Whole Foods warns about contaminated cheese that could be fatal, high health risk

BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Whole Foods has issued a recall of cheese that is potential contaminated. It's considered a high health risk, especially to children, the elderly, and pregnant women. So far no illness has been reported.

The recall includes Trois Comtois Morbier cheese. In Louisiana the recall specifically includes the product Morbier Raw Milk.

The product is possibly contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, which is an organism that can be fatal in young children and those with compromised immune systems. For healthy adults symptoms can include high fever, severe headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. It can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

The recalled Trois Comtois Morbier comes in wheels approximately 11 lbs. each, which are then cut and wrapped in varying weights and are labeled with a Whole Foods Market scale label. This recall includes all “best by” dates sold in Whole Foods Market stores in Louisiana. The product is labeled as Morbier Raw Milk and has the PLU code 293358.
