I have an Acer Aspire 4330 that I recieved for Christmas last year. It is a LOVELY computer, even though it burned me(I sent it back and they fixed it). I NEED to watch movies......on the weekends at work, it's just me and the security guard and he is at a different building. I have to work 12 hour shifts and am not supposed to sleep....well, there are only so many magazines/books I can read, so I want to watch movies. I have been using Sophie's portable DVD player out of the Jeep, but the laptop has such a nice size screen compared to her player.
There is only one problem. When I try to watch DVD's on Windows Media Player, I can watch them easily enough, but I cant HEAR them. I can play music all day long and hear it, but not the DVD's.
HELP!
You need to install the codec for it.

You can google codec for acer computer and find things. I just don't know which one to tell you download and don't want to tell you the wrong thing.
We had to do that for one of my laptops but I couldn't remember what it was until Katt posted it.

Can you call the company and see if they can walk you through some steps first?

did a search and found some things:
http://www.fixya.com/support/t1631693-no_sound_when_playing_dvd
Update the audio codecs from here:
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/codec.htm
install the codecs then try to play your DVD, if you still have no sound reboot the PC and try again, if still no luck please post back
Thanks for using Fixya

Sorry, I havent been here today. I left the house at 6:20 this morning and drove 4 1/2 hrs to Knoxville, spent 3 hours with my baby brother, then drove 6 hrs back......The difference is because I stopped at the VF Outlet in Crossville, TN on the way home. I havent been home very long.
I finally downloaded VLC. It works and works well. My brother told me that everyone where he works(He edits tv shows) uses VLC and it works well. So far, I can see AND hear my movies, so life is pretty good.
Thanks for helping. I am just worthless, lol. :D
