50th Anniversary to Air Simultaneously Worldwide, New Doctor Announcement on Sunday

https://i.chzbgr.com/maxW500/7709743616/h12387433/

To avoid leaks and spoilers, sweeties, the BBC plans to air the 50th anniversary special simultaneously across the globe. That means viewers on the West Coast of the US will be watching at 11:00 am, while fans in Sydney have to get up at 6:00 am to catch the special.

In other Who news, rumors of a "big mystery announcement" at midnight are spreading around the internet like wildfire. Some speculate that the new Doctor will be named, while others suggest it may just be an announcement announcing a date for the announcement (yo dawg). It's most likey to be an announcement for a live special on Sunday night where the new Doctor will be revealed. Either way, the identity of the next Doctor is pretty likely to be revealed this month. We'll keep you posted.

Peter Capaldi named 12th Doctor Who

Aug. 4, 2013, 2:27 PM EST - By Josh Dickey - TheWrap

http://entimg.s-msn.com/i/150/News/Aug13/PeterCapaldi_150.jpg

TV's "Doctor Who" lead will next be played by "World War Z" star Peter Capaldi, who was the odds-on favorite to take the BBC's storied sci-fi character into its 12th generation.

The BBC on Sunday announced its replacement for Matt Smith as the titular lead during a live show that began at 7 p.m. London time and was broadcast live in the U.S.

Smith announced he was giving up the role after four years last June, starting a wave of speculation among fans of the British sci-fi staple as to whose body Time Lord would inhabit next.

London oddsmakers were quick to take bets on who would next hold the Sonic Screwdriver, a secret reportedly only revealed to 10 people before its announcement. Capaldi was such a strong front-runner that bookmakers supended betting on the "The Thick of It" star when he became a 5/6 favorite.

Many speculated that the 12th Doctor would be the first to be a woman or a minority; Idris Elba had been named as a contender (though his film career is far along enough now) along with Ben Daniels, Rory Kinnear and Daniel Rigby.

The series that's been running in one form or another (with some hiccups along the way) since 1963 is a major part of British culture and is the very definition of "cult hit" in the U.S. and around the world.

Stunning original animation by Richard Swarbrick... although it does have a slight resemblence to a certain 80's A-Ha video.

PLEASE NOTE... I did not create this animation, I merely added the music and made a few tweaks. Full credit goes to Richard Swarbrick for his beautiful animation.

Doctor Who: Gallifreyan Quote
by Malallory

Yay, I'm learning another written language! I've learnt how to read and write in Daedric runes, now I'm learning Circular Gallifreyan! Whovians understand. I didn't invent this language, but I made a brief mention of the letters. There's more about this online somewhere, because I missed major stuffs out.

One of my favorite quotes from Doctor Who, translated into Gallifreyan:

"I am and always will be the optimist;
the hoper of far-flung hopes
and the dreamer of improbable dreams."

(The Eleventh Doctor)

This is a bit of English to Gallifreyan transliteration that I did for ~aithilin I love all the crossovers that are developing between the Sherlockian and Whovian fandoms. This is the classic Sherlockian quote -

http://th03.deviantart.net/fs71/PRE/i/2012/080/f/7/gallifreyan_sherlock_holmes_by_phantoms_siren-d4thtc7.png

"When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth!"

In Gallifreyan text using the ~BlackHatGuy method and the 2012 version of the translator program to check it. Thank you everyone who proofread it for me!

One of the first Circular Gallifreyan works I did was this quote by Albert Einstein, but I never really liked the way it looked ... so, like any other obsessive-compulsive artist, I decided to re-work it.

I still think Albert was a Time-Lord.

Circular Gallifreyan is a standardized version of the written Gallifreyan language as seen in Doctor Who. It was standardized by a fan, so it is not officially sanctioned, but it looks terribly cool. You can read a guide to Gallifreyan online or just read The Honey Badger's guide below.

JABBERWOCKY

by: Lewis Carroll

(from 'Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There', 1872
- translated by Shawn Thorsen into the Circular Gallifreyan alphabet
developed by Loren Sherman)

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand;
Long time the manxome foe he sought -
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.

"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!"
He chortled in his joy.

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

This work took about a week & a half in my free time, and I'm rather happy with the way it turned out. I imagine the Doctor munching on a jammy dodger and sipping his tea from a cup with this emblazoned on the side ... =)
As always, many thanks to ~BlackHatGuy for his hard work in devising (and REvising) this system of Circular Gallifreyan writing ... use this as you'd like - just let me know so I can check it out! ;)
