Not sure if that is even the right word.People on my email list are getting spam e-mails that I didn't send.I am completely ignorant about this type of thing.Anyone have any idea how this happened and what I should do to fix it?How embarrassing to have people asking me if I am serious about my supposed e-mail when I didn't even send it.

Your email didn't get hacked... you have some sort of virus or trojan or malware. I'm not really sure what a good program is to fix that any more but someone will come around and post it I'm sure.

Actually...my AOL e-mail did get hacked. It went on for several months before someone even mentioned to me. I even froze the e-mail for a while to try and stop it. But the spam e-mails started again after I unfroze the e-mail address. People were getting e-mails from me about erectile dysfunction medication. I notified all my friends not to open e-mails from me from that account and am now using another address. It's annoying because I've had my AOL account for almost 20 years.

They don't get these e-mails from me from any of my other accounts.

First thing to do is log in and change your password to a very secure password. Something long with caps in it and numbers or symbols. Then be careful what you do with the email, be careful who you give it to online. Only use it for trusted sites.

For clean up programs and stuff I use AVG and Malwarebytes. They're both good.

I think it happened to me to., I get getting bounced back emails, that looked like they were sent from my email to unregistered email addresses. I now change my email password once a week.

This is weird because I've been getting strange email's from my email address. I don't know how it happened, but it's the same email all the time, selling stuff.

Yes, I had my g-mail account hijacked and every contact I had on that account received spam. I had to contact Google because I could not get in with my password. They sent me a password to use and told me to change to a different password.

It's happened to me before also, it attacked everyone on my email address book and sent them crap, from some kind of pharmacy for viagra or something. I re set my password for my internet service, I have AOL also, and no ones complaining about getting anymore emails. I've had my AOL address for ten years, I like it, and don't want to change it either.

I had that happen ... changed to a "more secure" password, no longer leave my password activated, and change it every two weeks. No problems since. Nothing like getting an email from your PASTOR asking WHY you sent sexually explict material to him :embarressed:

Thanks for all the advice.I guess I'm going to have to change my password,I have had the same one for so long(probably the reason this happened) I don't want to change it.So glad mine wasn't a sexual one,it was a free cell phone scam.

this has happened to me twice on yahoo. And we use good viral protection, as well as anti spyware. The only thing that you can do is go in and change your password.
