Louisiana Flood 2016

The reason I have been absent is that I am in the middle of this mess. We have lost our home, our cars, and almost everything we owned. Of my eight siblings, four have also lost their homes along with six nieces and nephews... most had between 3 to 8 feet in their homes. Our community has lost 85# of the homes here. During the flooding they kept opening shelters, each had to be closed and evacuated in turn due to the rising waters.

We are staying at my mom's - along with three other families.

My home is gutted to the ceiling. Everything we owned is piled by the road for the "pickers" to scabble over like jackels. Fighting with FEMA - insurance - mortgage company - AT&T. Depressing beyond words

The rebuild continues. We have ripped out the sheetrock, we had to rip ceiling tiles out of several rooms because the mold in the ductwork spread to the acoustical tiles. So currently my house has no walls, no Plumbing, no AC. The only thing that's going to be left of my home is the brick walls, the concrete foundation, and the roof tiles. And because things can only get better from here, my husband is about to get laid off; and when we went to file our taxes, we discovered that someone has stolen my social security number, & is using it in Arizona - most likely an illegal immigrant. Can they be responsible for some of these bills since they chose to take my identity?

We had hoped to be in our home for Christmas. Not gonna happen. The plumbing has to be reinstalled, the job was not "up to code". The ac/c guys went to Texas chasing work, so that is yet to be installed. The kitchen is still gutted to the walls with nothing installed.

New windows.
New roof once the fall 2017 storm damage was repaired.

It snowed last week

18 months after The Flood. Still not in my home, although things are progressing. My DH was hospitalized for a week. Number One son had a biopsy done, but results came back negative.
Hope to be done by Easter.

You can see my house at the 20 second mark.
The disturbance in the water in front is the roof of the Taurus.

May 2018, still not in my house. Thank God for a FEMA trailer. I never thought it would take this long. Vandals came thru in March destroying much of the work and stealing equipment and supplies. If you think a remodel is stressful - this has been 10 times worse.

Now we prep for the 2018 Storm Season.

Finally.
We have gotten into our home. The FEMA trailer is gone. Have almost no furniture, living out of boxes because the kitchen is not functional, but happy to be under my own roof again.

I can't believe it took 2 YEARS to get back in to your house! :O

Glad you've returned home though! :)
