PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A woman who had a cosmetic injection in her buttocks at a hotel near the Philadelphia airport died early Tuesday, prompting a police investigation.

Detectives said the woman and three companions traveled from London and were staying at the Hampton Inn in southwest Philadelphia. Two of them had traveled to the city in November to have their buttocks enlarged and, on Monday, one received another injection while the other had a hip augmentation.

Detective Joseph Murray said the 20-year-old woman who had the buttocks injection later complained of chest pains and trouble breathing. Paramedics were called, and she was taken to Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital where she died. Her name was not officially released.

The results of an autopsy by the Delaware County medical examiner's office haven't been released.

Police were seeking two people involved in the cosmetic procedures. They said they believe the procedures were arranged over the Internet.

"We're not quite sure right now if that person performing that procedure is licensed or unlicensed," said Lt. John Walker of the Philadelphia police southwest detectives division. "We're still working that information right now." (well duh, how hard could this be to figure out??)

Walker said investigators were also awaiting test results to determine the substance used.

Cops Search for Woman After Deadly Butt-Enhancement Procedure

Philadelphia police have questioned one woman and are searching for another in connection with a butt-enhancement operation that apparently killed a 20-year-old woman.

Claudia Seye Aderotimi traveled to Philadelphia from London to receive the treatment, which involved a silicone injection to the buttocks, Sky News reported. (http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/World-News/British-Resident-Claudia-Adusei-Dies-After-Having-Cosmetic-Buttock-Surgery-In-Philadelphia/Article/201102215926597?lpos=World_News_News_Your_Way_Regi on_4&lid=NewsYourWay_ARTICLE_15926597_British_Resident_ Claudia_Adusei_Dies_After_Having_Cosmetic_Buttock_ Surgery_In_Philadelphia_)

After the procedure, she complained of shortness of breath and was taken to hospital, where she later died.

Aderotimi was originally identifed as Claudia Adesui. She lived in London but was not a British citizen, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer. (http://www.philly.com/philly/news/breaking/20110209_UK_Embassy__Tourist_who_died_not_an_Briti sh_citizen.html)

Police served a search warrant Tuesday night at the home of the woman they believe they set up the appointment, Fox News reported (http://www.foxnews.com/health/2011/02/08/woman-dies-butt-injection-hotel/). They questioned the woman but did not place her under arrest.

They are still hunting for the woman they believe carried out the procedure.

Aderotimi traveled to the United States with three friends. They made the connection with the people offering the plastic surgery service via the Internet, investigators said.

The person who administered the injections booked a hotel room where the procedure took place.

The injection of liquid silicone to "fill wrinkles or augment tissues" is illegal in the United States, according to the Food and Drug Administration (http://www.fda.gov/ICECI/CriminalInvestigations/ucm240188.htm). The substance is used for breast enhancement procedures, but in the form of silicone implants.

Liquid silicone can prove deadly because the substance can get easily be contaminated and infections can develop in a nonsterile environment, according to Dr. Phil Haeck, president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

"This is a tragedy that should never have happened," Haeck said, according to Sky News.
"It is shocking that people don't put their own safety first, they don't ask enough questions, they don't ask for credentials, because they are looking for a bargain."

Authorities in Philadelphia say they don't know whether the woman they're looking for is a licensed medical professional.

One of Aderotimi's friends underwent a similar procedure but is currently in good health, according to Jillian Russell, a spokewoman for Philadelphia police.

"She's fine," Russell said.

Clue #1 : do not find your medical procedures on a Bargain Basis
Clue #2 : do not locate international health care "operatives" via the internet
Clue #3 : do not undergo medical procedures in an unsterile hotel room instead of a hospital, clinic, or doctor's office

Unbeleivable what lengths some people will go to for appearances.
