Does anyone use this? Please explain this to me... My parents get the heating credit, which is basically equal to one month payment to the gas company. They pay the same amount all year, all twelve months. Her payment is to keep the gas tank full. She pays 250.00 a month for gas and she gets the check every year but she still has to pay for gas for 12 months... so in reality she is paying 13 payments every year. I can't seem to get them to understand this, should she be getting money back from the gas company? Because that is how it sounds to me.
Thanks guys!
I really think the gas company is ripping them off.

Thats sounds aweful Littlered1, I do not know anything about gas, here we are electric and woodstoves. If no one knows the answer to your question, call a newspaper in your area and have them write a column on the subject. But besure that your mother isn't paying them back for anything in the past. But from what I hear which is hearsay. That gas is more expensive than electric the way economy is today. Good luck with all that. Would like to hear how it all turns out. Good luck and many blessings.

I've got this for my parents the past 2 years. How it works is if you heat with fuel oil, you will get 100 gallons of fuel oil delivered through your oil company. You dont have to pay for it and it is confirmed through your oil company before delivery.
I use to be able to apply online, but this year they want you to call in. I hope it helped a little.

I am a little confused by your post. I get the home heating credit every year as well. You pay for 12 months as thats like a budget setup. You get the check from the government you use to pay towards the gas bill. How is she paying for 13 months?

She gets the check and sends it to them and my reasoning is that the check should pay for one month heat bill, but she still has to make a payment that month so she is actually making 13 payments in a year counting the check. I thought they were supposed to refund the amount of the check back to the customer at the end of the year but they said it doesn't work that way.
They pay a lot also, her gas payment is almost 250.00 every month and it isn't like it is warm in the house all the time either. And the gas company only delivers gas a couple of times a year so it's not like they are using a ton of gas either.
Thanks!

We use to heat and cook with propane, it isnt cheap. Any method of heating other than wood or a corn burner is expansive. My brother filled his propane and it cost him over a thousand dollars. I can see how your parents pay the 250.00 a month. Maybe they could see about finding an alternative method of heating. My inlaws purchases a corn burner a couple years ago and it saves them thousands a year in heating. I realize that the initial expense is quite a bit, but it is worth it in the long run.
Anyway, just a thought.

Thanks, I guess maybe the price of thier fuel isn't so outrageous after all. I get free heat at my apartment and I wouldn't be able to add another 250.00 to my bills every month. I thought it was a lot. I have heard the stoves that burn corn are very reasonable. Maybe at the end of winter we will do a little shopping around and see what we can find out.
