GM stops sales of most popular car, expands recall
March 28, 2014 12:02 PM CDT
(CNN) - General Motors is halting sales of its best-selling car in the U.S., but the company is not explaining why.
Dealers have been ordered to stop selling most Chevrolet Cruzes already on lots.
A GM spokesman said models with the 1.4-liter turbo engine are affected, but no recall has been issued on cars already sold.
The automaker was already dealing with the recall of small cars due to an ignition switch flaw that was blamed for 12 deaths over the course of a decade.
The company originally recalled 1.6 million vehicles in February, but expanded it to 824,000 more cars on the same day sales for the Cruze were stalled.
