Are electric bill is getting really high lately (we have electric heat). So I am trying to see if there is a cheap cell phone plan so I can just get rid of my phone bill. I was thinking about a phone where you put the minutes on but I heard they don't have really good reception. I need something that will work in bad weather and things like that. Any suggestions would be great, Thanks :)

I pay $39.99 a month for ATT (450 mins, I think).....and all my friends and family have the same thing too. That way I don't have to pay for extra minutes when talking to them.
Check around with who you talk to the most and see who they have and what their plans are.
Oh, I also bought one of those Magic Jacks, and use that when I need to make long distance calls, from my computer. I think I paid $35-40 for a year for that.

Not really sure what you consider cheap. I have had virgin mobile for years and never any problems. I pay 50 a month for unlimited. My son pays 20 for 200 mins.
Us cellular if u have it there, gives u free incoming and last tine I heard, their cheapest plan was around 40. HTH.

I bought a tracfone and pay 9.99 a month for 50 units. You can buy a tracfone that has a double units card and then you'd get double units for the life of the phone. We use a credit card to pay for the units so we're on an automatic monthly thingy so its put on the same day every month. They have different plans for higher units too.
The only time I couldnt get reception was inside the exam room in the vets office. Otherwise its fine.

Yep, one of the best ones out there, great reception pretty much everywhere, I hardly ever have a dropped call.

My 2 contract is up this month and I was looking into the Pay as you go (At&t) because I don't use my cell that much. I have At&t now and I am going to switch to the Pay as you go, I wouldn't have to buy a phone then and just use the one I have. :)

Before you decide on any of them you should see which one has the best reception in your area. I think most of the major carriers now have some type of pay as you go phone. For instance Sprint/Nextel has Boost. So if you know that Sprint/Nextel has good service in your area go with that one. I personally always stick with a major carrier so that I have coverage when I travel.

I have metro pcs. It is a motorola phone and my plan has unlimited everything... web, text, all calls. I pay 47 a month. I did have the net10 before this and would buy the cards for the 10 cents a minute, that got to be real expensive. Neither of these phones or plans have very good reception and I get a lot of dropped calls. I am looking at the boost mobile plan right now for the 50 a month unlimited deal. I know they have good service and you can two way with that plan also.
Do a search on no contract cell phone plans and compare what will be right for you, and decide how much you want to spend each month. If you use your phone a lot... don't pay per minute, it will add up quick!
Good luck and I hope you research well and choose the right one.

my son has a cricket phone, he does not have a landline, and he hates it, he is going to change as soon as his contract is up. He has very limited coverage. We just live a little over 2 hours from him, and when he comes here he cannot use his phone.
