No, it's not "stupid", it had to be done. Everyone always says the same old..."we'll be good, honest" and then the same stuff starts. I'm sure Hippie and the rest have a life outside of this board, they're not babysitters. Y'all did this to yourselves.

It's not just the name callers and insult throwers. It's also those of us who post to simply incite those we know will jump at the bait. I say us because whether you want to admit it or not, we all have done this at least once for whatever reason. Some of us are passionate about our causes and some are just trouble makers, either way, we are all a bit guilty of causing the new restrictions.

Its not "one or two" its more like 10 or 15 of US and I say "Us" meaning ME as well.
Eventually the area will probably get opened back up for discussion. maybe not.
If a story is posted, we can always spin-off to the off topic chat for discussion. I know that me personally, I will try harder to keep it as discussion only. Its hard to not "debate" something, but its possible so I think if we all just try our best to play nice, it shouldnt be a problem.
I will try harder to not take the bait when its put out there.

As has been said countless times over, this is not a debate board, it's a bargain and savings board that happens to have some other topics. There are literally thousands of debate forums out there to discuss news items.
It's also not just one or two people, it's a whole bunch of us. Whether you outright call a person a name or if you're passive-aggressive about it and beat around the bush, it's the same thing. And apparently, it's gone too far.

Why does it even matter what people say about you? Not talking anyone specific, just in general. I don't give a rats a** what anyone thinks about me or if they like me or not. This is a message board and even though most of us have made good friends, there is always a few in the crowd.

I think people just get too uptight about other's opoinions. If we all didn't care, then it wouldn't matter much.

Tara, it seems like alot of the threads in N/I caused p!ssing matches, for lack of a better term. Be it about Obama, healthcare, or anything else somehow it always retorted to either name calling or complete chaos.

I totally understand Hippie and the other mods choice in closing the forum to replies. Hopefully it's just a temporary time out and we can be back to posting replies again. I for one want to reply to the thread about the baby being denied healthcare....that's insane and my son would have been denied as he's always been in the 99th percentile while chloe's just made the 10th LOL!

You just said it...within reason. Everyone has a different view as to what within reason would mean.

Stuff got out of hand, people being called racist, which still confuzzles me how that conclusion was come to, etc. It's best we just take the punishment for what it is and learn from it.

BBS isn't a democracy, it's a privately owned board. As such, the owners decide what can and cannot be posted. I'm a member of several boards myself and the discussion sections have been closed on occasion due to overheating.
As you say, we are all adults and should accept the decision of the board owner maturely.

It's not really hurting us to not be able to reply in N/I, maybe an annoyance, but it's nothing so major that someone should get mad and leave the board due to it. There's tons of other things to do here, OTC, the entertainment forum, laugh at the 49284372 lockerz posts, etc.

BBS used to be a lot more busy :agree For me, it's not about being 'mad', it's about being boring. I'm not a big game player and I'm not into a 'view only' site.......

I enjoyed the exchange of views in the news topics.....but whatever....it's a privately owned site, they can do what they want and we're not paid to be here neither. :shrug Which ever way the wind blows......

You can create a chat room somewhere but it won't be linked on BBS. I mean you guys can post the link here but we won't be responsible for what goes on there. We've tried that several times. And we won't let anything from chat be brought to the board, which happened often before with the mIRC chat and the Gabby one also.

Or, why not leave N/I and put out a disclaimer that you are on your own. If you can't take the heat stay out of the kitchen kind of thing. You can always put a new rule that says that if anyone reports a thread or pm's complaining that someone is picking on them then ban them from N/I. That way it is an even playing field and no one yell favoritism...lol...and the mods don't have to worry about the headache of moderating the forum.

I learned a long time ago on this board that I am NOT going to change someones views. Thats why I gave up arguing, there is no point in beating a dead horse. Everyone whos been here (Especailly on N&I) knows the way eveyones political views are, for the most part (KWIM)., so why sit there day after day and repeat the same garbage... FROM BOTH SIDES. No one here is going to come in being (FOR EXAMPLE) Pro-Choice & suddenly change to Pro-Life, because of a thread on a message board, no matter how many times its discussed. It isn't what you feel, think, agree or disagree on that is the problem. The problem is people debate the topic which then turns into personal attacks on each other. Then the topic is completely left by the wayside and forgotten about, and the attacks become the topic. So, if people could state their own views/opinions on the TOPIC, rather than other people's views there would be no problem. Focus people..next time you read someone's opinion on a topic, say hmmm, that's interesting to yourself, BUT, don't reply to that person's opinion, reply to the TOPIC. Make sense? In other words, don't reply to the person directly, as if you are typing to them, but rather reply to the original topic in the thread. Therefore, you will not be debating the topic. No fights, arguments, or closed threads that way!! Yay, we are all growned up!! Sorry I was just dreaming go back to the usual...LOL.

I think people are bored and looking for excitement and this is where they go to get it. It's really not hard to be mature about it. Trust me I was always the first one to start and look for crap on here(everyone knows that...lol), but it really isn't hard to change the way you respond to the threads on here. Just reply to the topic not the people, unless of course it's something nice to say and not an insult or attack on them. But like you said, I guess it's the human condition, and it will never change.
