According to an oldwives' tale only the wicked can grow it.

It is very unlucky to give parsley.

Parsley plants must not be given.

Parsley should not be transplanted; it means a death in the family
or
bad luck.

If a stranger plants parsley in a garden, great trouble will befall
the owner.

Where parsley grows in the garden, the missus is the master.

Where the mistress is the master, the parsley grows the faster.

Parsley flourishes best either when sown by the housewife rather
than
by her husband, or in gardens of homes where she is master.

If a young woman sows parsley seed she will have a child.

Parsley is believed to prevent a pregnancy, and is sometimes eaten
as
a salad by young married women who do not desire to have a family.

If you want to bring on your period put a sprig of parsley inside
your woo hoo for 12 hours...your period should start 24 hours later. (deleted the other word for woo hoo ~ gotta keep it friendly lol)

In the 1600's and 1700's in England, children were told that little
girls came from the parsley bed.

I have heard a couple of these.

I know you aren't supposed give the plant as a gift and the 'only the wicked can grow it' (I haven't tried yet ;) )

Cool info.. thanks!

I have not heard ANY of those superstitions. It is funny tho how there are a lot of them about a variety of subjects.

For example SALT
For every grain of salt that spills accidentally a single tear shall be shed unless you scatter a pinch over your left sholder
* Tossing a pinch of spilt salt is the antidode of ill luck raised
* If you have a curse or hex on you by a gypsy then once they leave your home throw a pinch of salt in their direction-nullify curse
* If you have a frequent visitor whom you dont want then simply throw a pinch of salt at them when they are in your house-no return
* Fishermen never use the word as it is taboo while at sea however a tradition is to sprinkle fishingnets with salt to ensure safe return
* If you want a lover to return then burn salt on seven consecutive mornings
* If you are a bride then sprinkle a pinch of salt onto your dress for a happy marriage
* Never lend salt if you are outside the house, at a picnic etc., this will bring you very bad luck
* Newborn babies were once bathed in salt and water to ward off witchcraft

Thanks for sharing those cool superstitions

why would you want to get your period???

Maybe it is to control when it comes. If you want to make sure it is not late, you could "bring it on". Like if you would start on a Wednesday, maybe one would do that on a Monday so that they would be finished with the cycle on a Wednesday?

That is my guess.
