Wish her luck LOL
She turned 16 back in October, I know, bad me, hadn't taken her in yet for her license. I didn't think she was ready yet, and needed more practice driving. So tomorrow we are driving in to go get it, we have to drive about 40 miles to the next big town because so many smaller towns around have been cut funding for the program.
She is still scared about parking, she does have a somewhat of a hard time with it. I think if she was in a small car she would do really well, it's just our extended cab pick-up makes her nervous LOL. Were gonna go to the town where "everyone" (her friends in school) go to get it cause they all say it's easy, you know how kids are......
SOOOOOO, that's what were doing tomorrow!!
Don't know when she will have an actual car though to drive, to add her to ins. is soooo expensive!!

Are you sure your insurance hasn't added her already. I had a friend that just got her DD's restricted license and her insurance went up even though she never reported it to the insurance carrier. It didn't jump as much as when she got her regular license but it did go up since she was a "licensed" driver in the same household.

Good luck to her, I finally got mine back in May (09) and I was scared. I failed the parallel parking bit but that was the only one.
Tell her to watch for trains when going over a RR track.

she is paranoid of trains. So I'm sure she'll look both ways about 10 times before proceeding if she has to go over tracks LOL. The place that I am going to hasn't made any of her friends do the parallel. Which, I have been teaching her, that is another she will need more pratice with me. But, to tell you the truth, there's no where here that requires parallel.. only if you go into the "city" downtown area. I dunno... she does have to have more practice at, were working on it LOL.

well, my dh(separated), has crunched and burned all the vehicles we had, he still drives the crap around. His father provided their extra spare vehicle for me to drive so I would have something dependable with the kiddo's...... and he pays for the ins., he just never took it off his policy with his other vehicles. Now my job will be to start up my own, in my name, and then add her as a driver. It is cheaper to start it off in my name (down payment/start up payment) and then add her, rather than start it up in my name and hers. I called ins. companys and price quoted some vehicles, and it is around $100 extra for her per month.

Good luck to her! My DS is turning 16 in March but doesn't have his temps yet. We plan on getting them so he can time it to do his practicing in the spring then get them before school starts in the fall. I really want him to be able to drive himself to school next year. The going through the cones is the worst part of the test here. I'm crossing my fingers for your DD that she passes. :)

don't feel bad, my dd is 18 and doesn't have her license yet. She doesn't want it tho. My ds is 16 and wants his license bad, but he is really not mature enough to have that responsibility so once he can show us that he is he'll get his learner's permit.
edited to add: btw, good luck to your dd! Hope she doesn't get all nervous :)

I just called our Drivers LIicense office eariler this week about insurance on a child that just has a learner's permit. (My daughter will be going this month to get her permit). They said they do not need to be added to insurance policy until they get their regular driver's license.
But I wonder if its up to each insurance company whether they have to be insured or not with a learner's permit.
Good luck to your daughter!

We have State Farm and my agent says here they don't need to be added to the insurance until they are licensed themselves. Thank goodness! My son is nearly $100 a month and I'm in no hurry to add him on.

Good luck to your dd. Now your real fun begins. You don't breathe from the time they take the car until they bring it back home.

Our insurance told us that if they drive your car more than 10 times a year they needed to be added. You know when they get their permit they are going to be driving at least 10 times. I would call your insurance and ask.

I dread my ds getting his (soon)
not to mention the increase in insurance.
one thing to note is adding the son or daughter to the oldest, lowest value vehicle

My 17 year old still doesn't have his license. The world is just not ready for him to be behind the wheel of a moving vehicle. He just has not been able to show us the maturity or sense of responsiblity needed yet. He backed my car into a tree just moving it to mow the grass. His older brother won't even take his side on this one. lol
