Shooter ID'd in terrorist attack that killed 50 people

ORLANDO, FL (RNN) - Police identified the suspect in a Florida night club shooting that left approximately 50 dead and 53 wounded in Orlando, FL.

The attack is the worst mass shooting in U.S. history, surpassing the shooting at Virginia Tech in 2007 where 32 people were killed.

Officials confirmed the shooter's identity as Omar Mateen of Port St. Lucie, FL. He is a U.S. citizen, however, police officials said his family members are not U.S. citizens.

Police are searching the gunman's home as well as social media for evidence. Mateen is suspected of carrying out a hostage situation in what officials are calling "domestic terrorism" and police and FBI are investigating if he had ties to a terrorist groups. The suspected gunman's father has told several media outlets he suspects an anti-gay motivation rather than a religious one.

President Barack Obama was briefed on the shooting and the White House released a statement saying he was in communication with the FBI

"The President was briefed this morning by Lisa Monaco, Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism, on the tragic shooting in Orlando, Florida," the statement said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of the victims. The President asked to receive regular updates as the FBI, and other federal officials, work with the Orlando Police to gather more information, and directed that the federal government provide any assistance necessary to pursue the investigation and support the community."

Police responded to calls of a shooting at 2 a.m. Eastern and exchanged gunfire with a shooter inside Pulse, a gay night club. The gunman then took hostages and police entered the club about three hours later, exchanging more gunfire and killing the suspect.

50 dead in nightclub shooting, worst in US history

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — A gunman wielding an assault-type rifle and a handgun opened fire inside a crowded gay nightclub early Sunday, killing at least 50 people before dying in a gunfight with SWAT officers, police said. It was the worst mass shooting in American history.

Authorities were investigating the attack on the Florida dance hall as an act of terrorism. The gunman's father recalled that his son got angry when he recently saw two men kissing in Miami. He said that might be related to the attack.

At least 53 people were hospitalized, most in critical condition, officials said. A surgeon at Orlando Regional Medical Center said the death toll was likely to climb.

Mayor Buddy Dyer said all of the dead were killed with the assault rifle. "There's blood everywhere," Dyer said.

The suspect exchanged gunfire with an officer working at the club known as Pulse around 2 a.m., when more than 300 people were inside. The gunman then went back inside and took hostages, Police Chief John Mina said.

Around 5 a.m., authorities sent in a SWAT team to rescue the hostages.

Jackie Smith, who was inside the club, said two friends next to her were shot. "Some guy walked in and started shooting everybody. He had an automatic rifle, so nobody stood a chance," Smith said. "I just tried to get out of there."

Authorities were looking into whether the attack was an act of domestic or international terror, and if the shooter acted alone, according to Danny Banks, an agent with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. "This is an incident, as I see it, that we certainly classify as domestic terror incident," Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings said.

The suspect was identified as Omar Mateen of Port St. Lucie, Florida. Rep. Alan Grayson named the shooter, citing law enforcement officials. A federal law enforcement official with knowledge of the investigation also confirmed the name. The official was not authorized to discuss the investigation publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.

Mateen's father, Mir Seddique, told NBC News about his son seeing the men kissing a couple of months ago. "We are saying we are apologizing for the whole incident," Seddique said. "We are in shock like the whole country."

The attack had nothing to do with religion, he said. FBI agent Ron Hopper said there was no further threat to Orlando or the surrounding area.

When asked if the gunman had a connection to radical Islamic terrorism, Hopper said authorities had "suggestions that individual has leanings towards that."

In addition to the guns, the shooter also had some sort of "suspicious device," Mina said. Authorities said they had secured the suspect's vehicle, a van, outside the club.

Relatives and friends, many in tears, gathered outside the hospital to learn the fate of loved ones.

Smith did not know the conditions of her friends and came out of the hospital and burst into tears.

Christine Leinonen drove to Orlando at 4 a.m. after learning of the shooting from a friend of her 32-year-old son, Christopher Leinonen, who was at Pulse and is missing.

She has not heard from her son and fears the worse. "These are nonsensical killings of our children," she said, sobbing. "They're killing our babies!"

She said her son's friend Brandon Wolf made it out alive by hiding in a bathroom and running out as the bullets flew.

A woman who was outside the dance club early Sunday was trying to contact her 30-year-old son, Eddie, who texted her when the shooting happened and asked her to call police. He told her he ran into a bathroom with other club patrons to hide. He then texted her: "He's coming."

"The next text said: 'He has us, and he's in here with us,'" Mina Justice said. "That was the last conversation."

Pulse posted on its own Facebook page around 2 a.m.: "Everyone get out of Pulse and keep running." Just before 6 a.m., the club posted an update: "As soon as we have any information, we will update everyone. Please keep everyone in your prayers as we work through this tragic event. Thank you for your thoughts and love."

The wounded included one police officer who was shot and suffered injuries to his face, officials said.

Police had said previously on Twitter that there was a "controlled explosion" at the scene of the shooting. Mina said that noise was caused by a device intended to distract the shooter.

President Barack Obama was briefed on the attack and asked for regular updates on the investigation, the White House said.

Jon Alamo said he was at the back of one of the club's rooms when a man holding a weapon came into the front of the room. "I heard 20, 40, 50 shots," Alamo said. "The music stopped."

Club-goer Rob Rick said the shooting started just before closing time. "Everybody was drinking their last sip," he said.

He estimated more than 100 people were still inside when he heard shots, got on the ground and crawled toward a DJ booth. A bouncer knocked down a partition between the club area and an area in the back where only workers are allowed. People inside were able to then escape through the back of the club.

Christopher Hansen said he was in the VIP lounge when he heard gunshots. He continued to hear shooting even after he emerged and police urged people to back away from the club. He saw the wounded being tended to across the street. "I was thinking, 'Are you kidding me?' So I just dropped down. I just said, 'Please, please, please, I want to make it out,'" he said. "And when I did, I saw people shot. I saw blood. You hope and pray you don't get shot."

The attack follows the fatal shooting late Friday of 22-year-old singer Christina Grimmie, who was killed after her concert in Orlando by a 27-year-old Florida man who later killed himself. Grimmie was a YouTube sensation and former contestant on "The Voice."

How to help Orlando shooting victims

(CNN) — There's one way you can help victims of the Orlando, Florida, terror attack, the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.

Officials in Orlando are asking for blood donations, especially from people who have rare O negative blood.

"There is a dramatic increase in the demand for O negative blood by area hospitals and as a result OneBlood, the local blood center, is urging people with O negative blood to please donate as soon as possible," OneBlood said in a release.

Officials are urging Orlando-area residents to go to their local blood banks and not to hospitals at this time.

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer said Sunday that relatives of victims who need information can call a special hotline at (407) 246-4357.

The shooting occurred about 2 a.m. Sunday at Pulse, a gay nightclub. A lone gunman with an assault weapon opened fire inside the club, killing 50 and injuring 53.

Sunday on NBC’s “Meet The Press,” national correspondent for MSNBC Joy Reid commented on the overnight shooting at a nightclub in Orlando, FL in which approximately 50 people were killed and 53 were injured and the authorities are investigating as an act of terrorism.

She argued the core issue was about “how easy it is to get a gun.”

Reid said, “We have mass casualty shooting that are affecting children, teachers, people in church, so whether it’s a hate crime or whether it’s related to something related to international terrorism, we’re not getting to the core issue, which is how easy it is to get a gun. I mean Florida happens to have the largest gun owning population in the country and some of the most lax laws as to how you can get your hands on an assault rifle, so if you mean to do harm. We’re talking about a state with 1.4 million law abiding gun owners. But we’re not talking about that issue. Right now the only debate that’s taking place in the state of Florida, is the Supreme Court weighing whether to allow complete open carry.”

Orlando Pulse club attack: gunman behind shooting that killed 50 'named as Omar Mateen'
Gunman who opened fire with assault rifle, and equipped with ‘suspicious device’, reportedly a 29-year-old US citizen

The gunman behind a suspected terrorist attack that killed 50 people at an LGBT nightclub in Orlando is believed to be a US citizen of Afghan heritage named as Omar Mateen, a 29-year-old man from Florida.

He is alleged to have opened fire at the Pulse Club in the early hours of Sunday, taking hostages, killing many and hospitalising 53. Raising the alarm in the early hours of Sunday morning, staff at the venue posted on Facebook: “Everyone get out of pulse and keep running”. .

Orlando confirmed police said the shooting was being treated as an “act of domestic terrorism” and had resulted in mass casualties, urging people to stay away from the area.

Several news outlets identified the gunman as Omar Mateen, a 29-year-old from Fort Pierce, Florida. The FBI said it had a “positive identification” of the shooter though it has not yet released a name as it is in the process of notifying his family.

The gunman was killed during a shootout with police, as they broke into the nightclub to rescue 30 people held hostage there. No motive for the attack has been offered by police. The Guardian has not been able to independently verify the identity of the shooter.

Police initially said about 20 people had been killed in the attack, with 42 injured, but later revised the death toll up to 50, with 53 hospitalised, including one police officer who had been shot in the head but whose “life had been saved by his Kevlar helmet”. They confirmed the gunman was armed with an assault rifle, handgun and “some kind of device”.

In a press conference on Sunday morning, an FBI spokesman said investigators believed the attacker may have had extremist beliefs, and would consider possible links to Isis, but cautioned they were pursuing multiple leads.

Orlando Shooting Suspect Identified As Omar Mateen, Registered Democrat Of Afghan Descent; Pledged Allegiance To ISIS

Update 13:32 ET: Omar Mateen, who several years ago changed his name Omar Mir Seddique and added the Mateen part to his official name, is now said to have pledged allegiance to ISIS. As the Post reports, Omar Mateen had committed himself to ISIS before carrying out the bloodiest mass murder in US history at a gay nightclub in Orlando on Sunday, federal officials said. ateen “made a pledge of allegiance to ISIS,” California Rep. Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, told CNN.

And in an even more surprising update, NBC reports that moments before the shootings, Omar Mateen called 911 to pledge allegiance to ISIS.

Update 13:15 ET: According to WaPo, the ex-wife of the 29-year-old shooting suspect said he was violent and mentally unstable and beat her repeatedly while they were married. The ex-wife said she met Omar Mateen online about eight years ago and decided to move to Florida and marry him. At first, the marriage was normal, she said, but then he became abusive.

“He was not a stable person,” said the ex-wife, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because she feared for her safety in the wake of the mass shooting. “He beat me. He would just come home and start beating me up because the laundry wasn’t finished or something like that.”

Update 12:35 ET: Cited by CNN, Congressman Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, said that Orlando nightclub shooter Omar Mateen "made a pledge of allegiance” to Islamic State and was “heard praying in a foreign language.” Earlier, Senator Bill Nelson also talked about the alleged links between Mateen and Islamic terrorists.

"I asked the FBI if there was any connection to Islamic radicalism. There appears to be. But they are naturally cautious and waiting throughout to see if if this is [in fact true]," Nelson said at a news conference on Sunday.

Update 12:25 ET: Mir Seddique, the Afghan immigrant father of the suspected shooter, says it is intolerance of homosexuality, and not affiliations with radical Islam, that likely provoked the attack. "This has nothing to do with religion," he told NBC, stating that he was “in shock like the whole country.” He went on to relate a “recent incident” that demonstrated his son’s attitudes. "We were in Downtown Miami, Bayside, people were playing music. And he saw two men kissing each other in front of his wife and kid and he got very angry. They were kissing each other and touching each other and he said, 'Look at that. In front of my son they are doing that.' And then we were in the men's bathroom and men were kissing each other."

Reports of the list came to light online when Vocativ reported the list was shared via the encrypted app, Telegram, and called on supporters to kill.

Former FBI agent-turned lawyer Stuart Kaplan says the threat is especially alarming, because the people on this list are civilians who don’t have the security necessary to protect themselves.

Sheikh Farrokh Sekaleshfar, an Islamic scholar, states that a death sentence is the compassionate thing to do for homosexuals. According to the sheikh, killing homosexuals will be the only way they could obtain forgiveness from God. He was invited to speak at the Husseini Islamic Center Mosque in Sanford, FL on homosexuality and women’s issues this past April, only a couple of months before today’s deadly terrorist attack on a gay nightclub.

Prior to killing at least 50 people at the club, Omar Mateen called 911 and pledged his allegiance to ISIS. It is unknown at this time if Omar Mateen attended the event at the Husseini Islamic Center Mosque.

Obama Mentions Guns But Not Radical Islam in Orlando Pulse Shooting Remarks

President Obama described the mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando last night as "an act of terror and hate," but did not mention the killer's self-proclaimed ties to ISIS or presumed radical Islamic ideology. "This was an act of terror and an act of hate," he said during his early afternoon press conference. "As Americans, we are united in grief and outrage and in resolve to defend our people."

The president urged the public not to leap to conclusions yet about the motivations of the gunman, Omar Mateen. Mateen had been previously investigated by the FBI. "We are still learning all the facts," said Obama. "We've reached no definitive judgment on the precise motivations of the killer. What is clear is that he was a person filled with hatred."

While Obama did not speculate about Mateen's motivations, news outlets are reporting that Mateen pledged allegiance to ISIS shortly before his attack on Pulse. His family has thus far maintained that he simply hated gay people, and this hatred was not connected to his Islamic faith.

After declining to blame the attack on radical Islam, the president impugned the U.S. lack of effective gun control. "This massacre is a further reminder of how easy it is for someone to get their hands on a weapon," he said. "We have to decide if that's the kind of country we want to be, and to actively do nothing is a decision as well."

I saw a fella interviewed from the scene in Orlando say something like "This is weird. It's like real. It's like a movie." Perhaps that is the inkling of an awakening that we ARE at war and those rat bastards will kill anyone anywhere- mostly soft targets- schools, malls, clubs. It doesn't matter if your mind is so opened your brain falls out. They will target and kill you. It's the mission.

The only positive side is that FBI came out before the WH and called it what it is. And I just heard there is a connection to ISIS. barack needs to step down and let someone else finish his failed term. He is not concerned for Americans. I think I read there has been over 100 mass shootings since he's been in office- and he still can't say Islamic Terrorism. Country Star Issues Scathing Response To President's Speech Following Orlando Mass Shooting

Sunday morning (June 12), the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history took place at Pulse, a gay night club in Orlando, Florida. 50 people were killed and at least 53 more were injured in the attack that has elicited an outpouring of social media response from people around the globe.

One response that is garnering a lot of attention on Facebook came from Brooks & Dunn's Ronnie Dunn who posted a note following President Obama's speech regarding the shooting. In a press conference Sunday afternoon, President Obama called the shooting an act of terrorism


We know enough to say this was an act of terror and an act of hate," he said. "The FBI is appropriately investigating this as an act of terror. We will go wherever the facts lead us ... What is clear is he was a person filled with hatred." The President, an advocate for gun control, called for stricter gun laws. "This massacre is therefore a further reminder of how easy it is for someone to get their hands on a weapon that lets them shoot people in a school, in a house of worship, or in a movie theater or in a nightclub. And we have to decide if that's the kind of country we want to be. To actively do nothing is a decision as well."


Ronnie Dunn took to Facebook to criticize the President's speech and leadership calling it "unbelievable."


The worst mass murder in American history attributed to Isis and Obama steps up to the microphone and implies that it will stop if guns are taken away.

So, a law is passed and we are ordered to turn our guns in (billions of them)....

Mateen’s Father is Talk Show Host Who Supports Taliban

The Post reports that Seddique Mateen hosts a show called “Durand Jirga Show” on a channel called Payam-e-Afghan, which broadcasts from California.

“In one video, Mateen expresses gratitude toward the Afghan Taliban, while denouncing the Pakistani government,” the Post reports.

“Our brothers in Waziristan, our warrior brothers in [the] Taliban movement and national Afghan Taliban are rising up,” he said. “Inshallah the Durand Line issue will be solved soon.”

The Durand Line is the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The line was given by the British to Pakistan but divides the native Pashtun population in the area.

The most recent video on Mateen’s YouTube channel shows him declaring his candidacy for the Afghan presidency. The timing of the video is strange, as it came a year after presidential elections were held in Afghanistan. Mateen appears incoherent at times in the video, and he jumps abruptly from topic to topic. His use of Dari, instead of Pashto, the language of Pashtuns, was another strange element of his presentation.

i listened today to obama's speech. there was no emotion - he might have been reciting his multiplication tables not announcing the murder of at least 50 sons, daughters, friends, relatives. was he lamenting that his golf time might have been eliminated because he had to play pres? he mentioned the word terror once and then spent all his time talking about guns and hatred for the lgbt community. does O want his secret service, military and police also turn over their guns or only those who have been charged to protect him have the right to guns? before he tries to wipe out all guns, let him first take away the guns from all the bad people...the bad ppl like the ones who were given guns by our own doj! :( when it comes to the gay community imho obama has caused more division with his executive order regarding allowing transgenders into locker rooms and bathrooms based on how a person feels (of course he would not have to share with them nor would his daughters or his wife)and punishing school children if their schools do not comply to his wishes, wants, desires. Man with weapons was headed to LA gay pride parade

LOS ANGELES — Authorities on Sunday were trying to determine the intentions of an Indiana man with a cache of weapons, ammunition and explosive-making materials in his car and apparent plans to attend the L.A. Pride festival in West Hollywood.

Santa Monica Police Chief Jacqueline Seabrooks initially said on Twitter that the 20-year-old man told one of her officers after he was arrested that he wanted “to harm Gay Pride event.”

But Lt. Saul Rodriguez said later the tweet was a misstatement. He said the suspect told investigators that he was going to the Pride festival but said he did not make additional statements about his intentions.

“It was a misstatement,” Rodriguez said. “Unfortunately, she was given incorrect information initially, which indicated that that statement was made; however, that statement never was made. He did indicate that he was planning on going to the Pride festival but beyond anything as far as motives or his intentions that statement was never made nor did any officer receive that statement.”

Police identified the suspect as James Wesley Howell of Indiana. A Facebook page for someone with the same name in Indiana shows a young man posing next to a white Acura with the same license plate as the car searched in Santa Monica for the weapons and explosives.

At a news conference Sunday afternoon, police stressed they were still trying to figure out what Howell planned to do with the weapons.

Howell’s friend and fellow car club member Joseph Greeson, 18, said Howell didn’t harbor any ill will toward gays or lesbians and added that Howell was bisexual.

Greeson said Howell’s family in Jeffersonville hadn’t seen him for days and that his parents had called Greeson’s parents looking for him.

He added that Howell was known to have a gun collection.

According to Indiana court records, Howell was charged in October 2015 with intimidation and felony pointing a firearm at another person. On April 19, Howell pleaded guilty to misdemeanor intimidation, and prosecutors dropped the charge of pointing a firearm. Court records show he was sentenced to a year in state prison and placed on probation. Under the deal, he agreed to forfeit all weapons during his term of probation.

Howell allegedly pointed a gun at his neighbors in the October incident, according to a News and Tribune article. In the article, witnesses also described Howell as having pointed his gun at his boyfriend in an earlier incident.

“James is going to get someone hurt,” one witness said, the article said. “He needs to stop pointing guns at people.”

Federal and local law enforcement decided against canceling the annual parade, which went forward Sunday morning under tightened security. Investigators are now trying to piece together what happened but said they don’t believe there is any connection between the incident and the massacre at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Fla., that killed at least 50 people overnight.

Early Sunday, Santa Monica police received a call about a suspected prowler who was knocking on a resident’s door and window about 5 a.m. in the 1700 block of 11th Street, Santa Monica police said. Patrol officers responded and encountered Howell, who was sitting in a car registered in Indiana, police said. Officers inspected the car and found three assault rifles, high-capacity ammunition and a 5-gallon bucket containing “chemicals capable of forming an improvised explosive device,” police said.

A law enforcement source who spoke on condition of anonymity said the contents of the bucket included Tannerite, an ingredient that could be used to create a pipe bomb. The maker of the material said that was not the case and that it can only be detonated by high-velocity impact such as a bullet strike. But Tannerite is known as a material used in the construction of other types of explosive devices.

The source, who was not authorized to speak publicly about the ongoing investigation, said authorities also found camouflage clothing in the car.

Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials said the suspect told police he was going to the Pride parade to look for a friend. Authorities were looking for that individual.

Santa Monica police searched the suspect’s car on Sunday morning. All four of the car’s doors were open and a green blanket, red gasoline canister and several other smaller items were being piled on the sidewalk next to it. The car’s license plate included a symbol of the National Rifle Association on the left side and the bottom said, “Teaching Freedom.”

A Facebook page for Howell said he attended high school in Louisville, Ky., and lives in Jeffersonville, Ind., where he works for an air filtration company. A car enthusiast, Howell posted numerous photographs of the Acura along with a couple of videos taken from inside cars. Another 10-second video includes gunfire, with shots striking grass.

The site includes political posts, including one in which he compares Hillary Clinton to Adolf Hitler. In another, he repeats conspiracy theories that the government was behind notorious terrorist attacks, including Sept. 11, 2001. That post shares a video claiming that last year’s terror attack on the Paris offices of the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo was a hoax and attributable to the “New World Order.”

The parade in West Hollywood came hours after the attack at the Orlando club. In addition to those killed, at least 53 were injured in the deadliest shooting in modern American history. The gunman, who was killed in a shootout with police, has been identified as 29-year-old Omar Mateen, a U.S. law enforcement official said.

The parade began about 10:45 a.m. Usually a joyful affair, the event was tempered by the Orlando violence and the Santa Monica arrest.

Emma Samuels, 16, stood at Crescent Heights and Santa Monica boulevards with a group of friends, wearing a rainbow tutu.

She had heard about what happened in Florida when her mother called her Sunday morning, as soon as she arrived at the parade. “She told me and said, ‘I hope you’re safe, sweetie, I love you and let me know that you’re OK,’ ” she said. Her friend Nicki Genco-Kamin, 18, stood with her, a “No H8” temporary tattoo on his left cheek: “I feel like it’s all the more reason to come out. That’s trying to push us back. This is showing we’re still here, we’re still going to take a stand,” he said.

They said that a sense of worry was there, but stressed the importance of turning out.

“That’s exactly why we’re here, to be like, ‘I’m proud of who I am. I don’t care if you hate me, I’m going to love myself,’ ” Samuels said.

“Life is short anyways,” Genco-Kamin said. “Spend it being authentic to yourself.”

“Gun violence on the LGBTQ family during Pride Month makes me sick,” Horvath said. “The deadliest mass shooting in America happened to LGBTQ people on Latin night. While we mourn this heartbreaking loss, we must also rededicate ourselves to the fight for full equality for all people. No one is equal unless everyone is equal.”

U.S. Senator Ted Cruz issued a statement Sunday regarding the gay nightclub shooting in Orlando.

Ted Cruz’s statement:

“Our nation is at war. From 9/11 to the Boston Marathon, from Fort Hood to Chattanooga, from San Bernardino to last night’s horrific attack in Orlando, radical Islamic terrorism has declared jihad on America,” Sen. Cruz said. “Early reports indicate the Orlando terrorist had pledged his allegiance to ISIS, and he had previously been investigated by the FBI. FAIL: Bill Rejected By The GOP 6 Months Ago Would Have Stopped Florida Shooter From Gun Purchase

As it turns out, America’s elected Republican officials could have stopped Orlando’s gay nightclub shooter from being able to purchase the assault rifle that claimed the lives of 50 people in the early hours on Sunday morning. Dozens more were hospitalized

Omar Mateen opened fire in the Florida nightclub after apparently becoming enraged at the sight of two men kissing when he went on a family outing, months before the incident. Before going on his murderous rampage, Mateen called 911 to pledge his undying allegiance to terrorist organization ISIS.

Not only are Republicans responsible for stigmatizing members of the LGBT community as anti-god deviants, but they could have thrown a huge wrench in Mateen’s massacre plans had they passed a law proposed six whole months before this morning’s mass shooting occurred.

According to MSNBC:


“Senate Republicans rejected a bill that aims to stop suspected terrorists from legally buying guns, on Thursday. The vote came a day after at least 14 people were killed during the San Bernardino massacre in California by two suspects, including a woman said to have pledged allegiance to ISIS.”

“Forty-five senators voted for the bill and 54 voted against it. One Democrat, Sen. Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, and one Republican, Sen. Mark Kirk of Illinois, crossed party lines.”

This piece of legislation would have prevented anyone on the terror watch list from purchasing a firearm, let alone an assault rifle capable of killing dozens in seconds. Dianne Feinstein supported the legislation that was shot down by Republicans more worried about their 2nd Amendment rights than their actual physical safety. Feinstein said this about the problem with gun lobbying:


“If you need proof that Congress is a hostage to the gun lobby, look no further than today’s vote blocking a bill to prevent known or suspected terrorists from buying guns and explosives. Congress has been paralyzed by the gun lobby for years, while more and more Americans are killed in mass shootings. Orlando nightclub terrorist worked for major DHS contractor that secures “90 percent of U.S. nuclear facilities.”

The Orlando nightclub terrorist who pledged allegiance to ISIS worked almost a decade for a major Department of Homeland Security contractor, raising alarms that ISIS sympathizers and agents have infiltrated the federal agency set up after 9/11 to combat terrorists.

Officials say Omar Mir Seddique Mateen, an Afghan-American who held two firearms licenses and a security officer license, was employed by the security firm G4S Secure Solutions USA Inc. since Sept. 10, 2007. The Jupiter, Fla.-based company merged with the Wackenhut Corp. after 9/11 and assumed federal contracts.

“G4S supports the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection (CPB), with its operations at the U.S. * Mexico border and with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to transport illegal immigrants in selected urban areas,” the company says in a brochure, titled “Providing Manpower Solutions for Government Services.”

The DHS contract with G4S is worth more than $234 million. The contract states that one of the “performance requirements” is helping identify “suspected terrorists” trying to enter the U.S.

The security contractor also provides security guards and other security services for “90 percent of U.S. nuclear facilities.”

G4S uses fortified buses to transport “hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants” from city to city and from cities to the U.S.-Mexican border. But earlier this month, Judicial Watch revealed G4S has been quietly moving and releasing van loads of illegal aliens away from the border to interior American cities.

The immigrants were classified as OTMs — Other Than Mexican — and included mostly Central American illegals but possibly also foreign border-crossers from the Middle East and Pakistan.

“A security company contracted by the U.S. government is driving the OTMs from the Border Patrol’s Tucson sector, where they were in custody, to Phoenix,” the Washington-based government watchdog group said. “The firm is called G4S and claims to be the world’s leading security solutions group with operations in more than 100 countries and 610,000 employees.”

It’s not clear if the 29-year-old Mateen worked on any federal contracts or dealt with federal inmates. One of his jobs was to help transport and guard state and local prisoner youths in Florida. The subsidiary he worked for — G4S Secure Solutions USA Inc. — is based in Jupiter, Fla., which is located just south of Mateen’s home in Fort Pierce, Fla.

It’s also not immediately known if he had federal security clearances, or what kind of security background check G4S administered before hiring Mateen.

But he continued to guard prisoners despite reports he openly praised ISIS in conversations with co-workers, and even though he had been under federal investigation for terrorism ties since at least 2013.

In a 2012 company newsletter, G4S congratulated Mateen for five years of service.

Attempts to reach G4S representatives Sunday were unsuccessful. But the same company brochure says security officers “are subjected to a stringent background investigation” that includes psychological, background and criminal screening.” Testing for jihadist sympathies is not listed.

“From our superior recruiting, training and education to our background checks and screening, our manned security will exceed your expectations,” the contractor assures federal clients.

G4S, which was the first contract security company to received designation and certification by DHS, also helps the federal government with emergency security responses to “terror threats.”

Employing more than 50,000 Americans, G4S provides security support for several other federal agencies, as well, including the departments of State, Interior, Labor, Justice and Energy, and the IRS and Drug Enforcement Administration. The security firm also partners with the U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force and NASA.

Through the U.S. General Services Administration, the company supplies guards, detention officers, court security officers, baggage handlers, security clerks, and prisoner bus and van drivers in contracts worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

It’s not the first time a federal contractor has employed a major Islamic terrorist.

In 2008, Charlotte, N.C.-based Convergys Corp. came under fire for employing a Muslim computer operator who openly maintained a jihadist website featuring grisly images of American soldiers blown up by al-Qaida terrorists overseas which he said “bring great happiness to me.” Convergys at the time had landed a $2.5 billion federal contract to set up emergency communications centers in the event to terrorist attacks and other disasters.

The employee, 22-year-old Sami Khan, turned out to be an al-Qaida operative. He was killed in 2011 in a U.S. drone strike in Yemen.

Hillary’s State Dept. stopped investigation into Orlando shooter’s mosque, deleted records, former DHS says

Hillary Clinton’s State Department stopped an investigation into mosque networks, that included the place where Orlando terrorist Omar Mateen worshipped, because President Obama feared that it unfairly targeted Muslims, according to a retired Department of Homeland Security agent turned whistleblower.

In his book “See Something, Say Nothing: A Homeland Security Officer Exposes the Government’s Submission to Jihad,” agent Philip Haney said that “within a few months, the case drew the ‘concern’ of the State Department and the DHS’s Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Office because the Obama administration believed it unfairly singled out Muslims,”according to WND.

In December, 2015 Haney claimed that the Clinton-led State Department shut down an investigation into several mosques, among them, the one attended San Bernardino terrorist Syed Farook.

On Sunday, Haney told WND that the Florida mosque Mateen attended was also part of that investigation.

In addition to putting a freeze on the investigation the administration deleted much the records related to the case.

“Along with the State Department’s and Department of Homeland Security’s quashing of the case in June 2012, the administration subsequently ordered the deletion of an additional 67 records related to a report on the Institute of Islamic Education,” WND reported.

Still, when Haney heard the name of the mosque on Sunday he knew it sounded familiar.

“This case struck me as very similar to the San Bernardino shooting case,” he told WND. “I suspected that they were both part of a national and international network of organizations.”

He said that after Sunday’s attack he checked out the Islamic Center of Fort Pierce using open-source information and confirmed his suspicions, according to WND.

THE LARGEST MASS SHOOTING IN US HISTORY HAPPENED December 29,1890. When 297 Sioux Indians at Wounded Knee Creek on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota were murdered by federal agents & members of the 7th Cavalry who had come to confiscate their firearms “for their own safety and protection”. The slaughter began after the majority of the Sioux had peacefully turned in their firearms. The Calvary began shooting, and managed to wipe out the entire camp. 200 of the 297 victims were women and children.

Wounded Knee was among the first federally backed gun confiscation attempts in United States history. It ended in the senseless murder of 297 people.

The Second Amendment, the right of the people to take up arms in defense of themselves, their families, and property in the face of invading armies or an oppressive government. The Second Amendment was written by people who fled oppressive and tyrannical regimes in Europe, and it refers to the right of American citizens to be armed for defensive purposes, should such tyranny arise in the United States.

Wounded Knee is the prime example of why the Second Amendment exists, and why we should vehemently resist any attempts to infringe on our Rights to Bear Arms. Without the Second Amendment we will be totally stripped of any ability to defend ourselves and our families.

Witness accounts say multiple shooters were in nightclub, claims media isn’t telling everything

The official story from the FBI and local authorities says that one shooter, Omar Mateen, murdered 49 people and injured an additional 53 on Sunday morning in Orlando at the Pulse gay nightclub.

But rumors have persisted since the massacre that more than one shooter was present.

A post from a man named Cody Agnew told the story of a victim who claims to have seen multiple attackers, according to Agnew.

Agnew doesn’t name the woman but it appears to be Lisa Morales Delgado, who was shot 12 times and said she saw three shooters. Agnew has been making prayer requests for her on social media.

A link to his original post shows that it has been deleted but screenshots still exist and have gone viral.

That story jibes with what another witness said he overheard the gunman say. “(Mateen) called somebody else that he knew and he mentioned that he was the fourth shooter and there was three others,” the witness told ABC’s 20/20.

Officials are still investigating but said there is no indication Mateen had any accomplices prior to the attack.

Some are asking, is this a fog of war-type recollection or is there something more to it?

Media must accept the US mass shooting was both a terrorist and a homophobic assault

Orlando was both a terrorist attack and a homophobic attack on LGBT people.

It was both the worst mass shooting in US history, and the worst targetted mass killing of LGBT people in the Western world since the Holocaust.

It is possible for an atrocity to be more than one thing at the same time. You are not compelled to select one option or the other.

Life - with both its horrors and its joys - is incredibly complicated, and we have a rich language able to capture its complexities.

I am reluctant to dwell too much on my appearance on Sky News last night, because this isn’t about me, so let’s just use it as a case study.

In sum, I walked off in disgust during a discussion about the massacre: it was an instinctive reaction to an unpleasant and untenable situation.

The presenter continually and repeatedly refused to accept that this was an attack on LGBT people.

This was an attack “against human beings”, he said, and “the freedom of all people to try to enjoy themselves”.

He not only refused to accept it as an attack on LGBT people, but was increasingly agitated that I - as a gay man - would claim it as such.

If a terrorist with a track record of expressing hatred of and disgust at Jewish people had walked into a synagogue and murdered 50 Jewish people, we would rightly describe it as both terrorism and an anti-Semitic attack.

If a Jewish guest on television had tried to describe it as such, it would be disgraceful if they were not only contradicted, but shouted down as they did so. But this is what happened on Sky News, with a gay man talking about the mass murder of LGBT people.

This isn’t about LGBT people taking ownership of the pain and anguish.

People of all sexual orientations have wept over this massacre, and all communities should unite in grief. It is highly likely that straight people died in the atrocity.

Pub attack

When the neo-Nazi terrorist David Copeland detonated a nail bomb in the Admiral Duncan gay pub in 1999, one of the fatalities was a straight pregnant woman, having a drink with her husband and her gay friends.

LGBT people are part of the wider community, and LGBT people and their straight friends party together in LGBT venues.

But this was a deliberate attack on an LGBT venue and LGBT people.

According to Omar Mateen’s father, the reportedly Islamic State-supporting terrorist had expressed revulsion at the sight of two men kissing. His co-workers have described his anti-gay comments.

Omar Mateen could have chosen many clubs, full of people laughing and living, but he chose an LGBT venue.

This was homophobia as well as terrorism. It is not enough to simply condemn violence: we have to understand what it is and why it happened.

It wasn’t only Sky News at fault. In the New York Times’s original reporting, it didn’t even point out that a gay club had been targetted.

The Daily Mail didn’t bother to put the atrocity - the worst terrorist attack on US soil since 9/11 - on its front page, instead opting to stir up xenophobia over Turkish immigrants and publicising an offer of “free pearl and white sapphire earrings”.

This is erasure of LGBT people - pure and simple - after their community was horrifically targetted.

Different experiences

LGBT people are varied, and have different experiences: the life experiences of a young working-class gay black woman and a gay white male multi-millionaire CEO are very different.

But we all grow up in a society that still treats us as if we are inferior: we have all repeatedly encountered homophobic abuse, the stress of coming out repeatedly, or the fear of holding hands with a partner in public.

To imagine LGBT people who may have endured distress and internalised prejudice - just because of who they are - spending their last moments in terror as a homophobic terrorist hunted them down is just unbearable.

Today, the “we only care about LGBT rights if Muslims are involved” brigade are out in force.

As a gay man, I am proud to live in a city represented by a Muslim mayor who has faced death threats for supporting and voting for LGBT people to have the same rights as everybody else.

The bigots must not be allowed to hijack this atrocity.

Tonight at 7pm in Old Compton Street - in the heart of London’s LGBT community - LGBT people and straight people will link arms in memory of what happened in Orlando.

Let it be a show of solidarity - and defiance against those who hate.

'Workplace violence' incident with hostage ends after police kill suspect at Texas Walmart

Police killed a man who took at least one hostage inside an Amarillo Walmart Tuesday that sparked evacuations of the store and caught the attention of a nation still reeling from the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history. Police, calling the situation a "workplace violence" incident, confirmed that both the suspect, identified by police as Mohammad Moghaddam, 54, and hostage are store employees and said no other injuries were reported.

Moghaddam entered the store just after 11 a.m. and fired multiple shots, but no one is believed to have been hit.

Law enforcement agencies responded to the Walmart at Interstate 27 and Georgia Street around 11:15 a.m. for "an active shooter incident," the City of Amarillo's Twitter account said.

Officers went inside the Walmart to make contact with the suspect and ensure no other individuals are inside. Police shot the suspect inside the store, but further details regarding the incident weren't immediately available. Police evacuated shoppers out of the west side of the building and asked the public to stay away from the area. Walmart employees from the store are being kept on scene to answer questions from police.

A live stream from the parking lot of the Walmart from the ABC-7 Amarillo station shows dozens of police and emergency vehicles outside. The incident comes on the heels of the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history that left 49 victims and a shooter dead at an Orlando nightclub on Sunday.

Amarillo is the largest city in the Texas Panhandle, with the 14th largest population in the state. It is located about 350 miles northwest of Dallas.

Haney’s case on the mosque drew concern from Hillary’s State Department and the DHS’s Civil Rights and Liberties Office because they believed it unfairly singled out Muslims. His report was heavily edited and scrubbed by the State Department, and no action was taken to shut down the mosque:

In the immediate aftermath of the Orlando massacre, Haney has found that the Islamic Center of Fort Pierce, Florida, is part of a network in the United States that originated in the Indian subcontinent


The Fort Pierce mosque’s website features a link that demonstrates its relationship to the Shariah Board of America, a division of the Rahmat-e-Alam Foundation, which operates the Darul Uloom Chicago madrassa.

The madrassa is closely affiliated with the Institute of Islamic Education, which was a major component of Haney’s Tablighi Jamaat case.

Along with the State Department’s and Department of Homeland Security’s quashing of the case in June 2012, the administration subsequently ordered the deletion of an additional 67 records related to a report on the Institute of Islamic Education.

Haney explained that this kind of information comprises the “dots” that counter-terrorism analysts connect to form cases that are used to identify potential terrorist threats.

“This case struck me as very similar to the San Bernardino shooting case,” Haney told WND on Sunday. “I suspected that they were both part of a national and international network of organizations.”

He said that using open-source information, beginning with the Islamic Center of Fort Pierce, he discovered Sunday afternoon that his initial suspicions were correct.

“It’s exactly how I would have approached a case if I was still active duty,” he said.

“The FBI had opened cases twice on him, and yet they found no evidence to charge him,” Haney pointed out.

“It means they didn’t go through the same basic, analytical process that I went through over a three- or four-hour period in which I was able to link the mosque to my previous cases.”

The Orlando Sentinel reported the FBI interviewed Mateen three times for having alleged terrorist ties. He came to the FBI’s attention in 2013 after he made inflammatory remarks to co-workers, but the investigation was closed.

In 2014, he was interviewed again for making contact with a suicide bomber.

Another member of the Fort Pierce mosque, 22-year-old Moner Mohammad Abusalha, blew himself up in an attack in Syria in 2014 with an explosives-laden truck.




Haney reports that Obama’s FBI had Mateen on their radar at least twice, but both times the investigation was shut down.

This means Hillary Clinton’s State Department is directly responsible for not flagging Mateen and getting Islamic terrorists off the streets. This is outrageous, and it should disqualify Hillary Clinton from being President of the Untied States.

WASHINGTON — President Obama passionately rebuked critics who say he should condemn terrorists as "radical Islamists," saying calling the Islamic State by another name will do nothing to defeat it — and could be counterproductive.

"What exactly would using this label accomplish? What exactly would it change? Would it make ISIL less committed to kill Americans? Would it bring in more allies? Is there a military strategy that is served by this?" he said. "The answer is none of the above."

In animated off-the-cuff remarks after meeting with his National Security Council Tuesday, Obama repeated his contention that identifying the Syrian-based terror group as Islamic will only serve as a propaganda tool for their extremist ideology, and potentially alienate Muslim allies. It was his sharpest and most extensive response to date on Republican criticism that his strategy is failing because he's failed to understand the religious fervor of terrorists.

"Is President Obama going to finally mention the words radical Islamic terrorism? If he doesn't he should immediately resign in disgrace!" the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, Donald Trump, tweeted on Sunday following a lone-wolf attack on an Orlando nightclub.

Responded Obama: "There's no magic to the phrase 'radical Islam.' It’s a political talking point. It’s not a strategy."

"Calling a threat by a different name does not make it go away. This is a political distraction." Obama said in a tone that moved from scolding to mocking. "Not once has an adviser of mine said, 'Man, if we use that phrase, we’re going to turn this whole thing around.'"

Obama's remarks were directed broadly at Republican critics, "Including politicians who tweet and appear on cable news shows." White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest later said that Obama wasn't just targeting Trump: "It's not just about one politician in the Republican party who is reacting out of fear and using language that the president is concerned could undermine our national security," he said. "He's not the only one, and that's the problem."

But Obama also denounced Trump specifically — referring to him not by name but as the presumptive Republican nominee — over his proposal to call a temporary moratorium on Muslims entering the country — or anyone arriving from countries where Islamic terrorism exists.

"Where does this stop? The Orlando killer, one of the San Bernardino killers, the Fort Hood killer — they were all U.S. citizens. Are we going to start treating all Muslim Americans differently? Are we going to start subjecting them to special surveillance? Are we going to start discriminate them, because of their faith?" he said. "Do Republican officials actually agree with this?""

Obama spoke following a previously scheduled meeting of his National Security Council to discuss the progress in the war against the Islamic State. He also gave an update on the investigation into the Orlando nightclub shooting that killed 49 people Sunday, saying ]there's no evidence the attack was directed by a terrorist organization.

Trump: Obama 'was more angry at me than he was at the shooter'

Donald Trump on Tuesday accused President Barack Obama of being angrier at him than at the gunman who perpetrated the deadliest terrorist attack on U.S. soil since 9/11. "I watched President Obama today and he was more angry at me than he was at the shooter," Trump said, drawing boos from the crowd. "The level of anger, that's the kind of anger that he should have for the shooter and these killers that shouldn't be here."

Obama passionately excoriated Trump during a speech earlier in the day for demonizing Muslims and defying American values in his response to the terrorist attack in Orlando, calling Trump's mindset "dangerous."

Trump also said if Obama had been a "great president," the businessman would have been happy. "But I'll tell you what he's been one hell of a lousy president, he's done a terrible job," he said.

Trump also offered similarly fiery criticism of his likely general election opponent, Hillary Clinton, who has also been harshly critical of Trump's response to the terrorist threat. "If Hillary Clinton becomes president I don't know that our country will ever, ever come back -- I mean it," Trump said.

Trump criticized Clinton's call to resettle more Syrian refugees in the U.S. and accused her of being complicit in Saudi Arabia's flagrantly poor human rights record because the Clinton Foundation has accepted funds from the kingdom.

As he did in his national security speech Monday, Trump accused Clinton of being "no friend of LGBT Americans" because of those donations and her views on confronting terrorism, which do not include a ban on refugees or Muslims entering the U.S.

Clinton's campaign manager is openly gay, and her campaign boasts many prominent LGBT supporters, including the Human Rights Campaign, which endorsed her in January.

While Trump pressed on with his overtures to the LGBT community -- with whom Trump expressed solidarity with on Monday -- his supporters met that appeal to LGBT Americans with a tepid, if not muted response in North Carolina, which recently passed a law banning transgender individuals from using bathrooms that correspond with their gender identity.

Trump also reveled in his decision to ban The Washington Post from covering his rallies due to what he deemed the newspaper's "dishonest" coverage -- one unprecedented in modern American political history.

"We just took the press credentials away. I love it! We just took the press credentials away from the dishonest Washington Post," Trump said as the audience erupted in raucous cheers and applause.

East St. Louis Massacre

The name refers to a race riot that occurred in the industrial city of East St. Louis, Illinois, over July 2-3, 1917. It is also referred to as the “East St. Louis Riot.” As historians have looked at its various causes, they have labeled it in different ways, depending on what aspect of it they have focused their attention on. Some recent historians have called it a “pogrom” against African Americans in that civil authorities in the city and the state appear to have been at least complicit in—if not explicitly responsible for—the outbreak of violence. Even in 1917, some commentators already made the comparison between the East St. Louis disturbance and pogroms against Jews that were occurring at the time in Russia.

Roving mobs rampaged through the city for a day and a night, burning the homes and businesses of African Americans, stopping street cars to pull their victims into the street, and assaulting and murdering men, women, and children who they happened to encounter. A memorial petition to the U.S. Congress, sent by a citizen committee from East St. Louis described it as “a very orgy of inhuman butchery during which more than fifty colored men, women and children were beaten with bludgeons, stoned, shot, drowned, hanged or burned to death—all without any effective interference on the part of the police, sheriff or military authorities.” In fact, estimates of the number of people killed ranged from 40 to more than 150. Six thousand people fled from their homes in the city, either out of fear for their lives or because mobs had burned their houses.

Elaine, Arkansas Race Massacre of 1919:
Hundreds of blacks killed by whites

The Elaine Massacre was by far the deadliest racial confrontation in Arkansas history and possibly the bloodiest racial conflict in the history of the United States. While its deepest roots lay in the state’s commitment to white supremacy, the events in Elaine stemmed from tense race relations and growing concerns about labor unions. A shooting incident that occurred at a meeting of the Progressive Farmers and Household Union escalated into mob violence on the part of the white people in Elaine (Phillips County) and surrounding areas. Although the exact number is unknown, estimates of the number of African Americans killed by whites range into the hundreds; five white people lost their lives.

The conflict began on the night of September 30, 1919, when approximately 100 African Americans, mostlysharecroppers on the plantations of white landowners, attended a meeting of the Progressive Farmers and Household Union of America at a church in Hoop Spur (Phillips County), three miles north of Elaine. The purpose of the meeting, one of several by black sharecroppers in the Elaine area during the previous months, was to obtain better payments for theircotton crops from the white plantation owners who dominated the area during the Jim Crow era. Black sharecroppers were often exploited in their efforts to collect payment for their cotton crops.

In previous months, racial conflict had occurred in numerous cities in America, including Washington DC; Chicago, Illinois; Knoxville, Tennessee; and Indianapolis, Indiana. With labor conflicts escalating throughout the country at the end of World War I, government and business interpreted the demands of labor increasingly as the work of foreign ideologies, such as Bolshevism, that threatened the foundation of the American economy. Thrown into this highly combustible mix was the return to the United States of black soldiers who often exhibited a less submissive attitude within the Jim Crow society around them.

Over the course of 16 hours, more than 800 people were admitted to local white hospitals with injuries, the two black hospitals were burned down, and police arrested and detained more than 6,000 black Greenwood residents at three local facilities. An estimated 10,000 blacks were left homeless, and 35 city blocks composed of 1,256 residences were destroyed by fire, resulting in over $26 million in damages. The official count of the dead by the Oklahoma Department of Vital Statistics was 39, but other estimates of black fatalities vary from 55 to about 300.

The events of the massacre were long omitted from local and state histories: "The Tulsa race riot of 1921 was rarely mentioned in history books, classrooms or even in private. Blacks and whites alike grew into middle age unaware of what had taken place."[1] With the number of survivors declining, in 1996, the state legislature commissioned a report to establish the historical record of the events, and acknowledge the victims and damages to the black community. Released in 2001, the report included the commission's recommendations for some compensatory actions, most of which were not implemented by the state and city governments. The state passed legislation to establish some scholarships for descendants of survivors, economic development of Greenwood, and a memorial park to the victims in Tulsa. The latter was dedicated in 2010.

The Rosewood Massacre, 1923

On January 1, 1923 a massacre was carried out in the small, predominantly black town of Rosewood in Central Florida. The massacre was instigated by the rumor that a white woman, Fanny Taylor, had been sexually assaulted by a black man in her home in a nearby community. A group of white men, believing this rapist to be a recently escaped convict named Jesse Hunter who was hiding in Rosewood, assembled to capture this man.

Prior this event a series of incidents had stirred racial tensions within Rosewood. During the previous winter of 1922 a white school teacher from Perry had been murdered and on New Years Eve of 1922 there was a Ku Klux Klan rally held in Gainesville, located not far away from Rosewood.

In response to the allegation by Taylor, white men began to search for Jesse Hunter, Aaron Carrier and Sam Carter who were believed to be accomplices. Carrier was captured and incarcerated while Carter was lynched. The white mob suspected Aaron's cousin, Sylvester Carrier, a Rosewood resident of harboring the fugitive, Jesse Hunter.

On January 4, 1923 a group of 20 to 30 white men approached the Carrier home and shot the family dog. When Sylvester's mother Sarah came to the porch to confront the mob they shot and killed her. Sylvester defended his home, killing two men and wounding four in the ensuing battle before he too was killed. The remaining survivors fled to the swamps for refuge where many of the African American residents of Rosewood had already retreated, hoping to avoid the rising conflict and increasing racial tension.

The next day the white mob burned the Carrier home before joining with a group of 200 men from surrounding towns who had heard erroneously that a black man had killed two white men. As night descended the mob attacked the town, slaughtering animals and burning buildings. An official report claims six blacks killed along with two whites. Other accounts suggest a larger total. At the end of the carnage only two buildings remained standing, a house and the town general store.

Many of the black residents of Rosewood who fled to the swamps were evacuated on January 6 by two local train conductors, John and William Bryce. Many others were hidden by John Wright, the owner of the general store. Other black residents of Rosewood fled to Gainesville and to northern cities. As a consequence of the massacre, Rosewood became deserted.

The initial report of the Rosewood incident presented less than a month after the massacre claimed there was insufficient evidence for prosecution. Thus no one was charged with any of the Rosewood murders. In 1994, however, as the result of new evidence and renewed interest in the event, the Florida Legislature passed the Rosewood Bill which entitled the nine survivors to $150,000 dollars each in compensation.

Orlando shooter's wife could be charged soon
The wife of the gunman who killed 49 people at the Pulse gay nightclub in Orlando could soon be charged in connection with the mass shooting, according to media reports.

A federal grand jury has been convened and could charge Noor Salman, the wife of Omar Mateen, as early as Wednesday, Reuters reported.

Fox News said that prosecutors are seeking to charge Salman as an accessory to 49 counts of murder and 53 counts of attempted murder, failing to notify law enforcement about the coming attack and lying to federal agents.

Salman, 30, met Mateen online and they married on Sept. 29, 2011, the Associated Press reported. The couple has a 3-year-old son.

Salman, who has Palestinian roots, grew up in the small suburb of Rodeo, Calif., about 25 miles northeast of San Francisco, the AP said.

Salman feared that Mateen, 29, was planning an attack and sought to dissuade him from going forward, a federal law enforcement official said Tuesday.

In interviews with federal investigators, Salman also allegedly acknowledged driving Mateen to the Pulse nightclub at least once before her husband launched the assault, according to the official who was not authorized to speak publicly.

The attack, the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history, left 49 dead and 53 others wounded. Mateen was shot dead by police after a standoff.

Salman allegedly told investigators that she drove Mateen to Pulse, a popular gay club in Orlando, about a week before Sunday's shooting, suggesting that the gunman had identified the target for some time before moving forward.

Omar Mateen and wife texted during Orlando rampage

New details have emerged about interactions between Omar Mateen and his wife on the night he killed 49 people and wounded 53 others at an Orlando nightclub.

An official familiar with the timeline told CBS News that Mateen was active on social media before and during the rampage.

Then after the gunfire began, Mateen paused. Sources told CBS News he searched for "Pulse Orlando" and "shooting," perhaps to see if the massacre was trending online.Records show that prior to the shooting, Mateen posted on Facebook "Alliance to [ISIS leader] Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi," CBS News correspondent Jeff Pegues reported.

He also made calls to 911 and to a television station about the ongoing shooting.

A law enforcement source told CBS News senior investigative producer Pat Milton that during the shooting, Mateen was also communicating with his wife via text message. The source said the couple exchanged, "I love you."

Investigators are focusing on what role Mateen's wife, Noor Salman, might have played in the attack. She has been cooperating, but officials believe she had some knowledge of an attack and will likely face some charges.

Law enforcement sources said Salman purchased ammunition with her husband, and they believe she drove with him as he cased the Pulse nightclub prior to the shooting.


Milton reported at this point in the investigation, it appears there is insufficient evidence to bring the more serious charge of conspiracy, according to a law enforcement source.

Investigators are also looking at other family members to determine what, if anything, that they may known about the attack and any financial support Mateen received from his family, including his father.

School records show that Mateen was a troubled child and a disciplinary problem going back to the third grade.

Several weeks before he massacred 49 at an Orlando gay nightclub, Muslim terrorist Omar Seddique Mateen transferred over his interest in his Florida home to his older sister and Afghan brother-in-law, property records show — an indication the family possibly had some knowledge of his martyrdom plans.

Authorities say the fatally shot Mateen clearly was prepared to die in a gun battle with police during the June 12 attack, the deadliest act of terrorism on U.S. soil since 9/11.

On April 5, Mateen “quit-claimed” the deed on his Port St. Lucie, Fla., house, signing it over to his sister, Sabrina Abasin, and his brother-in-law Mustafa Abasin according to county property records. The records list his wife Noor Salman as a witness in the curious real estate transaction.

Mateen’s wife, who is expected to be charged as an accessory in her husband’s attack, reportedly has told authorities Mateen began casing targets as early as April. He was regularly training with firearms well before April.

Earlier this week, the mysterious brother-in-law — Mustafa Abasin, aka Mustafa Aurakzai — escorted the widowed Salman, who wore a hoodie to shield her face from cameras, to the Port St. Lucie home to collect belongings. Florida state records indicate he was born in Afghanistan.

The 43-year-old Abasin has been questioned by federal investigators. In fact, the entire family is under investigation. FBI agents have expanded the investigation overseas to include family connections in Afghanistan.

Abasin is listed on state articles of incorporation papers as a founding director of a pro-Taliban nonprofit group set up by Mateen’s father, Seddique Mir Mateen. Abasin’s wife, Sabrina Seddique Abasin, also sits on its board.

An Afghan immigrant, the senior Mateen founded the The Durand Jirga Inc. in 2010 to support the Taliban and the tribal region it controls along the Afghan-Pakistani border.

In a recent video posted on the Web, Mateen expresses gratitude toward the Afghan Taliban, who stone homosexuals to death and launch terrorist attacks on U.S. soldiers, calling them “our warrior brothers.” He has criticized U.S. actions in Afghanistan, and complained about American and other Western “foreigners” in his home country.

Abasin, also active in Afghan politics, has echoed that criticism.

There was only 1 shooter, he was shooting 2 guns at once, the are NOT AR-15's they are Sig Saur's and they are not repeat firing guns, same as a AR-15 you have to pull the trigger for each shell. The claim of # of shots fired has NOT been released and won't be until the FBI finishes their report. Reports of multiple shooters is because there was an off duty OPD (Orlando Police Dept) officer shooting at him not shooting at patrons. Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) said Sunday on CBS’s “Face the Nation” that the Orlando shooting was not a “gun control issue,” but more of a “national security issue.

A good deal of attention has rightly been directed to Noor Salman, the wife of Orlando shooter Omar Mateen.

We know she’s scoped out locations with Mateen on multiple occasions, and attempted to defend herself by assuring us she’d tried to talk him out of the attacks. Perhaps she didn’t realize she’d just confessed to withholding information from authorities that would’ve saved 49 lives.

She may face charges – and she seems pretty certain of that, because she’s completely disappeared, and since been added to the no-fly list. As for her whereabouts, as Gabrien reports:

Attorney General Loretta Lynch admitted today that the FBI is unaware of the whereabouts of Omar Mateen’s wife, Noor Salman.


Salman has indicated she suspected Mateen was about to commit a terrorist attack, and even accompanied him to buy the weaponry he used to carry out the massacre. She insists, however, that as he left she tried to hold onto his arm so he wouldn’t leave.

If the FBI believes she was aware of the impending attack, she could be prosecuted.

Except for 9-11, all of these attacks have taken place under the watch of democrats. Even so, Bush was only six months into his first term and evidence has been presented that the Clinton Administration has been informed of precursers to the event.

The attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on December 7, 1941 occurred under the watch of a democrat, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, while he was figuring out ways to placate Japan, Germany, and Italy thus keeping the United States of America out of World War II. Mateen called police several times during the three hour ordeal to declare his allegiance to ISIS, yet only a fraction of his discussions with authorities that night have been released to the public — first an edited version, than an unedited one.

As you know, this is an active, on-going investigation being conducted by the FBI. Accordingly, the FBI is concerned that public disclosure of such records or information at this time will adversely affect our ability to effectively investigate the shooting and bring the matter to resolution; could endanger the safety of law enforcement officers, and other individuals who have participated in or are otherwise connected with the investigation; and risks unduly prejudicing any prosecutions that may result from the investigation.

The letter is signed by Paul Wysopal, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Tampa field office.

Those recordings and all records are public records under Florida law and are subject to freedom of information requests.

The “FBI doesn’t have the authority to hijack Florida’s constitution, which guarantees us a right of access to all non-exempt public records,” Barbara Petersen, President of the First Amendment Foundation, told the Orlando Sentinel.

On orders from the FBI, the city of Orlando has thus far refused to release any records, they say, “out of respect for the Pulse shooting victims and the families” and at the “direction of the FBI,” according to the Sentinel.

In the aftermath of the terrorist attack which left 49 people dead and 53 wounded, the White House shifted the narrative away from a terrorist attack to an attempt to impose gun control and claims of homophobia. Mateen was reported to have been a self-loathing gay man, but reports say the FBI has found zero evidence to substantiate that claim.

Orlando Shooter’s Mosque Demands Security,
Police Have Perfect Response

The Islamic Center of Fort Pierce produces devout jihadists who murder homosexuals, but they’re much more concerned with perceived Islamophobia.

Muslims worshipers at the mosque Omar Mateen attended before shooting 49 people to death in an Orlando nightclub claim they’re being terrorized by “Islamophobia.” In an attempt to crack down on what they believe are hate crimes, they told the sheriff’s office that they need police security at their mosque to feel safer. However, instead of caving to their demands, the police department gave a response they never expected to hear.

It never fails — every time Muslims butcher innocent civilians, the Muslim community expertly utilizes the victim card in order to never be responsible for their fellow jihadists, much less condemning the terrorists’ actions. Summoning crocodile tears and claiming they fear for their lives due to alleged “Islamophobia,” Muslims have once again made Islamic terror all about how bigoted non-Muslims are. Fortunately, their Islamic privilege wasn’t fooling the local police.

Mosque-goers at the same mosque in which Omar Mateen soaked up the violent commands against gays and unbelievers believe they are experiencing something much worse than the mass slaughter of infidels by devout Muslims like their own congregant. Claiming that they are suffering from perceived Islamophobia, the Islamic Center of Fort Pierce cited several alleged instances in which they were so afraid that they feared for their lives, according to Think Progress.


“Incidents started to happen — people started to drive by and shout racial slurs,” Wilfredo Ruiz said. “And last Friday, when worshippers were exiting their services during the rain, cars were driving by splashing them. These people do feel very insecure, and legitimately afraid for their safety.”

Believing this to be deserving of the taxpayer-funded police protection, the mosque approached the county sheriff’s office for a security detail to protect worshipers from offensive remarks and rogue puddles. You can imagine their surprise when the entitled Muslims didn’t get their way.


“At this time we have received no indication of safety concerns related to retaliation,” the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office stated. “At the time of the request, we were unable to provide sufficient personnel to grant the request due to other contractual obligations.”

The sheriff’s office added that security detail requests depend on staffing levels, which the department simply cannot provide since they are still too busy with the aftermath of the Orlando shooting carried out by their fellow congregant. In other words, the police would love to help, but you keep producing terrorists, which is a much more important detail requiring their full attention than your concern over hatred for producing said terrorists.
