Updated: Jan 22, 2013 1:31 PM CST
HOUSTON (AP) - A Houston-area community college went into lockdown Tuesday afternoon amid reports of a shooter on campus.
Lone Star College System issued an alert on its website Tuesday telling students and faculty on its Houston-area campus in north Harris County to take immediate shelter or avoid the campus. College spokesman Jed Young said it had received reports of a shooter.
Aerial footage from local television stations showed police cars and ambulances parked on the campus, emergency personnel attending to people on stretchers and at least person being put into an ambulance. Other people could be seen running from a building led by officers.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office had no immediate details.
The Lone Star College System has an enrollment of 90,000 students and six college campuses, according to its website. Its North Harris campus is about 20 miles north of downtown Houston.

HOUSTON, TX (CNN) — Students at a community college in Houston are taking shelter after reports of a gunman on campus.
Multiple people have been shot at the North Harris Campus of Lone Star College, CNN affiliate KPRC reported, citing law enforcement.
There were more than 10,000 students at the campus, a school spokesman said.
Police and emergency responders swarmed an entrance to the campus, aerial video from KPRC showed.
Medical personnel were seen treating at least two people and moving them to ambulances. Students were jogging away from some buildings, with their hands up in the air, presumably in response to police instruction.
One student, speaking to CNN affiliate KTRK, reported hearing five gunshots outside a breezeway between a cafe and a library.
Another witness told KTRK he saw blood on the ground and someone shot in the leg.
"Beside him, there was one guy in handcuffs," he said.
"I just heard somebody screaming and then after that I heard the shots," another student told KPRC.
It was not immediately clear whether any arrests had been made or a gunman remained on the loose.
A Harris County Sheriff's deputy told KTRK one suspect was in custody.
Lone Star College spokesman Jed Young could only confirm that there were reports of a shooter on campus.
The Lone Star College system is the largest institution of higher education in the Houston area, and the fastest-growing community college system in Texas, according to its website.

Shooting on Texas college campus, school official says
By Dylan Stableford, Yahoo! News | The Lookout – 1 hr 21 mins ago.
At least two students were shot at Lone Star College in Texas on Tuesday, a school official said.
According to Jed Young, a spokesman for the school, the shooting "involving two individuals" took place shortly before 12:30 p.m. local time. Two students were shot in the crossfire, the spokesman said, and at least one of the suspected shooters was shot and taken into custody. The extent of their injuries were not known. A second shooter fled the campus, the spokesman said. The Harris County Sheriff's Office said the situation remains "ongoing" but confirmed that a "person of interest" was detained and is in custody.
According to CNN, a fourth victim suffered a heart attack during the incident.
It's unclear if the suspected shooters were students at the school.
The danger on campus, according to the spokesman, had been "mitigated," police told him. Four nearby colleges were placed on precautionary lockdown.
An alert posted on the school's website shortly before 1 p.m. warned students to take shelter.
"LSC-North Harris is locked down," the alert read. "Students, faculty and staff are advised to take immediate shelter where you are. Do not enter the campus until notified further."
Aerial footage showed SWAT team members evacuating students several buildings on the campus in North Harris County near Houston as ATF, FBI and local police searched a wooded area.
In interviews with local media outlets, students described a chaotic scene. A female student told KTRK-TV heard five shots fired in an area between the library and the cafeteria. Other students say they heard gunshots when they were in cafeteria. "I was just sitting in my room academic building, room 163 when I heard gun shots," Twitter user @Amandaplease223 wrote. "Rapid shots. In the hallway."
The Lone Star College System has a total enrollment of more than 90,000 students across six campuses, according to its website.
The shooting comes a little more than five weeks after 26 people--including 20 children--were killed after a gunman opened fire at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., sparking a national debate on gun control.
