My granddaughter came to visit this week and the first thing she told me after we left her home was that she had pinworms. Oh they are nasty little things. I have treated her but this is about the 3rd or 4th time she has had them in her short little 9 years. I never remember having them as a child. I do remember friends having them. I read up on them and cleanliness has nothing to do with them. Oh yes hand washing does but not how clean the house is kept. Children exchange them by the eggs. Anyone else had experience with these little monsters?

I used to babysit a little girl who gave them to me, and the family a good 5 times.
I was real careful, and washed everything, but the eggs can be passed in the air.
I suppose I got them changing her diaper.
They are awful, I agree.
No more babysitting for me!

I was always told they came from biting my fingernails, don't know if that was true or not.

Nah can't be that I have always bit my nails, terribly, and I've never had them

No, thankfully not. I hope you can figure out where she is getting them. They sound terrible. :( Poor kid.

The doctor can give you a pill (yes, just 1 pill) that you take the night before with supper and the next day you will pass these things. My boys got them in school and of course the whole house had them. They are a pest, but they really don't hurt you.

If there are animals pooping around, you can get them that way too....a little scratch in the foot. Never had them but we got tested every spring....ugh hated that test!

that is wrong, you cannot get pinworms from animals. Dogs get tapeworms, not pinworms.
