Bin Laden Calls Obama 'Powerless'By MAAMOUN YOUSSEF, AP

(Sept. 14) - Al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden described President Barack Obama as "powerless" to stop the war in Afghanistan, and Americans' inability to grasp why the Sept. 11 attacks occurred has "cost you a lot without any result whatsoever."

The remarks by the terrorist leader were released two days after the eighth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks that he ordered. Bin Laden typically addresses the American people in a message timed around the Sept. 11 anniversary.

Bin Laden, who is believed to be hiding in the mountainous region along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, said current White House officials are merely following the strategy of former President George W. Bush and former Vice President Dick Cheney to "promote the previous policies of fear to market the interest of big companies."

"Rather than fighting to liberate Iraq — as Bush claimed — it (the White House) should have been liberated," he said.

When Barack Obama became president and retained many of the Bush administration's military leaders, such as Defense Secretary Robert Gates, "reasonable people knew that Obama is a powerless man who will not be able to end the war as he promised," bin Laden said.

"If you end the war, so to it," bin Laden said. "But if it is otherwise, all we will do is continue the war of attrition against you on all possible axes."

SITE Intelligence Group, a terrorist-monitoring firm, provided a translation of the tape, which was also translated by The Associated Press.

The al-Qaida leader sought to drive home key grievances often voiced in the Arab and Muslim world, where Washington's policies are seen as blatantly favoring Israel at the expense of the rights of Palestinians and other Arabs.

"We have demonstrated and stated many times, for more than two-and-a-half-decades, that the cause of our disagreement with you is your support to your Israeli allies who occupy our land of Palestine," bin Laden said.

"The delay in your knowing those causes has cost you a lot without any result whatsoever," he said in the tape released by al-Qaida's media wing, as-Sahab.

"This position of yours, combined with some other injustices, pushed us to undertake the events of (Sept. 11)," bin Laden said. He said that if Americans realized the extent of the "suffering from the injustice of the Jews ...you will realize that both our nations are victims of the policies of the White House," which he described as "a hostage" to interest groups and companies.

IntelCenter, another company that monitors terrorist propaganda, said the 11-minute video, which shows a still picture of bin Laden while audio of the address plays, is the 49th release as-Sahab, in 2009. As-Sahab is averaging one release every five days so far in 2009, IntelCenter said.

The terror leader, who is believed to be hiding in the remote mountainous region along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, argued against the claims that the wars spearheaded by the U.S. in Iraq and Afghanistan are necessary for U.S. security.

Along with the direct threats, bin Laden also follows an approach he has embraced repeatedly, reaching out to Americans in a gesture of conciliation — or at least readiness to entertain one if the U.S. moves to re-evaluate its support for Israel.

"Ask yourselves to determine your position: is your security, your blood, your children, your money, your jobs, your homes, your economy, and your reputation dearer to you than the security of the Israelis, their children and their economy?" he said.

"If you choose your security and cessation of war, and this is what the polls have shown, this requires you to work to punish those on your side who play with our security. We are ready to respond to this choice on aforementioned sound and just bases."

Well I guess this means Obama and OBL aren't BFFs anymore.

If you take OBL view, then he should give up the Sudan and every other land that the muslims have taken over.

War is hell. And in some cases when you lose, you lose your country. <ost are not like America where we kick your but, then spend our dollars to rebuild you and give you back your country. Germany and Japan are but 2 such examples.

I don't see this as a good thing. Because if he doesn't fear Obama he'll do more terrorist acts. At least with Bush I believe they were afraid of him and didn't do anything else here.

I will make the same comment here that I made in the comment section of one of our local news sites:

"Your day is coming, Asshat"

Yes I do. They didn't do anything else while he was president. If they hadn't been they would have tried attacking again and they didn't. As gungho as they are about their Jihad something stopped them from trying again. I believe they didn't think Bush would just sit there and not do something if they did and it deterred them from doing something else. I hope they don't try something while Obama is president.

They did keep trying while Bush was president but fortunately they were intercepted before they could do it again. Google attempted terrorist attacks since 9/11 and you'll see a bunch.

Well good for him and the people that were keeping us safe and catching them then. Makes me respect them more for keeping an eye on things.

But they attacked on Sept. 11th and Bush was President?????? How can you say they were afraid of him? If they were afraid of him they wouldn't have done it in the first place!

Just for the record, Bin Laden (however it is spelled) and his "kind" do NOT care who the President is. They are afraid of NO ONE! They are nuts!

I believe they were testing him and they saw that he wasn't going to sit idly by and let them do it again. And he didn't. He and the others at least deserve props for that. If he isn't afraid then why doesn't he come out of hiding.

Mary, I just had to reply and quote you because it so reminded me of what my Mother used to say. She always refered to the type that attacked us on 9/11 as the most dangerous in the world because they didn't care to die for their cause.

He isn't "afraid" of Bush or anyone for that matter. He isn't hiding out of fear. He is hiding because he doesn't want caught. If he is caught then he can't do it any longer. The kind of person he is, he doesn't have fear. He is willing to die, key word being willing. But he thinks if he dies then his "cause" might die as well.

No they don't deserve props because what "hasn't" happened. They didn't get in trouble when it did happen so why be rewarded when something doesn't happen. That doesn't make sense. It is their JOBS to keep it from happening.

And they have tried it again since then, many many times.

Yeah the key word there is tried but didn't succeed. I do think they deserve credit for it not happening again. The U.S. is a big place and they must have done something right and are continueing too because nothing major has happened since and its been nine years. You might not like Bush or the people that were trying to keep us safe but they did something right or their would have been a lot more disasters like 9/11.

Yes he was President then but do you realize how long that these people had this plan in motion. It didn't just happen over night. It was being planned long before he was in office. And yes I agree they aren't afraid of noone or nothing. They are beyond nuts.

They didn't fear Bush. They thought he was a joke. OBL, with the help of some Saudis attacked us from their base in Afghanistan and Bush "retaliated" by bombing Iraq. Saddam and OBL were enemies. Why would that make them afraid?

Also, they have not kept us safe. If they had the borders would have gotten a lot more funding for protection. Most Americans couldn't tell a Middle Eastern man from an Hispanic if they were dressed the same. Thousands of ME people have already come into America through the Mexican border. If a 20yo pregnant woman with an 8th grade education and $500 can get through with no problem just how difficult would it be for a ME terrorist with some very intelligent and wealthy backers? It's not a matter of if we get attacked again, but when. The plans for Palo Verde nuke plant in AZ are already in ME hands. The intelligence was smuggled out under Bush. Although if something does happen there I'm sure it will be Obama's fault. Bush didn't protect us. It's pure luck that we weren't successfully attacked on a mass scale on our own soil after 9/11.
