Hotline shut down too! Luckily I had just enough points there to redeem for $50. For WRInsiders, my one son didn't have enough points to get anything (like someone mentioned above, he always cashed out for Wal-Mart gift cards). My other son redeemed his points for a decent prize and still had a lot of points left, but not enough to get anything. Just donated those.
